the next several days coming in as we are going to see warmer temperatures. here's a look at though, where we're starting. it's now down to 40 degrees in livermore and 37 in danville, so there are still some very chilly spots. it's 47 in san francisco, and we're seeing some low 40s for much of t theorth bay. as you're getting this tuesday started, a lot more people headed back to work. so expect more cars on the road. as we take a look at your morning drive in antioch, it's going to start out at 44 degrees and all clear and a mix of sun and clouds throughout the day. as our high temperatures head for the low 60s. it will be 64, in dublin and hayward, as well as oakland, and seeing some low 60s for san francisco and half moon bay. we'll talk more about the warm up on the next seven days in that forecast, as well as the rain. mike's been trying to save us a little bit of money at the gas pump. it's all relative because prices are coming up. i think they're getting ready to i think they're merging actually over toward that summer blend, whic is more expensive as well. we're going to start with the low of the day. we have the low

of the bay. in fact, castro valley 407 at united oil on castro valley boulevard, then on to the south bay. the south bay low is still in san jose, higher this week as we talked about 409 is the lowest. we have world gas on story road and then jumping up to the north bay. from the south bay we jump to 4.39 for marin county's low at set 76 on marinwood drive in san rafael. let's take a look at the roadways. we still have that one issue, mostly green sensors, but over in the east bay, as we look at the maps, you'll see the red standing out for getting off the castro valley y it's eastbound 580 at strawbridge. they had all lanes blocked for a few minutes. i've just learned we have three of your four lanes reopened. there is a rv on fire and propane tanks were involved in that fire. i think there was concern for safety sake. they stopped traffic. i believe they've cleared that incident as far as the additional risk. and so now we're down to one lane blocked on eastbound 580. it's reopened once again away from the castro valley y toward the dublin grade opposite direction as your commute. and it's standard out of the altamont. back to you. thank you mike 510

president trump has been flying around with a giant gulf of america map in his airborne office this morning. the government of mexico says it may sue google for changing the name on the map. at issue, trump's order only applies to the american sea shelf in the gulf, not mexican waters. the mexican government warning, quote, under no circumstance will mexico accept the renaming of a geographic zone within its own territory and under its jurisdiction. google maps in mexico still say gulf of mexico, but mexico's point is they have far more territorial waters than america does, and a country ought to be able, they say, to decide the name of its own waters. ask alexa about the gulf of mexico. she'll probably tell you about golfing. amazon's effort to make alexa smarter with ai will be delayed. this, according to the washington post. you know, someday this thing is going to understand what i love them. i have several because i play music throughout

5:18 am
a day to work, the highest in u.s. c cities. this is data from 2023. so that's just the average. about 38% of people in brentwood have a commute that is an hour or longer. meanwhile, in pittsburgh, the average is 41 minutes, in antioch, 40 minutes, san francisco 31 minutes. palo alto has the shortest average commute in the bay area, coming in at just under 20. i don't know where they're going because i don't know where you get in 20 minutes from palo alto next door. yeah, you stay in palo alto, right? well, happening today, napa leaders are expected to vote on a controversial plan to build a glamping resort along the silverado trail. developers. they have already provided renderings of the 12 acre resort, which would be called the grange campground. it would feature up to 100 high end trailers and tents, several permanent buildings there as well. opponents argue that it poses a fire risk. supporters say that it would provide an economic boost to that area. planners approved the project last fall. they can mitigate the

5:20 am
sunshine. rain comes in tomorrow, although not all of us will see that rain, but we are going to be tracking a little bit of wet weather before we have some warming ahead and the weekend. we'll see highs in the 60s and even some mid 70s. let's take a live look outside in san rafael as you're heading out. we haven't seen too many issues with fog and it's 45 degrees, so it is a cool start. as we go throughout the day, we'll see those temperatures going from mid 40s to mid 50s at 11:00 and then eventually making it into the mid 60s for this afternoon. so it will be a little bit warmer than yesterday and seeing a lot of mid 60s on the map here tomorrow. it's about the same, even though we'll see more clouds and that possibility of rain mainly hitting the north bay. so as we are going through the middle of the week, then we go back to sunshine and look at the boost. we'll see those temperatures with santa rosa and concord making it up to 68 degrees. so here's the next system that's coming in. it is already producing some light
5:21 am
rain across the pacific northwest, and will move through the bay area quickly as it arrives tomorrow morning. we're looking at that possibility of that rain coming in right at about 8 to 9:00 in the north bay, but notice how it kind of just falls apart as it moves through. so it's going to be kind of hit or miss with the north bay seeing the best chance of getting those morning shower, and then looking at our ten day temperatures for gilroy, we're going to be in the mid 60s for today and tomorrow. and then looking ahead, we have a lot of 70. so it's going to be a little taste of spring that we'll see lastg for several days into early next week. it'll be nice because we've had quite a bit of rain and cool weather, but things are about to change. and mike, you've got one main incident you're tracking and i was hoping for more change there, but i'll give you the updates here. this is over in the area off of san leandro into castro valley eastbound 580, unexpectedly slow. it's not closed. the sensors have not lit up again on the map. try to give it a little help, but we do have

now only two lanes blocked eastbound, 580 at around strawbridge. we had quite a bit of slowing built up light traffic and commute, but now we have just two lanes blocked and you should be fine coming through the area. just note a little slowing toward the dublin grade out of castro valley. meanwhile, a little slowing expected for highway 37 and at the bay bridge, a good easy drive right now. we'll expect the build over the next half hour. back to you. all right. thanks, mike. next on today in the bay nbc bay area responds. it's hardly a thank you for your service. a coast guardsman says a car company stuck him with an unexpected four figure bill. i'm consumer investigator. kris. camera.bc bay area n

that the metering lights are now active. yeah, they turn them on about the average time for a tuesday. so now we're just starting to see the beginnings of that backup forming in those middle lanes. and then it will push out to the outer lanes of the bay bridge. we know that keeps things moving smoothly on the span. there's some slowing for the volume, but that's standard. same thing for highway 37 and highway four. now we've really seen that shift and spread for the slower drive developing through concord and now in toward walnut creek. 242 right now showing the only signs still at speed on 680 down toward the interchange and continuing through the corridor and toward the tri-valley over here on no. as we continue to have the impact from some earlier flooding over here. highway 12 at 121. no, that's up here in santa rosa. still with the traffic control in the area. mind the routes. if they do make you go around any areas, we're over here where you can travel past the earlier car fire or rv fire, but two lanes are still blocked eastbound 580 at strawbridge off the castro valley y, opposite your main commute unexpectedly slow there the other direction westbound
5:42 am
should continue to see the build as we see slowing on the nimitz. the south bay shows that first slowing for 101 typical in san jose at this time. back to you. thanks, mike. we continue to celebrate black history month on today in the bay ahead, the local teacher getting recognized by one state leader. later. plus, i always knew this day would come. we were only supposed to be here two years. beloved skating rink in the south bay is set to close. we're going to tell you the reason they're being forced to make that move, and the steps the owners are taking to try to save the business. and america and russia talking face to face in person for the first time since the start of the war in ukraine. also a new homeless seen catching a lot of attention in the east bay. the price coming in under $400,000. but you know, there's a catch. there's always a catch. we'll tell you what that is when we
5:45 am
were for a lot of people right now at 545. and as we take a live look outside, heading across the richmond san rafael bridge, visibility is clear. temperatures are cool. we're in the low 40s right now. we'll see a mix of sun and clouds today, but a little bit warmer this afternoon compared to yesterday. we'll talk about even warmer temperatures ahead coming upn the microclimate forecast. see that volume building up out of richmond over here out of

oakland. we see the backup forming as more traffic heads toward that bay bridge, with the metering lights active right on schedule for this backup. i see slowing in the south bay as well. we'll sort things out coming up. a huge change in american policy. the u.s. talking to the russians so far, squeezing out ukraine and all of europe for that matter. they're out as well. good morning. ukraine has long said it cannot accept a peace deal if they're not there to make the deal. and our european allies are worried too. europe's given just as much money and weaponry to ukraine. the war is in its backyard. but only america and russia are meeting. i know this video is jerky and jocelyn moran. i kind of wanted to take you behind the scenes and read you as photographers are allowed so very briefly into the room where american and russian delegations are talking. america has repeatedly said no deal on ukraine without ukraine. president trump said that last week. ukraine not at the table. you just saw the russians on the

right, including foreign minister lavrov. americans on the left, marco rubio. there in the center bottom of the screen is the fellow with his head down. that is trump's special envoy to ukraine. for years now, the u.s. has refused to even speak to russian officials trying to isolate the country after its invasion of ukraine three years ago. in this sense, no matter what happens, the video you just saw is a huge win for russia. add to that the president's closest adviser. world's richest man elon musk, publicly praising russian officials. this is what competent leadership looks like, says the tesla ceo. huge win for saudi crown prince mohammed bin salman as well. just a few years ago, he was considered a pariah for his role in the murder of journalist jamal khashoggi. sitting with the secretary of state, mbs, as he's known, is a statesman. hosting the peace talks. and what is zelensky?
5:48 am
well, he's not there, he told the kyiv post. he thinks president trump wants a quick win, no matter the cost to ukraine, that a cease fire, he says that's not a win. the ceasefire in israel and gaza continues to hold. hamas released more hostages over the weekend. visiting u.s. senator lindsey graham warned israel and maybe his own u.s. government. they have got to have a better plan for palestinians in the arab world. israel's won the war on the ground, but they've lost it on television. you go anywhere in the arab world, and all they see is morning, noon and night. attacks on the palestinian people. my promise to the people of israel and to this region is not to give up. i am very optimistic. we will break through. and let me tell you why. there's no other solution. you can destroy hamas, and we will. but they will come back unless the palestinians have something to live for. and

israel has security to make sure there's no other. october 7th. back here at home, a group of cal university students have lost a court case that would have blocked elon musk's access to their private records through the education department. the judge in the case said they could not prove would be injured by that access. and the interim head of the social security administration has quit her job rather than allow musk to access americans private social security records. musk and his doge team say they are looking for evidence of fraud. musk also implying on social media the gold stored in fort knox may not be there. skirting very close to a right wing conspiracy shared online claiming the terrible flooding in kentucky was part of a plot to rob fort knox. all right, we'll follow that. thanks so much, scott. well, now to a live look in san francisco for you this morning. this is where later today, mayor daniel lurie will announce new steps in a

boost to return downtown nightlife. it follows steps taken last year to create new so-called entertainment zones. now, those allow for alcohol to be sold outdoors one time only for special events in specific areas. right now, the details on mayor lurie plan not known, but it is being billed as a means to spur more economic recovery. that news conference will take place in union square. february is national children's dental health month, and that's important to note even before they are eating solid foods. we talked with doctor scott smith, president of the american academy of pediatric dentistry, and he says the most powerful tool to combat tooth decay is creating good habits. what we like to do is start the kids early. and my routine was brush book in bed. if a small child wants to use a brush their own teeth, that's fine. use a fluoride free toothpaste that they can use in their own. but no book until mom or dad brush their teeth using a fluoride toothpaste and flossing. for

those concerned about how much fluoride for the little ones, doctor smith reminds us to start as the teeth are just coming in. he says to use only a dab of toothpaste half the size of a grain of rice to start because, you know, they swallow it. little turkeys. all right. all month long we are celebrating black heritage here on nbc bay area. state superintendent tony thurmond is among those celebrating an oakland community activist today. ora lee brown will be honored for her contributions to education. she is the founder of her own foundation that seeks to fund students college tuition. the superintendent will present brown with a proclamation in her honor at 1:00 this afternoon at brookfield elementary school in oakland. thank you, miss brown. absolutely. well, new for you this morning. the end of the line is almost here for a popular south bay roller skating rink. and the owners there are still hopeful about charting a new path. so san jose is aloha fun center started six years ago as a pop up and eastridge mall,
5:52 am
and it was only supposed to stick around for just a couple of months, but it actually proved to be so successful that the owner managed to extend her lease on a yearly basis until now. she says that the new closure date is set for march 23rd. i grew up roller skating at the original aloha roller palace that was on blossom hill, and it was such an immense part of my upbringing. it was where i spent every weekend. i was, you know, it was my social circle. it was where i had all my friends. it's, you know, i competed and i and i played roller derby. i learned how to fall and get back up. and this is kind of like falling and getting back up. we are losing our space, but we will get back up. she says that she is still looking for a possible new location, but she calls her deal with the mall a great experience for everyone involved. it's still not clear what business will reopen in that space, and for those trying to make it in the bay, there is a house. it's listed in the east bay. get this less than $400,000, but there
5:53 am
are a few issues. yeah, there's no such thing as a free puppy. the zillow listing shows the four bedroom, two bath home listed in berkeley in a highly desired neighborhood on rose street, but the house is apparently a money pit. it has not had any maintenance since 1974. the roof to the sunroom and the garage collapsed. the home is leaning off its foundation. the house also comes with an 83 year old tenant who gets to live there because of this contract, rent free for the rest of his life. we have learned that the property already has a sale pending at the listed price. i'm surprised it wasn't a bidding war. yeah. it probably was. we just don't know that yet. we know how the bay area thing goes, right? yes. breaking news. a house for $400,000. i mean, that is breaking news. my goodness. some places is like, wow, how big is it? yeah. it's like, wait, what? okay. well, if you're out house shopping today, let's get a look at our temperatures and highs
5:54 am
for later today. it's going to be nice. a lot of sunshine and temperatures. a little bit warmer compared to yesterday. tomorrow we're going to hold these temperatures about the same, but we may see a quick round of showers moving through by late morning. and then we're back to the sunshine on thursday with our temperatures warming up into the mid to upper 60, up to 68 degrees in santa rosa. now when we compare the 60 thatt we'll see today versus the single digits for highs that we're seeing across the midwest and even into parts of the south, we're seeing some really cold temperatures. it is definitely a tale of widely varying temperatures, as we've seen the arctic air plunging down across areas just to our east, while the west is enjoying a nice warm up, which will continue. but we've also been watching the flooding across the midwest over kentucky, and now some snow is coming down. so that's really going to cause a big, complicated effort there. and then looking at the bay area, all the clouds reaching in. and eventually we'll see that system coming in into the
5:55 am
bay area tomorrow morning bringing us some rain first starting in the north bay. and then as it works its way across the bay area, the rain just kind of falls apart. there may be some hit or miss showers before noon, but after that we're back to the sunshine and warmer temperatures. take a look at the end of the week. do you have outdoor plans this weekend? i know we have that lunar new year celebration on saturday and sunday. the black joy parade in oakland. so it's going to be beautiful with highs in the low 70s this weekend. mike, you've been watching a couple of issues for the commute. yeah, the south bay had this big burst of traffic. we expect that relatively short lived and expected here for 101 one. that will be an issue, perhaps, as they continue to work for the blue and green lines, for the light rail that's continuing on. you can just take the bus from nearby stations. just know that there may delay your routes on that transit system. 101 we talked about the burst of traffic that was there. it's starting to ease up. the second one should kick in at about 635 for the south bay. pretty
5:56 am
standard. same thing for the east bay. no surprises. still have the issue. eastbound 580 at strawbridge. back to you. all right. thanks, mike. well, happening now, riverside county sheriff chad bianco is announcing his run for governor in 2026. he is the first major republican to launch a campaign. bianco is an outspoken supporter of president trump. he is also blasting democratic policies for leading the rampant crime, a high cost of living, homelessness, the drug crisis and catastrophic fires, as well as more on the democratic side. candidates include assembly speaker antonio valadao, lieutenant governor eleni kounalakis, former senate president pro tem toni atkins, and former state controller betty yee, and state superintendent of public instruction tony thurmond. we continue to monitor breaking news out of the east bay this morning, where there was a large police investigation underway ahead at 6:00. we'll tell you the brand new details bob redell has dug up. plus, a plane
