dense fog drifting around, and it's going to make it a bit slower. at least you should plan on a slower drive, as our visibility is now down to a quarter of a mile in concord, but may be a lot less through the delta and parts of the east bay. and this is a look at the live view in walnut creek. so you can see the low clouds, at least at the roadway level it is clear. but we will see this hanging out through about 10:00 this morning and then eventually starting to clear out as we go into late morning, into the afternoon and our temperatures there only in the low 60s. mike, you're seeing a slower build to the commute, which is the tradition this time of year. it's the end of the year slide as far as the volume goes for the early commute. middays, afternoons, evenings really packed on local roadways here, the bay bridge toll plaza gradually building still doesn't have all the lanes filled on the approach, but the metering lights were turned on about their regular time. kari showed you this. we have some fog out here. the road weather index shows you it will influence the areas on either side of the delta. highway 4, showing a lot more slowing through concord

points on wednesday, continuing the longest slide in nearly 50 years after the head of the fed indicated there would be fewer interest rates coming in the coming year. so let's unpack this. the federal open market committee did cut rates by a quarter point, as expected yesterday, an indication the fed thinks inflation is coming under control but not there yet because powell said this and get ready for dry bureaucratic speak. with today's action, we have lowered our policy rate by a full percentage point from its peak. and our policy stance is now significantly less restrictive. we can therefore be more cautious as we consider further adjustments to our policy rate. okay. that was it. cautious about adjustments. that's the key. he means the fed is not necessarily going to cut
6:15 am
rates in the future as often as we thought. and why is that. well it's because of those the fed is uncertain as are we all about trump's coming tariffs. we know tariffs cause prices to rise. that is inflation. you don't cut rates in inflationary times. this isn't political. keep keep in mind trump appointed powell. this is just math. well you can now call chatgpt on the phone. it's a great way to try it out and find out what everybody is talking about. you really should be interacting with ai if you're not because your kids are, your coworkers probably are. and while trying it out really is as easy as logging on to the chatgpt website or downloading an app, it's even easier. call one 800 chatgpt you get 15 minutes free. you don't have to register. you can ask it anything like like super google. i've long said you will be surprised by how you find this useful. i can't tell you what to ask. i don't know your life, you

right. well, at least it's not raining today. it is foggy and we're starting out with a dense fog advisory in effect for these areas shaded in blue. it may not be as bad as it was yesterday. we're not seeing the fog as widespread, but still there are some patches of it where visibility drops down to a quarter mile or less. we're seeing that in concord and throughout the delta into the sacramento valley, as well as in the north bay. in santa rosa, visibility starts out at about a half of a mile. once it clears out, it's going to be a nice day, a mostly sunny afternoon, and in the mid 60s you see the warmer temperatures in the cities where we do expect the fog to lift a lot sooner, including the south county where highs today will make it into the low 70s. but martinez, concord, livermore. that fog will be with us for a lot longer, so it's not going to be as warm. and the widespread temperature range is because of the fog that we'll see not only today but the next couple of days. but then by saturday, it all cools down as clouds and

even rain arrives in the bay area. so here's a look at that system that's going to beoming in. we've timed it out to saturday, where we are going to see off and on showers throughout the day and into early sunday. there's still some lingering showers, but the next storm system comes in on monday. and if you do have travel plans next week ahead of the holiday, it's going to be one of those weeks where you have to plan your travel around the weather, because if you're flying, it's may possibly be delayed or you have to deal with some cancellations. but we also will see some heavy snow in the sierra. so if you're traveling east to and through the sierra, it's going to be at times a chain controls snow coming down and slippery conditions there. looking at how much rain we could see between the weekend into the first part of next week, the possibility of about 1 to 3in of rainfall for the north bay, but it could be much less for the south bay into the south county. san francisco may pick

up another inch and a half of rainfall, and saturday is our first day of winter, and we're going to see that rain coming in. it's going to feel like winter. cloudy on sunday, showers late monday into tuesday, which is christmas eve, and it may be raining by the time santa visits. but clearing out christmas day. and mike, you're seeing a backup now in richmond. yeah, but you showed how christmas is on the 7-day forecast. as we get to the end of the year holidays, we see lighter traffic. we talked about san jose state celebrating some graduations, colleges are getting out. and last week for most elementary and primary high schools as well. so we're seeing the lighter approach to the richmond bridge. there's still a backup and it's still a commute in toward the north bay. we also still have fog and low clouds. but look at highway 37 not a big deal. and the fog less registering here on our road weather index. it is across the benicia bridge and watch out through concord where we've been seeing slowing typical of highway four north 680 starting to see better sensor reads. i believe they've cleared those crews that have been sticking around since overnight. the roadway is open. it's those onramps where those crews

most farmers are eating the rise in production cost, you can expect to pay between 70 and $120, depending on the size and type. and we often think of half moon bay or castro valley as the best spots in the bay area to go cut down your own tree, but the majority of precut real trees and retail stores come from oregon, with 45% of the trees grown there shipped to california. the warmer, slightly warmer temperatures, slightly less rain results in more stress on the trees. and because of that, less stress that we're seeing on the trees are more stressed. we're seeing on the trees. we're also seeing more favorability going to the proliferation of diseases and insects. and so these two things kind of come together. and when they come together, you basically get trees that are are going toe more stressed. and so we're seeing a little bit of that with the christmas tree industry. but we see that across the landscape with all types of conifers and the forestry sector, to see more climate

and democrats to keep the government funded has gone bust. scott mcgrew you were telling us just yesterday the deal was bloated with special interests and that seems to wreck the deal. yeah, it really did. good morning. we were saying that a continuing resolution to keep the government open is as simple as a couple of words on a cocktail napkin, but instead, the deal they were dealing with, full of spending, good spending, perhaps hurricane relief help for farmers, but spending, it seemed to be the only deal that republican speaker of the house mike johnson could push through. he needs some democratic votes in most cases, because he can't depend on all republicans to vote yes. but elon musk started tweeting about this, and then trump reacted and told republicans to vote no on the deal. musk, any member of the house or senate who votes for this outrageous spending bill deserves to be voted out in two years. he then reposted a picture of himself with a sword, ready to chop the continuing resolution bill in half. media
