tradition returns the way glide memorial is working to help move the bay area forward and feed those in need this holiday. this is today in the bay. and this is thanksgiving day. good morning to you on this thursday. i'm marcus washington and i'm kyra clapper. laura has the holiday off. let's start with a look at the microclimate forecast with cinthia pimentel in for kari. it is jacket weather and heater weather as we start today. the northern and eastern half of the bay under this frost advisory until 9 a.m. so you might need to scrape some frost off of the windshield as you get those errands finalized. we go up there into the north bay 31 in santa rosa. it is cold, as well as over on in n danville 34 in livermore. there's some more 40s, though, along san mateo at 47. i've got you. and we do 39 in san jose. for the people getting ready for that turkey

trot. biggest one, i think, in the world in the u.s, if i'm correct, as we go on into the lunchtime hour, we get that sunshine, that warmth, 50s and 60s will carry us through a nice and dry thanksgiving day and even into the weekend as people stick around. or maybe you have some plans of your own. i'll be here to talk all about that full forecast in a few minutes. back to you. all right. thanks, cynthia. well, new details this morning in that fiery crash involving a tesla cybertruck in piedmont. city leaders there are encouraging mourners to gather later today. this is ahead of the piedmont turkey trot. this way, they will remember those three people who died. we've been following this story all along, since yesterday. here on today in the bay. and that's when a tesla truck crashed into that retaining wall, bursting into flames. we're now learning that the three people e who died all graduated just last year from piedmont high school, and they were all home for the holidays. one friend of the victims in a separate car, managed to pull someone from the burning vehicle with serious injuries. a former teacher just heartbroken. this shouldn't

spartans. it's not clear if the university or the team itself called for this semifinal withdrawal. but with boise state out, the spartans now move directly into saturday's championship game. and there are some really good news in this follow up for you on thanksgiving morning. one south bay family is thankful for a local nonprofit group after their car was targeted by thieves on monday. the crooks stole a customized wheelchair used by a teenage boy with cerebral palsy. the replacement cost would have been several thousand dollars, but volunteers from the wheelchair foundation heard about the story and delivered the boy a new chair just in time for thanksgiving. police, meanwhile, have not made any arrests. an annual thanksgiving tradition in san francisco is upon us. clive memorial's thanksgiving meal and celebration will feed thousands of people today. today, in the bay's ginger conejero saab is live at glide. this morning. and

ginger, the tradition continues a legacy that the glide community holds so dear. especially this year. that's right. good morning kyra and marcus, and happy thanksgiving. this thanksgiving is especially meaningful for the community here at glide because it's the first one after the passing of reverend cecil williams, a charismatic and well loved leader here at glide. he was really a leader that led this community for decades. 70 years in the making. what glide is today. he left a legacy that so many are thankful for, including carl robillard of glide. i know, carl, we've been talking about cecil all morning. his pictures are up. people are really still living with his legacy. this is such a big moment for glide. it's our first year without cecil here with us. of course he's with us in spirit. we are thrilled to have doctor gina fromer, our new ceo and president, taking his legacy,
6:06 am
moving it forward. but where i think people are really thinking about is, you know, he arrived in 1963. he turned really a dying congregation into a world renowned center for social justice, led not just glide, but san francisco through the gay liberation movement, through the civil rights era, the crack epidemic. you know, the reason all of us are here today serving meals and surrounding people with love is that legacy of which we're moving forward. you're saying rooted in love. that is where the volunteers are getting their inspiration, love for the community. tell us about what's going on here, because there's a lot of turkey. if turkey was if love was measured in turkey, we would definitely be winning the game today 100%. i love that. and yes, love is always the first ingredient at glide unconditional love. but we have 1,400 pounds of turkey that you're seeing carved right now. we have 70 hams that are going to get started. we're anticipating serving about 2400 meals. folks are already lined up. that will include a hot
6:07 am
breakfast, but really what people are waiting for is an 11 a.m. when we come back and these chairs are packed. this is a center. this is san francisco's community dining room. this is our dining room table. and we have hundreds of people who work for months to make. today possible. that's that's so true. you can feel that. i know, i just want to give a shout out to max because he shares his wisdom with carving turkey, carving ham. he shared it with me last year and now he's teaching this new first shift of volunteers here. and there are plenty more that he's going to, that he's going to help you navigate through this very busy morning. and let me tell you, max, we're so grateful. it's a art and a science and you can see the precision going on. we want people to get the best cuts of meat. we also want to use the whole bird. so we love having him here. all right. that's great. so what else are we waiting for today? i know there's some special guests coming too. yeah, we are very excited to have mayor breed join us. we have state comptroller
6:08 am
fiona ma state treasurer. sorry, state comptroller malia cohen and state treasurer fiona ma. we'll have our new supervisor elect, bilal mahmoud, here today. and we have hundreds of volunteers. we have so many people that come to glide as part of their thanksgiving tradition. and that's really the heart of why this legacy that began with reverend williams continues on because of the volunteers also, of course, because of people like you and the community here at glide. i have one more question that i want to ask before we have to wrap up of all the big names that come through and carve turkey, who's the best carver? i got to say, chief scott, he really knows to how wield his knives. he knows how to make it work, and he does it very gracefully. he's very good. all right. we're going to have to check it out again. i know i've seen chief bill scott, san francisco police chief bill scott carve turkey before, but he wins the wins the trophy for you. don't tell the others. but he's pretty good. all right, guys, marcus kira don't tell anybody. but we're going to have to check out chief scott's carving skills. we won't tell anyone. ginger. thanks. no one's
6:09 am
going to know. and there are a lot of people that have come through. oh, yeah. absolutely. all right. looks like a lot of fun. thanks, ginger. all right. it is 608 for you this morning. let's take a live look for you. right now over at palisades tahoe. you know what? this is one of the many sierra resorts likely to benefit from all the recent snow. palisades already reporting close to three feet of snow at the base. a few resorts have yet to open, but if you're still thinking about a late run to tahoe, well, driving conditions should be improved from just a few days ago. want to turn now to cinthia pimentel? okay, so cynthia, how long this weekend? how is it shaping up? because a lot of folks probably going to head to tahoe this weekend. yeah, and i think we are looking at some smooth sailing for people going up there or maybe some people that want to come down here into the bay area. once we see the sunrise, that camera and this one will just be even more gorgeous than it already is. but we did bring down those temperatures from the last time i showed you our live look there

so much. okay, so if you want to know how to safely feed your family this thanksgiving, which i'm sure we all do, we found some answers for you. so we chatted with the staff over at the usda about how to thaw that turkey and just the safe temperatures you need to know about this holiday season. so if you have a frozen turkey, you can thaw it in cold water, but you need to change that water every 30 minutes. also, make sure you check the use by date on the turkey's packaging. and how about leftovers? well, experts say that they will be safe for up to four days with proper storage and on the fourth day you get to decide if you're going to eat it, throw it away, or save it for another day by freezing it. and if you freeze it, just know that food stays indefinitely safe if it's frozen, but the peak quality is within 4 to 6 months. okay, so if you're doing the math there, you can enjoy leftovers as late as july. i'm going to say don't do that one. but if you want to hey, go for it. all right. so if you have any questions while cooking today, just hit up the
