and continuing for early thanksgiving travel. monday tuesday i'll show you where some of those higher totals are. painting coming up in about 15 minutes. kira. all right, cynthia, thanks. we'll see you soon. well, those drenching rains and flooded roads across the bay area have claimed at least one life. we learned that a person died after attempting to drive through flood waters in guerneville and in santa rosa. police are investigating whether the rains contributed to another drowning. sonoma county was hit hard with those three straight days of heavy rain, and now people there are bracing for the next round of rain. as cynthia said, coming later today. today, in the bay's alyssa goard begins our coverage. well, we've got a break in the rain. sonoma county is still having to contend with flooded driveways soaked in grounds and flooded roads like this one. after three days of heavy rain in the north bay, water is coursing through an overflowing russian river. it's concerning and it's amazing how much rain we got in so little time. some people even using

kayaks to navigate flood waters in guerneville. nearby, close to highway 116 and maze canyon road, a car was spotted in a flooded roadway saturday mornin. the person called in saying they could see that the vehicle was bobbing in the water and that there was a person inside the vehicle. first responders recovered. the man who was in that car, but he was pronounced dead at the scene in santa rosa, firefighters pulled another man's body from piner creek, though police say it's not clear if his death was storm related. sonoma county residents are used to flooding, but several tell us this storm caught them by surprise, bruce trowbridge says at the ranch where he works, the ground is much more saturated than usual for this time of year. nothing's getting absorbe. yeah, which is kind of strange, too, because it was just dry. not more than two weeks ago. it was the ground was dry out there. we were planting some redwood trees and whatnot. so, you know, yeah, i'm concerned about it. this couple stepped outside after being cooped up, avoiding floods the past few

days. we went for our daily exercise and it was a lot of flooding everywhere. so we just did what we could. but yeah, we have a lot of pictures of all the flooding around with more rain and likely more flooding on the way. sonoma county officials are urging people to use caution and to not drive through standing water. alyssa goard today in the bay and we have this dramatic new video, this morning from forestville. this is a vineyard almost completely underwater. this is about ten miles north of sebastopol, about 15 minutes southeast of guerneville. forestville we're talking about and yesterday's break in the rain. we've been talking about gave people across the bay area a moment to deal with the aftermath of the storm. this happened in berkeley. a large tree fell on gilman street blocking the road. crews spent hours clearing the mess. neighbors tell us they're just grateful the damage was kept to a minimum. it's great that no one was underneath and it didn't hit any cars. it didn't hit any

fences or any houses in marin county. this large oak tree fell over onto another big oak, which then fell onto power lines, causing sparks and outages in san anselmo. one neighbor told us he and his wife saw it all happen early yesterday morning. we saw sparks dripping out of the trees and so we're watching it from our deck and all of a sudden, you know, we heard the transformers blow and it was, you know, you're not used to hearing that at night. absolutely. it was like a couple of shotguns going off at least he did go on to tell us this isn't unusual for san anselmo, which has many old growth oak trees. some of them simply do not withstand the winter storms. our nbc bay area app is a great resource to have during this stormy weather. as cynthia said, it is making its way back. just scan the qr code to download it

7:09 am
and i saw people standing at the bridge parked and came over to see what they were seeing. i love it, i love what i'm seeing, i love the fact the salmon are here. i love the fact that people are excited about it. the salmon weren't hard to spot. some of them were more than 45in long. we're looking at the fish swimming up the stream here and they're jumping up over this like kind of like waterfall sort of thing. and they're really big and they're like this big and they have like red bottoms. it's really cool. volunteers with the south bay clean creeks coalition say in some areas of the creek where they usually only see 3 to 6 salmon, they spotted 30. in the last 11 years that we've been doing this, i've never seen this many fish. so we're super excited because this could be that time where we're starting to see the fish take on and increase their numbers significantly. what he's not excited about is that despite volunteers posting no fishing signs, people are still trying to catch the salmon and what we're trying to do is just educate the public that you cannot be fishing now. it's a no

fishing time. so we put up signs throughout the los gatos creek area and on the main stem of the guadalupe. and still we're having people that are coming in and poaching the fish. he says one person even made a makeshift spear, while others used shopping carts to try to catch the salmon. but most people are just taking photos as they watch the salmon desperately try to jump several feet up this mini waterfall. you can hear the crowd cheer when one makes it. oh, that was nice. a lesson in determination and perseverance from a fish. the south bay clean creeks coalition is working on a project to help make it easier for these salmon to swim upstream in this area in the future. in campbell, marianne favro nbc, bay area news. ten past the hour. we have much more ahead on today in the bay. coming up. we take you live to washgton, d.c. forin

incoming trump administration. longtime supporters, aides and members of congress. so far have been named to posts by the president elect. please join me in welcoming kristen welker, moderator of meet the press. hi, kristen, great to see you. this morning. nbc news. this is sort of tangentially related. nbc news is reporting that donald trump plans to sign a flurry of executive actions within hours of retaking the white house. what can you tell us about his day one priorities, kyra. great to be with you. one aide saying it's going to be like nothing you've ever seen before. that's a direct quote. there will be a range of different executive orders, including ones that relate to reproductive rights. for example, there's one that will roll back reimbursements for those who are in the military who travel to get abortions. some will relate to other modes of health care, and
7:14 am
then a lot of them are going to be focused on the border, illegal immigration. that's obviously really the centerpiece of his campaign. and it comes amid president elect trump saying that on day one, he wants to start working on his plan to deport the millions of people who are here illegally. i, of course, had a chance to ask him about that several weeks ago. how much would it cost? what would it look like? he said there is no price tag. he said. you just have to do it. that was his language. so really notable. the question, of course, when you're talking about executive actions, kyra, will they actually stay in place or will they face legal challenges? will they get tied up in the courts as so often happens? so you can roll out a bunch of executive actions, and if they get blocked, they don't go very far. so we'll have to see how it all unfolds. but right now, that's the plan on day one for president elect trump. what about two months? almost to the day. we'll see. christian, thank you so much for that insight and happy thanksgiving. we hope you join christian for this

traveled to fresno county to learn why voters there supported donald trump in the 2024 presidential election. after voting democratic since 2008, newsom has taken several similar fact finding trips since his 2018 gubernatorial campaign. newsom is not eligible to run for governor for a third term in 2026, but he is eligible to run for president in 2028. nbc bay area political analyst larry gerston is here. this sounds so far away, i don't even want to think about how old my little boys are going to be in 2028, but here we go. is newsom's curiosity more than just that? oh, let me think about that. yes. of course. look, kira, we're in this period. get there yet? yeah, i know. the 2024 election is way back in the rearview mirror. way back. it's three weeks ago. it's gone, it's gone. we're in a period known as the silent primary. the silent primary is when people like gavin newsom run around the country listening. on the one
