on sunday, the philadelphia eagles dominated super bowl lix, flying to victory against the kansas city chchiefs. loss in the big game two years ago, the birds got swift pay back, squashing kansas city's hopes for a three-peat. nick sirianni got emotional about his first super bowl win. >> this is the ultimate team game. you can't be great without the greatness of others. >> while the chiefs' defense kept running back saquon barkley in check, they had no answers for eventual super bowl mvp jalen hurts to channeled his inner excellence with two touchdown passes and a brotherly shove in another. >> just been able to use every experience and learn from it. the good, the bad, all of it, using it as fuel. to pursue my own greatness.

preshow, president trump defending elon musk as he tries to slash federal agencies. >> bottom line, you say you trust him? >> trust elon? he's not gaining anything. i don't know how can he devote the time to it. he's so into it. i'm going to tell him very soon, maybe in 24 hours, to go check the department of education. he's going to find the same thing. >> reporter: the president pushing back on judges who have temporarily blocked efforts by doge. >> i think it's crazy. and we have to solve the efficiency problem. we have to solve the fraud, waste, abuse, all the things that have gone on in government. >> reporter: his administration back in court trying to push through their widespread buyouts for federal workers, while on saturday, a federal judge temporarily blocked musk and doge staffers from accessing sensitive payment systems. trump has an overall approval rating of 53%.

meanwhile, the president saying on air force one that he's serious about his proposal to take over gaza. >> think of it as a big real estate site. and the united states is going to own it. and we'll slowly, very slowly, we're in no rush, develop itit. >> reporter: trump also saying he will announce a plan for new tariffs. >> everybody. any steel coming into the united states is going to have a 25% tariff. aluminum, too. >> reporter: and in the super bowl interview, when asked if he is serious when he says he wants canada to be the 51st state. >> is it a real thing? >> yeah, it is. >> and our thanks to yamiche for that report. discusussions on the second phase of the gaza cease-fire are happening today in doha and jerusalem. talks take place in the shadow of president trump's proposal to, quote, take over gaza, something the president doubled down on over the weekend.

>> we'll make it into a very good site for future development by somebody. we'll let other countries develop parts of it. it will be beautiful. people can come from all over the world and live there. but we're going to take care of the palestinians. we're going to make sure they live beautifully and in harmony and peace and that they're not murdered. >> for the latest, let's turn to daniele hamamdjian. how much of the president's outburst impacting the diplomacy here? >> reporter: good morning, frances. as is always the case or often the case with president trump, it remains unclear if this was proposed as a negotiating tactic to try to put more pressure on hamas. there are three eks left in the first phase of the deal. and the israeli prime minister is sending a delegation to qatar for talks on phase two. but, that israeli team includes low-level officials, prompting speculation that benjamin netanyahu doesn't want to extend the truce, as it might briring down his right wing coalition

government. some members of his cabinet want the fighting to resume. despite so much uncertainty, frances, phase one is still going according to plan. over the weekend, more hostages were released in exchange for prisoners, and the israeli military withdrew from a key corridor called the netzarim corridor. but reconstruction, which will take years, wouldn't happen until phase three. but talks of forcing hundreds of thousands of palestinians could simply put an end to the negotiations. the idea of relocating the population has been flatly rejected by jordan and egypt and flatly rejected, quite frankly, by the wider arab world. but, a new twist in this proposal. prime minister netanyahu is now suggesting that saudi arabia carve out a piece of its own country for a palestinian state. the idea slammed by the arab kingdom, where officials say the

palestinian people cannot be expelled. frances? >> danielle, thank you. at least a dozen people were hurt in a fire and explosion at an industrial plant in northwestern pennsylvania. five firefighters are among the injured. all are expected to survive. our priscilla thompson has this report. >> whoa! >> reporter: heart-stopping moments in pennsylvania. an explosion at an industrial plant creating a massive inferno. >> that's huge. >> reporter: in sager town, about a half hour from erie, flames burst through the roof of parker lloyd corporation, with a loud boom. >> shook the whole back wall of the building. i thought it was ice falling off the roof. >> reporter: bright orange flames seen here, raging at the adhesives and coating manufacturing facility. a massive plume of black smoke filling the sky. emergency crews rushed to the

scene. seven workers and five firefighters were injured, officials say. all non-life-threatening. nbc news reached out to the facility's parent company, parker, for comment but did not hear back. officials say a shelter in place order has lifted, as they continue to monitor air quality. priscilla thompson, nbc news. trouble on the tracks in nebraska where two separate trains derailed yesterday in the western part of the state. containers slid off the tracks and caught fire, not far from the wyoming state line. then a few hours later, near north platte, cars came off the rail and blocked the road. a weekend winter storm brought freezing rain and snow, causing a pileup on a minneapolis highway. with more cars sliding off the roads from new york to indiana. up to four inches of snow fell
