that it will be very difficult to avoid a shutdown tonight. >> all right, ryan. thank you. let's get a closer look at the potential impact of a government shutdown, and it could be far-reaching for american families in this push. this is terrible timing. people are going places. they're traveling. they're sending gifts. how will they be impacted there? >> for people trying to factor in extra time because it is the holidays, now they might have to factor in longer time because of the airports. tsa workers were deemed essential. they had to report to work, but they were going without pay. so some opted to not show up at all. it only takes a few air traffic controllers or screeners to not show up to produce a bottlenecks. and usps says that government impacts do not affect them. but the deadlines for most standard shipping have already passed. if it doesn't get there in time. >> what about social security checks? >> really important questions

there. social security administration as well as medicaid checks would continue to go out completely uninterrupted. however, the issue is there are some workers at the social security administration as well as the centers for medicaid and medicare that might be furloughed. if you are trying to call them to ask a question, maybe to even enroll, that could lead to longer wait times. so be aware of that. >> the people that would be really hurt are members of the military and government workers. >> yeah. because in some cases they would report to work and not get paid until this government shutdown gets lifted. there is retro active pay that's guaranteed for members of the military as well as government workers once the shutdown is lifted if that does end up being the case. but they would have to continue without pay for however long

this endures, which we have no crystal ball into. >> can you imagine? right before the holidays you are not getting your paycheck. >> and no idea when that might clear. >> brian, thank you so much. all right. this morning, amazon is insisting that holiday deliveries won't be impacted by the unexpected strike launched by the teamsters union. it happened at facilities across the country. but with thousands of workers walking off the job and christmas and hanukkah five days away, a lot of customers are on edge. priya sridhar is at one of the facilities affected. >> reporter: that's right. the teamsters are calling this a historic strike saying thousands of workers walked off the job and on to the picket lines yesterday, which represents 1% of the 1.5 million people who work for the retail giant. now amazon is firing back saying that these people are not their employees and that none of this is having an impact on their operations. from new york and georgia to california and illinois, the teamsters union says delivery drivers for amazon and workers

at some facilities have walked off the job, demanding better pay and working conditions. >> you want to make sure that every customer gets their packages, but we also need what we deserve. >> reporter: teamsters union says amazon missed the deadline. to negotiate a first labor contract with their employees who want sick leave, more paid time off, and wages that are comparable with fedex and ups. but amazon says these workers are not their employees and that they're only seeing protests, not strikes, at a handful of its facilities. amazon says only 1% of its workforce are union members and that some of the people demonstrating outside their facilities actually work for third party contractors. >> we have hundreds of facilities across the country. and we're seeing some protests at a variety of facilities. but, again, very few amazon employees or drivers who drive on behalf of our company are

involved in those protests. >> reporter: amazon says this work action will have minimal impact on its operation. shipping experts agree it won't signally delay deliveries, but there may be some holdups. >> if you want to get it in one or two days, it may end up taking two or three. >> reporter: and with christmas just five days away, the union is aware this season is key and so is the group representing some starbucks workers. starbucks workers announced five days of escalating strikes during the christmas rush. the union says walkouts will begin in los angeles, seattle and chicago and spread to other areas protesting wages and other labor disputes, while starbucks says the union ended bargaining prematurely and that the company offers competitive average pay and best in class benefits, adding we need the union to return to the table. now the teamsters union said throughout the day yesterday more and more amazon workers were walking off the job. i can tell you at least at this facility here in georgia, at its peak we saw about 25

demonstrators. they did admit to me they don't work directly for amazon but rather for third party contractors. savannah? >> thank you. meanwhile, the accused killer of a prominent healthcare ceo is back in new york facing an expanded list of prosecutors and they are revealing more details from their investigation. stephanie gosk is here with the latest. >> on thursday, mangione's day ended in a brooklyn jail cell about ten miles from here. in-between, he was handed new federal charges, including murder that could result in the death penalty if he's convicted. this morning, luigi mangione is back in new york city to face charges landing thursday after being extradited from pennsylvania where he was arrested.

the 26-year-old accused of murdering united healthcare ceo brian thompson was handcuffed, shackled and escorted by law enforcement. >> we want to send a very clear, loud message that this act of terrorism is something that will not be tolerated in the city. >> reporter: mangione hit with stalking and a murder charge that could carry the death penalty. that's on top of 11 state criminal charges in new yorkrk, including murder in the first degree in the furtherance of terrorism. the newly unsealed federal complaint also revealing new details in the investigation, saying mangione undertook extensive efforts to identify, place under surveillance and track the victim's whereabouts in the time period leading up to the murder. in the hours before the shooting on at least one occasion, the shooter was depicted using a cell phone. it does not specify who mangione may have been talking to. the documents detail what was inside the notebook that was recovered during his arrest at a pennsylvania mcdonald's last

week. according to the complaint, mangione had pages related to the healthcare industry. he wrote, the details are finally coming together, adding the target is insurance because it checks every box. his day thursday began in a pennsylvania courthouse where he told a judge he was waiving his right to an extradition hearing. he was then immediately taken into custody by new york law enforcement, driven to the airport where a plane was waiting. ultimately, a helicopter bringing him to lower manhattan and his first appearance before a federal judge. he has not entered a plea in either the state or federal case. >> we're going to respectfully decline to make any comment at this time. >> mangione will be detained until his next hearing in january. he's currently behind bars at the metropolitan detention

good morning. it's 726. i'm kris sanchez, and we have breaking news this morning. san francisco police say a hit and run suspect is dead after being shot by officers near union square. that shooting happened about 130 this morning near post and stockton. police say about seven hours earlier, that same suspect allegedly drove onto a sidewalk a few blocks away in the tenderloin and struck and injured two pedestrians, and then also went after a bicyclist in the car. police located that suspect and they say he was armed. officers opened fire. that suspect later died at the hospital. i'm bob redell. later this morning, we will get a better sense of how the state of california is protecting us from the bird flu. at 11 a.m.m, the california department of public health, along with the california department of food and agriculture, will talk about how the state is protecting us and our livestock against this illness. fortunately, the state

breaking news out of san francisco. san francisco police say a hit and run suspect is dead after being shot by officers near union square. this is video from citizen app. the shooting happened about 130 this morning. this is near post and stockton. and police say about seven hours earlier, that same suspect drove onto the sidewalk. this is a few blocks away in the tenderloin, injuring two pedestrians. now, he also went after a bicyclist. when police located that suspect, they say he was armed and officers opened fire. our ginger conejero saab will have more of that during our 8 a.m. streaming newscast. also in san francisco, a woman tied to a death that sparked outrage last year is scheduled to make her first court appearance this year. is t victim, 63 year old yanfang wu, who died in july from a head injury after she was shoved to the sidewalk in the bayview district. at the time, police ruled it an accident and no arrests were made, sparking outrage because the woman accused of pushing her was later

♪ we're back at 8:40 with love your mornings. the holidays are all about enjoying yourself, doing fun things with family and friends, giving gifts. but when it comes to food, two-thirds of us say we over indulge during the most wonderful time of the year. and nearly half of americans take a break from their holiday routines. we have to get back on track, so we called our expert. so exercise is one of the first things that goes away. maybe you are at someone else's house. maybe you are in a hotel. maybe your family is there and you don't feel like you can. what should you do? >> absolutely. when it comes to over indulging, don't stop, but moderate. when you are in the airport, some shoulder rolls or head rolls go a long way. >> basic stuff. >> basic stuff. really prepping your body. hamstrings, quad stretching. make sure you add stretches wherever you are, before a train or a flight or if it's delayed

that. >> this is parmesan and fennel. you keep it even. so when we are cooking it, we can flip it without any issue. >> i love it. you are in a cast iron here. >> three minutes on each side and two minutes in the oven. what i love about the links, if you like the big, fat sausage, cook that. but these cook quicker. on the sandwich, they're easier to eat. >> i love that. look at our tasters. >> come on out. okay. >> are you ready? >> you can hear that crunch. >> that is my calling card, okay? my favorite bread. what we will do is drizzle this with a little olive oil. one of my favorite cheeses is provolone. it is a little bit sharp, right? anthen we hit it with this that we have. >> i'm glad you put vegetables in there. do you guys like the vegetables or too vegetably? >> if you are not a meat lover, this is a sandwich on its own.

sandwich breading procedure. we will do some flour and then some egg. i love these thongs because you don't have to get your hands dirty. >> i end up washing my hands like 600 times. >> this is the best part. you will really squish it down because we want the chicken to be completely covered. all right. we have our oil simmering here. this is the secret. be low and slow. so put your cutlet in here. and just push it away from you. >> low and slow. >> drop it in. >> no, don't do that. >> you don't want to get burnt. >> what kind of oil is that? >> low and slow. >> i love to fry in olive oil. but if you are a canola oil fan or you want to do a half and half, you can do it. we will cook this for two to three minutes on each side. again, very quickly. what i love about these cutlets is if you put your oven at 200 degrees, you can make a stack of them and keep them warm. >> they're wrapping us.

♪ repeat the sounding joy, repeat the sounding joy ♪ ♪ repeat the sounding joy ♪ ♪ we repeat the sounding joy ♪ good morning. it's 8:56 a.m. marcus washington. we are following breaking news. a hit and run suspect is dead after being shot by officers near san francisco's union square. that shooting happened about 130 this morning near post and grant, which you can see from this citizen app video. now, a short time ago, police gave the first update. they say that the suspect worked as a guard at a nearby dior store, and he was wanted. after dring onto the sidewalk about seven hours earlier. this is when his car struck and injured two teenage girls leaving a nearby chipotle. the girls did not suffer serious

injuries, but he also went after a bicyclist. at one point when police located the suspect after midnight, they found him near the store. they say that he was armed and officers opened fire. police are not saying anything about the suspect firing his weapon, but they do say that officers recovered a gun at the scene. they're also asking for witnesses to come forward. that investigation is still in the early stages, and police plan to provide an update in a town hall in the coming days. happening now r us. ourfo
