2023. why do you show up and respond here? >> we're a part of our nation's promise to the public to respond to wildfire emergencies. >> reporter: that promise might be getting harder to keep. as president trump's hiring freeze has thousands of federal seasonal firefighters in limbo at a time when on boarding for the next fire season should have already started. so by the time you made it here, this house was up in flames? >> it was in the process of burning down. i had firefighters who have should be bringing on and i'm not able to. >> why are you thinking about hiring firefighters right now? >> yeah, this is the time of year where we're training, getting the qualifications that we need to answer the call to service when the summer comes. >> reporter: they employ more than 15,000 career and temporary firefighters. proof from the forrester this was credited with saving this neighborhood during the eaton fire in los angeles county.

it was a federal crew, like the one mcclain's a part of, where any delay in the on boarding process can effect the readiness of the team. is there a message you want, whether it's president trump or other people to hear and to understand about what you see as the urgency at this moment? >> i would like to ask the firefighters what they think, because we don't have any skin in this game other than public service. >> reporter: over a dozen u.s. senators have called for firefighters to be excepted. pausing the -- exempted. pausing the hiring of firefighters is simply irresponsible and dangerous. >> wildfire transcends politics, and it's the right thing to do, to bring on firefighters and ensure that the public is getting the service that they deserve and that they pay for. >> reporter: even as the snow falls and alarms sounding about fires to come. rapper a$ap rocky has been found not guilty in his felony

12:42 pm
recovered the firearm, they just had images on video. >> what about the man who made the allegations against a$ap rocky in the first place, could he now sue him for civil penalties? >> in theory, yes. practically, probably not. he may find some attorney who is willing to take a shot because a$ap rocky has a lot of money and can pay a judgment. but it's going to be really difficult given that this witness likely was cross examined to some degree at trial, so his credibility may have been challenged. and also the notion that the defendant was already acquitted using a higher burden of proof, it doesn't foreclose a civil lawsuit, but it makes it harder. but o.j. simpson was acquitted and later found villy libel. so it is possible. >> time will tell. danny, thanks so much. getting along with a former spouse can be a challenge, let alone if children are involved. we're going to talk about how to make co-parenting work for
12:46 pm
we are talking about co-parenting today. communicating with an ex-partner can be challenging, especially if you have a contentious relationship. >> successful co-parenting is possible, and our next guest says the key is to prioritize the children. joining us now is christina mcgee, a divorced parenting expert. perfect person to talk to. thanks for being here. if someone is recently divorced or they've been co-parenting, what is the biggest thing to keep in mind when we just said the children, i guess, but -- >> absolutely, which is always easier said than done. like there's a lot of simple strategies, but not so easy to implement. i think it's important to raise balanced kids.ed parents
12:47 pm
kids are going to be following our lead, and if we want our kids to get through this well, emotionally healthy and well adjusted, then they're going to need grounded parents that are showing up in those tough and challenging moments. >> and divorce and separation happens for a lot of reasons. i imagine a divorced couple might encounter different parenting styles. >> oh, yeah. >> how do you navigate that, communicate through that without letting it affect the child? >> i think you need to remember that different doesn't have to be devastating. good co-parenting isn't about being in sync, chapter and verse and doing everything alike. the truth is, there were probably differences when you were a couple, and those don't disappear when you get divorced. so keep that in mind that differences aren't necessarily bad, and how we navigate them will make a big impact in how our children are able to navigate them. >> got some tips on the screen there, how to handle when you have those disagreements, perspective and common ground.
