right now at six, awaiting the verdict. seven long days of jury deliberations and a decision is reached in the murder trial surrounding the death of cashapp founder bob lee. hopefully we will all get just a little bit of closure in a way. the problem is now being made by the victim's family. no matter what today's outcome may be. plus, amid its financial troubles linked to california wildfires. pg&e will now get a loan from president biden. the reason? the record setting amount of cash. a

and a foggy start across the bay area this morning. look at this commute. going to see it pretty much across the bay area. meteorologist kari hall tracking the dangerous conditions as you head out the door this morning. this is today in the bay. foggy start to the morning, but not for our vision towards the weekend. yes, we're thinking about it already. are you looking out there? it's tuesday. you got to think ahead. we're moving the bay area forward. yeah. and the prompter. it ss good wednesday morning. so let's just skip on through. obviously, they're trying to move ahead. moving ahead. yeah. happy tuesday. so let's talk about that weather. yeah it is foggy. and yes we're getting a clear view because jt as fast as the weekend is creeping up, so too will christmas as well. and so we're looking at some low visibility in spots as you got to go to work and make that of a mile visibility in santer francisco, as well as san jose and concord quarter mile visibility in some spots in
6:02 am
between these airport stations, it could be down to zero. so just allow some extra time to get there. this is a look at fremont where it's not too bad and we are going to see at times low visibility in some spots, some breezy winds. as you're heading out. those clouds will remain either at the roadway or just above the roadway, and then eventually clear out as we go throughout the day into the late morning into the afternoon, temperatures make it into the low 60s, and it's going to be a little bit milder and nicer than it was yesterday. so we can make some plans to get outside. i think 3 to 4:00 is like the best time of the day, where it feels nicer. mike, you are seeing some things might look different on the commute. yeah, even though the fog is, as you said, kari in many cases just above the deck. so just low clouds. it makes things look different, especially sometimes covering or obscuring those offramp signs and the surroundings that you used to using as references. so keep that in mind and lower those speeds. even though traffic looks like it's already kicking in toward the end of the year. slide right now. the first
6:03 am
slowing for san jose has already cleared up for north 101. this yellow highlighting. remember, that's the weather data translating to the conditions on the roads. low clouds, fog through the areas where it's highlighted in that color. we're actually getting a break for the tri-valley as far as the weather goes. and visibility is fine. 680 southbound. there's a disabled dirt hauler there just past the 84 merge. that's what's making things slow right now, blocking only one lane. but bob did talk about that fog as he drove through that area this morning. there's more fog through contra costa county. back to you. all right. thanks, mike. well, you know, after seven days of deliberations, is it all come down to this? at 930 this morning, the jury is set to announce its verdict in the murder trial of nima momeni. he's the man charged in the deadly stabbing of cashapp founder, bob lee. today in the bay. ginger conejero saab. she's live for us in san francisco this morning. and, ginger, i understand you spoke with lee's ex-wife. what is she saying about all of this? well, marcus christa lee, bob lee's ex-wife, is saying there is nervous
6:04 am
energy before the reading of today's verdict. but regardless of where the verdict may fall, she says her family believes that nima momeni killed her ex-husband, bob lee. now, she shared several photos with us. one of her and bob from 20 or so years ago. she told me they first met at a local spot in saint louis and shared two kids. she says they maintained a very close relationship even after splitting in 2018. bob's birthday would have been on friday and he would have been 45 years old. even though there is a vacant seat at our table, will still be able to celebrate him and at least a little bit of justice that we hope to get. now, christa and her family will be at the courthouse this morning. i'm also presuming that momeni family members of his family will also be there, as they have been throughout these whole proceedings. and ginger, before you go, let's talk about this, because a lot of times
6:05 am
when we look at these trials, we look at the length of deliberation there with the jury, with the seven days. does that speak to where this verdict will lead? well, legal experts, including stephen clark, who we spoke with, say that the amount of time that a jury deliberates may be indicative of where they lean. clark says there was a lot of evidence to sift through during this six week trial. they heard testimony from momeni sister, kathy vara, who was the key piece in connecting lee and nima momeni. the jury also heard from the defendant himself, who says he acted in self defense the night that lee was fatally stabbed. now prosecutors say different. they say momeni fatally stabbed lee to avenge sexual assault claims from his sister, and a man that lee introduced to her. prosecutors say momeni fled the scene and never called police. now, the jury was instructed to unanimously decide whether or not they believe momeni is guilty of first degreee murder. if they could not, they would
6:06 am
unanimously agree he is not guilty and then move down to lesser charges. we're likely to see a verdict somewhere between second degree murder and voluntary manslaughter. now, irregardless of today's verdict, marcus christa lee says that she plans on taking this even further. she plans on taking momeni sister, his mother and his brother in law in court. today's verdict will be read at 930. we will be there for that and give you the very latest in san francisco. ginger conejero saab. today in the bay. all right, ginger, thank you for that. and also don't forget make sure you are there so you don't miss the verdict when it is announced at 930. if you haven't already done so, you can download our free nbc bay area app. that way you can see our full coverage of the momeni trial. no matter where you are, we will be live streaming that as well as having it on air. the moment that verdict comes down just into our newsroom. a top

russian general is dead after a bombing attack in moscow. ukraine's security service claims its operatives carried out the mission one day after it opened a criminal investigation against him. the general served as chief of russia's nuclear, biological and cmical protection forces. he died from a bomb embedded in a scooter outside his apartment building. russia is vowing to respond in just a matter of hours. the house intelligence committee is expected to receive a briefing as questions remain over drone sightings across the u.s. we have a live look at capitol hill, where they will be meeting today in the bay's. brie jackson joins us live from washington this morning. and, bree, four federal agencies now speaking up ahead of today's briefing. they say the public has nothing to worry about. that's right. good morning. laura. so the group says that the drones are not from one entity, the fbi, the department of homeland security, the federal aviation administration and the defense department released a joint

the morning. meteorologist kari hall has been monitoring what we can expect throughout the day. is that going to burn off anytime soon? it's going to take a while, so we are going to be in with the fog and the low visibility for several hours. and it's also cool to start with upper 40s and low 50s for many of our microclimates. walnut creek, one of the cooler spots at 48 degrees with a calm wind. and as we take a live look outside in palo alto, you can see that a lot of the low visibility is just above the roadway. so the cars are moving at a regular pace, but you might want to just allow some extra time to get there in case you do hit one of those thicker patches of fog. it's 50 degrees here. we will remain at 50 degrees through 9:00. and then as the sky starts to clear a little bit, the sun peeks out. we'll gradually see temperatures warming up, and it will be actually a little bit above what's normal for this date. in santa rosa, we're looking at a high of 62, but we're used to seeing temperatures for this date in the upper 50s. so upper 50s for the average high. but
6:11 am
today it will be in the lower 60s. and mike, we're seeing gas prices going up or down. some are going down. but this one's holding steady there in the lead for the long run. livermore marathon stations continue with the best in the bay. 329. again at shops on holmes and south livermore. it continues in that top spot. and now we're looking to the second spot san francisco. 339 at gaugh on mission street. that's at silver avenue, just off to 80. and then in the south bay, their best today it's the same same name as we've been talking about different locations, though a better price by $0.02. it's 365 at dimond gas and market in san jose on south winchester boulevard. you can check your places for those changes. hopefully they're favorable. gasbuddy.com on the roadways, we are looking at pretty favorable speeds, a lot of green sensors, but that yellow highlighting means fog, lower visibility, low clouds, but the tri-valley. the problem is a disabled truck, a dirt hauler blocking one lane still south 680 just at 84,
6:12 am
causing both of those highways in their commute directions to be a problem there. north of there, the fog through contra costa county. here's walnut creek. we see more traffic south 680 heading down toward 24 and vasco road. this might be why it's such a long drive. back to you. all right. thanks, mike. it is 611 right now. waymo going overseas. coming up next, the latest city set to be taken over by driverless taxi. and back here at home. here comes the money. an investor promises lots of money. and everyone will benefit out to the futures this morning. we've had a long losing streak on the dow, the biggest since 2018. looks like that's continuing today. plus one east bay home getting national attention for its over-the-top christmas lights. that display is quite amazing. we're going to take a look at that experience and all the magic it brings when we return. keep it right here. you're watching today in the

expectation is they will cut rates a quarter point. what does that mean to you? well, you're paying way too much in credit card debt and it's way more than anything. the fed is thinking about. your car payment is probably fixed. your mortgage rate more related to the ten year bond than anything the fed does. so not much really, but we'll talk more about it tomorrow as we get the decision. the federal trade commission and president biden are announcing new rules on junk fees. you've heard about these before, but today they become official hotels or airbnb have to tell you about resort fees. ticket sellers have to add the convenience fee to the total price. but these brand new rules are much more narrow than we expected. car rental companies can still advertise one price charge you something else. same with airline tickets. they're exempt from these new rules as well. cell pne companies too. president elect trump met with softbank's masayoshi son at mar a lago yesterday, where he promised to invest billions in

american businesses, much of it tech. now we know this investor, masayoshi son, very, very well in silicon valley. he spent billions here on all kinds of startups. here's the president elect, and we've just concluded a very productive meeting. and today, i am thrilled to announce that softbank will be investing $100 billion in america, creating 100,000 american jobs at a minimum. and he's doing this because he feels very optimistic about our country since the election. now, the same pair made a similar announcement at trump tower shortly became before trump became president, the first time a venture capitalist does not need to stand alongside an incoming president to announce a new fund. it's not mr. trump's money, and the bank does not need his okay to make the investments. but why wouldn't you? masayoshi son kept his promise spent wildly, particularly here in the bay area. some ideas winners uber

comes to mind and some were a giant waste of softbank's money. investments like wework. the one that stands out in my head is his investment in a dog walking company called wag. some of you will come to your house kind of like a doordash or walk your dog. softbank sank $300 million into wag, a business not that different than the dog walking business you might have thought up when you were a kid. a third of $1 billion now, long before we knew masayoshi son and his money were coming back, we did a full breakdown of softbank spending in silicon valley with its head american investor on our podcast, sand hill road. the title inside softbank vision funds new billion dollar bets. you can find it in past episodes because it explains all of what's about to happen. and keep in mind, even if he makes a couple of dumb big investments again, dog walking that employs a ton of people who need to go to lunch, who need to get to pick up their dry cleaning, who need to have an uber. and if this man wants to come into the

competition for the house with the most holiday cheer. i think this one does pretty well. certainly does not disappoint. here, with more than 3000 lights and two christmas scenes with an ice rink. get that? wow. look, we've been checking out holiday light displays across the bay area, and you got a neighborhood you want to check out? well, let us know on social media. we're at nbc bay area. our app includes facebook as well as instagram. wow. no wonder why my son was saying we need more lights and a trolley and some reindeer. goodness gracious. an ice skating rink. i know it's a big property. cool. i would love a nice sweater. at least our holiday sweater. yeah. yeah. keep you cozy. be nice. if you could stay in this morning. it's been foggy. foggy? it's cold. it just feels so damp outside. and so we're going to have this linger for a few more hours. and visibility is pretty low in some spots down to a quarter mile.
6:21 am
even less than a few is very spotty areas, but we're now seeing quarter mile visibility in concord. three quarters of a mile is how far you can see in oakland. and we are seeing it just above the roadway for a lot of other spots as we take a look at concord. the fog will linger through 10:00, and as we go throughout the day, we don't see the temperatures rising very much. so it will be a chilly day even with the sunshine. but it will be nice to enjoy the sun for a little while before those temperatures start to dip back down to the low 50s after sunset and upper 40s at 9:00, we are seeing the storm track changing. we had such a busy pattern over the past week and a half, and so we're seeing it now lifting back to the north, and we're going to take a break from any rain chances. but if you are going to be traveling up to oregon or washington state will expect some rain tre, as we are going to see that continue at least for the next week or so. but eventually the rain comes back to the bay area. we'll see that on sunday, saturday as well as
6:22 am
sunday and then into next week. it's going to be a busy travel time, along with trying to navigate around all the storms coming in. we are looking at temperatures in napa in the low 60s, but it will be cooler for the weekend into next week as that rain moves in. so we're going to enjoy a nice little warm up here. upper 60s, which is above normal for this time of year. and mike, you're also tracking all the fog out there and the commute. the fog, in fact, may be more of a factor. you see some of the glow for the lights at the bay bridge. the volume. yeah, we filled in the toll plaza, but it's not as bad through contra costa county, through alameda county. smooth flow, a little bit of slowing for highway 24. the fog is the big factor. a disabled truck is a problem for 680 south toward 84, still blocking the slow lane and north 85.5. this is also gog on a crash and minor crash. north 85 blocks, one lane at el mino. back to you. excuse me. thanks, mike. 622 for you this morning, we are just days away from a historic flyby, so the

the way down to the bay area this past october, the sun has spread light in all of our lives this year, and now the sun is back in the news as nasa spacecraft prepares to make an historic close approach next week. after traveling for several years. seven years, i spoke with a nasa mission scientist who describes how the parker solar probe will be able to get close to the sun and what they're hoping to find out. the sun's surface is about 4500 degrees. pretty hot. but as we rise up and leave the surface of the sun, rather than cooling off, the particles become a million degrees hot. this enables the acceleration of the particles, but we do not understand the physics, the details of how this heating and acceleration takes place. the best way to do it to study it, isis to send a spacecraft and actually make the measurements
6:27 am
locally, make the magnetic make, measure the magnetic fields, measure the particles, and that will allow us to develop the necessary understanding, which can be then convertrted into spe weather prediction. the parker solar probe will reach its closest point to the sun the morning of christmas eve. it will take about three months for scientists to analyze all that data. the spacecraft has enough fuel to continue to gather information for an astounding 100 years. so this is not the last we'll hear of this mission. does it have solar panels or something? no. they have tput everything behind this really crazy heat shield because as he said, it's over a million degrees. so it's really interesting to hear them talk about that. pretty cool. yeah. plus, i could talk to that doctor all day long. yeah, i had a lot of questions, but it was like, okay, we got a very limited amount of time, right? very cool. thanks, gary. well, just ahead, kari tracking that dense fog advisory for parts of

tri-valley this morning, and it looks like it's starting to clear up just a bit behind you. i would definitely say the fog is patchy and yes, it does appear to be lifting. here we are in santa clara. we're not far from great america parkway and 101. it was foggy earlier, but we've always been able to see, you know, the distance. so it was never so bad that it was like pea soup. this was the view driving down 101 through santa clara around 415 this morning. the national weather service did issue this dense f advisory until 9:00 this morning, warning that visibility could be a quarter of a mile or less. but as you can see in this video, unfortunately that was not the case here in santa clara. i had no problem seeing the drivers in front of me. visibility? not really an issue. the only place i noticed dense fog on my drive in this morning was coming over highway 84 out of livermore, on onto 680 south. when i crested over what used to be pigeon pass. the fog fog was thick, probably because i was at an upper elevation, but again was able to see the brake lights in

lot of us, it's not too bad as we are seeing at least the ability to be able to see the lines. but this comes after we get some decent amount of rainfall. all that moisture in the air condenses and creates those suspended water particles that create the what we see. basically, a cloud on the ground is what we are seeing. but a lot of our cameras are a little bit higher up. notice that our camera vantage point here in san rafael is higher than the roadway. so what you're seeing at the surface level may not be too bad, but we are going to see that fog continue through 10:00 here in the north bay. and then it will be clearing out fairly quickly. and temperatures later today will actually be a little bit warmer than what's normal for this date, headed for the low 60s for santa rosa, concord, as well as san jose. mike, you're looking at one of our san jose cameras. that's right. so even though you can see the deck, as we've been talking about, and bob mentioned that it does make the context go away, we can't see the freeway that's

at this point in the transition, he's entitled to the very same classified briefings that president biden gets. trump says he thinks the government might be hiding something, but it's something he's entitled to find out about. meantime, people continue to post all kinds of mysterious lights on social media like these blinking red lights, which on closer examination, most commenters on the social networks say it probably radio tower beacon lights just too dark and foggy to see the radio towers, which is why radio towers have red flashing tower beacons. the former governor of maryland adding to the fray with a video he posted to social media. people a are rightfully clamorig for answers but aren't getting any. he wrote, the american people deserve answers. there's the video he supplied. user generated fact check system on x says based on the video and the time of day from the former governor, probably seeing stars, specifically the belt of the constellation orion, where those three stars make that perfect line. adding to the confusion,

it has improved slightly, so we're now at about a mile and a half. and looking at the bigger picture, yesterday we had some rain move throuough. now that hs moved out of the way, and we're seeing that long line of clouds, that atmospheric river and that pineapple express lifting well to the north. so we are going to be in the clear at least for a few more days. we are going to see that rain giving us a break for a while until saturday. that's our next chance of showers moving in. and i know saturday is a busy day. you're trying to get the shopping done and do all of those last minute things, because next week is christmas, we are going to see that rain coming in a bit of a break on sunday, and next week will be busy as well, with several storm systems moving by also bringing the sierra some more snow and even into christmas day and the day after. we're looking at more rain ahead. temperatures will be on the cool side. at least we will see a nice little warm up for the weekend. for livermore, parts of the tri-valley into the mid 60s, but next week it will
