the steep descent. just from the video, your initial thoughts on what investigators will be asking? >> good morning, peter. it appears to me the plane was underpowered. it was moving quickly. it wasn't aero dynamically stalled. it happened just after the plane climbed into a low cloud ceiling. so th opens up the possibly of pilot spatial orientation, not being able to see the orientation because of the clouds and not concentrating on the instruments. perhaps there was a mechanical malfunction that distracted the crew. we just don't know. but you can hear the engines and see the knife edge of the airplane as it quickly goes into the ground about 250 knots. so investigators will focus on the weher. they will look into the background of the pilot. and this airplane has a cockpit

with so much focus on that horrific crash in d.c., now they have the black boxes. they have this crucial information at their fingertips. what is top of mind thing they're looking for to get those? >> a couple things, laura. first of all, the combination flight recorder and voice recorder for the helicopter will be very critical because that will pinpoint the altitude that they were at just prior to the collision. you know, there is reports that it was above the 200 foot requirement. so the flight data recorder will pinpoint that. and thdata recorder perhaps will catch conversations of the crew discussing, is that the target? is that the crj. the helicopter black boxes will be critical. for the airliner black boxes it will be less critical because we know it was on a normal approach, but there could be a discussion about, hey, do you see that helicopter? and also the flight data

recorder could indicate a final maneuver that perhaps tried to avoid it. >> jeff, just a quick final one if i could. as we learned, there was only one controller in the control tower at the time. that's not optimal for faa, but it is allowable. how big is the issue? >> with regards to this particular accident, it is too early to tell. this notion of the one controller handling two positions, that's fairly common. and actually, you don't need coordination. if you have better situation awareness as a single controller. but, still, the congestion around d.c. is something that needs to be mitigated. i think the faa took a big step yesterday. >> there was an eerie calm yesterday as i arrived at the terminals. thank you for taking the time.

mexico and canada and a 10% tariff on china. he said that the moves would make the u.s., quote, very rich and very strong. trump has repeatedly said these foreign countries would pay the price. though, yesterday you said there could be temporary disruptions to costs here in the u.s. what does this mean if you are watching at home for people? experts say the costs of tariffs are almost always passed on to the consumer, so that's you and me. you will also likely be paying more for things like groceries, toys and winter coats. that's because companielike matel, columbia sportswear and black & decker indicated they would raise prices on consumers because of these tariffs. new measures would violate a trade agreement with mexico and canada during his first term. and already we're hearing pushback. justin trudeau is pushing damage. he posted online that canada will be ready with a, quote,
