for the last several weeks. elon musk gave a glimpse into what he and the doge team are focused on, and president trump talked on social security, medicare and medicaid for free for you. i love the president. i want to be clear about that. a month into presidentt trump's second term n the white house, he and elon musk sat down for an interview with fox news. i wanted somebody really smart to work with me in terms of the country, a very important aspect, because, i mean, he doesn't talk about it. he's actually a very good businessman. in the last month, president trump has signed a number of executive orders, including directing the department of government efficiency, better known as doge, be established within the executive office of the president. the department, led by musk, is tasked with slashing federal spending. it's making headlines nightly and is already at the center of legal proceedings, questioning the scope of doj's access. musk tonight saying one of the biggest functions of doge is ensuring that president trump's executive actions are carried out. if the will of the president is not implemented and

the president is representative of the people, that means the will of the people is not being implemented. as they work to slash the size of the government, mass layoffs are being carried out. nbc news reports the administration is aiming to cut up to 10% of the federal workforce. that being said, federal employee compensation makes up less than 7% of the overall budget. so even mass firings are unlikely to have major impact on the government's budget. we're just not as good as they are. but it's not just layoffs. tonight we got a clear picture of what the doge team says. it's looking for fraud and corruption that can be eliminated. you know, we have contracts that go forever, and they've been going for years, and they're supposed to end in three months or five months or two years or something, and they go forever. so the guy is either crooked, you know, where he knew this was going to happen, or he's crooked because he's getting payments that he knows he shouldn't be getting. no specific contracts were discussed tonight, but a lot of talk about cuts and also departments and services that won't be touched. social

make cuts statewide. that's even at campuses like san jose state, where enrollment is actually up. san jose state has already slashed about $58 million from its budget over the last two years, and expects more cuts. we have not filled unfilled positions. we have cut back on sections of specific classes. we have eliminated some programs in which there weren't a lot of students. other campuses have taken more drastic measures. that includes sonoma state university, which announced it's shutting down its entire sports program. leaders behind a controversial bike lane project in san francisco are now back pedaling. the bike lanes down valencia street in the mission district are coming down. program meant to create an innovative path for bikers to share the road. but it's had backlash from business owners and cyclists. bike lanes will now be next to the sidewalk, which means businesses will have to redesign those parklets. are we ready for a flying car? we've been reporting on a san mateo
