luck to everybody out there. we'll make our way back west here and see that there is just dry weather ahead. those storms are making their way around the bay area as high pressure just keeps everything out of here. so no moisture for the next couple of days. aside from those early sprinkles today, san francisco and the peninsula should see some really nice weather in the 60s. sunny skies over the next couple of days, and our inland valleys upper 60s for today. maybe even switching those over to some 70s as we welcome december here. should be some nice ones. and even continuing into the end of the week, i'm looking at a dry weekend for now, as we look forward to that first weekend of the month. love that cynthia. thanks 45 past the hour. we have much more ahead on today in the bay coming up. nbc bay area political analyst larry gerston is here to discuss new tariffs that trump administration wants to impose and hoitw

and shipping thieves are targeting warehouses, semi trucks and trains. authorities say the hottest commodities are alcohol and electronics. the majority of the robberies are happening in california, illinois and texas. experts say the crooks are becoming more sophisticated networks hacking into email accounts, coordinating fake pick ups for large shipments where the freight terminals, the ports, are thinly staffed and very quiet. and that's when the criminals like to strike. it's low risk for a lot of prison time in their eyes. and high, very high reward. a truckload of liqu could be worth a half $1 million. security experts warn that the criminals are getting more sophisticated, and their crimes will force warehouses and companies to pay more for security. and the replacement of lost products. that cost likely will be passed on to customers.

president elect donald trump is not only threatening tariffs on canada, china and mexico, but also a handful of non-western countries if they abandon the u.s. dollar. brics is a coalition of countries like russia, india and brazil, among others. brics mainly uses the u.s. dollar for trade, but in recent years, members of the coalition have talked about creating a new currency for trade. president elect trump posted a statement on social media yesterday, saying he would impose a 100% tariff on brics countries if they move away from the u.s. dollar. brics countries like india and china are some of the largest trading partners for the u.s. trump also has promised to round up undocumented residents, as well as new 25% tariff on mexico until the flow of migrants and drugs over the southern border ends. nbc bay area political analyst larry gerston joins us. hope you had a

great thanksgiving. oh, yes. what? yeah. me too. what's the connection? you know, an unintended consequences, i assume. yeah, that's that's a good way of putting it. an unintended consequence. look, we go back to the election. election promises.s. right. d what did president trump promis? i'm going to bring down the cost. we've had a 20% increase in cost. i'm going to bring them down. a big portion of that is food. so he's now saying, well, how are we going to do that? well, we're going to bring it down through these tariffs. the same thing he's been talking about all along. so is it all tied together. the promised deportations and the tariffs and how you know how is that all. you kind of wonder how tariffs will bring down costs when they seem to raise costs. well let's start first though with the folks who produce food right here. remember he's going to eliminate take away as many as 12 million undocumented people in this in this country. so what happens here when he does that? well, farm workers are largely
7:51 am
undemocratic and undemocratic. undocumented okay. undocumented people, if you look at california, literally one out of two farm workers in this state, one out of two. 49%, to be exac, are undocumented farm workers. now, if these folks are going to go away, who's going to replace them? well, the president and his colleagues say no problem. if these folks go away, we'll go ahead and have unemployed people here do the jobs instead. well, you kind of wonder how many people here want to go ahead and do these jobs that are really very labor intensive, very hard on the body. and these folks, these undocumented, are doing the job right now. and you wonder who will do it instead. and, you know, trump is saying those countries will pay for the tariff, but experts are saying the u.s. will pay the tariffs. so how would that fit in with mexico and the food that they grow right. that we need, right. first, let's let's talk about tariffs just for a second. yeah.
7:52 am
tariffs are not paid by countries okay. they are assessed to the countries and the countries. then their businesses pass it on to the people who buy the products. that's how it works. so let's not be fooled about that. as far as mexico goes. remember mexico and canada for the future president said are going to be assessed 25% until things get in shape. what does that mean? wel, intend until undocumented stopped coming to the united states until fentanyl and other drugs stopped coming into the united states, 25% tariffs. well, guess what these countrie, particularly mexico, spend, send an awful lot of products. again, food products to this country. look, two thds, two thirds of the of the vegetables that we eat in this country come from mexico. almost half of fruits and nuts, even a fifth of the beef that we use comes from mexico. now let's put these things together for a second, okay? you're going to lose undocumenteds because of rounding them up. you're going to see higher costs for food
7:53 am
because of tariffs. the only answer to this is that cost in this country for those products, food, which is a big portion of our consumer budget, is going to go up. and this is the opposite of what the president said would happen. back to what you said at the very beginning, unintended consequences mean a lot in life. oh, that sounds so stressful. all right, larry, we know you'll continue to follow it for us. thank you. 52 past the hour. up next, a quick look at the top stories. we're following, including a rescue in the frigid waters of the san francisco bay. what the 18 people did to save thselves whileem
