hit hard by those devastating wildfires. mr. roker has the details on that in a bit. also, the first major crisis of the ceasefire between israel and hamas is easing now after a disagreement over which israeli hostages were released. meantime, there are new questions over when the first american hostages will be freed. we start with new fallout from president trump's crackdown on illegal immigration. major cities across the country seeing a dramatic rise in the arrests of undocumented migrants. >> and the u.s. and colombia pulled back from the brink of a trade war. colombia now agreeing to u.s. terms after initially denying entry to two military deportation flights. we have complete coverage. we start with gabe gutierrez in chicago. one these roundups took place there over the weekend. hi, gabe, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. i.c.e. agents are expected to be out in full force again today with other federal law enforcement agencies helping

with the roundups, too. and now the trump administration sending a message to the world, threatening another close u.s. ally with tariffs. this morning president trump's crackdown on illegal immigration is ramping up in cities nationwide, including los angeles, denver and chicago. >> we immediately halted all illegal entry and began sending every border trespasser and violator back to the places from which they came. >> reporter: his mass deportation plan a standoff, colombia, particularly a close u.s. ally turning away two american military aircraft with deportees. saying a migrant is not a criminal and should be treated with the dignity a human being deserves. trump threatening colombia with a 25% tariff on all colombian goods coming to the u.s. and demanding the u.s. visas of colombian government officials be revoked.

colombia's leader then attacking trump online saying, you will never dominate you. later reverses course, agreeing to all of the president trump's terms, including the unrestricted acceptance of migrants. >> i think we have a strong president, president trump. demand action. if they don't act, there will be consequences. >> reporter: in chicago's "home alone" overseeing expanded operations to arrest undocumented migrants. "the washington post" citing four people reports that the agency has set a quota of at least 1,200 to 1,500 arrests per day. >> is that what you are hoping for? >> we want to get as many criminals as possible. so there is no number. >> reporter: i.c.e. saying it made a thousand arrests on sunday, the most so far, since trump's inauguration, the agency has taken more than 2,600 people into custody. advocates worry undocumented migrants with no violent records will be swept up, too.

>> it's quite disturbing. they are going after people who are law-abiding, who are holding down jobs, have families here, who may have been here a decade or two decades and they are often our neighbors and friends. >> reporter: president trump's border czar told me there were so-called collateral arrests yesterday. those are undocumented migrants without silent records who happen to be nearby when i.c.e. agents go after their main targets much. >> gabe, thank you. now to our senior washington correspondent hallie jackson. good morning. immigration the big news over the weekend p friday night also president trump firing 18 inspectors general. these are the watchdogs inside feg agencies. tell us more about that. >> yeah, president trump is defending that move, savannah, firings that happened late into the night as critics like chuck schumer, the democratic senator, describe this as, in his words, a chilling purge. here the thing. federal law says the president gives congress 30 days notice before he fires or removes an

flooding or debris flows. officials warned residents in those areas to be ready in case they need to evacuate again. >> last week mr. roker was talking about how that rain would be a double edge sword. >> that's right. the good news, it's not as heavy as we were hoping or expecting, i should say, and because of that we've picked up an inch or so in some spots, but the good news is that area of, for flood alerts, flood watches, is in the mountains, santa clarita. we are looking at maybe another 0.5 inch of rain today, and most of that again in the mountainous areas funneling that rain into the places that lost vegetation. you get the mudslides. that low-pressure system is shift ag way bringing rain and snow into arizona. so the good news is for a lot of those folks, the danger zone as far as the flooding is concerned is just about over. guys. >> good to hear. we will check back in a minute. update on the airline that crashed into south korea last month killing 179 people

we are talking about this all over again. you will certainly recall for weeks all everyone was discussing in towns like this is what is flying above my home? are those drones or not? the faa flight restrictions have been lifted for parts of new york and new jersey. that was a week ago. now crowd sources say they have seen an uptick in january as mystery still surrounds the situation. >> that's an airplane. look at that. >> reporter: this morning it's not deja vu, but a possible return of more drones. >> the lights are coordinated. >> from connecticut to new jersey, new videos emerging once-again. >> we have like a field in the back of our house and see them. >> reporter: mandy, like others in the northeast, spotted drones in december. >> that's not a plane. >> reporter: before the night sky seemingly went dark after the faa temporarily banned drone flights in parts of the garden state and new york amid thousands of reporting sightings. then over a week ago the month long restrictions were lifted.

have you seen them since? >> we have. my daughter saw one the other day. >> the sightings alert. >> reporter: a research company nationally studying unidentified phenomena has tallied 650 sightings since november and say most are concentrated in the northeast. after a drop in the numbers immediately following the ban, they say just this month they received 49 reports in new york, new jersey, delaware, pennsylvania, and virginia. 14 came after the flight bans expired. >> if you look at the reports that people are submitting, they are saying i'm still seeing them ban or no ban, and they are happening. >> reporter: we pressed new york senator chuck schumer sunday about the validity of the reports. >> we have now seen new drone sightings. we will have to look into it. >> reporter: president trump vowing the same on his first day back in the white house. >> i would like to find out what it is and tell the people. >> reporter: the president says drones flew over his bedminster, new jersey, golf club where faa restrictions remain in effect to

the end of the month. in a statement to nbc news, the faa did not confirm the new sightings but said the agency is responsible for ensuring drones operate safely within the broader national airspace system. even though the biden white house dismissed any national security risk, residents say they haven't gotten much of an explanation. do you feel like you have clarity? >> no, it's frustrating and upsetting. not to know am, you know? >> that's the sentiment expressed by so many from the beginning, sam. any indication at this point, sam, what's behind the sightings this time around? >> reporter: not really. authorities are recalling, craig, probably looking the aircraft or illegal drones. the fbi referred us a statement they made the faa and dhs, 5,000 sightings, maybe 100 were worthy of investigation. as for enigma, they say the numbers are probably underreported because people have no idea what they are
