tracking the warnings now in place for parts of the bay area and parts of the world already ringing in 2025. look at this. from new zealand to australia, we have a look at the celebrations already underway this morning. this is today in the bay. well very good tuesday morning to you. new year's eve i'm scott mcgrew, filling in for marcus. and i'm laura garcia. welcome to this final day of the year. all right. it's a cold start to our morning as well. and i would imagine it's going to be cold through the day. yeah, it will be. it will be a gradual warm up, so might not be till mid morning where we start to feel that sunshine warmth. finally we are looking at some frost advisories in place, the freeze warnings and the purple up towards the north bay and some of the foothills down here in the south bay. notice though, that parts of san francisco and the immediate coastline aren't in this. it just takes a little bit longer to cool down those temperatures out by the water, as it does in our inland valleys. and that's where we
6:01 am
look at the freezing numbers right now through parts of danville, approaching that right now in parts of san martin. 35 for you. 33 in boulder creek, the low 40s right there in the immediate bay. so not as cold as places up in the north bay. 34 in santa calistoga right now. but as we go on and talk about our new year's eve plans, it will be dry and cool. but staying dry for people to be out and about. we'll walk you through that forecast, but then things might change as we talk into the first couple of days of 2025, with the chance of rain coming in once again. but mike, let's go over and start at the bay bridge toll plaza. what's going on? well, we're getting an idea for how much traffic is out there. and as you can see, light traffic, not as many people out and about today. i think some folks might be sleeping in or not going to work and trying to get some rest so they can stay up through midnight. i'm looking at the north bay highway 37, where we saw a little bit of slowing about a half hour ago. it's cleared up, so we're basically at speed once again. light traffic flow indicated
6:02 am
here by no slowing on highway four as well. great drive getting across the bay. visibility, maybe a patch or two of fog. we're watching for that. and one disabled vehicle on the incline for west 92. no other problems. back to you. all right, mike, thanks. this morning we have new details, including new video from san francisco police showing the moments which led up to a deadly police shooting near union square earlier this month. obviously, some of these clips may be hard to watch today. in the bay's jocelyn moran has the story. terrifying moments caught on surveillance video not far from union square. it was december 19th. three people can be seen on kearny street street as a black suv drives onto the sidewalk and hits at least one of them. hello, me and my friend just got hit by a car. police also sharing that 911 call detailing how the chaos unfolded that night. the video shows that black suv hitting a cyclist who is able to run off. the driver of the suv takes off too, but not before swiping the cyclist's bag. police quickly identify him as peter hodge. tonight, they
6:03 am
shared police body camera video of their plan to take hodge into custody. hours after the hit and run. so right now, he's parked in front of dior. all right. he's in that black yukon. last time we saw him, he was in the front seat. so you ran him? he has what? a pistol and a rifle. so he has a bunch of pistols. one rifle. so there's a bunch of pistols, one rifle. we don't know about where the rifle is or anything, but we know that he's armed with a pistol. during their investigation, officers located the suspect, who was working as an armed security guard. their video then cuts to officers approaching hodge outside the dior store. he's coming out. hey, peter. don't move. officers order him to put his hands up. put your hands up! get up! hands up! wait wait wait wait. are you worried about. we're going to use force against you. just put your hands up. put your hands up! hodge turns. police deploy a bolawrap to try to restrain him. hey, i'm gonna wrap him right. but it doesn't seem to work. officers then hit
6:04 am
him with a beanbag round, but that didn't seem to stop him either. moments later, officers opened fire after it appears hodge draws a gun on them. sfpd enhanced the body cam video showing hodge raised the weapon before officers fired. we are not showing the moment he was hit. video also shows officers rendering aid. police say hodge died at the hospital. a glock was recovered at the scene. we still don't know why hodge was cyclist. police want to talk to him. we're still looking for him. we'd like for him to come to us. he is a victim in this case. the da's office is also investigating. jocelyn moran, nbc, bay area news. well, new at six. gruesome discovery as the search is now suspended for two men who were swept out to sea off the coast two days before christmas. we've learned a body was seen floating in the monterey bay over the weekend. it was spotted by crew members and sightseers aboard a whale watching boat sunday morning. however, weather conditions
6:05 am
prevented the coast guard from retrieving the body. there's no way for us to know with absolute certainty that this body that was observed by the whale watching crew was, in fact, either of the two individuals that were swept out to sea on the 23rd. this could be an unreported individual. the whale watching boat stayed on scene for about an hour after it called the coast guard. first responders could not dispatch a boat until two hours later, and by that time the body could not be found. 604 plans now set for the nation to say goodbye to former president jimmy carter. official memorials begin saturday, when a procession will take the former president's body past his childhood home, and then to atlanta to lie in repose. on january 7th, the late president will return to the capitol rotunda in washington until the state funeral on january 9th.ter will go home, where he will be buried in plains alongside his wife, rosalynn, who died last year.
6:06 am
stick with nbc all throughout the week, both on air and online. we will bring you that special coverage of the nation's farewell to president carter. less than 18 hours to go until the bay area officially rings in 2025. but all morning long, we're taking a look across cities across the world that are actually already celebrating. video from new zealand. the country celebrating the arrival of 2025 from auckland's sky tower with a fireworks and light show featuring the synchronized soundtrack. more than eight and a half miles of electrical cabling and wiring were required to pull it all off. and joining the party at 5 a.m. bay area time australia video from sydne. more than 1 million people watched the fireworks display around the city's famous opera house and harbor bridge. and if you're planning to ring in the new year, right here, cinthia pimentel is with has a look at the forecast because it's important we get a lot of fog.
6:07 am
we do. and that ruins the fireworks at times. of course, it ruined the blue angels. remember earlier in this year. so that's something that we'll continue to watch. but if you're staying here or traveling, either plan is good. let's take a look at our travel forecast across the state. maybe a few showers up towards the northern coast. we see right here in the bay, keeping some low 60s for the south bay, and that sunshine up towards tahoe. also, roads look clear and good to go. let's head down south 75 degrees in palm springs. that sounds nice right about now, after starting with a cold morning, and as we go on into tonight, it will be cold once again and cloudy at times. those clouds rolling back in later on tonight in parts of the city. so we'll watch that and see how the models clear them out. maybe you can be also our eyes out there and let us know that report. we go on and talk about our inland valleys. that's where the numbers will drop down quicker as we see those numbers coming down right around 6:00 into the 40s in some
6:08 am
spots, maybe the low 40s and some 30s, as we take a look at those valleys. so we'll continue to watch the forecast for tonight. but people going out and about need to find those cheap gas prices. mike, where are they? we're doing our best. we'll start in the south bay, folks, with sunnyvale's low. not for the entire south bay, but for the city. it's 363. great gas on north matilda avenue lower elsewhere in santa clara county. but that's the best for sunnyvale. same situation for alameda county. we'll check the low for fremont specifically at 375 at warm springs. gas on warm springs boulevard in the middle here. now, the best price in marin county. the whole county. that's 377 at san anselmo as far as gato auto on sir francis drake boulevard. there are changes. we're looking at your area. will you look at your area? gasbuddy.com? because i don't know exactly where you live. that would be a privacy thing. on the roadways, we have mostly green sensors. good stuff. light traffic like yesterday. folks probably want to stay up late tonight. so not up so early this morning. altamont pass shows no slowing. yesterday we did see a
6:09 am
considerable amount starting up about this time, but that was really the only slowdown. top of the screen highway 37 has not shown much except for one little dip in speeds earlier this morning. it's all clear there. the bay bridge shows a little more traffic, but no metering lights. back to you. all right, mike, thanks. the u.s. treasury department hacked, and it could have been from china next. the way the hackers were able to infiltrate the system. plus, a settlement reached eight years after angelina jolie and brad pitt divorced. the reason it took so long. and move over. millennials, get out of the way. gen z, there is a new generation in town. we'll introduce you to them when we return. you're watching today in the bay.

telemundo. thank you. also trending with the new year often comes new goals. and according to a new poll by the associated press, many people will focus on eating healthier excercising, saving money, losing weight. another big one was focusing on mental health and ending bad habits. yeah, that looks pretty familiar to last year's set of things, which, you know, every year, every year and you know, more power to you. i hope you, i hope you succeed. that would be great. probably not. maybe learn something new or organize a little bit. yes, we'll do something. do you have any resolutions? yes. i plan on cleaning and being better organized at my home office. and then tracy did it for me, so that was great. oh, yeah. so i'm going to try the same for next year's resolutions. have your wife do it. i just put a list out there that tracy can look at all year. that's a true honey do list. that was a great gift. maybe clean up something for her. oh, yeah. that's a little spa day for tracee tracy i tried. right. what about you,

6:18 am
we do have those 30s continuing out towards parts of the east bay. 32 in danville, 36 right now in livermore, low 40s around parts of san mateo into palo alto. we start to get into the 30s, though, and that carry us into south san jose at 36 degrees right now. and then we'll stay in the south bay and talk about our microclimates for today. we might feel it a little bit warmer down here compared to the rest of the region, where we could see some low 60s for san jose down into gilroy, but everybody else not really breaking through the 50s out there in the east bay along the peninsula as well. we see 57 in half moon bay, upper 50s for the outer sunset to maybe getting into that 59. in the mission, we go up towards the north bay. after a chilly morning we will feel the sun, but the numbers will also not break through the upper 50s there for today as we go on into the evening time and maybe some firework activity right there through san francisco, we're going to notice some clouds creeping back in into our evening time, but i'm
6:19 am
going to stop it right around approaching midnight hour. we could see a little bit of a break through, so it might just be some patchy fog. you'll know where to go based on your location in the city tonight. now, as we go on and take this, fast forward into wednesday, new year, new rain chances as we go on, and maybe get some light activity up there towards the north. and that should continue as we go through the day, the rest of us getting into some sunny spots, but i see it carrying it through wednesday too, as there's just a couple of systems way to our north. the better rain maker i see here will be as we go on into our first weekend of 2025, but don't worry the rest of it. saturday and sunday we should see those skies starting to clear for people in san francisco and along the peninsula will stay mostly in the 50s. and as we go on and track our start of the new year, we should see some skies starting to clear and that rain chance returning on friday. we'll watch it as we get closer. still days away. that's next year. cynthia's problem there is an alert for bart riders though.
6:20 am
mike, what do you want them to know? that's right. and, well, maybe that's no longer our problem either. it's coliseum station was reporting a police activity with no train stopping, but i believe the update have to decipher it. read it again. but i believe the update is they're recovering. i believe that means the coliseum station is once again open for service. there was again police activity. fruitvale is next to the north and san leandro just a bit to the south. but i think you can get back to the coliseum station. i'll verify that. check your bart status and your and your updates there as well. if you are a bart rider, watch those overhead signs. meanwhile, the roadways around the bay are moving very smoothly. there may be a new incident in the fremont area just popping up on our map. i'll get more detail once chp files that report, but so far, smooth. easy drive, including the bay bridge with no backup and easy flow. back to you. thanks so much, mike. well, next on today in the bay nbc bay area responds in 2024. nbc bay area responded, i'm consumer investigator chris chmura. straight ahead a look back and one story we are watching into 2025.

play our best. so with the loss, the 49ers record falls to six and ten. they will close out the regular season next sunday at arizona. there's a chance the niners could sit brock purdy and start josh dobbs at quarterback. i'm anthony flores for today in the bay. that will be interesting to see. thanks anthony. we've got a lot more ahead at 630 including norovirus is surging across the u.s. this winter. and that includes the bay area. the steps you need to take to avoid getting sick. plus, authorities are pleading with people to avoid illegal fireworks this new year's eve. the one city here in the east bay where residents say the problem is now becoming something that is year round. stay with us. you're
