actions before he tossed pens into the crowd. there, he signed dozens of executive orders, including declaring a national emergency along the us-mexico border and ordering construction on his border wall to resume after leaving capital one arena. you see him here inside the oval office signing more orders, sir. this this next order relates to the definition of birthright citizenship under the 14th amendment of the united states. that's a good one. birthright. that's a big one. that he did this informal q&a with reporters inside there in the oval office for about an hour. another topic, international conflict, specifically the recent cease fire deal struck between hamas and israel. mr. trump said he's not sure the peace will hold. how confident are you, mr. president, that you can keep the cease fire in gaza and conclude the three phases of this deal? i'm not confident that's not our war. it's their war. but i'm not confident. president trump also

commenting on the scale of the devastation in gaza. he said he might help rebuild the war torn territory but did not give a clear answer. he was also asked about the war in ukraine and says he will help end it, but did not specify how he would do that. mr. trump's commitment to immigration reform, seeing swift action on day one that includes a cutoff for a resource used by thousands of migrants and asylum seekers. the cbp one mobile app was set up under the biden administration was a way to allow migrants to apply to enter the u.s. legally as asylum seekers. once it went into effect, it was only the only way for people to get an appointment to request asylum. about 280,000 people were logging into the app on a daily basis to secure an appointment. as of january 7th, customs and border protection says from january of 2023 to december of 2024, more than 936,000 people had scheduled appointments through that

service. well, as the president was being sworn in, south bay community leaders came together in san jose voicing the concern about the president's expected attack against immigrants, what they call it politician, immigration activists and law enforcement agencies said it's, quote, another resistance movement that included a promise from the county undersheriff to resist participation in many ice actions. their message there is no reason to fear, but also reason to be hopeful, vowing that santa clara county will protect immigrants. today, we call on our leaders to embrace policies that honor the inherent worth of every person, regardless of where they're born state government, the county government or city government. we are working together to support them, whether or not they are documented, we don't care. the group also reminded immigrant families that there is still a phone hotline set up as part of the county's rapid response network, which allows people to report ice actions, which the trump administration

say could begin in just a matter of days. meanwhile, mexico's president claudia sheinbaum, expressing her disagreement with president trump's immigration plan. sheinbaum vowing her administration will help migrants impacted ahead, will impact it. ahead of president trump's inauguration, president sheinbaum reiterated there is a possibilityget asylum, not just at the u.s. border in person, but from a distance in the southern part of the country or in other countries. a lot happening on this day. one president trump's agenda. have many people in the transgender community concerned. mr. trump signed an executive order creating a policy that would only allow the federal government to recognize two genders, male and female. many opponents say it feels like a personal attack on their identity and will lead to real harm for those who don't identify that way. nbc bay area's jodi hernandez spoke to a woman who's been a champion of the trans community. it's what i meant to do. it's literally the one place that i can let go completely and just express

myself with my body. dancer rochelle armijo, whose stage name is riri realness, says she's finally fully living as her authentic self. the 22 year old dancer from fairfield was born biologically male, but she says little ricky always knew how they looked on the outside, didn't match how they felt on the inside. i tnk about little ricky all the time because he had to go through so much in this small little town to just find himself and be who she is now. today, riri began transitioning to a female when she was 18, documenting it all on social media. it was so amazing to finally have these gender affirming surgeries done. i was like, why not include my transitional journey on social media as well? because i know there's so many kids in the bay that probably are struggling to express themselves. it will henceforth b be the official policy of the united states

government that there are only two genders, male and female. but as president trump takes office, riri is worried. she says his views on gender have many in the trans community terrified. among the executive orders the president announced today is one many believe could remove protections for the transgender community as it instructs federal agencies to classify people only as male or female on all government documents. so if i'm presenting fully feminine as a woman and my id says male, that could put my whole life at risk. riri says changing her gender on her ids was liberating, but she fears the progress the trans community has made is now at serious risk. she believes gender is a spectrum, and that president trump has it wrong. there's a whole spectrum of different types of life people that phony riri says. she will continue to

speak out and live her truth. she's encouraging others to do the same, insisting the transgender community will not return to the shadows. this is who i am 24/7. i don't just put the makeup and the hair on at nighttime. i live my life as a woman 24/7, and i just want to exist in solano county. jodi hernandez, nbc, bay area news. let's talk about some of the executive orders that have been issued now in the last several hours that mr. trump has signed. one of the big ones here has to do with tiktok. mr. trump will not enforce the law that bans the app for the next 75 days. the order does not overturn, though the supreme court decision, but it does give tiktok time to find a u.s. company to buy 80% stake or be shut down. well, it depends on the deal. i mean, i may not do the deal or i may do the deal. tiktok is worthless. worthless if i don't approve it. it has to close. i learned that from the people that own it. if it. if i

don't do the deal, it's worthless. worth nothing. he evenuggested in that oval office informal briefing, that briefing that maybe the u.s. government would partner with tiktok and bytedance. we will see. there's also a freeze on federal hiring, except for the military. no federal civilian position that is vacant at noon today may be filled, and no new positions may be created. also this evening, the president ordered all federal workers to return to full time in-person work. the president, also pulling out of the paris climate treaty. he's revoking 78 biden era actions, executive orders and presidential memoranda. president trump also signing orders to declaring a national energy emergency to fight inflation. he said he will end what he called the green new deal and the electric vehicle mandate. former president biden bid farewell to his staff in an address on the tarmac of joint base andrews in maryland. just minutes before leaving office,

mr. biden issued a set of sweeping preemptive pardons to members of his family. in a statement, mr. biden said my family has been subjected to unrelenting attacks and threats, motivated solely by a desire to hurt me. mr. biden also granted other preemptive pardons, including for doctor anthony fauci. some staff of the committee that investigated the january 6th attack and police officers who testified before it. during his farewell, mr. biden pledged to stay active in politics and encouraged his staff to do the same. we're leaving office, but we're not leaving the fight. you're smart, you're skilled, you're passionate, and the country needs you again. so the bidens are now california bound for a vacation in santa barbara county. former vice president harris is back in california tonight. also, she landed in los angeles just after 4:00 this evening. an all female air force crew flew the former vp from joint base andrews to los angeles. it is the first time an all female crew has operated a c 33 for the u.s. air force. miss

harris is set now to visit a local fire station to thank firefighters on the front lines in southern california's wildfire emergency. she also plans to volunteer with the world central kitchen to distribute food to the community. harris and former second gentleman doug emhoff will then head to their home in brentwood. so you might be wondering what is next for the oakland native. there have been previous reports speculating a possible run for california governor back in november after the election. a poll from the uc berkeley institute of governmental studies found that nearly half of california voters would be very or somewhat likely to support a harris bid for governor. the 2026 race is already crowded, with several well-known candidates setting their eyes on sacramento. analysts expect attorney general rob bonta and lieutenant governor ellen kulongoski's caroline marks to run. it will be california's first open gubernatorial race in eight years. let's get back to washington, dc. another live look now inside one of the balls. this is the liberty ball. all three of these inaugural balls are being held at the

not just the inauguration, but also the celebration of martin luther king jr. he was a changemaker, an activist fighting for the human rights of black americans. doctor king was also a prominent and prolific writer. this, from his 1963 book of sermons, strength to love. quote. darkness cannot drive out darkness. only light can do that. hate cannot drive out hate. only love can do that. and today, from assistance to radical resistance, many events to honor the life and legacy of doctor king in the east bay. from a day of service to a day of action, community members across oakland remember doctor king's legacy. several volunteer groups picking up shovels and trash bags and cleaning up the streets and planted trees across the town. at the same time, hundreds of people gathered at city hall and focused on reclaiming what organizers call the radical legacy of doctor king. it's so important that we

and do a day of service. just a lot of pride on the streets today. let's take you outside now on this monday evening. a live look from our emeryville camera as it looks into san francisco. so many emotions across the country today. a lot of positive emotions out there. yeah, and sunny blue skies for us. we did get in on some wind. all of that bay area wind is exiting. so now we're settling into another cold night ahead. even a frost advisory for totomorrow mning. we're going to talk about that. also, some unusual snow hitting the southeast. i'll have the map if you're doing any traveling, but let's start it off with tomorrow's forecast. we have this area of high pressure bringing the dry weather. we'd love to get a storm system in here, but with this sitting here, it's a big roadblock here for us in terms of getting any kind of big storms the next seven days. so this is going to set in some calm conditions and bring back some chilly weather. look at this. for tomorrow morning. we have frost advisories for the north bay, east bay, south bay, inland valleys, temperatures ranging 33 to 39 degrees. so make sure to bring those pets inside. let's
