doubles down on his demand for government employees to list their accomplishments or resign. the midnight deadline has come and gone. we're live in washington with what's next. plus a push to get the homeless off the streets in the south bay. the new controversial program being announced today aimed at reuniting the unhoused with their loved ones. this is today in the bay. and good morning to you on this tuesday. i'm marcus washington, and i'm laura garcia. we'll check that morning commute with mike in just a little bit. we've been talking about a little fog which could affect the morning commute as well. yeah, the fog has been pretty bad in some spots. a lot worse than yesterday. and we've seen in some spots visibility down to basically nothing. so you do need to really slow it down in those areas and be very careful. and we've seen about a quarter mile visibility widespread across the north bay from napa to santa rosa, as well as in the tri-valley. we're down to about a 10th of a mile in oakland. and so we're going to

see this fog drifting around. we can barely see anything. as we take a look at our san francisco camera, with some drizzle there on the camera lens, and the fog lingers until at least 7:00. and then eventually it will be clearing out. and lots of sunshine in the forecast today. it's going to be a really pleasant afternoon here, looking at a high of 6466 in oakland and 68 in san jose, and even warmer temperatures for tomorrow. so we'll talk about that. but yeah, mike, it's the fog right now. yeah. it's also the metering lights at the bay bridge. but definitely you can see the fog and you need to adjust your speeds to give yourself some more reaction time, because that fog is impeding the view of the roadway in many parts of the bay. chp early on warned about fog across most of our bridges. you see on this shot right here, especially the benicia and the carquinez bridges, we see slowing right now. typical spots, but really slow for highway four that's visible with these sensors and earlier disabled vehicle. and then a crash at willow pass road caused early slowing, along with what's likely fog along the water's

damien is expected to be in court today. he is among the five suspected gang members accused of confronting that 15 year-old victim, david gutierrez, as he was out on a date with his girlfriend at santana row on the evening of valentine's day. that's him there on the screen. the other three suspects are 16 years old, but because the suspect accused of stabbing gutierrez is just 13, he is likely to remain in the juvenile justice system and is likely to do eight months or less in an unlocked ranch facility, the san jose police chief said. gangs know this. adults and gangs are exploiting the leniency of our juvenile justice system, recruiting underage members to commit horrific acts of violence on their behalf. why? because they know that a 17 year old, 15 year old, or yes, even a 13 year old is unlikely to face consequences anywhere near as severe as an adult would for the very same crime. our legal analyst

fires. wow. i'm glad it was, a firefighter said. so it's great that first responders are able to get some of the recovery for themselves as well. while they were helping everybody else, people forget they had homes down there too. yeah, i know exactly. all right. time to check the forecast for today. it looks great. we're starting out with some fog, though, but it's going to be really nice over the next several days and enjoying more sunshine. but check out the fog that we're seeing looking from oracle park and low visibility there. not too far in front of this camera. you can't really see a good distance away. so we are seeing visibility dropping down to about a quarter of a mile pretty wide, spread from the coast down to half moon bay. and novato is now seeing visibility at zero. in oakland, it's only a 10th of a mile. this fog is a lot worse and more widespread than we saw yesterday. so this dense fog advisory will be in effect for a little while longer. once the fog clears out, people may head to the coast, but heads up that there will be some very dangerous waves over the next couple of days. we're currently seeing the waves in bodega bay

about hundreds of potential layoffs in the city of san francisco and that school district. good morning to laura. tonight, the san francisco board of education will vote to finalize and authorize the preliminary layoffs for 559 employees, which there's about 9000 people who work in that district that represent about 6000, excuse me, 6% of the workforce. so quite a substantial number there of those being considered for layoffs, 395 are teachers. the remainder are office workers, custodians and bus drivers. the board will also consider a preliminary layoff notices in the coming months for another 129 employees who work in the central office. the school district says it needs to make thes cuts to make up for a $113 million deficit for next year. tonight, the board is only deciding t number of employees, not who those employees would be. that will come after the vote, with the first round of pink slips being sent out march 15th. the union that represents the teachers is
6:37 am
pleased to see that the administration, and not just teachers, will share in the sacrifice. well, i think what's important about this budget is that for the first time, we're seeing a significant central office positions, permanent ones, about 290. so i think it is important that that's being placed there, because we can't just keep cutting from school sites when we have a overbloated central office. and that's been made aware through many reports. so i think it's a step in the right direction, reducing central office to that degree. but as i said, the instability is not something we want. tonight in the south bay, the franklin-mckinley school district board will meet again to discuss and deliberate on whether or not to close at least five schools because of falling enrollment. up to 50 teachers could also lose their jobs. the district says enrollment has plummeted the past 14 years, which has led to a budget deficit there of almost $23
