5:00 am
right now at five the bayay are,
5:01 am
getting ready for another round of rain while the sierra bracing for snow. we're tracking the weekend storm making its way in tonight. i failed the team. you know rams are a good, good team overall. playoffs are going to be tough. but we still got some games to play. still got some grit. go niners. like the attitude wet and disappointing night for the niners at home at levi's stadium. but it's not just the loss that's hurting the team. the player now trying to call it quits. plus less gassy and better for the planet. well, california researchers are charging changing up cows diets as a possible solution to our climate in crisis. this is today in the bay area. what a way to start the friday. i think i just went back to third grade. want to start out with a good morning to you on this friday. i'm marcus washington and i'm kris sanchez. i'm in for laura garcia this morning. we want to get a
5:02 am
start with a look out our windows over the bay area this morning. it is wet outside in the north bay after the rain rolled through. but there's another storm headed our way, and the rain will be back in full force tomorrow. rain here usually means snow in the sierra, of course, and a winter storm warning is now issued, their snow causing major delays along i-80. chp posted this video showing the long lines of big rigs and cars stopping to put their chains on neaear truce right now. chains are required on both i-80 and highway 50. meteorologist kari hall, of course, been monitoring all that the time line of the next storm. how's it looking for us? well, we're still seeing the rain in the north bay. it's not yet letting up for them. and that's where we're going to see the highest rainfall totals. looking at storm ranger, that's our mobile doppler radar. and the red scan that you're seeing there, showing the green over parts of marin, sonoma and napa counties and getting ready to move into sonoma county or solano county here soon. looking at all of the light rain right
5:03 am
now as you get ready to head out, and then looking at the approach of thiss next system that will be blasting the bay area with some widespread rain, much of it still offshore, and that will bee getting ready to move in for tomorrow, gaining steam out there and also packing some gusty winds. our hour by hour forecast still shows rain in the north bay, but even for the afternoon, anywhere in the bay area could at least see some spotty showers. so we'll be tracking that for you and you can track the rain on the go. you have the same tool on your smartphone. download our nbc bay area app by scanning the qr code on your screen that gets you updates from our storm ranger mobile doppler radar, as well as me and the rest of the team of our meteorologist. mike, you're checking out a crash at the bay bridge? yeah, got word of it in lane six. so you start over here, you count over lanes five and six. i just saw an ambulance drive through this area. no major injuries reported and light traffic folks were able to avoi the activity that is at the toll plaza. just know that it's there. also, look at the
5:04 am
sheen on the roadway. still damp roadways in many parts of the bay. there's a slowing right by the activity past the toll plaza or at the toll plaza. we'll track that. hopefully things can get cleared in the next few minutes. on the approaches coming to the maze and through the maze. no major issues. still too early to show that slowing for highway 37 highway four at the speed limit as well. the rest of the bay. not bad. we're watching a disabled vehicle in san francisco. we'll check on 101 coming up. back to you. all right. thank you. mike. new details are emerging about the lead up to the arrest of the alleged killer of the unitedhealthcare ceo, brian thompson. the san francisco chronicle is reporting san francisco police recognized luigi mangione as the suspect and contacted the fbi four days before his arrest in pennsylvania. sources told the outlet that an officer and sfpd special victims unit recognized mangione because his mother had reported him missing to san francisco police last month. he had been working at a car listing website with an office in san francisco. fbi officials
5:05 am
declined to comment. mangione's next hearing is december 30th. well, the back and forth saga continues for oakland airport's push for a new name. the port of oakland is appealing on the order, which temporarily blocks the airport from using its new name. earlier this year, the airport announced it was changing its name to the san francisco bay oakland international airport, but san francisco filed a lawsuit saying that the new name was just too close to san francisco international and would cause some confusion. last month, a judge issued a temporary order blocking oakland from using that new name. now the port is claiming sfo did not present factual evidence to stop the renaming. oh, i don't have to tell you. it was a disappointing night for the 49ers at levi's stadium. the team fell flat, losing to the los angeles rams, meaning the season is essentially over. there are all kinds of dramas unfolding after the game. the playoffs are likely out of reach, and one player quit the team and walked
5:06 am
out. today in the bay's anthony flores has the highlights from the game. reporter. there was a lot on the line at levi's stadium, so a steady downpour wasn't going to keep 49ers fans away. they were bundled up and there were a lot of ponchos in the stands. with rain falling from the end of the first quarter until right before the half. the 49ers and rams combinedor just six points at the break. i think it affected both quarterbacks a little bit, but i mean that it wasn't just because of the weather. the niners had their chances in the second half. late in the third quarter, deebo samuel dropped a pass that might have led to a touchdown. then in the fourth with the 49ers down three and driving, brock purdy throws an interception into the end zone, ending the niners hopes of a comeback. i failed the team. you know rams are a good good team overall. but more than anything for the way that we play on offense and our standard. i could have been better for sure. the los drops the niners to six
5:07 am
and eight overall on the season, and in 11th place in the nfc playoff race. one player who might not be on the team when the niners return is linebacker de'vondre campbell. coach shanahan says he refused to go in the game in the third quarter after losing his starting job because of dre greenlaw return to the lineup. somebody who doesn't want to play football, that's pretty simple. i mean, i think our i think our team and myself, we know how we feel about that. despite the disappointing season, shanahan still has the support of the faithful. playoffs are going to be tough, but we still got some games to play. we've still got some grit. go, niners. next up, the niners. head to miami to take on the dolphins. i'm anthony flores for today in the bay. that was tough. yeah it was. all right well here we go a new day 506 for you this morning on the friday. take a look at that folks. out on the road. you can see they're still wet on the roads out there this morning. meteorologist kari hall monitoring what we can expect weather wise. so you say the rain for the bay area? not completely over up in the north
5:08 am
bay. we're still. yes, we are still seeing that rain in the north bay. and really, it's kind of sprinkling through the tri-valley and parts of the east bay. and even then, the cars in front of you are kicking up some of the water that was left on the road from the rain, the heavier downpours that we had yesterday. but it's mostly the north bay right now where we're seeing a lot of green on storm ranger and we're going to continue to see the rain moving through kind of in and out of the area. but here we are at 4:00 and we're seeing the activity picking up once again for other spots as well as the north bay. and then the heaviest rain comes in very early tomorrow morning at 2 to 3:00. we're seeing some pockets of some heavy rain, and then it really intensifies by 8 to 9:00 with all of the bright pink there. that's the potential of some thunderstorms that could be moving through. so we're going to get really busy here as we go through the next couple of days and even into saturday morning. but then we are going to see some of the showers moving out as we go into saturday
5:09 am
afternoon. so i'll be tracking all of that for you and an update in just a few minutes. but now let's turn to our climate in crisis. did you know that cow flatulence can actually warm our planet? well, they emit the same methane, which is a harmful gas that stays in our atmosphere and traps heat from the sun. so researchers from uc davis have studied how changing a cow's diet can reduce the amount of methane emitted. they found that seaweed pellets added to the feed of a herd of beef cattle in montana ended up cutting about 40% of methane emissions without affecting the cows health or weight. so we did this experiment in dairy cattle first and then in beef cattle, and then we saw that we were getting quite substantial reductions in emissions. and that's why we wanted to continue with this in this line of work. and so quite effective. but, you know, we've been working with other feed additives that would also be able to help us in reducing methane emissions as
5:10 am
well. 12 to 14% of global greenhouse gases come from cows breaking wind. so as we look for our solutions, this one sounds easy with promising results. you can see the findings of the study that was published in the national academy of science. we'll post a link to that article on our website, nbcbayarea.com. look for this story on the climate in crisis page. mike, where can we fill up for a little bit less? speaking of gas, the homophone, exactly the same name, a different topic. we're looking at livermore, where it keeps its place on the top ten list for the last two weeks, but it's loosening its grip this time. the price is up a dime to 329. still, at those marathons on homes and also on south livermore. next up we have marin county, your north bay bargain that will be in mill valley. it's 359 at the old fave hq fuels on shoreline highway. and finally in the south bay. the best is 369 again. this time we're picking out platinum gas on tully road. you can find an assortment at that same price. use gasbuddy.com to get your

location. meanwhile, on the roadways we are looking at most of the smooth driving traffic as damp roadways still out there, so be careful, especially in the north bay. we do have north 101 right around cesar chavez. reports of a disabled vehicle. no slowing shows up, but use that as a warning as you travel into san francisco, just north of the 280 split, and then over at the bay bridge, we do have activity. i saw an ambulance. there are injuries for this crash in lanes five and six. that's over on your left side as you approach. obviously the lanes off to the right are clear. stay out of that direction. back to you. thanks, mike. well, we are one week away from the start of the end of the travel rush. let's get a live look at sfo. with so many people headed to airports, odds are your luggage could get lost. but travelers now taking things into their own hands. airlines are taking notice. coming up at 625, we go one on one with united on the way. they're using new technology to track down your bag. i'll stick around for that. okay, well, trump travels to wall street and also got a spicy

cupertino and what to expect. today we're starting out with some spotty. light showers this morning and temperatures in the lower 50s, but it looks like. we're staying in the 50s all throughout the day with only some peeks of sunshine. this is our day to prepare for heavier rain and more gusty winds set to arrive. tomorrow i'll have a look at that timeline coming up in a few minutes. and a big surprise. big backup at the bay bridge right now. it's not even 515. we have a crash that's being addressed. the ambulance is on scene. i'll let you know what chp is updating us with information they have and what they're not saying as well. coming up. well good morning. very happy friday to you. markets moved lower thursday. the nasdaq back under 20,000 though just barely. this stock over here is broadcom doesn't look like it does. not that symbol. broadcom makes chips. it's got investors absolutely convinced it's the next to pop over artificial intelligence. so

5:20 am
largely over walnut creek and the rest of the east bay. music and nature at its core is just so special and will make them appreciative not only of our music, but of nature as well. we hope the album will inspire people to think more deeply about our natural world and understand the work of save mount diablo. so if you like that and you want more, blue eyed grass will be holding an album release party fundraiser to save mount diablo on december 21st. this is from 3 to 5 over at luigi's deli and market in martinez. now the album is already available now on major online music platforms, so go out and download it, i like it, i mean, you can't just ask people for money always, right? sometimes you give them something and then you get that transaction. it's mount diablo in my heart. all right. well, this is also trending for you this morning. of course, we know a lot of those kids. they really want to know that, you know, they're waiting to see if santa really got their list this year.

5:22 am
us are nice favorites. yeah. the north bay has been very nice. yeah. so we're seeing that once again. take a look at this live camera in dublin. so we're not seeing more much more than some light showers coming down. but it's still enough to make the roads wet. it's a sloppy commute for you as you're heading to work, but we've been talking about the bulk of the rain still coming down in the north bay. some very light spotty showers elsewhere so we can track it all with storm ranger. that's our mobile doppler radar. we have it parked on san bruno mountain, and that's the red scan that you're seeing there. you also can dial in to see what storm ranger is scanning on your phone. if you have the. nbc bay area app, you just tap on the little icon that looks like a radar truck. so we are seeing quite a bit of rain funneling into the bay area, definitely into northern california. and it does have that connection to the tropics, which would classify this as an atmospheric river that's going to be coming in. so we are going to see some heavier rain arriving as we go into late
5:23 am
this evening as well as tomorrow. but we already start to see at least some spotty showers popping up this evening. and then really heavy rain ramping up by 2 to 3:00 in the morning, most of it coming down throughout tomorrow morning, and the heaviest rain passing between 7 and 8:00 and really picking up. there may even be some thunderstorms along with some gusty winds tomorrow morning. but look what happens as we go throughout the day. most of us will get a break and by about 11:00 into noon, still may be some spotty rain over the north bay the rest of the afternoon it's clearing out, so if you do have some saturday afternoon plans, it is looking good for that as well as all clear for sunday. so during that short time of the rain coming down late tonight into early tomorrow, we're going to pick up about an inch of rainfall here. at least it may be an inch and a halfor parts of the east bay, and possibly closer to three inches of rainfall for the north
5:24 am
bay. and then at the same time, we're dealing with king tides causing that coastal flooding anthose low lying areas around the bay, as well as creeks and streams. there may be some localized flooding, not from the rain, but from the king tides. and then the sierra is going to get a decent amount of snowfall, about ten inches for south lake tahoe, tahoe city, 14in, and possibly up to 27 for kingvale as we're going to see this active storm pattern continuing into next week, we'll be watching it all for you as we will see round after round of rain into christmas. and mike, you're seeing a crash in a backup at the bay bridge. big backup at the bay bridge, especially unexpected on a friday. so look at this. these flashing lights happen just about 5:00. two vehicles got into a crash. there are injuries. you see the flashing lights? it's right near the metering lights. and that's what's causing the backup. flooding all traffic, filling all lanes at the bay bridge toll plaza. right now we're starting to see some movement, but they still have a couple lanes blocked. watch it out o

checked bags to keep tabs on them. well, by integrating that info into its baggage tracing system, united is hopeful its reps can reunite more passengers with late or lost luggage and more quickly. the goal is to actually not use this technology and never lose a bag. but when we do, and those rare instances that we do and there's an airtag in someone's bag, we can't see it right now currently. so this will give us the ability to integrate their airtag into our united app, and we can see the bag and recover it. united is the first u.s. carrier to do this, but not the only airline to fold airtag data into their baggage systems. when apple recently announced this new feature, it said it was partnering with more than a dozen airlines globally to start sharing airtag data. united says you need to have the latest ios on your iphone and the latest united app. and that's it from sfo. back to you in the studio. thanks, chris. our next top stories we're following today include that incoming storm

this is today in the bay. thanks for joining us this friday morning. i'm kris sanchez. i'm in for laura garcia, and i'm marcus washington. well, want to take you live outside across the bay area this morning. this is where it looks like a, you know, dry when it comes to rain coming down for you this morning. but is that necessarily going to be the case throughout the weekend and throughout the morning? meteorologist kari hall, of course, been tracking the impact to those weekend plans. i know a lot of folks are like, okay, can i get out and do some things, run some errands? there will be some windows to get outside and enjoy the weekend, but we are starting out with some wet weather and much of the north bay right now. as you're heading to work, we are seeing some light rain as we take a look at that san rafael camera, and the roads may have a little bit of a sheen and be slippery as you're driving to work. but as we take a look at storm ranger, most of that rain is in the north bay. a closer look shows it is pretty light for us right now. we are expecting it to get heavier as this next storm system arrives, and a lot of it is still
5:33 am
offshore, but it is picking up some energy and gaining steam as it moves in. it's going to produce some high winds and heavy rain. so the north bay is under a flood watch. this includes the entire north bay, with the exception of solano county. we're looking at about 2 to 3in of rainfall in the valleys. five plus inches of rainfall in the mountains. so you want to make sure that you know, if your home is in a flood zone, you have a plan and evacuate if needed. and don't drive where water covers the road. make sure you're protecting your possessions and sign up for the alerts on the nbc bay area app. so we are expecting the storm to dump a couple of inches of rain in the north bay. so today in the bay's bob redell joins us live. and bob, that's a lot of rain when you consider how saturated the grounds are. good morning to you, kari. that's why people in places like santa rosa are preparing for this weekend's storm, because, as you mentioned, the ground is saturated after the atmospheric river that hit them a couple of weeks ago, when that one came,
5:34 am
during a 72 hour period, there was 14.5 or 14in, and it was actually 14.5in of rain that was dumped then. so the ground is still saturated as a result, which means trees are more likely to become uprooted and fall down, possibly. this weekend we caught up with edgar solis with a tree service. he chopped up and hauled away a giant redwood tree from a property in napa yesterday because the owner there wanted it gone before the new rains arrived. solis suggests you check your trees for rot and think about thinning them to release the load. the trees like that have a lot of weight. i think this is the tree needs to be trimmed. obviously if you have a leaning trees. yeah, check it out. the base of the trees. it's not just the rain, it's the wind. we actually put a message out to our community this morning that although we're not part of the wind advisory, it's going to be gusty. it's going to be windy locally. so to reiterate what kari has been telling us this morning, strong system expected starting
5:35 am
tonight. really heavy in the north bay, continuing on into tomorrow again potentially bringing with it a couple of inches, maybe a little bit more of rain in places like santa rosa if the roads flood again, as kari was mentioning. a reminder from authorities don't drive through those areas. the water could be much deeper than it appears. reporting live bob redell today in the bay. thank you bob. be safe out there and you can track the rain on the go all weekend long. you can download our nbc bay area app if you haven't already, by scanning the qr code on your screen that gets you the latest updates from our storm ranger doppler radar and our team of meteorologists, including kari. the fate of nima momeni still hangs in the balance this morning. jurors are not deliberating today, but they are set to resume on monday. while many faces one count of murder, this is for the deadly stabbing last april of cash app co-founder bob lee. six days of deliberations wrapped yesterday. that jury is combing through six weeks of tesestimony a three days of closing arguments.

12 degrees. make sure you're packed and ready for that. you have your emergency kit in the car. it will be a little bit better heading back to the bay area on sunday. let's spend it around the bay area enjoying something like the tunnels of joy in brentwood. we have some nice weather for that this evening. it's going to be cloudy, very chilly and then we'll see rain coming in later tonight. if you're in san jose going to downtown. ice also expected to be cloudy. we're right at 60 degrees at 4:00 and then dropping down to the upper 50s and rain later tonight. and then for san francisco, they're santacon happening starting at noon, and there's going to be some showers. i don't know if there's anything worse than soggy santas, but we are going to see things clearing up as we go into late tomorrow evening and keep those layers on. mike, you're starting with some recovery for part of our commute. yes. chp had not issued a traffic alert. that meant they think they thought they could clear it pretty quickly. there were some injuries reported or

at least associated with this crash, but all lanes have reopened. this is just past the toll plaza approaching the incline and the metering lights for the bay bridge. back at the toll plaza, we had everything backed up. hov is now cleared and there is movement. it's still early enough on a lighter friday that we should see some good recovery coming off the berkeley curve, but it is jammed right now from the berkeley curve to the bay bridge toll plaza. let's check out the rest of the view. and we do see a little slowing as we expect right on schedule for highway 37 and no slowing on highway four because it's friday. a little bit later, start to that backup. let's check those bridges getting across the bay bridge still delayed because of that recovery at the toll plaza, richmond bridge to the north and the san mateo bridge to the south, you're at speed and no problems at those toll plazas, and no real problems outside of the little delay that's building for san jose. that's typical about this time. do note looking forward tonight. all through the weekend, they'll do the express lane work between san mateo and palo alto and highway 101, so do expect some slowing as you lose the express lane. there will be a distraction to 80 will be clear. back to you. thank you.

mike. the man who accused president biden and his son, hunter biden, of taking money from a ukrainian company, says he made it up also. we'll talk about that in just a bit. but take a look at this santa swarming this area of the bay area. stick around. we're going to tell you where it is and how you can take part in it all. oh my goodness. plus, i'm cinthia pimentel with emerald here. we're at the humane society of silicon valley. stick around. we've got cute dogs. and we've also had we also have details on the home for the holidays campaign, how you can bring your forever friend. maybe not for you, or maybe for that person on your

right now at 542. we're watching many aspects of this incoming storm, including the wind. it's going to be very windy along the coast, mainly with a high wind watch that will be in effect starting at 7 p.m. through 4 p.m. tomorrow. we could see gusts topping 50mph. watching out for the high winds along with the potential of flooding. more on that coming up in a few minutes. and we are recovering here at the bay bridge. but if this is part of your commute and you're expecting it to be clear this friday, it is not. the earlier crash still on the shoulder as you're passing by those metering lights and up the incline, but the lanes are now clear. this is the backup you see as you come off the berkeley

curve. the man who accused president biden and his son, hunter biden, of taking money from a ukrainian company, now says he made it all up. scott mcgrew is here right now. okay. so, scott, that claim took on a life of its own. oh, it really did. i mean, imagine a president or at the time, vice president of the united states, taking money from a foreign power. it became the center of many a republican led hearing. except, according to new court records, the main accuser, alexander smirnov, said he wasn't telling the truth. smirnov, who is in the center of that video from a preliminary hearing, pleaded guilty in federal court this week to creating a false federal record and obstructing justice. president elect donald trump walked back his promise to lower grocery prices in the first weeks of his presidency. during an appearance at the new york stock exchange on thursday, saying, quote, it's hard to bring things down very hard. trump was at the new york stock exchange to celebrate time
5:46 am
magazine's pick of person of the year, and to ring the opening bell. vice president elect jd vance there on the left. cnbc's jim cramer was there. sounded very pleased to interview the president elect. thank you sir. we were together and i was grateful to be a judge on the apprentice. we had a great time. that's right. you were a judge. he was. he was a tough judge. he was a tough judge. well, we had to eliminate some people who didn't cut the mustard. you made me a hatchet man, i respect that. now, as for trump's promised price cuts, remember, groceries were not the only promise. he also promised to cut electricity prices in half and do it within the first 18 months of his presidency. so what? by june of 2026, in half. he also promised to cut your car insurance rates in half, though he never explained exactly how he would do that. but your car insurancee half as expensive. cr insurance companies are regulated by the u.s. government and state government, but they are private businesses. trump
5:47 am
and his close associate, elon musk, have said they want to reduce regulation, not increase it. now there is one solution. some governments, like three provinces in canada, lower car insurance prices by setting up government funded car insurance. secretary of state antony blinken meeting with officials in turkey. one of our nato allies talking about the situation in syria. remember, syria and turkey share a border. there's a big group of kurds in syria. they're also our allies because they were very good at fighting isis. the problem for our friends, the turks and then our friends, the kurds north of the border is they're not friends with each other. you may recall, in 2019, then-president trump suddenly and unexpectedly gave the nod for turkey to create a safe zone on its border with syria, killing kurds and displacing civilians. and as you might imagine, mcus, the two still don't like each other. very true. all right, scott, thanks. all right, switching gears now for you right here. so

the weekend, it is time to jingle all the way. bay area style. because tomorrow, the 2024 san francisco santacon commences. the annual event is going to bring together santa enthusiasts. you can see right here these are umbrellas. so some folks you see in some of this video, they had umbrellas there. it was in full force. this was back here. right here okay. so this was back in 2022. luckily going to see a similar scene happening tomorrow as well. right. so participants are going to take part in events at various bars and venues across the city. all while of course donning those red suits, elf costumes and antlers. events kick off at noon and last until eight at night. tickets are available@eventbrite.com. they actually start at $24. there's also going to be a bar crawl over in oakland this weekend too, so love it. santa monica no, that's okay. you can still wear your santa hat. you can if you like. all right, well, we are moving to the bay area for it with some merry and bright this morning. maybe you haven't figured it out. what? to get that special someone or even
5:49 am
yourself. don't worry. we know we always have you covered. all right, humane society, silicon valley wants to help you bring some forever friends home for the holiday. nbc bay area's cinthia pimentel is here this morning to talk about more. cynthia, that does not fit in a stocking, but it's so cute. if you get an extra large stocking. yeah, this is emerald. she is ready to go. and so cute. look at her. how could you say no? this is the perfect gift to cuddle up this weekend with the rain. or make your family's, you know, holiday wish come true later on for the holidays. it's a perfect introduction to our home for the holidays campaign here with the humane society of silicon valley in milpitas. and joining me this morning is nancy. thank you for waking up and being here with us. thank you. tell us a little bit about this campaign. is it the first year that it's been going on? what can people, you know,
5:50 am
expect when they walk through the door? we do this every year, home for the holidays. we have a lot going on this holiday season, starting with our giving tree, which i know we're going to talk about in a minute. we also have an adoption promotion going on where we have a select group of dogs and cats, puppies and kittens who are available for a $50 adoption fee. and you can see them on our website on our shelter spotlight, we have a coming up also, which i think we're going to talk about in the next segment, our christmas delivery, where we will deliver santa's elves, will deliver a puppy or kitten to you on christmas morning. i'll have a special surprise your family. so we have a lot happening here, and we're just so grateful that you came out this morning to visit with us. oh, of course. i mean, this is the best job ever. emerald. thank you. and we also have some of her furry friends down here who are so excited and need a home. they came from the central valley, and they're looking to make your heart so
5:51 am
much warmer and lighter this holiday season. now, we talked about the giving tree right behind us. tell us a little bit about maybe people aren't familiar with the giving tre you see these little tickets. what can they do and how can people, you know, help out the humane society? yes. so this is the second year we've done the giving tree. and basically each tag has an item that people can come in and purchase, make a donation and some start at just $10. look at that. they start at $10. they go all the way up to $1,000. so we have something for everybody. and actually we have found that kids, this is a really great way to introduce kids to sort of the holiday spirit and donating. but things like one spay or neuter surgery for a shelter dog or cat ledecky for kittens. yeah, leafy greens for rabbits and guinea pigs. so we have something for everybody on the giving tree. and you come in, you can pull a tag off of the tree, make your donation, and then we have a spot where you can hang them up in the
5:52 am
shelter, and you can do it in, maybe in memory of somebody or in honor of a pet that's passed away. so we have it here. we have it at our neck. our other location in san jose and at either place. and nancy, everybody told me that last year somebody came in and bought the entire tree. so they were really in the holiday spirit. yeah, maybe that'll come into your heart this season and we'll be waiting here. maybe somebody will show up and buy the entire tree this year. everybody was buzzing that day. oh my gosh, how exciting. i bet. well nancy, thank you so much. as she said in the next segment, we're going to talk a little bit more about that special santa delivery could be emerald that's knocking on your door this holiday season. cute isn't she? so, so mellow. i know she's chill. i can't, you guys. you're gonna end up with a third dog in the air. i know right? i warned her before she went over there. your husband says no. he said. he says no. i know a good dog walker if you need one. thanks,
5:53 am
cynthia. well, speaking of dog walking, i mean, today is just going to be not so bad for some people, but not too bad. i mean, it's a little damp out there on the grass, even if it's not raining where you are. but we are going to have more wet weather into the weekend as we track it all with storm ranger. take a look at the north bay where we are seeing some widespread light rain. it's also moving into san francisco and as well into san mateo county. we are going to see this rain kind of off and on throughout the morning into the afternoon, but it does make that morning commute quite soggy. and you need the windshield wipers and just the needed safety to slow things down. that will be definitely necessary as you're driving to work as well as driving home. we're still in the thick of it with this storm system that's arriving, but the brunt of the storm will be hitting us overnight, and you can see that long line of clouds. that's the connection to the tropics. we call that the pineapple express or an atmospheric river. that's that
5:54 am
steady flow of moisture being pumped in from the pacific, and that can enhance the amount of rainfall that we see. so as we go hour by hour for much of the north bay, it's that's where we're seeing the wet weather. but even going into the afternoon that could move into the peninsula, parts of the east bay. and then here we are at 3:00 in the morning, where we start to see some red popping up here on the map. that's some very heavy rain, but it may get really intense early tomorrow morning between 7 and 8:00. by 8:00 we're seeing it pushing off towards the east and then getting some breaks in the activity, but there still may be some lingering showers throughout the morning. if you have saturday afternoon plans, it looks like it's clear and also looks good for sunday as well. it's mainly saturday morning where we're seeing the worst of it, and we could rack up an additional one to possibly inch and a half of rainfall from the san francisco to the east bay farther to the south. for the north bay, it's going to be much more closer to three inches of rainfall possible. and not
5:55 am
only that, but we're going to be watching out for king tides happening during the late morning hours for the next few days. that could create some localized flooding for the coastline and parts of the bay. but then we see another system arriving on monday that looksn and out of here fairly quickly and will be a lot weaker. and then for much of next week we are dry. but watching out for some more rain closer to christmas. so we are going to see a lot going on here, especially for the weekend with some gusty winds and temperatures staying in the 50s. and then on monday we're seeing the return of the rain, but mainly dry through much of next week. and the king tides continue this weekend with breezy winds in the forecast, a lot of it coming in early tomorrow morning. mike, you're still tracking the delay for the bay bridge. and that started early, especially for friday. metering lights were activated just after five this morning. the backup is actually recovering now. better now than it was ten minutes ago. there's more movement there, but there is a build at the berkeley curve
5:56 am
as more folks do come in for the east shore freeway. the earlier crash may still be on the shoulder as you're heading up the incline, but the lanes are now cleared. we had a big backup. there's still more slowing. the reason why those metering lights are needed anyway is slowing getting into san francisco and continuing down westbound 80 to south 101. there was a project yesterday that lasted until about 630. and so that's probably what's going on today as well. heard about some standing water from overnight as well. so do use that word of caution. a little slowing for highway 37. a couple of smaller incidents in vallejo, but not a problem for the freeways through the north bay. we are looking at no delays for highway four and just that build for san jose in the south bay north 101 expected back to you. all right mike, thank you. well happening now. postal inspections are inspectors, i should say, are asking for the public's help. this is to find the suspects responsible for two robbing letter carriers. now, video shows the suspect approaching a mailman. this is on parrott street in vallejo. last month, investigators say that he demanded the mail man's
