grows more uneasy about the economy. meta, the parent company of facebook, has filed financial papers showing it wants to give executives big bonuses as much as 200% of their salaries. you remember this comes right after facebook announced it was cutting 4000 workers. the executives eligible for bonus will not include founder mark zuckerberg. citi, the latest company to get rid of its dei programs. they're going to call it talent development from here on out, and it will not include things like tracking the makeup of its workforce. several reports say president trump is considering firing the board that runs the u.s. post office and folding the post office into the commerce department. right now, the post office is quasi independent. it does not get any federal funds. it has to earn its money from postage. but it also guarantees six day a week delivery to any address in the united states. not clear what trump's plans

would be, but a lot of rural communities depend on the post office. it's a big e-commerce component. two companies like amazon pay the post office to deliver that last mile. elon musk has been put in place in charge of cutting costs, has his eye on nasa. in a series of posts on social media, musk has suggested shutting down the international space station. now, that was already on the schedule for 2030. musk says we should do it now. his space x already has the contract to do it. there are also serious questions about nasa's artemis mission to the moon. it's behind schedule over budget, largely because of problems with the launch vehicle made by boeing. musk was a big hit at the conservative cpac this week. now, as musk suggests, all these cuts. keep in mind he himself is a government contractor and boeing is his biggest competitor at spacex. he's also cutting workers at the federal department of transportation.
6:15 am
washington post says the team at transportation that regulates self-driving cars and tracks crashes has been cut in half. so in many cases, the regulators of his companies are also targets of cuts. all right. thanks, scott. you bet. well, new at 6:00. one bear appears to be making himself a little too comfortable in southern california. this is in the altadena burn scar area. people who live there say he's taking refuge beneath a damaged pasadena home. now, fish and wildlife rangers are working on removing it from the home's crawl space. ever since the fire, many animals have migrated into more urban areas. but this bear is apparently becoming all too familiar with neighbors who say he's been known to pull up and scavenge through trash cans. it's been there for a couple of months already, so we're friends now. he kind of makes his rounds just on the neck of the woods.
6:16 am
for now, wildlife workers will not be removing the bear. instead, the plan calls for the homeowner to wait for it to emerge again and then use newly installed sprinklers to try to keep it away until the crawl space can be boarded up. yeah, not the guess that i was hoping to come over. that's a big bear. if he could do some construction, then maybe we could talk about something. yeah. no kidding. oh, wow. all right, let's talk about this next story. so happening for you this weekend. one more major bay area parade will welcome in the year of the snake. organizers in oakland's chinatown promise it is bigger and better, with more to do after the parade as well. that route for tomorrow's san leandro and oakland chinatown parade will be expanded this year, and it starts at wilma chan park on ninth street at 10 a.m. it goes through chinatown and then on to webster and then back down 10th street. extra officers will be on hand, and the city is anticipating about

15,000 people to take part in that parade. nice weather for it too, that it will be. may have to head out there. all right. well, look. also this. turning now to a time to celebrate all things suds and hops. yes, san francisco's beer week kicking off today. i'm not a beer drinker. you didn't read that like you're a big beer drinker. i don't even like beer. well, the celebration boasts itself as the biggest celebration of craft beer. the hops events include tomorrow's first ever beer fest at salesforce park in the mission. tickets start at around $69, but before all of it, muni is debuting its own beer to help celebrate. hop on muni is a collaboration between sfmta standard, deviant brewing and the san francisco city football club. to celebrate the limited edition ipa. muni is offering a special promotion through beer week. it's offering game cards through its website. participants are encouraged to stop at bars all along the muni route, and then you can collect stickers to score some muni

swag. san francisco beer week runs through sunday, march 2nd, so not bad because you got that designated driver. yeah, that's a great point. there you go. beer week. it's like beer a couple of weeks. all right, all right i like it. just drink responsibly. that's all we say. i think i have some friends that kind of stretch it out throughout the year. yeah, i don't drink beer. i'll be the designated driver. there we go. hanging out with marcus. oh, kari. maybe we should go to wine country then. if he's driving. but, hey, i like wine. ready? i wanted to show you something very camera worthy this morning. so it's going to be a beautiful sunrise. and we are seeing it lit up in bright orange. it's a blend. isn't that nice? it kind of looks like beer, doesn't it? we are seeing some bright colors to light up underneath the clouds, and a mostly clear view as we take a live look outside in san jose. as we're stepping out the door. it's a little cool, but will be a mild weekend and high temperatures are headed for the 60s and 70, so it's
6:19 am
going to feel very much like spring. there will be some light rain possible in the north bay late on sunday into monday morning. other than that, it looks great and we're going to see temperatures starting out in the 30s. in the north bay, we're seeing some upper 40s and even low 50s in danville. that's usually one of our cooler spots, but it's pretty mild there to start. and we have a lot going on this weekend. if you're packing a bag heading to sacramento to cheer on the warriors, it's going to be 58 degrees there in sacramento this evening at tipoff time. if you're out for dinner, just a heads up that you want to bring a nice warm jacket. and we cool down to 50 later on tonight and tomorrow. lots of excitement t r the home openers for the san jose earthquakes at paypal park there. we're starting out with upper 50s as well and partly cloudy skies into the evening, but we've been talking about how nice and warm it's going to be. it going to be basically a repeat of yesterday for today, with a high of 68 in dublin and 68 in concord, as well as napa and santa rosa, san francisco, making it up to 66 degrees. and
6:20 am
we'll see that tomorrow as well. while some of our valleys will be a touch warmer, a high of 71 expected in livermore and 73 in morgan hill, and then on sunday, no changes, but we will see a few more clouds starting to mix in with that sunshine. looking way ahead for morgan hill. it's another a few days. we're still looking at some spring like temperatures, and the warmest day will actually be on wednesday 76 degrees. and then we start to see those temperatures coming back down for next weekend. so just a heads up that next weekend won't be as warm as what we are going to see coming our way in the next couple of days, and looking ahead to when we could see some rain. there is that slight chance late sunday into monday for the north bay. notice that much of the rest of the bay area probably won't see anything more than just a few more clouds, and the rest of the storm systems that move closer to us weaken before they really bring us a significant chance of rain. so looking at our 7-day forecast,
6:21 am
more of those 60s and 70s for highs even milder in the morning, starting out in the mid to upper 40s. and san francisco is not going to see as much of a drastic change temperare wise. but we are getting ready for 70 degrees next wednesday there in the city. and mike, you're checking on the golden gate bridge. yeah. you had the beautiful sunrise. all i can offer is international orange, but it's beautiful. and we do see the sun starting to peek out here. so a good flow of traffic to and from the north bay. but the note just like last night, we'll have the same configuration. only one southbound lane is open and two northbound lanes are open. but unlike this morning, they will not open saturday morning until 7 a.m. a little longer because there's not as much of a commute in the morning, so they'll take their time clearing from that span. you can take your time across the bay bridge. no dels at the bay bridge toll plaza. i don't think the metering lights are on even now, and we're looking at a smooth, slow drive just because of the volume building on the span. a little build over here out of richmond as well. and highway 37 was the first to show slowing, holding
6:22 am
pretty steady after you get out of vallejo, highway 4 now we see a little bit easier drive ease into the brakes here in concord and 242 showing a little slowing as well. 680 continues down toward san ramon and the san sunol area without any problems or delays. a note tonight we have a show over here. the disney on ice continues at 630 at the arena, but saturday and sunday combined five more shows, so there will be some slowing past the coliseum throughout the day. note that some folks may be unfamiliar as they take their families to that area. we're looking at a smooth drive for the rest of the bay right now. friday light showing up. there is a concert tonight, so note sap center things will be fluffy. gabriel iglesias will have his concert. that's his nickname. back to you. and that will be fun. a lot of fluff. thanks. well, coming up, a new sweeping new nature documentary narrated by bay area's very own tom hanks, we're going to give you a look at the stunning series and talk to the executive producer behind all of this ahead of this weekend's premiere. keep it right here. you're watching today in the

the brakes on purchasing a new car today in the bay's kris sanchez joins us live from the auto show cost as much as $300,000. we're already hearing a little, i think, activity that's going on there, maybe some wheeling and dealing. yeah, we're going to be talking with brian moody from the auto trader and kelley blue book. his mic is on because he's ready to go. we're going to talk about the economy. but there are new models from 16 different makers here at silicon valley auto show where you can come and kick the tires. and there are also new offerings for evs. there are new different kinds of cars, whatever you're looking for. but the elephant in the room is, of course, how people are feeling about the economy. i want to show you a little bit of data here. in a recent pew research poll, only 25% of americans said that the economy is in good shape, and only 40% said that they expect improvement. and of course, earlier this week, we heard the president say he wanted to slap 25% tariff on all vehicles, all of them. so with all of that, we have to ask brian moody, auto trader, is this a good time to buy? this is a good time to buy. many of the things that we're talking about
6:35 am
right now are theoretical, and they haven't had an impact on the market right now. so you can still get electric vehicle incentives, you can still get manufacturer incentives. cars look to be higher priced because we're looking at averages. but if you don't look at averages, there are still many l low price afaffordable new cars out there. it just won't be electric or a lexus or a mercedes, that kind of thing. so there are a lot of them here too. yes, a lot of affordable options here where people can come in. dream a little. yes. and then also check out the regular ones. so i do want to talk about one thing that we're pretty excited about. there is a flying car here and we have video of that. yes. what do you know about it? well, the one thing i like about it is it has kind of a retro look, right? so that's kind of cool. you take something that is supposed to be from the future, give it a retro look. it's all electric. we know that. we know that it's built right here in the bay area. the other thing we know about it is that it's lightweight, handmade, and it should cost about $300,000 because this is low
6:36 am
volume. so remember, whenever anything new, it's very expensive. the idea is then to sell more and the price comes down. i mentioned that there are new models from 16 different makers. anything in particular that you're looking at? yeah, the combination of, you know, high priced luxury cars, meedes-benz has lotots of gre technology, but then there's also plenty of toyotas and hondas that are more affordable, many under $30,000 or around $30,000. so it's important to keep in mind that when you look at averages and we see like, wow, the prices are really going up. in some cases that's true, especially in this area, more people opt for luxury and electric cars. so that skews the average. but there's still 26,000 honda civics. there's still honda accord hybrids. and those are very affordable. and our meteorologist, kari hall is always talking about the climate crisis. there are different offerings for evs as well. correct? sure. and there's a variety of price ranges for evs, but generally speaking they're around $55,000. so keep that in mind when you go look for an electric car. most people would like it if they drove one, but
6:37 am
find out where you're going to charge it, and then you are on the road toward getting one that will work for you. this new administration. do you expect that some of those incentives might go away? it's hard to say, because that would take a large process to undo that. in the end, it might not be a bad thing because then electric and gas and hybrid and plug in hybrid would all be competing on the same level playing field, and they would have to become better for the price. all right. well, i'm not ready to ride in a flying car just yet, but i will be kicking some tires around here. thank you so much for joining us this morning. the silicon valley auto show kicks off today. it runs through the weekend. you see the pricing there on the full screen. that's for adults. but there are also discounts for folks who are in the military and our senior friends as well. and if you have kids 12 and under, they are free. so i have been shopping around. you guys asked me very specific parameters here, so i have some stuff for you. i'll post that on my instagram page and what i picked out for you. oh, i can't wait to check it

going to have temperatures starting out in the mid 60s at noon, when we are lining up along the parade route. and in the upper 60s during the middle of the day, festivities continue into the afternoon and we'll just see a few clouds every now and then. if you're going to be packing a bag and heading to sacramento this evening, enjoying some dinner there in the city, it's going to be in the upper 50s before the warriors game, and it's going to be cooling down fairly quickly tonight into the low 50s. so make sure you're layered up whether you're going to enjoy time there or at the san jose earthquakes home opener tomorrow night. we're seeing about the same temperatures with upper 50s late in the evening. we also have the earlier in the day lunar new year parade in oakland starts out tomorrow morning at 10:00 and it will be 54 degrees. but as we go into the day, look for those temperatures reaching into the low 60s. that's a live look at palisades tahoe. it's going to be a beautiful weekend there, a little bit warmer with temperatures near 50 degrees. mike, are you seeing a crowd at the bay bridge yet? no. not yet. we're seeing more cars, but it's

according to a new nasa led study. scientists use satellite and radar data to track the coastline and identify hotspots. the fastest sinking spots include san rafael, corte madera, foster city and bay farm island in the alameda next to the oakland airport. researchers say these areas are sinking at a rate more than 0.4in per year. the changes can come from human cost factors like groundwater pumping or natural activity like earthquakes, heavy rain or drought that could accelerate some sort of erosional processes, but that could also really be associated with recharging of the underground water storages or aquifers. the bay area is also notoriously known for a tectonic activity and historical earthquakes. so that is also another factor that is very hard to plug into the
6:49 am
projections. we don't know for certain when one of these big earthquakes will happen. and even the smaller magnitude earthquake can really shake the earth and, and accelerate the sinking of, of these certain pockets. now that sinking comes, as nasa predicts the local sea levels could rise more than 17in by 2050. that's more than double the regional estimate of 7.4in. so to learn more about this study and climate change in the bay area as well as possible solutions, visit our website nbcbayarea.com and click on the climate crisis tab. a lot of great info there. yeah. thanks, kari. well, this morning the legacy of one san francisco business continues as a n chapter begins. san francisco's bob's donuts is opening its doors on its newest storefront later this morning. but what the opening signals goes beyond that sweet smell of donuts. today, in the bay's ginger conejero saab, in the midst of all the sweet smelling donuts this morning and

today, ginger, this is a big step for that original small san francisco business, though. yeah, that is correct. it's the start of a new chapter after 60 years at that original location. if you have come and visited san francisco, or if you're a san franciscan, there's no doubt that you know what bob's donuts is all about. i'm going to show you they may have moved locations, but the flavors are staying the same. these classic maple old fashioned creme brulee, raspberry filled donuts, strawberry lemonade, which i previously called strawberry banana in our teas there. and of course, there's a tiramisu, donut and hawaiian malasadas. the guys here are hard at work all morning getting ready for today's big opening of this new location. so that original location is just down the block, but this one now has a new look and feel, a new vibe all over. but the community is still the priority. i previously spoke with rebecca on who tells me that her family would have wanted to stay at that original

location, but they didn't come to terms with their landlord, so they moved just about 300ft away. now, the family still says that preserving the community feel, even with the modern look, is most important to theirr family. the community that has loyally supported bob's donuts, which carries the distinction of being a san francisco legacy business. we're talking about the flavors here that have kind of made bob's an iconic spot in the city. but guys, you know what else is really iconic? it's the donut challenge. so i'm going to come around here and show you what they're preparing for later this morning. they're going to be two challenges, one at 11 and one at three from what we're told. look how big that donut is. it's just kind of prepping to get to get thrown or not thrown, but to get fried and cooked there. but at 11 and at three, there are going to be people who are taking on the donut challenge to see how much of or how many donuts these this

we take a look at san rafael right now at 43 degrees. and throughout the day, that sunshine continues. a few high clouds kind of filtering the sunshine, but it's going to be about as warm as it was yesterday. so we'll see a high of 68 in oakland, 68 in dublin and 69 in san jose. and we're looking at pretty even temperatures from the coast to the inland areas, but a little bit warmer for the valleys tomorrow as we start to see more 70 in concord, as well as san jose and los gatos, 73 degrees there and san francisco in the mid 60s on sunday. it's also a repeat as we continue with some nice and mild weather. there will be some rain just to our north on sunday night into monday morning. there's that slight chance of rain in the north bay and clouds elsewhere. other than that, the rest of the forecast is dry and we are taking a look at more of this comfortable weather in the forecast. even warmer in the mornings as we continue through the middle of next week. mike, they still haven't turned on the metering lights yet. no, no, they're not enough. volume at
