five, president donald trump signs a new order calling for
5:01 am
the elimination of the agency overseeing one of san francisco's most iconic parks, presidio trust. ahead, we are live with more on mr. trump's plan to try and all new reaction to his move. also, a late night ruling on trump's executive order aimed at ending birthright citizenship. the changes now coming to federal benefits for unauthorized immigrants. plus, back on the picket line, today marks day two of the strike for east bay court workers. more on their demands and the reason administrators are pushing back against their claims. this is today in the bay. good morning to you. on this thursday, i'm marcus washington and i'm laura garcia. we'll have a check on that morning commute with mike inouye in just a moment. but first we say good morning to meteorologist kari hall. a look at our forecast. yeah. it's going to be a really nice day. we had a little bit of rain in parts of the bay area yesterday, but we're waking up to some clouds, some fog in some spots, and temperatures in the upper
5:02 am
40s for palo alto, 49 for san jose, and in walnut creek it's 44 degrees. all seeing a calm wind with the exception of the south bay. and then we take a look at our high temperatures, which will be a couple of degrees above what we had yesterday. we are going to e a high of 66 in san jose and 68 in martinez, concord and fairfield, as well as 68 in napa and santa rosa. continue that warming trend tomorrow. take a look at those highs that we'll see on friday. still really nice and a lot of sunshine and a few spots making it into the low 70s. so we'll get a closer look at this and the weekend in just a few minutes. mike has a look now at the golden gate bridge. kari there was no traffic going on for a few minutes here, i saw. there you go, 1 or 2 vehicles going northbound. now, this is about the time when the pick up part of the cruise to the north side of the bridge. but from the grid. look, it looks like all the crews on both sides have cleared in the last few minutes, so there may be some traffic breaks going on temporarily. that might be what we're seeing.
5:03 am
i'll keep an eye on things. there's no reports of any problems on the golden gate bridge north of there. everything moves nicely. same thing across the bay, through contra costa, county down to the south bay. no delays. the only thing other than green sensors. we see typical out of the altamont pass. westbound 580 coming into the area. no delays there. or for vasco road out of contra costa county as well. back to you. thanks, mike. well, this morning, president trump's administration taking an aim at federal funded entities, it calls, quote, federal waste and abuse. the local presidio trust, which is entrusted to keep a historic national landmark, is now among those on the chopping block. today in the bay's ginger conejero saab joins us live in san francisco this morning with more on president trump's plans. good morning ginger. good morning, laura and marcus. president trump has issued an executive order to eliminate the presidio trust. now that trust is responsible for running and preserving san francisco's presidio national park. so it's important to understand here
5:04 am
that the presidio trust works in partnership with the national park service and the parks conservancy. together, they maintain and operate the 1500 acre park, which has been a national historic landmark since 1962. the trust was created by congress in 1996. now, there are four federally funded entities that are targeted by trump's executive order. as part of its commencing the reduction of federal bureaucracy executive order. they are the presidio trust, the inter-american foundation, the united states african development foundation, and the united states institute of peace. according to the order, the presidio trust should be eliminated because it's unnecessary now in 2023. former speaker nancy pelosi announced that $200 million from the federal government would be heading to the presidio. in a statement, congresswoman pelosi said that in 1996, the presidio trust act was passed in a
5:05 am
bipartisan way when republicans held the majority in congress and has retained bipartisan support ever since. now, she goes on to say, in part, the presidio trust is statutory. it has been protected from assaults over time by its statutory strength. a spokesperson for the trust has also reportedly previously said that that those hundreds of millions of dollars have already been allocated. this is something that we will closely watch, laura, because laura and marcus, because the head of the presidio trust is expected to issue some sort of report to the office of budget and management within the next 14 days, and then we'll see how this moves forward. for now, we're live in san francisco, ginger conejero saab. today in the bay, certainly one we'll continue to follow. thank you. ginger. well, in another new executive order, president trump is ending access to federal benefits for unauthorized immigrants. the white house says that order will end all taxpayer funded benefits. it's still too soon to know which benefits will
5:06 am
be targeted. that move comes in the wake of a new white house legal setback to end birthright citizenship. the ninth circuit late yesterday denied the justice department's bid to reinstate the president's order, which was signed on his first day in office. judges suggested that trump administration attorneys did not sufficiently show that they could successfully win that appeal. the case will likely end up in the u.s. supreme court. many are protesting the cuts and policy changes by the trump administration. itkin george solis. the corner of van ness and o'farrell in san francisco was taken over by federal workers and allies last night. this was the scene outside of a tesla store. and last month, president trump has signed a number of executive orders, including directing the department of government efficiency, better known as doge, to be established within the executive office of the president. the department, led by elon musk, is tasked with slashing federal spending. those folks have families. they are

important to the community. they are like lots of women, lots of people of color whoave these jobs and the community depends on them. i think what we're seeing here is the sort of the thrashing of the bureaucracy as we try to restore democracy and the will of the people, according to congressional sources. this all comes as doge employees are working inside the pentagon eyeing staffing cuts. turning now to the latest in gaza. hamas overnight released the bodies of four israeli hostages, among them what is believed to be the remains of two of the youngest captives seized in that attack, which started the israel-hamas war. one was just two years old. the other five. their mother's body was is believed to be among the victims bodies placed in the casket. their father was released from captivity february 1st. israel says that the bodies needed to go under undergo forensic testing before authorities can confirm their identities. a man who was 15

5:09 am
or delay trials system wide once again. let's take a break from the day's news and take a nice, refreshing look outside this morning overlooking downtown san jose. kari got a look at our temperatures for today. no rain in sight. no rain in sight for quite a while. and it looks like where we do see the rain. it's just to the north or just to the east. so, yeah, they're over there. over as we go into the weekend and into early next week. so we are going to have a nice quiet pattern as we go into the next several days. just watch out for the patches of fog that we're seeing here and there as you're driving to work, and it will be breezy in the hills for later today and a spring-like weekend ahead as our temperatures warm up way above what we've seen recently. so we are going to see a high of or starting out this morning in the mid 40s in martinez and 47 in san rafael. it's 50 in san francisco. but then as we take a look at the trend in palo alto, we start out with a clear sky. it's in the upper 40s now and then gradually warming up. we'll
5:10 am
already be at 60 degrees at noon as we make it into the mid 60s here, and it will be a little bit warmer than yesterday, up to 64 in livermore as well as 68 in ukiah. so we'll talk more about this in the weekend forecast. mike filling up at the pump. any savings today? you know, at least i found savings of my own work a little bit. i typed the same number three times on this board here. our best price listed in alameda county is in fremont for 29 at vargas on grimmer boulevard. and though in the south bay there are some better prices in san jose. decided to check another city in mountain view, the next lowest at 4.29. diamond gas and mart on east evelyn avenue. for the clean sweep, we got our last check in san francisco for 29 is the best in the city and in the county. arco on fell street again for 29. you can check to see if you have numbers. hopefully they're a little bit little bit higher. gasbuddy.com will check for you on the roadways. we're looking at green sensors throughout the bay. no major issues right now. we'll
5:11 am
zoom in and show you outside of the altamont pass on the far right. we have a smooth drive at speed all the way through the dublin interchange and over toward 880 off the castro valley. y and 238 without any major delays. it's only 510. things are just starting to wake up here. golden gate bridge, we have had traffic restored. i've seen lights coming from the marin side and out of the robin williams tunnel. there you go with those headlights. so traffic is restored from the earlier breaks. i believe they were just moving some crews. back to you. all right. thanks so much. well, thousands of irs employees are set to be let go today. still ahead here on today in the bay, we're going to talk about the impacts this could have on your tax filings and returns. you heard marcus and laura talking about defense cuts. those are already having real world effects right here in silicon valley out to the futures this morning. see what wall street thinks. looks like it's going to be a rougher day. and we're also marking ten years since the dress went viral. remember this one. you remember it, right? yes. blue and black or white and gold. well, we took take a look back at the phenomenon and the debate that
5:12 am
is still raging. much more news ahead. you're watcnghi

5:14 am
thursday morning we are waking up to some chilly temperatures, and as we take a look at what to expect in gilroy, it will be in the upper 40s at 6:00 and a few clouds early, maybe even some patches of fog if you're driving around. but then we'll see temperatures warming up and headed for the mid 60s today. we
5:15 am
do have some more really comfortable temperatures for those afternoons. more ahead in the micrcroclimate forecast. and in fremont, we're looking at the nimitz clear view of the clear drive southbound with the headlights northbound, those tail lights heading up toward auto mall parkway without delay. we'll show you the bigger build to see where some sensors might be changing. should be changing. coming up. well good morning. very happy thursday to you. we got a chance to look over the fed minutes. the notes that they publish after their interest rate meetings. and it's clear interest rates are not coming down any time soon. apple launched a version of its lower cost iphone, a new version. shares in palantir. lookt this cratered on the news of big defense cuts. defense secretary hegseth sent out a memo. he wants an 8% cut in defense by monday that first reported by the new york times. palantir is a data company that helps the pentagon and american intelligence analyze information

5:19 am
right. well, turning now to the real throwback thursday story. this morning marks a decade since one fashion statement divided the nation. ten years ago, this poorly lit picture of a dress really had people on the internet talking, typing, weighing in. the debate was whether the dress was black and blue or white and gold. buzzfeed turned it into a poll that highlighted the differing opinions. and this morning, the website's community manager, who first found the photo and posted it on the website, is opening up about how it all happened. i turned to my colleagues and just said, hey guys, what color is this dress? within five minutes, there were 20 people behind my desk just screaming at each other. and i figured if we were yelling about it, maybe the rest of the internet would. in case you were wondering, the poll on buzzfeed is still up. a decade later, we checked in. 2.5 million people are siding with white and gold. 1.2 million, meantime, say it's black and blue. i feel like it. i saw both in some of those photos we were showing. it's all the angles and
5:20 am
color lighting. i'm just glad that she introduced so much discord to the internet, because it's usually such a peaceful place. i was like back in the day when that was all we had to deal about. right. all right. well, at least we're not debating that the weather is going to be great as we head into the weekend. we are going to see some mostly sunny skies, and our mornings will be cool. but it's february, so we're starting out at 43 in fremont. now it's 44 in sonoma, and it's 50 as you head out in san francisco. let's get a look at santa rosa and what you can expect today. 45 degrees as you're heading out. and it may cool down another couple of degrees before sunrise. and then as we go throughout the day, a gradual warm up as we make it to the low 60s at noon, and then make it up to a high of 68 for later today. we'll be 66 in oakland today for a maximum temperature will max out at 66 in san jose, 64 in palo alto and in san francisco. and then
5:21 am
looking at tomorrow's forecast, it's about the same, but there may be a few spots a little bit warmer. and we continue on that warming trend into the weekend. we are going to see some 70 on the map here, even up to 75 in gilroy and the north bay holding the same with highs in the upper 60s. looking at that and comparing the pole, the cold plunge of air that's been dipping really far south. yes, these are the high temperatures today as you look at the screen and maybe point out a spot where you know someone lives. it's only going to be 23 degrees in chicago for the high temperature today. and even dallas is staying below freezing all day. and then looking at what's ahead and when we may see some rain again. there will be some showers just to our north, and then the storm systems just miss out on the bay area, but there will be a slight chance of rain on tuesday, but no major storms coming in for at least the next week. and the ones that we do
5:22 am
see across the bay area just kind of fall apart before making it in. so we'll be watching out for those slight rain chances. otherwise, we will enjoy a nice weekend and high temperatures in the low 70, which looks to continue at least into the middle of next week. mike, you have a look at what's happening in the north bay. yeah, we'll take with a live look. first of all, in san rafael southbound is the commute direction past north san pedro road, down over the hill toward lincoln and no problems. we're just starting to build up that volume just a bit, and it doesn't really show up on the sensors. we just see green all the way from novato down across the golden gate bridge. again, after those crews cleared and their traffic restored across the span. there's the north bay slowing, we expect through vallejo, heading west on highway 37 across mare island and the bridge there, a smooth drive across the cardenas benicia bridge from the north bay into contra costa county. and well, there we go, suddenly slowing on highway four. so that started already. that's a little earlier than monday. so obviously monday holiday. but tuesday and wednesday saw about this time with a little build. so we're showing a smooth flow
5:23 am
of traffic down to the walnut creek interchange. and we'll see if that's an early trend for contra costa county, or if it's just a temporary thing for the last few minutes over in the south bay and peninsula. no delays. standard, back to you. thanks, mike. 522. right now we're continuing to celebrate black heritage all month long. ahead, we introduce you to a meteorologist whose new book is helping kids understand changing weather patterns through music. keep it here. you're

in the bay. this black heritage month, we are celebrating a meteorologist and a children's book author, brittany schiff, from our sister station in philadelphia. brittany is a stem advocate for young students, and she is celebrating the release of her new book about weather. it's called drippity drop the rapping raindrop and it's teaching kids about rain, snow and storm safety through rhymes, music and dancing. brittany released her first book in 2016, when she was when s she said she wasn't finding the right book at the book store to bring to school visits, and it was important for her to help kids see themselves in what they read. growing up, i didn't see many meteorologists that looked like me or you. and i wanted them to have a book that they could reference and know, hey, this is what a meteorologist looks like. this is what a scientist looks like, and i want everyone to feel confident that they can pursue education in
5:27 am
stem. if you take a look at some of the numbers, especially when it comes to girls pursuing stem careers, they lose confidence when they get to junior high school. and that's just looking at gender. if we start to look at race and diversity, the numbers go down even more. so representation is so important. i believe if children can see it, then they can believe it and they will have the confidence to pursue it. and no matter your age or background, brittany adds that if you have a dream, keep pursuing it. you never know what may happen and you can learn more about about brittany's books and also the new sing along that you can play for kids. we're going to put a link up on our website, nbcbayarea.com, where there you can discover more black heritage stories. i love that. thanks so much kari. 526 for you right now. next, here are the top stories we're following today, including the ongoing search for the chief of police in the east bay. the community meeting. the antioch police department is holding all as the city grapples with crime. and a lot of

5:32 am
view in san francisco. we've seen some fog drifting around parts of the east bay and north bay, but it clears out today and will be breezy in the hills with a spring-like weekend on the way. let's check out brentwood. starting out with some upper 40s sunshine throughout the day and a high of about 66 degrees. we'll get there at about 4:00, but seeing those temperatures dropping quickly after sunset and looking at all of our high temperatures, which will be a few degrees warmer than yesterday. 66 in san jose, 68 in fairfield and 68 today in napa. we'll talk about the weekend in a few minutes and a lot of events going on, too. but, mike, you have a quick check at the bay bridge toll plaza. right now things are moving smoothly. the volume builds up, and by the next report, we'll probably start to see some backup here. let's look at the maps though. approaching the bay bridge. no major issues. i put a little arrow showing the slowdown as the lanes narrow up the incline. top of the screen. highway 37. and along highway four. they're slowing through. concord. kari talks about the fog, and it may register on the roadway, although it's not showing on our road. weather index along

highway four, there are patches we've been warned about by chp. that yellow the mustard colored blob right there in the tri-valley. that's where we're registering a little more fog. so that will be a factor for folks traveling through the dublin interchange south through pleasanton and into sunol, but no delays as far as those sensors go. back to you. thanks, mike. workers in alameda county are extending their one day strike into a second day today in the bay's bob redell. joing us live from outside the hayward hall of justice. and, bob, it seems like we can expect more of that disisruption inside the cot as well today. so did they talk about why they decided to extend this strike? they did. good morning to you, marcus and laura. in a statement yesteay, the union that represents alameda county superior court workers says they are extending what was supposed to be a one day strike into today, the second day, because, in their words, quote, court management still isn't hearing what they have to say. this was the scene yesterday. hundreds of court workers here in alameda county. that includes the courtroom clerks. they walked off the job and they picketed outside
5:34 am
courthouses here in alameda county, alameda county, including the hayward hall of justice behind me. the one day strike shut down courtrooms and disrupted the processing of court filings and other documents. the workers union has been negotiating for a new contract since before their last one expired this past december. workers say they're understaffed and overworked. they say new hires aren't trained adequately and say they aren't paid enough. portola is an issue. i mean, we live in the bay area. the cost of living folks can't afford eggs, folks can't afford gas. so cost of living is always an issue. but more importantly, some of our huge issues centered more around training. well, basically getting poorer every year. no cost of living, but the inflation is still going up and our pay is not going up. a spokesperson for superior court says training and staffing have not been the union's focus during negotiations, and at the
5:35 am
courts have done their best to retain workers in the face of an annual budget cut of nearly $4.5 million, adding that the judicial council of california crunched the numbers and, quote, based on the current caseload at the superior court of alameda county, our court is overstaffed by more than 100 employees. the union disputes that figure. the court told us yesterday that if there is a civil or criminal case that can be delayed or postponed, it will be. but if there is a strict deadline mandated by law, then the case will proceed with the help of managers or workers who aren't represented by the union on strike. and we could assume that that would be the same today. assuming that this one day, second day strike takes place. we know that yesterday, many people with business before their court, especially here in hayward, including attorneys and their clients, they were turned away and they were going to have to be rescheduled. a spokesperson for the court says anyone with jury duty notices or pending cases should still proceed as scheduled, unless
5:36 am
you're notified by the courts otherwise. reporting live here outside the hayward hall of justice. bob redell today in the bay. all right, bob, thank you. well, san francisco leaders this morning still trying to comprehend the latest executive order from president trump calling to eliminate presidio trust. now, in his order issued late last night, refers to the trust as unnecessary. and that trust established back in 1996 to run and protect the park. shortly after, the government handed control over to federal park service. former house speaker nancy pelosi issued a statement vowing to carefully review the language of the order. our ginger conejero saab is following those developments this morning. she'll have a live report for us in our next half hour. it is 535. happening today in antioch. people who live there can provide feedback in the search for a new police chief. city leaders tonight will hold a community meeting designed to learn more about what people believe should be the most important qualities and experience when it comes to leading the department. a public forum is taking place at 630

for you this morning out of vallejo, where district leaders have finalized their plans to close schools. board members last night voted to close mare island health and fitness academy and loma vista environmental science academy. neither will reopen next fall. also, vallejo charter school will be relocated to the mare island campus. the district, facing a $36 million budget deficit. the board also approved other cuts amounting to nearly $13 million. more employers are calling people back to work in person, and that means childcare needs to needs to evolve. that's right. two south bay cities are actually putting money towards connecting families with quality child care. that could help move the bay area's economy forward. today in the bay's kris sanchez joins us with a look at the impact on families, providers and even the larger ecomy here, too. well, you know, we don't have to tell you families cannot get back to work if there's no one to take care of the kids. and the availability
5:39 am
of care is one part of the equation. cost is the other. in silicon valley, child care for one infant runs a family more than $36,000 a year, nearly 68,000 for families with an infant and a preschooler. nearly 90,000 for a family with a baby, a preschooler and a school aged kid. now, one way to bring down the cost is to make more care available. and that's why the city of san jose and the city of palo alto have invested in the child care network upwards. that companies boost program helps providers grow their businesses so they can maximize how many children they can care for. and the platform then also helps to streamline how they run their business, so that they don't have to focus so much on that part. they have more time to focus on the kids, which is usually what they love to do. families can use upwards for free to connect with available daycares, nannies or babysitters. who upwards monitors beyond state licensing.
5:40 am
we need child care providers. they are the backbone of the san jose community. if we don't have child care providers to care for the children, then families can't return to work. that's a massive impact on the economy. so providing this essential care, this really empowers families and that drives the economy. now, according to the child advocacy agency california for quality, childcare boosts workforce participation and allows parents to be more productive. reliable care also means lower turnover for companies and more early childhood development for the kids. but there are 700 fewer daycare facilities in san jose than ten years ago, which is why the city is investing $1 million in that upwards boost program, which will help especially low income families. the goal is to help providers restart their businesses if they close during the pandemic or expand their businesses. palo alto has invested $234,000 over the last two years, and something they're doing new is providing free care

for military familiess who hav to go to their trainings. and we could have used this a couple of years ago. they provide they help connect with caregivers that work overnights, weekends because some people have strange you know, exactly, exactly. and so like nurses, firefighters, us you know, the folks who pick up the recycling and the garbage. i mean, think about it. it's really the overnight workers that you see. and not everybody has family around. i didn't it was tough. and sometimes they have their own families. they're like, i don't need two more kids. three more kids. yeah, yeah. sometimes i was like, hey, mr. mailman, can you holold this baby? yeah. marcus was very popular. okay? they're not mine. that's really interesting story. yeah, it's nice that they're investing in it, and it really does help the bigger economy. we need. we need labor, right? yeah. and so if we can get people to work without worrying about it, i was just going to say to be rest assured, you can focus on work when you know your children are in good hands upwards. .com. there you go. check it out. all right. thank you very much. kind of glad i'm

past the baby stage right now. you know, it was very expensive. although teenagers are expensive too. that's true. let's move on with a look at the golden gate bridge. yeah, nice and clear for us this morning. that's one thing we do know. talking about kids. kari. i'm out. i thought you were babysitting this weekend. yeah. okay. uncle marcus wanted to, you know, participate in all the activities going on. if you're packing a bag, we are going to have some nice weather. if you're going to sacramento for the warriors and the kings game, it's going to be in the upper 50s at the time that we do see tip off. and if you're just enjoying some time enjoying some restaurants, it's going to be chilly. so make sure you do have a nice warm jacket. here's a look at the lunar new year parade. so it starts out at 10:00 in the morning in oakland, and it's going to be 55 degrees, a mix of sun and clouds and a nice and mild day. as we go throughout the afternoon. it warms up into the low 60s. and then on sunday, also in oakland, we have the black joy parade and festival. you'll see me out

there on the floats for nbc and comcast, and we are going to see temperatures starting out at about 60 degrees and making it up to 64. it's going to be really comfortable. so we'll get a look at our weekend forecast and what's ahead coming up in a few minutesbut mike, now you're seeing the bay bridge backing up just like we talked about kari. you probably see it by the time we took the next report. there we go. filling in from the middle out. typical pattern. typical timing, no surprises through the maze or approaching contra costa county, we have highway four continuing the big slow down through pittsburg bay point and into concord. there are no incidents going on. there may be some activity, but i don't see it on the grid, so we'll just say it's the build highway 37 holding steady there. the rest of the east bay looking good. we had fog registering right here around the dublin interchange. looks like it may have been receding, but again floating around. so that's the note for the morning at least there. and then the evening a note here. you may find some slowing over tonight and then through the rest of the weekend. we do have a disney on ice show, magic in the stars at 630, so there may
5:44 am
be some crowds and some slower approaches toward the off ramps for those families unfamiliar with the area. meanwhile, getting down to the south bay predictable as well. northbound 101 slowing right on schedule for our first burst of traffic. it's 543, so we see more headlights, and that should thin out over the next five, possibly ten minutes. those flashing lights on the southbound side, i'll let you know, but it doesn't seem like anything to alert you about. back to you. thank you. mike. well, it is 543 for you this morning. a bold theft caught on camera. coming up this morning on today in the bay. we're going to show you the thieves targeted a newly opened restaurant and then come back for second. bitter taste is leaving in the mouth of those owners. president trump says he's thinking about the idea of sharing doj's savings with americans. how much it would mean for you coming up. also, overhauling the ustr's playbook when it comes to global travel. new calls from within the industry. with some major international srting events poon

the bay bridge getting across the bay on the richmond bridge. here's a nice volume of traffic. no backup, but the volume is going up. there should be some slowing showing up through richmond. coming up pretty soon. thanks so much, kari and mike. it's 547 right now. president trump published a post on truth social about ukraine, but it was had a lot of errors in it. scott mcgrew is here with us this morning. and, scott, that post shocked allies there in europe and no doubt ukraine. oh, and no doubt it really is worth talking about for quite a bit. it's the clearest indication trump does not support the fight against the russians in ukraine. in fact, the truth social post repeats some of the russian talking points. trump earlier this week blamed the war on ukraine. though ukraine didn't start the war, russia did by invading. the truth social post is a long one, so i'm not going to read the whole thing out loud. but the key points are trump calls the ukrainian president zelensky a dictator, says he's unpopular with his
5:49 am
people. says once again, ukraine started the war. that's a lie. and says zelensky will not allow elections. now we can take that point by point. zelenskyy is not a dictator. he was democratically elected in free and fair elections. a kyiv university poll puts zelensky's approval at 57%. gallup puts our president's approval at 48%. ukraine didn't start the war. that one is just silly. and then ukraine has not had new elections because ukrainian law prohibits electioionsuring wartime. a law put into place before zelensky was a politician. uk didn't have elections during the second world war either. the white house published a fake time magazine saying long live the king, repeating sething that trump had said on social media as he stepped into the debate over congestion pricing in new york city. joking about a king in america is fraught as far as
5:50 am
we can find. only abraham lincoln once joked he should be king, but the joke was at his own expense that kings were incompetent. critics of andrew jackson and fdr called them kings in a derisive way. it was meant to be an insult. president trump's push to overturn the constitutional right to birthright citizenship was blocked again in court, this time by a three judge appellate panel. now, the next step is to either go to the full appellate court that's called en banc or the supreme court. president trump floated the idea of sharing savings dodge fines with the american people. we've talked about this before. the amount of money that dodge claims to have saved, and the amount of money it can prove it saved are miles apart. here's the president, and there's even under consideration a new concept where we give 20% of the dodge savings to american citizens, and 20% goes to paying down debt, because the numbers are incredible. now, using using

dodge's numbers, which again appear to be badly inflated, it would work out to $11 a person. according to calculations made by the washington post. the president says he'd like to use some of those savings to build an iron dome over america, a missile defense system similar to the israelis. israel, of course, about the size of new jersey. older viewers remember president reagan wanted a similar defense system, a sign of the times. the media called it the star wars plan. new defense secretary pete hegseth has told the us military and pentagon leadership to find 8% cuts and have that list to him by monday, first reported in the new york times, and then another 8% next year and the next for the next five years. those cuts have effects in the bay area. we'll talk about that as we talk business in about 30 minutes. and then finally, and quite briefly, the vote to confirm president trump's nominee to run the fbi, kash patel goes before the senate markets this morning. all right, scott thank you.

5:56 am
continuing to weaken as it moves in. so there's only very slight rain chances next week. and the storm systems that we do see approaching the bay area are just falling apart before they get here. so i'm not seeing anything significant in the next 7 to 10 days. livermore will see those high temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70, and that's about what we can expect for many of our inland valleys with a mix of sun and clouds. mike, you've been watching the commute starting to pick up. yeah, it's starting to pick up in a weird pattern here at the bay bridge, though. we had the early backup showing and it was spreading from those middle lanes, and it kind of cleared in the last couple of minutes. starting to restore once again, no incidents reported on the maze or getting to the area. a little slowing toward the berley curve, but i have had an issue with those sensors this morning. i'm going to double check to make sure that's valid. i don't think it's actually that slow there. we have a good deal of slowing for highway four continuing there. and also we talked about the fog. here are some low clouds i can see from our camera in walnut creek. and the build for south 680 coming down to 24.
