people eating, shopping. really just taking it all in as the clock ticks down on the all star game. this is, of course, what people have been waiting for, but it's also been a big weekend in the bay. hours before game time, nba fans stopped by thrive city to take a look. all eyes are on san francisco. it's the bay area's chance to shine in the bay area with the all star game. oh, yeah. please. and the super bowl is coming too, right? yeah. so yeah, definitely the nba all star game is tonight at chase center. but all star weekend has been filled with events and festivities on both sides of the bay. simon streets is with magical donuts at park gardens and says there were plenty of customers for valentine's day friday, and they've only kept picking up steam. then an afternoon the nba fans started drifting in, and then saturday, who? full on nba fans. it's been huge. you know, it's been such a difficult time for small businesses here in san francisco since the pandemic.

erica robles is head of growth with spark social sf, a food truck park, community gathering space and event space. you know, evts like this where there's just a really positive light being shed on san francisco. a lot of these small businesses are really feeling it, and they're just you can feel a sense of gratitude in the air, but there's also just an energy in the air where, you know, we want to keep this momentum. in the mission bay neighborhood within walking distance of chase center, we have a really awesome activation going on with the national basketball players association for all star weekend. and we have the nba two k hoop bus that's out here. and another neighbor has noticed the increase in foot traffic throughout the weekend and thinks it's a positive sign. yeah, i think there's a ton more foot traffic, especially in the evenings. certain pockets of the downtown that usually are kind of quiet or dead at night, a lot more lively, livelier. it's much more excitement. i think also the lunar new year parade yesterday, there's a lot more people just out and about. so it was great to see the city kind of back on its feet. now. back here live. of course, warriors

fans certainly represented out here, but we're seeing fans of other teams represented out here too. and again, people we spoke with today really excited about what they're seeing in the city and would like to see the momentum keep going. reporting live in san francisco christie smith, nbc bay area news. thank you christie. and as christie just mentioned, the game is bringing a lot of people to the city and revenue for businesses in the process. but one san francisco nonprofit is also getting a big boost, too. you might recognize this guy. charles barkley served meals at glide yesterday. later in the day, he gave the church a shout out during his broadcast on tnt, and chuck announced he is donating $250,000 to glide. glide said it is very grateful for barkley's gift. chuck out in the community. i like to see it all right. a live look at san francisco right now. look at those clouds hovering over the city. might be a good thing. the all star game is inside chase center tonight. let's talk about the bay area. seeing some spotty rain showers today. take a look at the time lapse video showing the clouds moving through

earlier. and then a rainbow appeared for just a quick second. meteorologist rob mayeda is here tracking the showers. and when we could see a bigger storm. so is it a good thing that the all star game is inside? yeah, i think so. there's been a few sprinkles. it's nothing. i mean, it would be difficult to play on a wet surface outside, but we're not having any flood watches over this. just a few sprinkles at times. and you can see the cloudy skies around san jose and our storm ranger mobile doppler radar picking up on a few sprinkles near the coast. you got a lot of clouds, but not necessarily a lot of rain. and from here the skies should clear as we head through the overnight hours from north to south. and something to watch for tomorrow morning around 7 a.m. could be patchy. areas of fog forming around the inner bay. now, later this week we will see a stronger weather system, unlike today where we had scattered areas of light rain. look at the outlook with this midweek storm. you can see portions of the north bay and the santa cruz mountains, about a third of an inch to maybe a half inch of rain coming in with that midweek storm. then later on, if you've been looking for some spring like weather, we

also have that coming up in the 7-day forecast. a look at how that could impact next weekend's weather coming up in about ten minutes. all right rob, thanks. and don't forget you can track the weather while you're on the go. just download our free nbc bay area weather app. all you have to do is scan that qr code you see right there on your screen. you'll get access to stormranger, the bay area's only mobile doppler radar. it's close to the ground, so it gets a better scan of your neighborhood. it was a busy night for police after several illegal sideshows popped up across the bay area, one even blocking the bay bridge. it all started around 1230 in richmond, but police quickly shut down that sideshow. a short time later, another one popped up in oakland, then another across the bay in daly city. then around three this morning, police broke up a slide show on the bay bridge. you can see traffic was at a complete standstill. it is unclear yet if any arrests were made. the search continues for a person who fell into the water along san francisco's embarcadero. it happened just before 1030 last night near pier 32. two people actually fell

into the bay. firefighters were able to rescue one of them and took that person to the hospital. no word on how they're doing, but crews are still looking for the second person. firefighters and police are using boats and thermal imaging cameras as part of the search. police have also used drones. now, it's unclear how the pair ended up in the water. a large group of demonstrators walked from san mateo city hall to san francisco to protest mass deportations. the march was organized by rights over borders. the group gathered early this morning on the peninsula, then walked up to the city demanding immigration reform. it's about the people that came before me, the people that can't do it. opening pathways to citizenship and residency and changing immigration laws. so it's really personal for me. the demonstrators stopped in san bruno and daly city during the march. volunteers were stationed along the route to show support and offer information about the cause. well, it is day two of protest against elon musk in the

tv for you. exactly. i was left wanting to hear. hear what else anthony had planned for us. but we'll check back with him later, i'm sure. maybe later. all right. lawmakers have been watching while we've been looking at how much money home contractors are charging customers before they do work. dozens of bay area homeowners have shared horror stories about a builder taking big money in advance, but never finishing a project or doing no work at all. laura and martinez tells us she paid $40,000 to a contractor who only filed a permit, then went belly up. it's a sense of absolute violation, of course. laura had to hire a new contractor to get her adu off the ground. she and others have spoken up for months now. a bay area lawmaker is listening and taking action. he's poised to change the contractor law statewide. tonight, after the big snl anniversary show will

lay out the proposed new penalty that a peninsula rep calls righteous. it hits contractors who don't deliver in the pocketbook. and that lawmaker believes it's hefty enough to scare off crooked or corrupt contractors and protect you. a tip to our team launched our investigation. if you have one for us or a consumer complaint, snap the qr code on screen right now to fill out our consumer complaint form online. i'll join you again later tonight after snl. back to you. all right. that was consumer investigator chris kamara. chris thank you. well you're going to have to wait a bit longer if you're trying to score a spot at some of yosemite's most popular campgrounds. the park announced it's delaying reservations for visits between june 15th and july 14th. this is for the upper pines, lower pines, north pines, wawona, and hodgdon meadow campsites. it is unclear what's behind the delay, but it comes as the park is up against a staffing shortage due to a federal hiring freeze. yosemite's reservation system is
3:16 pm
also delayed. over the past few years, the park has used reservations for its busiest months to get rid of heavy traffic, illegal parking, long waits like you see right here. the national park wanted to make that program permanent this year, but the plan is on hold so that the trump administration can review the changes. no word on when that decision could come. rob mayeda joins us now. rob, i know you were teasing ahead to some springlike temperatures next weekend, but i swear this morning there was a hint of spring in the air. yeah, 60. that's not too bad. it could be in the 70s by next weekend. so the temperatures starting to trend upward. but for now we still have a few sprinkles. also around the bay area. cloudy skies on sunday as we take you over to san jose. as gavin mentioned, not too chilly. it's 63 degrees with mostly cloudy conditions. will take a look at our storm ranger radar in a moment with the view over the south bay. you can see out towards the tri-valley. east bay, 61 degrees in dublin under those overcast skies. and more of thats you head up to walnut creek, 61 degrees and into san

rafael. now a little bit cooler. 57 currently under those cloudy skies and san francisco seeing a few sprinkles west of downtown at 56 degrees. and this is a view from our storm ranger mobile doppler radar right there atop san bruno mountain, looking up into marin county and sonoma county. that is a few areas of brief showers passing through, and you can see this time lapse here on the radar. most of the moisture now has moved off wards the east, even though we've got a lot of clouds over the bay area. these aren't your typical big rain producing clouds, just enough for a few sprinkles at times tonight. then skies start to clear, which could set the stage for some patchy fog to set up for tomorrow morning's commute, so watch out for that to our friends up in mendocino county. showers may be ongoing for you into monday. you can see how the showers, for the most part, stay off to the north with partly cloudy skies as we move forward into monday afternoon. so morning temperatures starting off in the 40s watching for those patchy areas of fog. then, as we head through the afternoon
3:18 pm
temperatures tomorrow upper 50s and again some low 60s south around san jose, heading down towards san martin and gilroy. upper 50s again around san francisco and oakland. so the midweek weather system will have more moisture and also be a stronger weather system at that. and you can see the impact right there tuesday night and into wednesday as we give you the timeline here. wednesday morning, rain into the north bay by around mid morning. rain all over the place, including san jose. unlike today where the rain chances are really scattered, everybody should get at least a little rain out of the system, with the north bay picking up about a half inch of rain during the day on wednesday. so this map looks different than we had today. the green and the yellow, about a third of an inch to a half inch of rain up there in the north bay santa cruz mountains, probably seeing similar and about a 10th of an inch of rain or less closer to san jose. then once that moves out, high pressure moves in. and this is what's going to lead to temperatures climbing. you see it there in the bottom of the
3:19 pm
screen. and now as we go full screen, look at san francisco later this week after that rain clears on wednesday. could be in the upper 60s, which is quite a change from the upper 50s we're seeing outside right now. and for the valleys that have been in the low 60s this weekend, upper 60s and 70s in reach as we head into next weekend. so the trend of midweek storms continues, just not as strong as what we saw last week, but could be looking at some pretty warm temperatures. average highs this time of year close to 60. may see low 70s next saturday and sunday. good timing if you like spring weather. waiting for a weekend. perfect. all right rob, thank you. up next, snl celebrates 50 years. meet the team behind the cue cards and see what it takes to keep the cast on script. and a quick reminder we are now on streaming on pluto 24/7. you can watch nbc bay area news whenever you want. scan that qr code for our easy how to stream guide on your favorite streaming platform. you can watch our live newscast, breaking updates and other content.
