community groups, anti-r groups, immigrant rights groups, unions and others coming together part of a day of action with other cities in the u.s. trump has threatened to have mass deportations on day one, and we're taking those threats really seriously. there's also an extremely right wing agenda laid out in project 2025 that includes attacks on the labor movement, on women's rights, on workers rights, on immigrants, and so are so many others. and that's exactly actually the reason that so many sectors of society are coming together to fight back. they joined forces, many today with free palestine signs and messages, but some carried signs for reproductive and trans rights and climate. along with those organized groups, there were individuals who wanted to be with others. as trump prepares to take office again. the priorities of people like trump and all the people who are going to be in the front row at the inauguration are not the people's priorities at all, period. there are so many concerns when it comes to the

1000 to 2000ft. you see the wind advisories going into effect tonight. we will see the potential of wind gusts going above 45mph as early as 11:00 tonight. and those winds, those gusty, dry offshore winds reaching their peak as we head through about midday tomorrow. so a combination of the cold and dry and gusty across the hilltops. and speaking of dry and gusty, unfortunately southern california set to see high wind warnings and red flag warnings going back into effect. we'll give you the latest there. and when we're expecting the strongest winds to our south, and if we might see any rain chances lurking as we head towards the 7-day forecast and moving forward into next weekend. a closer look at that coming your way in about ten minutes. all right rob, thanks. tiktok is back. it's restoring service to millions of u.s. users after going dark last night. the video platform service has shut down its app in response to a federal ban put in place because of national security concerns. the feds they demanded tiktok divest from its chinese parent company or face
6:07 pm
fines unless it sells to a u.s. company. today, tiktok posted a statement on x saying its decision to return comes after president elect trump provided assurances that its service providers will not face any penalties. this was a really helpful platform for a lot of small businesses, a lot of artists, a lot of musicians, and it just didn't really seem fair to want to take that down. my friend opened the app and she was like, oh my gosh, we can go on again. so i think everyone, including myself, is really excited and we hope it stays. mr. trump, who, if you remember, had previously said he supported the ban, now says he will most likely give tiktok a 90 day extension through an executive order after he takes office tomorrow. all right, let's take you overseas now. it's the first test of a pretty fragile cease fire between israel and hamas. the truce officially started at 11:15 a.m. local time, and three israeli hostages are now free and return to their mother's arms after 470 days in
6:08 pm
captivity. drone footage showed them getting out of a red cross vehicle and being greeted by israeli military personnel. now, israel also released 90 palestinian prisoners, women and teenagers in exchange for those three young hostages, and humanitarian aid is beginning to enter the gaza strip. the hope is that this is the first of what will be many quiet days and the end of bloodshed in gaza. president biden, before officially leaving the white house, is now taking credit for his part in the gaza ceasefire and hostage release. and after so much pain, destruction and loss of life today, the guns in gaza have gone silent. i've worked in foreign policy for decades, and this is one of the toughest negotiations i've been part of. many of you have followed these negotiations will attest that the road to this deal has been not easy at all. and the long road. but we've reached this point today because of the pressure israel built on hamas, backed by the united states. now, it is not clear
6:09 pm
just how long this tentative truce will hold. but today was a critical step. netanyahu yesterday warned that he had trump's backing to continue fighting if necessary. meanwhile, on his last trip as president, joe biden traveled to charleston, south carolina, today, joined by the first lady, the president observed martin luther king junior day with the congregation of the royal missionary baptist church. throughout his remarks, biden focused on redemption and mercy, mentioning his clemency and pardons for nonviolent drug offenders. president biden has had a meaningful relationship with the state of south carolina. it was south carolina, if you remember. democrats delivered biden his first presidential primary win in february 2020 and helped to solidify his victory over trump later that year. i prayed with you here in february of 2020 when i was running for president, and m final full day as president of all the places i wanted to be, was back here with

battery fire that broke out three days ago at the vistra energy power plant. the blaze, you might remember, erupted at one of the world's largest battery storage facilities about 20 miles north of monterey. about 1500 people were initially ordered to evacuate, but were allowed to return the next day. highway one fully reopened about an hour ago, and recent testing by the epa found that toxic chemicals that burned off from those lithium ion batteries inside the storage plant did not make it outside the facility. well, it has been nearly two weeks now since wildfires erupted in the los angeles area. here's a look at where containment stands tonight. the palisades fire is 52% contained
6:13 pm
after burning nearly 24,000 acres. ten people were killed in that fire and almost 5000 structures destroyed. the eaton fire is 81% contained, while smaller at about 14,000 acres. it caused even more devastation. 17 deaths are being blamed on the eaton fire and the destruction of nearly 10,000 structures. aid for victims of the fires continue to pour in from around the country, including communities here in the bay area. in sonoma today, meadowcroft wines and cook of the books joined forces for a fundraiser to benefit those affected. there's live music, fresh pizza, a silent auction and of course, wine. people in the area know all too well the heartbreak and struggle wildfires can bring. among those who stepped forward to contribute, the mayor of american canyon again. i would second, you know, the fire is very close to home here. impacted us. and we know what it's like. so yeah, we're doing a fundraiser to benefit the american red cross and the best friends emergency pet relocation

is where i build. wittman's backyard patio in south pasadena is where he assembles these sprinkler systems. since he started his company, brushfire battle systems, in 2019, wittman estimates he's built about 80 units. i even have one on the big island of hawaii. after lahaina burned down, he called me soon. he's going to need more space. it's awesome. there's ananother pne call and help. we're going to do it. we're going to do it right. wittman says he's gotten about 200 inquiries since the sta of the palisades fire tuesday. and those are just the emails and voicemails he's checked. this is my passion project, and it's turned into a little more than a passion project. wittman is not a firefighter. he's an environmental sciences teacher at alhambra high school who says he's passionate about his subject and his community. and i'm like, what the hell? why aren't people using their pools to fight, fire, and protect themselves? so i started researching high pressure water pumps. i started researching agricultural irrigation systems. wittman's units sell for about

$1,500 to several thousand dollars in investment, he says, not only protects homeowners. we got to get the water out of the pools and into the neighborhoods, but also communities. i want to give their house a fighting chance. that's really what it comes down to, is put up a fight. that is an interesting contraption there. all right. rob is here now. rob. the los angeles area preparing for more extreme weather. and governor newsom actually, earlier tonight already pre-positioning some more fire crews in that area. so how bad is it going to get? it's unfortunate. it's the combination of high wind warnings which is the higher tier of wind warnings. the top wind speeds with this event expected to be about 70 to 80mph across the hills. and unfortunately, a new red flag warning that's going to extend across two days. first up, the high wind warnings. these are the areas in brown from ventura county, l.a. county, orange county off to the east, there near san bernardino, riverside counties. and actually the red flag warnings extend down east of san diego. and if you look closely, this includes the channel islands and catalina

island offshore. you don't see that often, and let alone you usually do not see it at all in january. but here's the situation as we continue to see regan here that hasn't seen much measurable rain since before last summer. now, 1:00 tomorrow afternoon, wind gusts speeds across those mountains northwest of los angeles. 60 to 80mph could be locally higher on those ridge lines. and there you see the wind speeds staying strong through about midday tuesday. and then eventually by tuesday evening, wind speeds start to settle down again across southern california. now, closer to home, we'll have our own taste of offshore winds, just not as strong in most of those will be up on the north bay mountains for the wind sheltered valleys. some chilly mornings ahead. as you're about to see frost advisories up for parts of the bay area tonight, 47 degrees right now in san francisco looking at the clear skies, 45 in san rafael. and as you head inland over towards walnut creek, 47 degrees and san jose still sucked in by the clouds. the clouds never left. we didn't have enough mixing of the

atmosphere to bring down drier air, and there is the pocket of gloom throughout the day. san jose down into morgan hill. but watch what happens later this evening and early tomorrow morning. the fog makes a comeback. then look at the time stamp there starts to go away. it's because the winds are going to pick up that's going to mix down the drier air. help to break up the fog. give us more sunshine tomorrow, but it's going to be gusty in the north bay mountains. we'll see wind speeds of about 45 to 50 mile per hour gusts, maybe locally higher up near mount saint helena. and then as we head into monday night and tuesday morning, wind speeds do come down. so dayside tomorrow breezy and dry around the bay area. after that chilly start to the morning, most wind sheltered valleys waking up to the 30s tomorrow morning. then we'll see. breezy, dry conditions, more sunshine, which means a chance of 60s again around san jose, low 60s into san francisco and oakland. overall, the weather pattern not changing. this is the reason we're not seeing any rain. this continues to block incoming storms. what we get instead are cooler, windy, and dry weather systems that drop down on the eastern

flank of that ridge of high pressure. we're hopeful this might scoop up a little bit of moisture, and at least bring a chance of showers closer to parts of california for the weekend, but right now looks mainly breezy and cool as we head into next weekend. so short term, watching the winds across the north bay hills for tomorrow, frosty temperatures next few mornings, a little warmer during the day as we head into wednesday and thursday, then stay tuned next weekend a chance of sierra, snow showers and possibly some showers around the bay area early next weekend. hopefully that brings some relief to our friends in southern california. yeah. all right rob, thanks. all right. still ahead, president elect trump says his administration will be partnering with tech titan apple. so what exactly can we expect? what we know so far.
