bob, thank you. there are new allegations of drunkenness and bad behavior by president trump's pick to run the military. scott mcgrew says this time, the accusations come from pete hegseth, s former sister in law. good morning. mr. hegseth is married to his third wife, and it's the sister of his second wife, who is telling senators her former brother in law would often pass out at family events. in her sworn affidavit, she spoke of threatening and volatile conduct by hegseth against her sister, samantha hegseth, now nbc, spoke to samantha herself, who says there were no actual incidents of violence. pete hegseth denies all new allegations as he has previous allegations. when they divorced in 2021, they both signed a court document which said neither claimed to be victims of domestic abuse. it's hardly the first time people have made allegations against hegseth. his own mother
11:05 am
castigated him in a letter accusing him of mistreating women, but later said she withdrew the allegations. hegseth has said he will not drink if he is secretary of defense. that's not good enough for the top democrat on the senate armed services committee, who said this behavior would disqualify any service member from holding any leadership position in the military, much less being confirmed as the secretary of defense. the federal bureau of prisons continues to release january 6th. rioters after president trump's pardons. among them rachel powell, who in popular culture is known as the pink hat lady or ice ax lady, powell used an ice ax to break into the capitol, and was seen directing capitol attackers with a bullhorn. now she was not accused of attacking police officers, but there were many cases of police officers being attacked with batons and bear spray, bike racks, even flagpoles. the pardons and commutations that president trump issued don't sit well with
11:06 am
everyone on capitol hill. what i'm trying to do is figure out there are some commutations to me. i just can't agree. i'm about to file two bills that will increase the penalties up to and including the death penalty for the murder of a police officer and increasing the penalties and creating federal crimes for assaulting a police officer. that should give you everything you need to know about my position. look at it as it's it was surprising to me that it was a blanket. pardon? now i'm going through the details. i was here on january 6th. i saw the horror and the terror of these insurrectionists. what message does this send to law enforcement when some of these rioters brutally attacked policemen, policemen? and now they're getting a full commutation? i don't know what this says about rule of law. other news, president trump has placed all federal workers

of unhoused people in santa clara county is underway right now. some of those people surveyed actually got a chance to speak with san jose mayor himself. nbc bay area's kris sanchez hit the streets with them this morning. we were with san jose mayor matt mahan as he and dozens of other volunteers fanned out across the city and the county to count the number of people who are living on the streets, and to also ask them how they got there and what they need to move forward. empezar puede ser si pues yo digo primero un trabajo y digo y uno uno. bueno jagger la renta. manuel garcia, who has been unhoused since 1997, told mayor matt mahan and the other surveyors that to start over, he needs a job. he says he has no vices, but feels it's healthier for him to live outside than in a group shelter where he fears he could get sick or his few belongings could be stolen. hearing from unhoused residents
11:11 am
is so important that the city is paying about 100 of them, $150 to help volunteers and advocates do this year's point in time count. the mayor says that what the survey reveals will help the city tailor resources to move people indoors first and then on to permanent housing, job training and health resources. but to get those answers, there has to be trust. it does make it easier to make that connection and that relationship, because people understand and might have experienced what they're experiencing. so it brings a level of humility and understanding to really connect with someone. we need to invest in these solutions, expand safe, managed places where people can be, and we need to hold people accountable for coming indoors and taking advantage of them. but i believe in including everyone. i also think it's important and you'll see me push more on this in the budget process this year that we create pathways to skill building and employment. the point in time count is mandated every two years, and the last count
11:12 am
revealed that more than 9900 people were living unhoused in santa clara county, the most out of all nine bay area counties. as the mayor addressed volunteers before they hit the streets this morning, he said that the city will triple the number of safe spaces this year for people who are living on the streets. we do expect the results of this count in april or may in san jose. kris sanchez, nbc, bay area news. all right, chris, thank you. let's take a live look outside this time from walnut creek area. the sun is up, hopefully warming things up just a tad. it will be nice. it was definitely a frosty morning. some places are struggling a little bit to warm up. we see right now in through parts of petaluma 46 degrees. we started with the freeze warning up there but warmer weather is on the way. we'll get to it this afternoon. some 50s and 60s owing up and clear skies wherever you look around the bay area. we'll talk about what's ahead tonight and into the weekend. much cooler and

11:16 am
solano county, you will notice all of our neighboring cities are doing the same thing. they try to expand, try to expand, try to expand. so soon you already look at the map. you can't expand very far. well, opponents last night pleaded with suisun city leaders about a proposed expansion plan. leaders acknowledge floating the idea of a possible annexation involving expanded city limits that may, in theory, be rolled into the hotly debated california forever plan. but right now, they call the entire idea pure pure conjecture, one way or not. well, supporters argue that expansion could add much needed revenues. now, last summer, california forever organizers, they dropped their fall ballot measure. but there's talk that it may be revived for the midterm elections. opponents raised big concerns over the planned city's close proximity to the travis air force base, and the latest speculation this week prompted fairfield's mayor to post her concerns about it on social media. again, no

decisions were made last night during that meeting. happening tonight, santa rosa is considering a new proposal to send drones to emergency scenes before first responders arrive. the drones would fly straight from the police station to an emergency live streaming information to first responders. they would be there minutes before responders arrive and give critical details. we spoke to santa rosa's police chief this morning on today in the bay. whether it be for structure fires, whether it be for missing persons, whether it be for wildfires in our community doing damage assessments, perhaps after earthquake or other natural disasters. so it really is more multi-purpose than just crime. certainly, though, i believe it's going to have an impact on reducing crime. but the chief says the program won't be cheap and the city is trying to fix a budget deficit. you can learn more tonight. the department is having a public meeting to detail the program. it starts at 6 p.m. at the utilities field operations building on stony point road.

all right, well, you know what? get ready to pay more to stream your favorite shows. netflix. raising the cost of its higher streaming plans, including its most basic viewing option. nbc bay area's ginger conejero saab explains how much it will actually cost you for watching new episodes. netflix subscribers can expect anywhere from $1 of a price hike to 250, depending on your plan. netflix made this announcement yesterday as it reported its fourth quarter earnings, which exceeded expectations and forecast. so let's break this down for you, the subscriber. the standard plan without ads, which is now at 15.49, will go up to 50 to $17.99. the cheaper ad supported plan, now at 6.99, goes up $1 to 7.99, and its premium plan will increase $2 from 22.99 to 24.99. this follows recent price increases in international markets, and netflix says it also plans to raise most of its membership plans in canada,
11:19 am
portugal and argentina. the company is not alone in raising its prices. consumers have faced a series of hikes across major streaming services, including netflix competitors. they're adding all of this live programing. they think that's one of the things that's really driving it, and i think you're going to see more of that. they even had a christmas football game, right? so they had an nfl event. so to pay for all of that live programing they're going to have us pay a little more. netflix has also been cracking down on password sharing subscribers, well aware that they have the option to add extra members to their accounts. but the price of that two will go up that currently sits at 7.99 for ad supported plans that will go up a dollar, but your extra members won't see a price change. now, all of this seems to be paying off for netflix. that reported, it added a record 19 million paid memberships in the fourth quarter. they now surpass 300 million subscribers. in san francisco, ginger conejero saab, nbc bay area news. thanks, ginger. well,

happening now take a look at this. the gulf coast really seeing se historic snowfall. new orleans public schools are closed today and tomorrow due to the record amount of snow. parts of louisiana seeing more than ten inches of snow. bourbon street even blanketed with all that fresh powder. the snowstorm caused widespread disruptions to transportation and daily routines. however, roads became impassable. flights were delayed or canceled, and businesses were closed. looks like a lot of people are having fun, but it was a mess for a lot of people as well. you got to think about this. some of those places in the far south don't have snow plows like are not used to this kind of weather. so it's chaos. and yet we have to wait until the snow melts on its own naturally. so aside from dealing with the snow, now they're dealing with that cold air settling in on top of that fresh snow pack. so let's take a look at our national highs for today. be lucky that we are out here. because those highs down there in the south, we're looking at 36 in new orleans, 24 in

chicago. and those teens continue up there into parts of north dakota here on the west coast, much more nicer upper 60s and 70s throughout the state with sunshine and every direction you look as you make those lunchtime plans and into the afternoon should be a good one to get that walk in here. we're looking at places in our further valleys. 73 in santa rosa, 71 in gilroy. that's a nice day to treat after dealing with the cold morning everywhere in the inner bay. also looking at some mid to upper 60s from palo alto over on into dublin, you can expect much of the same for our thursday plan. so soak up all of that sunshine and just feel the sun on your skin because there are some changes ahead. yes, we go on into talking about the weekend making those plans already, not only here, but if you're traveling throughout parts of the state, get ready for some colder weather and also the chance of seeing some rain on that windshield on saturday. i think it will miss most of us here in the bay area, but we could get
11:22 am
some fresh powder up there in the sierra. the storm will head further south where it could help southern california, of course, suppress those flames and get a handle on the fire situation down there. so we paint this maybe some trace amounts there through parts of sacramento, san jose. that model has busted out there. but going down further on into bakersfield and los angeles, that's where we could see maybe a third of an inch of rain, which is about double the amount that they've started with this rainy season. so it's been just parched down there. the sierra, while it won't be much, maybe 1 to 2in of some fresh powder up there that will be nice for the skiers and snowboarders and locals that like to see that as on this wintry day. so we'll watch that as we get closer to that event. enjoy the nice and mild afternoons here. wednesday and thursday. we drop those temperatures going on into friday and the weekend with the chance of rain there on saturday. san francisco and along the peninsula. i think it calls for a good beach day today and tomorrow. we'll watch it turn breezier though by the weekend. back to you. all right.

southern california wildfires are getting help from law enforcement leaders on the peninsula. the san mateo county deputy sheriffs association and the organization of sheriffs sergeants pooled donations last week, and that money was used to buy lunch for deputies in los angeles as a sign of solidarity. the restaurant fat sal's, managed to deliver 200 sandwiches to first responders. we actually spoke with the peninsula law enforcement organizations responsible for the help the firefighters get all the praise and the glory. but what people forget is that, you know, our brothers and sisters in law enforcement are down there also putting in long hours also on the front lines, you know, evacuating, making sure looters are not coming in. so they're up there as well, and we don't want them to be forgotten about. for us, it was a no brainer. we wanted to help out our brothers and sisters in blue down the southern southern california. both say in similar
