colombia say they will accept deported migrants after initially turning away two u.s. military flights, touching off tariff threats from the trump administration, colombia briefly threatened its own tariffs in response, but now is promising dignified conditions for deportees. as immigration enforcement grows across the country, with other law enforcement agencies joining ice in arresting undocumented migrants. we immediately halted all illegal entry and began sending every border trespasser and violator back to the places from which they came. the trump administration is declaring victory in a showdown over deporting colombian migrants back to their home country. the white house press secretary overnight writing, quote, the government of colombia has agreed to all of president trump's terms, including the unrestricted acceptance of all illegal aliens from colombia. that after colombia's president

turned away two u.s. military deportation flights, noting on social media, quote, a migrant is not a criminal and should be treated with the dignity a human being deserves. that prompted president trump to threaten a 25% tariff on all colombian goods coming into the u.s, and to revoke the u.s. visas of colombian government officials. the trump administration's border czar backing the move. we got a strong presence to demand action. if they don't act, then there will be consequences. immigrant communities feeling the consequences of stepped up enforcement. in phoenix, one advocacy group launched a hotline to report and alert people of any ice raids happening in the area. a lot of uncertainty, right? like what is next? what's going to happen? i will remain silent. in chicago, a workshop teaching migrants their civil rights as communities in the u.s. and overseas react to a swiftly changing picture on immigration.

as the release of the next round of hostages is set for this thursday. now, today is holocaust remembrance day, and with it comes a reminder for synagogues and jewish community to stay vigilant amid the rise in anti-semitism. now that warning comes from the community secret security service. this is a national nonprofit organization which helps safeguard jewish organizations by offering free resources, which include security training and threat detection and deterrence. people are inspired to protect themselves, to defend themselves, and also empower their own communities and congregations. that is the most important thing you can do is protecting yourself. and also one of the theses of our work is that community members know their community best. they are best equipped to notice when something is out of place, but also, most importantly, we're most likely to intervene when there is a chance of an attack. a report last year by the anti-defamation league found
5:08 am
anti-semitic incidents and threats in the u.s. increased by more than 200%. this is after the october 7th attacks against israel. this morning, elon musk is facing growing criticism over a virtual appearance made at an event for germany's far right party. it comes a week after he made a questionable gesture, which some have linked to a nazi salute. today in the bay's bob redell joins us live. he's following more this morning. good morning bob. good morning to you, laura. elon musk, who's not only the ceo of tesla, but also the world's richest man, appeared virtually at a campaign event in germany, as you mentioned this weekend. this was for the far right party known as the afd in germany, wherere he said, it's okay to be proud to be german, but then made this apparent reference to germany's history. germany's history with the nazi party. take a listen. i think there's like, frankly, too much of a of a focus on on past guilt. and we need to move beyond that. people, you know, children should not be guilty of
5:09 am
the sins of their parents. and the chair of yad vashem, israel's memorial to holocaust victims, called musk's comment, quote, an insult to the victims of nazism and a clear danger to the democratic future of germany. at an inauguration event last week, musk made this gesture with his arm that some have interpreted as a nazi salute. in response to that criticism, musk posted online a series of nazi related puns. musk says he was moving his hand from his heart to the audience. the anti-defamation league initially appeared to defend musk by saying he made an awkward gesture and not a nazi salute, but later called out his series of nazi jokes, saying they only served to minimize the evil and inhumanity of nazi crimes. president trump has tapped musk to be an advisor on how to make the government more efficient. nbc news has reached out to the white house and musk for comment. after this

weekend's virtual appearance at that far right event in germany, but did not hear back. reporting live. bob redell today in the bay. all right. a lot to follow there. thank you, bob, for the latest. well, back here in the bay area, classes are canceled today for students attending solano whitman leadership academy in vallejo. this is because of a copper theft. happened sometime after school. got out on friday. staff hosting a basketball competition over the weekend. discovered it. as a result of that theft, it disconnected all electricity on campus. the district says the school will likely stay closed for at least a week for repairs. also expressing sadness that this has happened again to one of its schools. it is 510 on your monday morning. i almost said friday. i guess that was wishful thinking for a moment. you know what? it is cold though. everywhere. it's really cold. but it's true. and that was not san jose. we're just all mixed up on this monday morning. but we're getting started with some temperatures that will
5:11 am
definitely have you shivering and wanting to layer up. with our temperatures now in the mid 30s across walnut creek. a lot of our inland areas, even san francisco, is getting a cold start at 40 degrees, but it will be a mild day in san jose, going from mid 30s to low 60s for the afternoon and a lot of sunshine. we're going to see low 60s as well across much of the bay area. and mike, you are tracking a crash. what's going on. got excited to get in front of here because we do have a reopening of 880 over here in the south bay. everything around the east bay, where we typically see the first start, has not yet infected those sensors. over here. we've had this crash southbound 880 had all lanes blocked for a few minutes, reopened now only one lane blocked at dixon landing road there, slowing south of mission clearing. by the time we get to our camera, just past that, you see how light the traffic flow is, but traffic is flowing again southbound through nimitz, through fremont, and down into the south bay without any. oh, there is one issue in san jose. we'll talk about that. coming up
5:12 am
back to you. thanks, mike. tackling the global clean water crisis. coming up next on today in the bay. the local student who is getting recognized in the kelly clarkson show for her incredible work. plus, panic! at the disco. if the disco is wall street real concern over this new ai coming out of china. take a look at these numbers, particularly the nasdaq. look at that down expected to be down almost 800 points. much more news ahead. you're wat

5:15 am
514. we are taking a live look outside in san rafael. we are seeing a clear sky across the bay area. not too many issues with fog, but we are right now just above freezing here and we will have a cold start, but a sunny day and a gradual warm up. we're looking forward to some rain. we'll talk about that coming up in a few minutes. and these headlights are heading south on 680 toward the 24 interchange there in walnut creek. see a good number of cars. no surprises. you're at speed. starting to build through contra costa county. we'll see where those sensors are changing. coming up. well good morning. very happy monday to you. though i'm not sure how happy wall street is going to be. investors are absolutely freaked out by a new chinese ai called deep seek. here's the problem. it's good. it's really good. and here's the other problem. the chinese company behind it made it without a lot of access to the latest american
5:16 am
made chips made by nvidia. nvidia sits on both the nasdaq and the dow index, and it's a boat. anchor this morning the chinese made this ai called deep seek. that's not a whole lot different functionally from any other ai you may have used, but its test scores are very, very high, the company said. our reports say the company had stockpiled thousands of nvidia gpus ahead of the restrictions set by then president joe biden back in the fall of 2022. washington started restricting foreign access to advanced american chips with the goal of preventing the chinese from jumping ahead like they may have just done with deep seek. meantime, back here at home, the american company openai has released a new update to its chatgpt called operator, that will perform tasks in your name. for instance, you could tell it to buy the cheapest tickets for
5:17 am
cleveland this weekend, or book a table for two at whatever it thinks is the best italian restaurant in north beach. operator for now, only available to people who pay the highest subscription rate for chatgpt. you may have noticed changes at starbucks this morning. free refills for brewed coffee, maybe ceramic mugs if you're staying in the store, a new code of conduct takes effect today. it's mostly just you have to be a customer to be in the store. the fed starts its two day interest rate meeting tomororrow with the decision on wednesday. all bets are the fed will keep interest rates where they are. economists are worried about coming inflation due to the immigrant sweep and new tariffs. and it's boulder day. the internet anniversary of this post made on twitter, in which the san joaquin sheriff's department in colorado posted a large boulder the size or san miguel sheriff's department, a large boulder the size of a small boulder had
5:18 am
blocked the highway. the person who wrote it said she meant to say small car. she didn't, and it became one of the most famous social posts ever. so it's a large boulder the size of a small boulder. and the anniversary. happy anniversary. exactly. thanks, scott. you bet. 517 right now. later this afternoon, a 14 year old south bay student will make a special appearance on the kelly clarkson show for her incredible new achievement as she works to help tackle the global water crisis. take a look. tell us more about the project and how you came up with it. yeah, so last year's summer i learned that 2 billion people globally don't have access to clean drinking water, and that actually causes more deaths than the fatalities of natural disasters and conflicts combined. and i started experimenting in my own kitchen with whatever i had. and i developed a filter that is low cost and uses natural materials and can actually filter out lots of the e.coli, bacteria and
5:19 am
other impurities in the water. well, make sure you tune in to the kelly clarkson show this afternoon to learn more about tina jin, how she developed this water filter. it's coming up at 3:00 this afternoon right here on nbc bay area. the former san francisco home of late actor robin williams has been sold after spending years on the market. initially listed at the end of 2023 for $25 million. well, it sold for $18 million. williamsms was a longtime bay aa resident. he actually purchased the home and renovated it in the seacliff neighborhood back in the 90s. williams lived there off and on with his children for many years. it has six bedrooms and features bay windows overlooking the golden gate bridge. it's also said to have secret rooms and passageways that he designed for his kids. all right. that's a beautiful home. always the fun. yeah. kari. great job for getting that price down. yeah, yeah. you're right. party this weekend. secret passages. and people are
5:20 am
going to show up and be like. i thought kari hall lived here. yeah. shouldn't that be one of those passages? yes. all right, well, let's get started this morning. we have to crank up t e heater inside the house today, as well as watching rain for southern california. let me show you this system that's been bringing not only some much needed rain, but unfortunately, the threat of some mudslides as we get those heavier downpours happeng in some of the burn scar areas. we're also seeing some snow in the upper elevations, but overall, watching that system that is moving away. and we're also feeling that cold air settling into the bay area. so this freeze watch in effect until 9:00. and we're seeing across the bay area temperatures near or even below freezing in some spots. we are down now to 29 degrees in danville. and in livermore it is 30 degrees. so you may even have frost on the windshield or on some of those elevated surfaces as you're heading out and getting this monday started. but then look at where we're headed for today, a high of 64 in santa rosa, as
5:21 am
well as ukiah and 60 in san francisco and oakland and 62 in concord, will be in the upper 50s and low 60s for much of the south bay. and going to see this weather repeat for the next few days with cold morning sunshine and some mild afternoons at least through wednesday. but then looking ahead, we will eventually get some rain coming back to the bay area. it moves in on friday and continues kind of off and on throughout the weekend. we're expecting some scattered showers. a lot of it lifting to the north between sunday and monday, and during that time that we will see those scattered showers. the north bay will have the highest rainfall totals, with the potential of 1 to 2in of rainfall, maybe even higher, farther to the north. but most of the bay area is going to get some very light amounts of rainfall for the weekend, and our temperatures throughout the week hold steady with highs in the low 60s and mornings in the 30s. and mike, you're looking out for some changes. yes. so we're watching the volume on the bay bridge.
5:22 am
and right now it looks like we're picking up the volume a little bit, but holding steady with those speeds and of course, no metering lights, no backup. it's too early for that. up until scott finished his report about that boulder tweet hadn't seen any slowing. so apparently out of vallejo, folks waited for scott's report and then they hit the road. scott's very big in vallejo and a smooth, easy drive right now. no major problems. highway four showing an easy at speed drive all the way from antioch and through concord 680 corridor moves nicely down out of walnut creek all the way in through pleasanton. sunol starting to pick up that volume just a tad bit there. and the south bay. we have only this southbound 880 at dixon landing road. still have a crash and a distraction there, just as you're coming into milpitas. back to you. don't get distracted. thanks, mike. next here on today in the bay nbc bay area responds. uncle sam says it's tax time. so when can you file and how long will refunds take this year? i'm consumer take this year? i'm consumer

says president trump's promise
5:30 am
of deportation gets underway. ahead, the way san jose is responding to the latest sighting. and where do those migrants go? president trump goes eye to eye with the president of colombia, and the president of colombia backs down. and here is a live look outside this morning in san francisco. meteorologist kari hall tracking our forecast as we start this new week. this is today in the bay. a new week. new week. yeah. good morning to you all. i'm marcus washington. happy monday morning i'm laura garcia. let's look at the forecast. it is a chilly start. hard to get out of bed this morning. yeah, i'm sure it is. but we are going to have to get it done because we are going to have a nice day ahead. lots of sunshine and temperatures will eventually warm up. we're right now at 28 degrees in danville, and it is 30 in livermore. 31 in san martin. so you can see those temperatures in some of our
5:31 am
inland valleys are below freezing. and as we take a look at santa rosa, it's 39 now and will stay in the 30s through 8:00 and then start to head toward the upper 50s by noon, eventually reaching 64 degrees. that's one of our warmer spots, as we are going to see a nice mild day ahead. so i'll be tracking that and we'll talk about the rest of the week coming up in a few minutes. perfect. we'll check back with you. a battle of wills between donald trump the president of colombia is over this morning. and scott mcgrew columbia now backing down. well, it would certainly appear so. good morning. the argument was over whether colombia would allow american military planes carrying migrants to land in colombia. president trump threatened an immediate 25% and then 50% tariff on colombian exports, like coffe if they didn't. and the colombian president appears to have backed down. whole thing was rather seat of the pants. the white house issuing an announcement that just repeats a truth social
5:32 am
post. and no, that is not how you spell colombia when you're referring to the country in south america. the colombian president, for at least a while stood up to america. gustavo petro said he would allow chartered passenger flights to land because those protected the dignity of migrants. he also shrugged when trump called him a socialist, saying i am a socialist. over the weekend, late at night, president trump fired at least 18 inspectors general, the people in charge of looking for fraud, waste and abuse, firing them without giving congress 30 days notice is illegal. that's a law set after ronald reagan tried much the same thing. i know the allegation has been made that that the president is required to give congress 30 days notice, and he did not. but president trump has some very, very, very intelligent lawyers around them. and i'm sure they have a
5:33 am
counterargument to that. and i want to hear i want to hear it before before i weigh in on it. the american people, if we don't have good and independent inspector generals, are going to see the swamp refill, they're going to see rampant waste fraud. they're going to see corruption. it may be the president's goal here when he's got a meme coin that's making him billions, is to remove anyone that's going to call the public attention to his malfeasance. we're waiting for the white house daily press brief to get clarification of something president trump said during the press gaggle on air force one. he said he thought palestinians should be removed from the west bank and gaza cleaned out, in his words, which would be a radical shift in american policy towards the israeli-palestine issue. america has long supported a two state solution. president trump said, quote, we're talking about a million and a half people, and we could just clean out the whole thing, suggesting the palestinians who have lived in what they consider palestine for
5:34 am
thousands of years moved to egypt or jordan. back here at home, immigrant sweeps continue. keep in mind, ice says these are people accused by the u.s. government of serious crimes. colorado on the left. atlanta in your middle. chicago on the right. our kris sanchez has more on that in just like a minute away. president trump's been president for a week as of today, but it was he who set the timeline on many of his goals. the war in ukraine was supposed to be over by now. grocery prices were supposed to have started to fall, but the price of eggs, which has nothing to do with presidents or their policies, are up nearly 40%. it's all bird flu. but candidate trump constantly hammered at the biden administration over eggs. prices during the campaign promised lower grocery prices. here's the vice president on cbs's face the nation. when do consumers actually get to touch and feel a difference in their lives? well, margaret, how does bacon get to the grocerytore? it comes on trucks that are fueled by diesel fuel. if the
5:35 am
diesel is way too expensive, the bacon is going to become more expensive. how do we grow the bacon? our farmers need energy to produce it, so if we lower energy prices, we are going to see lower prices for consumers. and that is what we're trying to fight for. and of course, we continue to watch wall street, the nasdaq futures down 3.5%, all due to a shock to american companies from the chinese. they seem to have built an advanced ai despite restrictions on the export of chips. we'll talk more about it in our business segment that comes up in the 6:00 hour. laura, thank you very much, scott. we're also following in san jose. some families and lawmakers are asking what is next after confirmed immigration and customs enfororcement action happened on the east side of the city. that action appeared to be targeted and part of a plan to arrest as many as 1500 people a day nationwide. today in the bay's kris sanchez joining us now from the newsroom with more on that kris. well, good morning to marcus and laura. it was a weekend of fear and uncertainty as immigration raids went from
5:36 am
rumor to reality in san josose. d while this action appears to be targeted, one san jose city councilman said it spread panic in the community. this video shows some of the ice, immigrations and customs enforcement agents who were in east san jose this weekend. this is the tropicana shopping center at story and king. agents were also seen at a home on king road. people also reported seeing agents on their ring cameras knocking on people's doors. santa clara county's rapid response network is a community project aimed at protecting immigrant communities against deportation threats, and they confirmed that the agents were, in fact, legitimate. i saw three unmarked cars and agents in bulletproof vests, so i pulled over and parked safely and then approached the agents. and not only did their police, their vests say police, they also some of them said federal agents, some of them had the ice badge on their shoulders. now,
5:37 am
san jose mayor matt mahan confirmed as well, telling us, quote, our police department was notified today that ice is carrying out an operation in san jose today. yesterday, sjpd does not assist with or participate in these operations in any way. now, trump's border czar said that people convicted of serious offenses like murder and sex crimes were the targets here. but he also said that if people with no criminal convictions were present during the raids, they would be arrested too. ice is lodging detainers that is requesting local law enforcement hold noncitizens that they have probable cause to believe is deportable. now, ice confirms that on sunday, 956 people were arrested, 554 detainers lodged. that is, people held. and on saturday, 286 people arrested, 421 detainers lodged. and on friday, nearly 600 people were arrested and 449 detainers lodged. a lot of communities in california have rapid response
5:38 am
networks, a hotlines for people to report ice activity and request help in their communities. this is the information for the one in santa clara county. now. san jose unified also has sent out a statement to the school community saying that ice agents would not be allowed in their schools. laura. all right. a lot to follow there. thank you very much. kris. it is 537 right now. over the weekend, family members of alexis gabe marked three years since the 23 year old disappeared in oakland. police believe she was killed by her ex-boyfriend. family and community members marked the day by gathering for a day of kindness in oakland, calling on everyone to do small acts of compassion in alexis's honor. police believe alexis was murdered by her ex-boyfriend, michelle curtis jones. he was shot and killed when officers tried to arrest him near seattle in june of 2022. since then, parts of alexis remains have been found in remote amador county. some of the people at sunday's memorial were involved with the search. we're thankful
5:39 am
for everybody that that the community is still after three years, they still they still supporting us. they never left us. the gabe family say they are disappointed that the contra costa county district attorney, diana becton, did not pursue charges against the mother of alexis ex-boyfriend. they believe she should have been charged for aiding and abetting after the fact. now, the gabe say they will join on calling for the da's office to recall the da. we reached out to the da's office for comment. we are waiting to hear back. this morning, there's growing concern about potential mudslides following the devastating wildfires there in southern california. wet weather is expected to stick a around throh tomorrow. los angeles county public works urging neighbors living in those areas impacted by the recent wildfires to prepare for a potential mudslides and debris fallout. people have been picking up sandbags to help protect their
5:40 am
properties. the mayor of los angeles has issued an emergency order, which will allow crews to clear and remove vegetation, reinforce roads and clear debris. new video shows snow falling on i-5 through the grapevine. caltrans sharing this video last night while the snow on the roads slowing down traffic. snowy weather prompted the closure for both both northbound and southbound lanes at fort tejon, caltrans is reminding drivers to certainly take it slow through that area. meteorologist kari hall has been tracking the conditions in southern california this morning. boy, that area is seeing a lot of changes. yes, and we know that we need the rain and the snow, but it is coming at a time where the ground is still very unstable. and we were talking about i-5. you can't just take it slow because the roads are closed there at that stretch where we are seeing the waves of snow coming down, as well as some rain that's been off and o in that area of frazier park. so we're seeing that happening there while the bay area is dry
5:41 am
and we have some cold temperatures to start out, we are going to see sunshine throughout the day and temperatures in the low 40s this morning in san francisco, but headed for the upper 50s may briefly touch 60 degrees, but overall it will be a cool day with lots of sunshine and a light wind. and across the bay area we'll see highs in the lower 60s. mike, you have a look at what's going on today. yeah, starting at the bay bridge toll plaza. right now, we have a backup starting to form. the metering lights are not registered on in the chp log, but we see the backup forming and there's no problem on the span. i'm going to say they may have turned those metering lights on in the last couple of minutes, because that would be the right timing over there. highway 37 sees a little more slowing highway 4 see some brake taps. same thing for 242. we typically see that as contra costa county starts to build through that portion. still fine through walnut creek and down toward the dublin interchange here, south 880. we had a lot of activity, a lot of clearing, but there's still a little bit of brake tap at dixon landing road. i think the tow truck has

finally arrived to take that one crash car from the scene. no major issues, but watch that. if you're traveling south of fremont into milpitas, north 101 starts with the first bit of slowing. this indeed is the flooding icon. the alameda on ramp to south 880 had some standing water, either a busted pump or a busted sprinkler. maybe both happen at the alameda. sometimes we'll follow that. and of course, there's a sharks game tonight for downtown. back to you. thank you very much, mike. remembering those lost in the holocaust. coming up here on today in the bay, a look at the summer commemorations set today and the message from survivors. a brewing legal battle between sonoma state student athletes and the university after sonoma state announced it's cutting its entire athletics program. we'll tell you more about a new case that's set to be filed today. and super bowl 59, set after the chiefs win a thriller against buffalo. coming up next on today in the bay. why the eagles are now the only team standing in

5:46 am
about that coming up in a few minutes. and we're showing more slowing of 101. but my concern is actually getting on to southbound 880. i talked about the standing water at the alameda onramp. that onramp is currently closed. you can use bascom or coleman to the south or north of that interchange to get on to south 880. that standing water likely a busted sprinkler, but right now it just means you can't use it for the onramp to the nimitz. thank you, kari and mike. it is 5:45 right now. today, the world marks 80 years since the liberation of auschwitz. nazi germany's extermination camp in occupied poland. at least 1 million people, mostly jews, were murdered there as today in the bay j. gray reports from auschwitz. the camp became a symbol of the holocaust. there were over a million jewish people killed in auschwitz alone. so this is kind of a sacred ground. the biggest burial of jews in the world. michael bornstein somehow escaped the gas chambers, the firing squads. inside this death
5:47 am
camp. you can see him here. a four year old prisoner of auschwitz. now, 80 years later, bornstein returns not by force, but by choice. it's also important for me to show the world, you know, the bigotry and the hatred that went on in auschwitz. around 50 survivors have gathered here, eight decades after their liberation, telling their story. and it's a way that people never forget what happened. and in a few years, there'll be no survivors. and as their voices begin to fade, the work inside this restricted area of the camp where cameras are rarely allowed, becomes even more crucial. conservationists and scientists inside this high tech lab, preserving the history here, thousands of items cataloged, stored in climate controlled rooms. still, with all of this work, tradition is extremely, extremely important to me. and with the words of
5:48 am
survivors, the story of auschwitz will never really be complete because there is this darkness that will never be told, because most of the people who were deported to auschwitz did not survive this place. they were murdered. most of them never became prisoners of the concentration camp. they were murdered immediately after arrival in gas chambers. this place, a memorial and museum dedicated to their memory. jay gray, nbc news, auschwitz. one should never forget. well, coverage on today's somber remembrance continues this morning on today in the bay. ahead. in the next hour, we'll show you the events taking place in san francisco to help bring the community together. 548 for you this morning, the fight to save sonoma state's athletic programs continues with a lawsuit which could find its way to federal court. this after the school announced it is cutting the university's entire sports program. today in the bay ginger conejero saab live for us this morning. okay, so, ginger, i
5:49 am
would imagine many of those students as well as staff, they say they're still in shock here. not surprised. not surprising. marcus. that's right. good morning to you. and it's not because sonoma state announced that it's cutting its entire athletics program, but because of how and when they found out, just like the men's head soccer coach at sonoma state, marcus zimmer. he has been part of the program for almost 40 years now, three years as a seawolves player and 36 years as a coach. now, he says he couldn't believe the email he was reading last week telling him that he needs to find a new job in june. i broke down. i mean, it's just super emotional. i you don't know how hard i've worked for this program. and just to find out from a student that i'm, you know, i'm done. it was pretty heart wrenching. zimmer is not the only one stunned by the announcement. coaches and student athletes say they feel like pawns after learning of sonoma state's move. two days after students paid tuition,
5:50 am
housing and other fees at the university,, student athletes ae looking to take action in a civil rights lawsuit that could be filed in federal court here in san francisco as early as today. lawyers for the student athletes claim meeting and transparency laws were violated when decisions to make the cuts were made and voted on. now they will try to get the court to stop those cuts immediately. sonoma state has not responded to requests for comment at this time, but they have said that they will save $2 million annually in cutting their sports program. the university looks like it's become an unexpected opponent for these student athletes, marcus, and it looks like they're going to face off face off in court in san francisco, ginger conejero saab today in the bay. we will be following. ginger. thank you. professional soccer player and south bay native naomi girma making history as the first million dollar player in women's soccer. she announced she's moving from the san diego wave
5:51 am
to the english team chelsea. she's reportedly signed with the premier league team for $1.1 million. that surpasses the world record of 70 $788,000 for bay fc paid to sign racheal kundananji last year. gorman played for team usa, won a gold medal at the paris olympics. now she's bringing home a little more than gold. well, the world's largest major soccer event will be bigger than ever when it starts exactly 500 days from now, we are celebrating the 2026 world cup, which the u.s, mexico and canada will host. levi's stadium will host a total of six games. in all, 104 games will be played at 16 venues. in our next hour, we're going to get a lay of the land with telemundo 48 s carlos eustis as he joins us on set. telemundo will be airing all spanish language telecasts. lots of goals trending this morning. the super bowl is now set, and the kansas city chiefs have a date
5:52 am
with history. now the question is, will philadelphia eagles swoop in to end that dream in the afc championship? the chiefs yesterday beat buffalo to clinch their third straight trip to the super bowl, and their sixth trip in seven years. this game was a thriller there. the chiefs kicked a late field goal there to break that 2929 tie, a fourth down heavy by josh allen came up just short and the chiefs win the game 3229. in the nfc championship, philadelphia eagles manhandled upstate upstart i should say washington commanders. this is on the eagles first offensive play. and barkley there ran the long touchdown. the eagles would score a postseason record tying seven rushing touchdowns as they beat the commanders 5523. so here's what you have right now. 13 days from now in new orleans, the chiefs will play the eagles in super bowl 59. now if the
5:53 am
chiefs win, they could be the first team to ever win three straight super bowls. we will see. but will the philadelphia eagles fly eagle fly. i don't know. see that christmas colors are green. i'm bringing that back. somebody's going to t a gift. who will it be. i don't know. certainly feels like winter out there this morning. yeah, it is cold. we actually have a freeze warning in effect for the santa clara valley. and we are going to start out with temperatures near or below freezing. and we're seeing a frost advisory for much of the rest of the bay area, excluding the immediate coastline. we're at 39 in san jose and 36 in palo alto and walnut creek, 35. we have seen some of those valleys dipping below freezing. and then this is where we're headed for today, with a high of 60 degrees in san francisco and oakland and 60 in dublin, as well as 60 in san jose and low 60s for the north bay. tomorrow is basically a repeat of today. cold start,
5:54 am
sunshine, mild afternoon where we've seen those temperatures a little bit above what's normal for this time of year? we're dry all week, all the way up till friday, with the approach of this next storm system that looks to linger for a little bit with some scattered showers. won't be a heavy rain, but we are seeing the north bay, the target for that heaviest rain that we'll see coming in this weekend. so looking at our long range rainfall estimates, showing these dark pink shadings where we could see about 2 to 3in of rainfall for coastal sonoma county on northward, for spots like san rafael, that yellow color that's about a half to three quarters of an inch of rainfall and much less rainfall, maybe a few hundredths of an inch of rain south of the golden gate bridge this weekend. and for the sierra, we are going to get some more much needed snow. the possibility of about 4 to 13in of snow for kingvale. that's where we'll see the most in those upper elevations of the sierra. so as this system comes in, temperatures hold steady.
5:55 am
we're looking at mostly our mornings in the 30s. highs in the low 60s, and a mix of sun and clouds throughout the week. and san francisco will see highs in the upper 50s continuing even as the rain begins this weekend. and mike, it's mondayy seems lie it's still a smooth commute. it is a smooth commute, but it's getting to be a more popular commute at the bay bridge toll plaza right on schedule. we have lanes filled into the end of the parking lot and coming off the 880 overcrossing, you see that building those lanes all the way off to the right. now we see more traffic coming down the east shore freeway. typical. that's seen at the bay bridge toll plaza as well. highway 37 holding steady. same thing for highway four. concord. pleasant hill getting more congested. but walnut creek, the interchange and 24 all the way through the caldecott just fine. 680 coming down in toward alameda county. no major problems out of contra costa county. there is a build on vasco, right on schedule and no major issues for 680 down through fremont and sunol. there is some slowing typical for hayward south. 880 will expect that san mateo bridge to get more congestion, but so far the
5:56 am
sensors are green. there we have the reminder for the south bay, the on ramp to southbound 880 at the alameda is blocked right now because of flooding that happened overnight. it sounds like a busted sprinkler or something like that over in the area. we know that the bascom to the south and coleman to the north are your options to get on to southbound 880, which is counter commute. your northbound commute kicks in here for 101 on your first burst. back to you. all right. thanks, mike. happening now, embattled former san francisco school district superintendent matt wayne is being named an interim superintendent for the antioch unified school district. according to the school board, trustees are expected to review and approve wayne's contract wednesday. wayne resigned from sf unified in october. this is under pressure from parents, students and staff. they were upset about his proposal to close or merge 11 schools. those closures have since been put on hold. a boat carrying suspected migrants capsizes right on the southern california coast. ahead at 6:00. new video showing the
