showers farther to the south continue to dissipate. so we are going to see more of the drier weather conditions today. starting out with a few clouds but clearing out and temperatures headed for the low 60s for this afternoon it will be 62 in santa rosa, as well as hayward and in san jose with upper 50s in spots. now we are watching for the development or the possibility of some fog, which we've only so far seen around novato. once that clears out, it will be mostly sunny and then looking at tomorrow's high temperatures, about the same as today, it's going to be very cold during the overnight, and we are going to continue to track that as well as what's going on this weekend. and heading into our holiday. more on that coming up a little bit later, and we'll have a look as well at what's going on. mike, you're tracking a major crash. yeah. kari let's talk let's talk about what's going on over here. we have a smooth drive, and everything was calm until just a couple of minutes ago. got a report of a major crash here.

southbound 680. as folks are coming down into san ramon. a rumor has it there are some major injuries. i don't want to say too much until i can get clarification from chp, but we may have all lanes blocked over the last couple of minutes as well. this is a major problem for the 680 corridor. as you travel south from walnut creek and danville down toward san ramon and the dublin interchange, we'll continue to track that. i'll give you those updates for that one portion of the contra costa county. meanwhile, looking at the bay bridge, we'll talk about the forecast for the rest of your commute. this morning's commute should be a little calmer and shorter lived, maybe less focused, but there will still likely be a backup at the bay bridge as the morning continues. back to you. all right. thanks, mike. well, after more than a year of fighting, president joe biden announces the united states helped broker a cease fire deal between israel and hezbollah. now that deal went into effect earlier this morning. lebanese officials say that more than 3000 of its citizens have been killed in the war, and more than 1 million have been displaced by israeli airstrikes. today in the bay's brie jackson joining us live this morning from washington and bree. tens of thousands of

israelis have also fled due to the conflict. that's right. good morning. marcus. laura. so president biden outlined that deal from the white house yesterday, calling the agreement between israel and hezbollah good news. a cease fire between israel and hezbollah underway this morning after the u.s. helped broker a deal. this is designed to be a permanent cessation of hostilities. what is left of hezbollah and other terrorist organizations will not be allowed. will, i emphasize, will not be allowed to threaten the security of israel again. president biden, laying out parts of the agreement, which includes bringing an end to the fighting after nearly 14 months of back and forth strikes and removing israeli troops from lebanon within 60 days, all told, this has been the deadliest conflict between israel and hezbollah in decades. hezbollah supporters waving flags in celebration of the cease fire while those displaced

bay family needs your help. this is after a heartless crime, a theft of a desperately needed wheelchair. now that chair customized for a boy named miguel who has cerebral palsy. his mother says those thieves broke into their car yesterday morning outside their san jose home, stealing that chair to replace that wheelchair. it's going to cost the family close to $6,000. it's something that he needs. it's part of something that's just. that's even just to go out to eat. something that's so simple that you should be able to just easily do. but he's unable to do that now without this wheelchair. tell me, what does the chair mean to you? it. my legs and how i get around. look at that. now, the mother says that they will spend thanksgiving at a relative's

house, and there's just no way to get a replacement chair before thursday. the thieves also stole an electric scooter and her airpods. but she says the only thing she wants back is that wheelchair. 507 right now, on what may be the busiest day of the year in east bay, nonprofit is scrambling after a series of damaging thefts. three times this week, thieves have siphoned gas from the refrigerated vans used by s.o.s. meals on wheels. the san leandro group is delivering thanksgiving meals to hundreds of senior citizens in eight alameda county communities. the group says the vandals are crawling underneath the vans, then drilling holes into the gas tank to drain it dry. now we have more meals to get out and fewer vehicles in less time because we have to spend so much time solving for these issues and moving meals out of vehicles that we would use into other solutions. the damage is also really adding up. meals on wheels estimates so far. these and similar thefts this year have already cost them

about $16,000. let's take a live look out at dublin this morning. things look smooth and clear out there. meteorologist kari hall is monitoring what we can expect from the weather today. kari, how's it looking? yeah, we've been talking about the best times to travel and get out on the roads, and i think now's a good time. looking at the conditions out there and we don't have any more rain lingering. but it's cold as our temperatures have dipped in some spots into the 30s. that's what we're seeing in the north bay. but elsewhere it is in the 40s and low 50s. chilly start, and it's going to be a very cool day. at least it will be sunny and that helps it feel a little bit better. but as we go through the afternoon in san francisco, we're staying in the 50s for this afternoon and upper 50s and low 60s elsewhere. one of the warmer spots will be the south county, with morgan hill, gilroy and in san martin, temperatures in the low 60s. tomorrow it's not much different. after a very cool morning. we're staying in the 50s and low 60s as well, and
5:10 am
then into friday. there is still that cool weather that will be settling in and slight warming for some of the inland valleys that we'll be watching heading into our weekend. and we're going to get you set for hitting the road or staying here at home. we'll have a look at those temperatures, but mike has a look at what to expect if you are hitting the roads. yeah, maybe you fill your belly, but you got to get fill your tank to get there. we're going to look at the top ten in the state again. we're back on that chart folks. with livermore looking good at foxy gasoline on old first street in livermore. your getaway through the north bay. perhaps fairfield has solano county's best of 365 at bond fair market on walters road. and the best in the south bay is cupertino. 369 at shell on stevens creek boulevard. you can check wherever you are or wherever you're going. gasbuddy.com will help you find some better prices on the roadways. we have mostly light traffic. unfortunately, we have this situation southbound 680. we've just learned that two lanes are open, two lanes are blocked. southbound right around crow canyon road. there's been a
5:11 am
deadly crash. a pedestrian has been hit. and that will take an investigation. so we'll have two lanes blocked for at least some, at least over half an hour. i'm going to say 90 minutes until they can clear all those lanes up southbound, south out of san ramon and toward the dublin interchange for 680. meanwhile, the rest of your commute, if you're looking at vasco road as a meter, we're looking at the minimum drive time getting from that county down to alameda county. back to you. thanks, mike. it is 510 right now. using technology to help students thrive. the technology piece makes it scary for some people, but, you know, assistive technology can be as simple as a grip on a pencil. just ahead on today in the bay, we'll show you the way. one south bay school district is moving the bay area kids forward by incorporating assistive tech in the classroom, and it's the day before the day before black friday. we'll take a look at some of the deals and how all that works. well, speaking of the day before the countdown is on for the macy's thanksgiving day parade. last

the low 60s. expect more temperatures like this, but we'll take a look ahead to our weekend coming up in a few minutes. yeah, look at that flag over on the right side there at the golden gate bridge. blowing around. definitely breezy. driving across as a breeze right now as well. the note no overnight road work here or any other non-emergency situations until december first. caltrans is called the holiday as well. they deserve it. your commute should be a little lighter. we'll track it coming up. well good morning and a very happy wednesday to you. markets are closed tomorrow and then there's a half day friday. so we're going to see any big moves. it would be today ceo of best buy. the electronics store says the things that you buy there are going to get more expensive. if donald trump's tariffs are put into place. now we knew that. but stores are starting to make sure we know shares in general motors fell pretty hard as car makers got nervous about those same tariffs. gm has a plant or several plants in mexico. quiet week. we're getting a lot of

that in mind, we have some fun tracking prices of random gifts each year. this year we have selected a portable speaker, an espresso machine, a little fireplace, and a barbie dreamhouse that we kept that one from last year. best buy has already put the jbl go four pocket speaker on sale ahead of black friday. it was on a new york times gift list. the de'longhi magnifica espresso machine is on an nbc news gift list. current price 4.99. again well under retail even ahead of black friday. soulstone bonfire 2.02 49 at dick's sporting goods and our barbie dreamhouse 138 at target. as you can see, everything already on sale. it's well there there's that's when we're seeing it. we'll check back during black friday and through the next month as well. okay, i'll take the espresso machine please. barbie dreamhouse here i come. maybe the dreamhouse has an espresso machine. see, knowing barbie, probably with a special frother. thanks, guys. one south bay

school district moving the bay area forward by engaging students through technology. sometimes when a student is struggling, it's not because they can't handle the material, it's that they can't hear it all. teachers in san jose's union school district use enhanced instructional audio in all of their classrooms. teachers make up in order for students to hear them more clearly. it also helps for students with attention deficit issues or who are english language learners. while some methods involve technology, other adaptations are as simple as putting a grip on a pencil for a student whose motor skills are still developing, the director of information and instructional technology says providing these changes makes for some serious light bulb moments with students. assistive technology can change, you know, someone who is not engaged and unable to participate in the classroom to make them feel like they're included, and make them feel like there is more
5:19 am
opportunity for them to succeed. the director for instructional technology says that providing adaptations for one student usually benefits other students in the classroom, so parents should not hesitate to advocate for their students beyond adaptive technology month. but trending this morning, we're less than 24 hours away from the streets of new york city, being filled with the thanksgiving spirit and this morning, things are starting to take shape in the city that never sleeps. beginning at noon east coast time, the balloons will be inflated at the american history museum on the upper west side of manhattan. this, of course, all ahead of them hitting the parade route tomorrow. 17 character balloons are taking part in the annual thanksgiving tradition this year, so be sure to tune in for all the excitement happening in new york city as the 98th annual macy's thanksgiving day parade gets underway. preview coverage kicks off at seven tomorrow morning. that's right after us here on today in the bay. you can catch that parade at 8.30. that is on my bucket

list to go in person. yeah. it's called once. yeah, yeah, yeah, i was in living in connecticut. we just woke up and was watching. was like, let's catch the train and go. so we did. yeah. and it was raining and kind of snowing a little bit. yeah. i don't want to go. that's what kind of what they're expecting tomorrow in new york. so it's going to be cold watching tv. yeah i think it's going to be much more comfortable to watch it from the couch. all right. we're going to also have some cold weather. and we've been watching the storm systems moving across the country for all of the people either coming into the bay area or heading out. and as of now, things are looking good. the wet weather is winding down, clearing out in time for the busy travel day, and we've seen a couple of lingering showers. but overall, things are looking much better. here's a look at our high temperatures for today. headed for 61 in milpitas and cupertino and in gilroy 64 degrees. it's also going to be in the 60s for much of the east
5:21 am
bay. but oakland today 62 degrees, while vallejo will be up to 59. you can see there's not a big range in our temperatures today. mostly upper 50s, low 60s for the afternoon, and we're all going to enjoy some sunshine. and now that we're seeing the cold front dipping in and a light wind with santa rosa's high temperature up to 62 degrees for today. and then for tonight into the next couple of days, we'll have a frost advisory for these areas shaded in this light blue frost advisory means that you may have to spend a little extra time getting the frost off the windshield. and also you want to make sure that people, plants and pipes are protected from these very cold temperatures that we'll see mainly in the north bay and east bay hills, as well as the san jose foothills. looking at where we'll start tomorrow morning, our thanksgiving will be down to 32 in clear lake and 39 in moraga, san jose, 35 degrees. and it's going to be just as cold on friday morning. if you're getting up early to catch some
5:22 am
of those sales. and then on saturday, also looking like a very cold start. so our thanksgiving planner for san jose starts out with some low 40s. and then going throughout the day, we'll bring hopefully touch the low 60s and then back down to the 50s. and then looking beyond in our the rest of the forecast, all dry all through much of next week. so no more rain chances here and temperatures stay cool and hold steady at least through next tuesday. mike, you are tracking that alert in cocoa county? yes. still a big issue here. most of the traffic flow is very light, so you'll see no slowing for highway four. a little break did start on highway 37, so you do have your commute in your typical spots, but i need to take you somewhere we don't typically see slowing. this is a major crash. in fact, reports of a pedestrian that ran out onto the roadway and was hit and killed southbound 680 at crow canyon road. i know there's at least the fast lane open. there may be two lanes open. heading south. you see a short section of slowing just through san

ramon. that's unusual for the area, so be advised if that is along your route, you may have to get a traffic break if they have crews that arrive. my guess is it's going to be during the 6:00 hour when they're going to clear those lanes though. other than that, there are no major slowdowns. the south bay and peninsula looking really good. back to you. thank you mike. 522 right now next here on today in the bay, nbc bay area responds literally tons of merchandise will go back to stores this holiday season. when that happens, we want to make sure you get your money back. i'm consumer investigator chris chmura. we'll show you how next. hey, faithful, you're invited to come watch the game with us for sunday night football in the city. this sunday, december 1st at thrive city in san francisco from 5 to 8:30 p.m. rsvp at nbcbayarea.com. slash football night food is at the center of so many holiday memories, with thousands of our neighbors struggle to put food on the

another busy day on tap for travelers this morning. we have live team coverage on the holiday travel scramble taking place across the country. this is today in the bay. a very good morning to you and thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia. and i'm marcus washington. let's get right to our top story. this morning. team coverage on today's busy travel day. our ginger conejero saab live over there at sfo this morning. our mike inouye tracking that morning commute for us. but first let's check in with meteorologist kari hall. she's tracking that holiday forecast. yeah. we started out with some drier conditions compared to yesterday, but we're not just looking at the bay area. we're looking at everywhere across the country where you may be traveling or have family coming in. as of now, there are no major airport delays at some of the main airports and the high temperatures where you may be headed or have family coming from is anywhere from the 20s in minneapolis down to new orleans,
5:32 am
where it's 77. houston, the high temperature today will be 83. and we're also looking at 83 in miami this afternoon. if you will be packing those bags, heads up that there is that cold front blasting much of the middle of the country. and so today, in spots like chicago or tomorrow, it's going to be in the 30s, lows in the teens. atlanta will see some mid 60s, but temperatures also will be dropping there heading into the weekend as that cold front pushes to the east and out ahead of that cold front, we're seeing the rain. the leading edge of that creating some snowy conditions in the rockies, as well as in parts of the midwest from saint louis as well moving over toward the mid-atlantic states. and for the most part, this is a pretty nice, quiet picture compared to what we've seen some past holidays. so hopefully that also leads to some good travel conditions and everything on time. as we take a look at our high temperatures around the bay area today, it will be in the low 60s and a lot
5:33 am
of sunshine for the afternoon. we're watching out for the potential of some patchy fog that hasn't yet developed, but we are looking good going into the next few days as we get cold mornings and nice and cool afternoons. high temperatures headed for the low 60s and santa rosa will be up to a high of 62 for your thanksgiving. mike, you've been busy. there's a lot going on. yeah, it's very light volume of traffic. we expected an easy morning. unfortunately, we have a tragic morning in two key spots. let's take you to these maps, folks. you notice the east bay, contra costa county lighter traffic than you typically see on a wednesday at 532. but i'll take you over to the first of the deadly crashes. we're hearing about this. that's just coming into our newsroom. it's in the city of piedmont, surface streets at king and hampton, we have hear about three people who have died as a result of a traffic crash there. we're following the details again, just coming into our newsroom. this is on city streets. king and hampton in the city of piedmont, very serious situation on the residential area. and then the other deadly
5:34 am
crash that i've been tracking is also in contra is over in the east bay in contra costa county, southbound 680 at crow canyon road. we may be down to just one lane open. an early morning crash there involving a pedestrian on the freeway, and the investigation continues, likely going to be there until about 630. both two very serious situations. those are the outliers. the rest of your commute looking lighter than normal because it is just before thanksgiving, and that tends to see lighter commutes in the morning. back over to you. thanks, mike. we'll check back with you as well. well, happening now that thanksgiving travel rush is also in full effect as bay area airports prepare to be flooded with travelers today in the bay's ginger conejero saab is live for us this morning at sfo and ginger being early today may help. some of those passengers beat the long waits and just get right to the flight. get right to it. just get me on that flight. good morning, marcus and laura. that's right. tsa has been saying the earlier, the better and passengers that we

spoke with here at sfo this morning are taking that advice to heart because they want to get ahead of the lines here at sfo. this is at terminal one b and c gates. the lines pretty steadily long all morning. but don't be fooled. it is quick moving. so at least you've got that going for you. i'm told it takes about 15 to 20 minutes to get through this line. and from what we've seen, that pretty much checks out to be true. delays and cancellations. not looking too bad this morning, san francisco international looking at 27 flight delays and two flight cancellations over in oakland sf bay oakland international airport. you've got three flight delays and zero cancellations. the same is true for san jose san jose's mineta airport with three delays and cancellations. let's take a look at san jose this morning. they're also seeing some busy lines. this is the bag check at southwest over at san jose. people getting in that long line to check in their bags. got to

maybe get ready. get ahead of that a little bit more. the travel rush officially began yesterday. triple a, counting the tuesday before thanksgiving as the official start to the holiday travel weekend. 80 million people traveling more than 50 miles this holiday, about 6 million people flying domestically. this morning we spoke to passengers who are not taking any chances. my poor brother in law had to get up at four in the morning to get us here. and what time is your flight this morning? it's 740. i'm excited. mr. mr. dwyer invited me up. so real excited for thanksgiving. it's actually not too. i mean, it's pretty crowded, but we're early enough to where it should be. okay. and it's stories like that that make covering holiday travel a bit of fun. that last that last couple that we spoke with say, you know, they're spending the thanksgiving weekend. he's spending the thanksgiving weekend over at his girlfriend's
5:37 am
family up in portland, oregon. so they were very excited about that. didn't matter that they had to wake up at four in the morning. i think he's trying to make a good impression. he definitely does not want to miss this flight pretty much some smiles here as people go through these lines. so far so good. we'll have more on possible ways to cut down on your wait time when you want to check in that bag. we'll talk about that up ahead at 630. we're live at sfo. ginger conejero saab nbc, bay area news. sounds good. all right. those people know what it's like to get up really early. i say the early flight, the early, the fun begins. that's true. that's good. thanks, ginger. thanks. well, the chp is hoping to provide an update today. this is on a deadly accident in san jose. it closed southbound 680 last night near berryessa. exit. that's when officers say that a car struck someone in the lanes. we don't know how the victim ended up there. officers say that the driver remained at that scene and was not impaired. an accused domestic fugitive terrorists from the bay area is now awaiting extradition from the uk

after 20 years on the run. agents in rural wales yesterday arrested 46 year old daniel san diego, listed on the fbi's ten most wanted list. the marin native is now in a london jail in 2003. the fbi says he planted two homemade pipe bombs outside chiron, a biotech company in emeryville, and another one about a month later targeting shackell, a nutritional company in pleasanton. one expert points out there are still some questions about how the arrest was made, either by a tip or in this case, could be biometrics. maybe they got his fingerprints somewhere or facial recognition. we'll find out once he's extradited. you know, if you're going to hide out away from the united states, you got to make sure to be in a country that doesn't honor extradition. and great britain, thankfully, does. fortunately, no one was injured in either bombing incident. the fbi says san diego was an animal rights activist who believed both companies were involved in animal testing. police in

concord have made an arrest. this is in a decades old case after 24 years. investigators have tracked down a man accused of raping a paralyzed woman who was confined to a wheelchair. michael lamont evans is now behind bars. police say in december of 2000, that man broke into the victim's apartment and sexually assaulted her. at the time, investigators collected evidence, including dna. it was entered into a database, but police never got a match until recently. he was arrested for alleged parole violation down in los angeles. and is that when you got the hit? i mean, is that when you were able to match or. no, we had we had the match a little bit, i would say about a month before he was actually arrested down in la. but once we actually get the hit, we actually have to confirm the hit. so we'll write a separate warrant to get his dna and confirm the match. now, police say that the suspect has an extensive criminal history and was homeless at the time of the assault. he did not know the victim, who has since died.

police are working with family members in hopes the arrest will give them some justice. a follow up in the south bay valley water directors have formally approved new rules banning encampments on agency owned or maintained land. the new water resources protection zones ordinance establishes new long term solutions supporters say will limit trash and hazardous materials from encampments that may pollute nearby waterways. it calls for advance notice ahead of any cleanup operations and connecting the unhoused to social services. law enforcement will only be brought in as a last result. we are following some breaking news this morning for you. this is now in piedmont. now these are pictures you're looking at. this is from the scene at king and hampton. you can see there, just in the distance that mangled truck. well, it's against the retaining wall. now, we're told that it is a tesla cybertruck. chp also now saying that three people died in that crash. we do have a camera heading there to the scene. of course we're going to bring you those updates throughout the

morning. once we get a camera there, as well as more information for you. now, mike has been tracking what's happening with this crash and other things across the bay area this morning. but that crash, i mean. wow. yeah, you saw the damage. the tree retaining wall and a vehicle, and that's just a bad combination. there. early morning hours on surface streets. again, hampton at king avenue. three people have died as a result of this crash in piedmont in the piedmont hills. meanwhile, we're looking at the freeways alongside of them, and that's more indicative of the morning commute. so on the surface street intersection, there's one deadly crash that we're looking at, but there's another one as well, also in contra costa county. i wanted to give you a nice chance to see all the light traffic volume, and no real slowing except for this one area of southbound 680, where early this morning there was a deadly crash here too. yes, another deadly crash. this one on southbound 680 at crow canyon road. reports of a pedestrian running across the freeway getting hit by a vehicle and now you possibly only have your fast lane open. i hear that possibly two of your left lanes
5:42 am
are open, but don't count on that as you're traveling through san ramon because of the light traffic volume, it's only about a five minute delay and no reroutes necessary right now. we'll continue to track that. my guess is that it's going to have another 45 minutes till the coroner can get there, and conduct the business. there is a crash reported right here westbound highway four at san marco. typically, we'd see some slowing there anyway because of that volume of traffic, but again indicating lighter traffic, there's not much of an issue. we'll check on that incident when i get more details, as well as a little bit of slowing for highway 37, the bay bridge, little blips show a little bit of slowing. we'll give you a look over here at the east shore freeway. the headlights do show a good volume of traffic, but you know, that's actually not bad for this time. down the east shore freeway and at the bay bridge toll plaza. very light right now as we head toward thanksgiving kari. it's wednesday, i know, but i think it's time for a lot of folks to look at vacation in the weekend. yeah, and if you are going to be hitting the road and maybe going to tahoe, heads up. right now, the temperature is 16 degrees. and not only do you have to pack some extra layers, but if you're

5:54 am
them, but they'll charge like one bottle here cost 100. liquor stores will charge 1000. wow. and so are you going to flip your bottle or are you going to drink it? no. flippers should know. okay. don't say that. yeah, yeah. so. but you're going to drink it. yes. are you going to drink it? it'll keep you warm right after you get cold from standing out here, it goes home and then you just take. you share it with your friends. all right? that's that's a real. is this your first time doing this? only i've only done it one time before. but okay. the people that are into it, they don't flip them. they don't. and how much money are you going to spend this morning, do you think? i don't know. doesn't matter. doesn't matter. all right. because you're going to be drunk anyways, right? i will not be drunk. all right. hey, happy thanksgiving again. so the ribbon cutting for this costco is at 730 with the mayor. 8:00 is the opening. i did talk to the manager of the costco. they said not only do they have this booze, but they have a couple of other items like some tory burch items, some things like that, but it's not necessarily door busters. so i hope you got my name. this is the line for booze here in pleasanton. yeah, you

going into our holiday and into the holiday weekend. highs in the low 60s and sunshine through the rest of the forecast. but mike, overall it seems like it's a lighter commute. it is overall bay area wide. we have a lighter volume of traffic. you can tell by the green sensors dominating over here. very serious situation though in contra costa county southbound 680. as you're coming down in toward crow canyon road, we're still down to one lane. i believe, as we're looking at a deadly crash and possibly into the 6:00 hour, probably about 630. we will have the coroner arrive on scene, but until then they cannot move or open any lanes. southbound does have a delay just through san ramon, though, because of the lighter volume of traffic. we're still okay coming through walnut creek, but in through concord. that crash, not a lot of detail, but there's five chp cruisers right around willow pass on westbound highway four. that's the reason for the slower drive there. back over to you. thanks, mike. happening now, the state launching a new effort to protect holiday shoppers. governor gavin newsom announcing
