5:11 am
so in a literal sense the holiday season began a few wes ago but emotionally this is the real kickoff. everyone gets excited for what's going to happen over the next few weeks and we had a great weekend and we don't have the numbers yet and we'll have them early next week. but i have talked to several ceos and they're ready to meet the demand and they have products in place. and just where brian ended, when he said this was all about the consumer, consumers are in a good place. the unemployment rate is lower and wages are growing in excess of inflation and people save all year for this holiday. it's an emotional time of year and they want to go out and get the right gift so we're looking for a big weekend and a big protest of the holiday season. >> matt. how important is bottom line is black friday for these retailers? we -- you mentioned it but it seems like it's gone on all month and i know i have been getting emails at least it seems like since november 1st. so how important really is black friday? >> well, black friday is still one of the biggest days of the year. it's still the second or third biggest day of the year, there's super saturday which is the last saturday before the
5:12 am
christmas holiday. and then cyber monday of course which is the epitome of the digital transformation of the retail industry experience but i think what retailers are trying to do over the last few years is really give consumers choices and give them the opportunity to get the deal or the gift or the value item they need and want. the way in and they want to get it. so some of them as you heard in that last segment, this is a social event. this is a family experience and it's a tradition. people like to be out together on black friday and throughout the weekend. but others are just looking for the right deal so they have looked for those deals all throughout the fall and many of those have been out there already and people have bought them. really finally the convergence of the digital and the physical which now it's really here and i think what's you are seeing across this weekend. >> cyber monday is just ahead. thanks for your time this morning. >> thanks peter. >> thanks. canadian prime minister justin trudeau made the trip to
