thursday morning. thanks for starting your day with us. i'm laura garcia. and i'm kris sanchez. i'm in for marcus washington. we begin with that microclimate weather alert because as we mentioned, there is more rain rolling in this morning, even as the soil in some neighborhoods is completely saturated already. tuesday's storm triggered a mudslide which slammed into one north bay home that is now red tagged. this is in santa rosa's deer trail neighborhood, which is under evacuation warnings now. we spoke with the owner of that red tagged home, and he said his wife was at home when she called him at work to say she was stuck. it was difficult to understand what she was saying and she was obviously panicking. she didn't know if she could get out and but. it was just so scary. i mean, you can hear how scary in his voice, he says. first responders rescued both his wife and his daughter. they are both okay, but the home is

going to have to be torn down and listen to this. he said this home is a rebuild from the home that they lost in the 2017 fire storm. meteorologist kari hall is keeping tabs on the latest conditions, and they may not get a lot of relief today. kari. yeah, that's because we are already seeing the rain here in the north bay as this storm system moves in and heavier rain off the coast that will be working its way across the bay area over the next few hours with storm ranger, we can see that there is a steady, widespread rain across the north bay, and it's starting to pick up elsewhere as well. so as the rain comes down, it just continues and gets heavier with the possibility of thunderstorms for today. some breaks in the activity for san francisco, but as you come down the peninsula into palo alto, that rain moving in soon extending over toward oakland where we are seeing some milder temperatures this morning, but still a chilly start and then going throughout the day. more rain and gusty winds in the forecast into tonight. we'll continue to take a look at this and what's ahead.
6:03 am
but mike you're showing us changes at the bay bridge. yeah. more folks in the middle to spreading out the metering lights on. but here these dots there on the lens, that's rain that's happening or light drizzle right now continuing to build as kari has been showing us. note the changes on our road weather index as well. we're seeing highlighted green patches throughout the east bay. we'll see some on the north bay and then continuing down the peninsula as that light rain continues to build across the san mateo bridge, though, the bigger deal is not the rain, although it's coming. we have a big rig that's still blocking your right lane mid-span westbound. that's the reason for early slowing. the dumbarton bridge hasn't seen any problems and anywhere south of there pretty typical patterns. back to you. all right. thank you, mike. and don't forget when a storm is rolling through the bay area like today, you can track it with our free nbc bay area app. you can get storm ranger data. the bay area's only mobile doppler radar. storm ranger is closer to the ground, so it gets a better scan of your neighborhoods. at ground level, you can see fog and rain, even smoke. our app is free and it's available for all smartphone devices. after worldwide

rain in the tri-valley to possibly an inch and three quarters with some gusty winds, maybe even some thunderstorms today. and with the colder temperatures, some of our mountains may be coated with some snowflakes and we'll still be watching those rising water levels. and mike, where can we find a little bit cheaper gas prices? well, you know, san jose has been a leader and continues its place with the best of the bay. the lowest listed is 367, but only at one spot. now it's mo's stop on mckee road at the top here, alameda county has your east bay low. the best price there would be in dublin. 377 at ana express on amador vavalley road and in the north bay. marin county's best is in san rafael. 397, so considerably higher there per gallon at elite gas and maher on ritter street. you find the best deal though, in your area. gasbuddy.com on the roadways. good deal for most of our drivers. starting to see more wet roadways. watch the san mateo bridge getting some rain as well as this disabled big rig still blocking your right lane of your westbound commute.

affecting the bay area today. and it doesn't have that connection to the atmospheric river, but still will have a big impact on us for today with a little bit more energy that could spawn some thunderstorms and maybe even some tornadoes as a possibility for parts of the bay area today. we're seeing some widespread rain across the north bay as you go up in elevations in spots like mount saint helena, we are seeing some snow coming down. and then for the san francisco area to the peninsula extending across the bay into oakland, some lighter rain. a closer look at storm ranger pretty much shows a widespread steady rain in the north bay, with some pockets of heavier downpours just offhe coast and just to our west. that will be moving in over the next few hours. for san jose it is dry now. the temperature is at 44 degrees. but look at the forecast for today as we see the rain rolling in. at times it may be heavy, other times it may be a little bit lighter. you just want to be prepared for that weather changing minute by

patiently awaits the arrival of jimmy buckets. the question is, will he push the warriors over the top? score. why's everyone talking about the blockbuster multi-team trade ahead of today's deadline that will reportedly bring jimmy butler to the warriors? and as part of that deal, the warriors give up three players, one of them, fan favorite andrew wiggins, who would be heading to butler's team in miami. another recently acquired dennis schroder, who is believed to be going to utah. butler is one of the league's top veterans, but he's bounced from team to team over the years, and some would argue he is wearing out his welcome. either way, if butler has any magic left, the warriors certainly could have used it last night in utah. the warriors led for most of the way in the fourth quarter. then in the last three minutes, they gave up an 11 point lead to lose the game 131 to 128. 649 right now. turning back to our weather coverage, we have a live look at palisades tahoe. looks cold

right now. look at those olympic rings just blowing. you know what? there is more snow expected today. cinthia pimentel is tracking the possibly dangerous conditions. and there's great concern if people are traveling that way. yeah, that window has really come to a close this morning as that winter storm warning goes into effect at 10:00 and continues into the noon hours for our friday. so let's take a look at what we can expect. a couple of inches 6 to 10 at the low levels, but it's that 2 to 3ft mark up there in the peaks. now with those gusty winds around 50 miles an hour plus and those ridges up to 100 miles an hour. i wouldn't be surprised if a lot of those resorts closed down the lifts. so those travel delays are also a possibility. but if you have to have to go the chains and the emergency supplies, blankets and snacks to keep you through that storm. now as we take it hour by hour, there we see the rain, the thunderstorm chances through the valley floors, and that snow as we go on into parts of 80 and

50. it is just a really treacherous as we go on into the day tomorrow, with it starting to clear a little bit into the second half of the afternoon, nighttime if you have to go. but i would wait until saturday once we get that daylight and the conditions start to clear on out, we are in recovery mode with our sierra snowpack that provides our state's water supplies from about 65% last week statewide to 75%. so we're playing catch up through parts of the central and southern parts. but the northern part of the sierra is doing well over that 100% of normal for this date. so we're improving that snowpack. and i want to go over to kari hall now, who has a look at the rain here in the bay area. where is it now? kari. yeah. cinthia. we are under the microclimate weather alert as the rain is already starting to pick up around the bay area. as this storm system moves in, the rain will get heavier over the next couple of hours. so a closer look shows all of this activity. the yellows and the reds. we know that that indicates some heavy rainfall, but the weather service also

warning about the potential that some of these thunderstorms that develop late morning into the afternoon may rotate and that could create some wind damage or possibly some tornadoes. so we'll be on the lookout for that. and storm ranger is tracking it all, giving us a very high detail. look at the rain picking up in half moon bay and pacifica moving through the peninsula, and that will be also pushing into the east bay over the next 20 to 30 minutes. so looking at all of the widespread steady rain for the north bay, we know we don't need all of this, but it does continue for today. and then looking at oakland, where the rain is also getting heavier and that's going to be moving into hayward. this is what to expect. this is what's different with this storm system compared to the other one. it's not an atmospheric river, but that does not mean that it won't have a big impact. we're going to see about a half to possibly an inch and three quarters of rainfall, some gusty winds. and because this storm is colder, we could see some snow on some of our bay area mountains. and we're still
6:53 am
watching the creeks and streams, as well as the rivers. the russian river at guerneville still has that potential of flooding, and that continues today, along with the elevated landslide threat in the north bay. and looking at the hour by hour forecast, still seeing some widespread rain at 2:00, it's going to become a little bit more hit or miss, but the rain chances will continue through at least early tomorrow before this all clears out and gives us a break for the weekend. and we have several days of a break from the rain going into our super bowl weekend. it's going to be in the upper 50s and sunny, but our mornings are going to be cold each day and watching out for the next storm system. moving in for the middle of next week. chilly weekend in san francisco, but at least it will be sunny. and mike, you're saying the commute could definitely be a wet one? yeah, just like you've been saying. kari. in fact, i copied what you said because it does impact the roadways. and look at that water on the lens right now as the crowd builds out of richmond over here. same, but a little farther south. same part of the bay looking east bay with some
