as a catalyst for change. right now at five preparing incarcerated people for life after prison. the new program going beyon basketball, and the major boost it's getting from the warriors. plus, presidents day protests are planned across the bay area today. we take a look at their demands for change, and let's take a live look outside on this monday morning. we are looking ahead to
5:01 am
see how your new work week is shaping up. meteorologist kari hall has the big picture. this is today in the bay. thanks so much for joining us. hope you're off on this president's day. i'm kris sanchez, i'm in for laura garcia, and i'm marcus washington. time to get you started with this new work week coming off of a busy weekend across the bay area. kari hall tracking what we all can expect out there. kari walking out the door today, i was like, oh, it's not too bad. it's not too cold out there. and we're starting out with a lot of clouds and even some patchy fog. as we go into the afternoon, it becomes mostly sunny and we will have some gradually warming temperatures, but then midweek, a slight chance of showers coming in. after that, we'll see temperatures warming up and we'll be headed toward a spring like weekend. but as we are feeling around the bay area, a wide range in temperatures really just depending on where you are, a lot of upper 40s and low 50s, but there are some cold spots, like danville starting out at 39 degrees compared that
5:02 am
to the 52 in hayward and 47 that we're seeing in san jose. but we'll close that gap, and we'll all have temperatures in the upper 50s and low 60s for later on this afternoon, as we get a lot of sunshine, and tomorrow just a touch warmer as we continue on that warming trend. so we'll talk more about that and what's ahead, as well as that slight chance of rain in the forecast coming up in a few minutes. back to you. all right. thank you. kari. new overnight uc berkeley is investigating an armed robbery. it happened along college avenue right around 9:00 last night. police say a man wearing a ski mask stole jewelry from the victim while also wearing a dark blue berkeley sweatshirt. that man was then last seen taking off westbound toward telegraph avenue. anyone with information is asked to call uc berkeley police. to a follow up in san jose. now, police are looking for the people involved in the stabbing death of a 15 year old boy. that teenager was stabbed at santana row on valentine's day, and it was just after seven in the

evening. police say there were there were a number of people involved in a fight. officers say the 15 year-old victim died at the hospital. the people police are looking for fled the scene and so far there is no word on their identities. anyone with information is urged to call san jose police. san jose police providing more details about a chaotic night at san jose. san jose's san pedro square. this is citizen app video showing the police response after a midnight. this was early yesterday. the officers say that it started with a brawl when police tried to break it up. they say others got involved and the situation escalated. a few officers suffered minor injuries trying to break up things. several people were taken into custody, and activists across the nation are organizing a day of protest today themed with the slologan saying, quote, not my presidents day, but. my. now this all
5:04 am
follows bay area protests this weekend that included one yesterday outside of the tesla plant in fremont. protests are planned today across the state and nation. that includes one in san jose, another in san francisco, both of those starting at noon. now, people will gather at 11 a.m. for a march and rally in oakland. in another protest yesterday, immigrants rights supporters marched from san mateo city hall to san francisco. members of the group rights over borders gathered yesterday early in san mateo, and then marched more than 20 miles along el camino real. they are demanding an end to the federal crackdown. it's about the people that came before me, t people that can't do it. opening pathways to citizenship and residency and changing immigration laws. so it's really personal for me. demonstrators made stops along the way in cities including san bruno, before joining for that rally in san francisco. the

others lined parts of the route in order to show support. steph curry riding high following this weekend's 2025 nba all star game last night, the four time nba championship winner had another trophy to add to his very crowded trophy case the mvp award. his team, which included oakland's damian lillard and former teammate kevin durant, won the tournament at chase center. the game featured lots of nods to the warriors and bay area culture, and it included a celebration of bay area music from e-40 to two short sweetie and vogue. all right. that's a shot he made. like, that was pretty cool. all right, look, more than dunks, plays and all the hype. basketball really proving that it has the power to transform beyond the game. today in the bay. ginger conejero saab is live in san francisco this morning. and ginger leading the way on the effort is our very own golden state warriors. good morning. good morning guys. well
5:06 am
we saw those dunks, those shots and all those trickthat brought fans to their feet during all star weekend. but it is our very own golden state warriors that are proving that there's much more to the game. the game of basketball, much like the game of life, doesn't always go according to the playbook. two on this side, two on this side. sometimes it can mean you get taken out of the game. i committed my crime in 19 years old. came to prison at 20. they gave me life without the possibility of parole for murder. robbery. but what happens if you get a chance to be put back in? would you be ready? and how would youou start again? i don't react, i respond, i take a breath and i move on. let it go. get it back. next play, i attack. what we do is we use sport, in this case basketball, as a catalyst for change. hilton freud is the global ceo of the twinning
5:07 am
project born out of the united kingdom. they engage incarcerated people in football based programs to rebuild life skills and even obtain a qualification which could improve chances of employment upon release. recently, the twinning project partnered with a club in los angeles, and that is when the golden state warriors took notice. i got to give a lot of credit to our director, claudia. least, you know, she kind of discovered the twinning project, saw what was going on and what was being done with soccer. and she had the idea of, well, why can't we do this with basketball warriors? and that is what the warriors did. more than 20 incarcerated people have graduated from the warriors partnership, and they can't seem to get enough of the community that's being built. we bottom of our hearts, but it's bigad and they came in that name on your shirt. it's the twinning project. ray woodfork is serving his life sentence at the california state prison solano in vacaville. i killed mr.

roberto granados arguello street on december 20th of 2001. that moment changed my life forever. woodfork went through the twinning project program not knowing what to expect but what he got out of it. the blues. they don't see this. they treat me like a human. sometimes you have to believe in someone else's belief in you until yours kicks in. nba champion and former warrior festus ezili knows sometimes it's that coach in the game or in life that makes all the difference. just like my mentor did for me, i'm doing it for other people. and it's not. it's not just because i'm a samaritan. i just feel like it's my responsibility. i've been given that platform. some of them did some bad things and they're trying to change their lives for the better. i was able to find myself here, so i was able to actually redefine who i was and not allow that moment to define me as a person. the twin project is bigger than the golden state. warriors are
5:09 am
the first partner for the twinning project here in the united states, but the twinning project says they're not going to be the last guys back to you. well, it's just so nice to see that transformation, too. like just they look happy. they look like they believe in themselves. it's really cool. absolutely. all right. thank you, thank you. thanks, ginger, by the way, for you right now and developing in the southeast kentucky's governor saying president donald trump is approving a natural disaster declaration. this is following some of the strongest storms in years. now, at least nine deaths are now confirmed rain, wind and winter weather toppling trees, washing away some of those roads. in louisville, parts of eastern kentucky are dealing with heavy flooding. meteorologist kari hall of course, tracking where that weather storm heading right now. so, kari, what's going on there now? yeah, i had to call and check on my friends and family from louisville. you know, that's where i'm from. so there was so muc rain. they had about six inches of rainfall over a short period of time. but
5:10 am
now that system has weakened. it has now driven some some of the lake effect snow showers that we're seeing off towards the east. and they're getting ready for a snow storm to move in right behind that, even as they're trying to clean up. so it's definitely a very difficult situation that we're seeing unfolding with all of the rainfall. and then snow headed that way for the bay area. things have been fairly calm over the past couple of days. after seeing the rain taper off on friday, the snow showers over the sierra and we are going to have some dry weather for at least today and tomorrow. so a few clouds overhead as you're heading out and it will stay partly cloudy throughout the morning. some patches of fog and temperatures going from upper 40s in san jose to 60 degrees. and we'll only make it there just briefly, mostly staying in the 50s throughout the day. that's what we'll see around the bay area going into late morning into the afternoon, a gradual warm up and it clearing for much of the bay area tomorrow it's a little bit warmer with some more
5:11 am
sunshine in san jose. we'll see high temperatures in the mid 60s and low 60s for san francisco. so we'll talk about more changes ahead for the week. that's coming up in just a few minutes. back to you. all right. thanks, kari. well, elon musk's doge is creating a buzz as his orgaganizationims to tap into the irs system. all of that sensitive data. still ahead on today in the bay. the pushback that move is already getting. and it's president's day, right. well, the new york stock exchange says no, it's not. we'll take a look at what's in a name coming up. scott, you know this guy charles barkley? yeah. often regarded as a staunch critic of san francisco. well, he might be reevaluating that stance. i actually saw him this weekend. he looked like he was having fun. yeah. well, ahead for you, the volunteer work he did during all-star weekend and the big donation he made. keep it right here. mhuc

started at 513. let's take a look at union city and what to expect. we've had some fog moving around parts of the inner bay. it's going to be in the low 50s as you step out the door, and may cool down a few more degrees, and gradually clearing late morning into the afternoon as we head for the upper 50s and low 60s. we will talk more about this with some midweek rain, and then a warm up coming up in the microclimate forecast and heading out on the roads. i wanted to give you a live look outside in dublin, a look at traffic this morning where we are seeing things flowing fairly light on this holiday. but we will keep aeye on any
5:15 am
incidents and i'll give you an update on that as well as the forecast coming up in a few minutes. well good morning. very happy monday to you. it is a holiday so the stock markets are closed. technically they're closed for washington's birthday. that's what federal law named it. so that's why the new york stock exchange calls it that. you may have heard the white house wants everybody to say gaugh of america. so by that token, it is not presidents day. today, the white house also says it's likely to grantt doge acces to taxpayer records, what the irs calls the integrated data retrieval system. doge says it's looking for fraud and inaccuracies. white house also says it plans to meet with the federal reserve on a regular basis. so the president's opinion about the economy could be expressed. the central bank is designed to be an independent body making decisions outside the political sphe. the head of trump's economic council told
5:16 am
cbs, quote, the federal reserve's independence is respected. the point is, the president's opinion can also be heard. he is the president of the united states. cnbc has done the math. figured out the golden state warriors are the world's most valuable basketball team, selling more jerseys and tickets and endorsements than any other. the warriors bring in nearly $800 million each year, giving them an overall value of about 9.5 billion. nick in second place, lakers below them. bulls and rockets least valuable team is the memphis grizzlies, worth 3 billion in change. a former apple engineer bought the grizzlies back in 2012 for $377 million, about ten times his money. now he predicted basketball would continue to grow. i believe nba is the international sport of the future. it's so well tightly ingrained in youth culture and
5:17 am
fashion and. and when i've traveled the world with on business, with ubiquity, i've seen basketball courts popping up in china and india and south america. so i believe nba is a fantastic investment. robert pera there. yeah, 300 million. so to buy it worth 3 billion today. he did okay. i think he did. and you know what? that's my hometown. i know it is. yes. you know what? i didn't grow up with him, though, so they're still kind of a new team, but, you know. hey! go, grizz. we're going to talk more about basketball in the nba weekend too. that's right. later on in the show. thank you scott. well, one man is going viral for one small celebration that is getting the attention of a lot of people around the world. my dad crossed the street over here, right? i live over in that house there. okay. and that's an invite to a party. okay. that is 87 year old doug turner, who lives in bucks county, pennsylvania. he's delivering an invitation to his neighbors. the party is a winter solstice gathering that turner started
5:18 am
years ago with his late wife. word spread quickly after his neighbor posted about it on social media, and celebrities like the voice judge michael buble and bethenny frankel are among the people taking notice. turner penned 25 unique invitations with his own artistic flair and sense of humor, and hope that the event would bring the neighborhood together and build up the strength of the neighborhood. to me, it's part of humanity, i guess. somebody had to start it, and maybe, maybe this will continue to go on, you know, during the spring, summer and fall and around every year. all right. the party happened on saturday. turner is joining today live in studio to talk about it. be sure to tune in at 7:00 right after today in the bay. but if i send you an invitation, you better not put it on social media. right. look what they did. oh, put that away. i don't a longtime nba analyst and former hoops star charles barkley. sir charles appeared to be running back, his longtime beef with san francisco offering up a big assist in the
5:19 am
process. maybe, you know, you know, in the past, he's taken his verbal shots at the city, criticizing it over the homeless crisis. well, barkley has previouslylyeferred to san francisco as, quote, rat infested and the armpit of america. well, all-star weekend seemed to change that tune there. it actually included spending some time over at the glide memorial in the tenderloin, serving up food to those in need. yeah, that's not all there. he actually. here's what he actually said about the church during saturday's telecast. well, i spent the day at a homeless shelter. the people were amazing. it's called glide the man. they worked so hard over there. and i want to give them a lot of love and sunshine. and you know what? and not only that, i'm going to donate $250,000 to glide. wow. good to see that. his donation comes after he admitted to actually liking san francisco during thursday's broadcast. as i was saying, i saw him walk out of a party. yeah, he was leaving
5:20 am
as i was coming. he was like, yeah, i got to go home because i'm old. that was his words, not mine. what time was it? it was like after ten. oh, yeah. yeah. but as he was leaving, doctor j was coming in. i'm just saying. and doctor j left after one. i'm like, you had a jam packed weekend. i did, like, a lot of fun. it was great. a lot going on in the city. a lot of people out there, a lot of people had a good time too. and the weather was beautiful this weekend. nice. yeah. it was good that the rain held up for all of that. i went to tahoe and it took me ten hours. oh, yeah. we were just sitting there, so that was a hot mess. i'm glad that it's short. yeah, that was a short ten minutes. turn around. right. so we're starting out this morning. all clear. no rain, no snow, none of that mess. we're starting out with some mid to upper 40s as you're heading out the door. let's head to santa rosa with a look at where we are right now. it's 42 degrees. it's cloudy. we've also seen some patctches of fog, but eventually it's going to start to clear out as we go throughout the day, and we'll be in the upper 50s and
5:21 am
low 60s for later on this afternoon. overall, a really nice day and even warmer for tomorrow as that sunshine continues. napa will see a high of 62, also 62 in oakland, 60 in san francisco and mid 60s for the south bay. looking at wednesday, it's going to reach into the mid 60s. but this is also when we may see some spotty showers. not all of us getting the rain. it looks like it's mainly in the north bay with a wave of showers quickly moving through on wednesday morning. kind of hit or miss and then continuing to fall apart as it moves into the rest of the bay area. so that slight chance of rain in the forecast is all we have throughout the week, and then it warms up. take a look at brentwood. we're starting out the week with temperatures in the low to mid 60s, but by the weekend it will feel like spring. we're talking about highs into the low 70s, so that's going to be a nice little welcome change. although we could use a little bit more rain in the south bay. we are going to take a break all throughout the week and as we go into the
5:22 am
weekend, it will head for highs in the low 70s, while san francisco will see some temperatures in the upper 50s today, but trending more toward the mid 60s for the weekend. i'll have another look at weather and then an update on traffic coming g up in a few minutes. back to you. thanks, gary. should have skipped tahoe and gone to all star weekend. next on today in the bay, i'm anthony flores at chase center. what a night for steph curry showing out on his home court. he wins the mvp award. i'll

of fog here and there and then into the late morning early afternoon hours. it will be clearing out and we are going to see temperatures in the upper 50s and low 60s for today, 60 in martinez and oakland, as well as 60 in santa rosa. as we go throughout the week, our temperatures go up a couple of degrees each day. it will be 64 in dublin tomorrow, as well as hayward and palo alto and santa rosa. so we'll talk more about this and what's ahead in our microclimate forecast that's coming up in a few minutes. marcus. all right kerry. thank you. well, bay area activists are taking part in a national day of protest just against president trump, but also against tesla's elon musk. musk, of course, is leading the effort to slash the federal budget and thousands of jobs in the process. today in the bay's bob redell live for us outside of tesla dealership in dublin. and bob, that's where protesters gathered over the weekend. correct. hundreds of people gathered outside tesla showrooms, like this one in dublin and others throughout the country. good morning to marcus

to protest tesla ceo elon musk and his efforts to cut federal spending and his efforts to close federal agencies. as you can see in this video, there was a small number of people gathered outside this dealership behind me here in dublin and at other tesla showrooms throughout the country to try to get people from buying musk's electric vehicles to try to stop them on the peninsula. a number of people held signs and stood on the sidewalk outside the tesla dealership in palo alto. president trump has appointed musk to lead the department of government efficiency, also known as doge, to cut what he and musk says is wasteful spending by the federal government. many people question musk's true intentions have criticized doge's lack of transparency, and believe musk has access to and continues to access the private, personal and financial information of american citizens. concerned about the coup, the ongoing administrative coup by the

about a slam dunk. basketball fans had lots to soak in during the all star weekend finale. and let's just say last night's games delivered for dub nation, did they not? all right, so nba tried out a new format for you. and as today in the bay's alyssa goard reports. steph curry played a starring role. the golden state warriors stephen curry was the clear star of this weekend. his team, which included oakland's own damian lillard and former teammate kevin durant, won the tournament. as for steph, it's only fitting that the all-star mvp on this floor go to steph curry. it's really cool. all my favorite players are here. it's awesome. fans who've been to warriors games would recognize the warriors dance teams and hype man franco finn, who did what they do best. this is huge for our region in san francisco and the bay area beyond. i'm telling you, the world is watching us right now. the game was a who's who of local stars, including chef guy fieri,

education. smart. i love that. all the bay area will play a central role in two more major sporting events next year. as alyssa mentioned, both at levi stadium. super bowl 60 on february 8th, which airs on nbc bay area, and five group stage matches during the 2026 world cup. all right, we'll take a live look at the place everybody wants to be. san francisco this morning, resting aft a long weekend. oh, boy. i mean, that looked a little sketchy with the forecast or with the what? the weather was leading up to all star weekend. and then it cleared out just in time. yeah. so it's now staying fairly quiet as we go throughout the week. there's not a lot of major concerns that we have. as you're heading out this morning, we are seeing some clouds and it's been a little foggy in some spots. so just watching out for that as you're driving to work. otherwise it's going to become a sunny day. and midweek we will be watching out for a chance of showers, with the north bay seeing the highest chance of
