all military aid to theountry. here in the bay area, people are making their voices heard in support of ukraine. nbc's damian trujillo has that part of the story. ukrainian americans rallied before and during the speech tonight at henry bridges plaza in san francisco. so we are here today to protest against the recent by the trump administration regarding the military aid to ukraine. and we want to make our voices heard and our opinions heard about that. it's terrible. i'm scared for ukraine because i know now all support is stopped now. and it's i, i can't believe i just we need to pray for ukraine now. you don't have the cards right now. many in the ukrainian american community are still fuming after this heated oval office exchange between president trump and ukrainian president volodymyr zelensky last friday. tonight, they're

wondering what will become of the relationship between both nations. it seemed to me that there was an effort by the vice president and the president, really, to ambush president zelensky. steven pifer is a former u.s. ambassador to ukraine.e, too, is watching the president's comments on ukraine closely, and he warns against underestimating the russia china relationship as he shapes his international policy. if they throw ukraine under the bus to russia and maybe back away from europe, they're thinking that perhaps they can somehow peel putin away from china, if that's in fact the strategy. i think it's based on a gross misunderstanding of how deep the relationship between president xi and president putin is and how dependent russia is on china. tonight, the world is watching both the president's words and his actions. nevin harrison damian trujillo, nbc bay area news. the north bay congressman was named a designated survivor for tonight's speech. mike thompson

in oakland, fears of a freeway shooting triggered a full closure of 880. the chp closed all southbound lanes at broadway so they could search for evidence. look at that. this was around 1045 this morning. our sky ranger was there. you can see a lot of cars jammed up at the top of your screen, just stuck in traffic. while investigators walking the freeway, there they were. the chp hasn't said what evidence they found or if they confirmed a shooting even happened. this whole thing lasted just about 20 minutes. 880 did reopen shortly after. well, several rv dwellers are back out on the street today after the city aggressively shut down the safe rv park where they had been living. momeni say the city also went back on its word, initially telling them they could stay until more permanent housing was ready. today, we counted 11 rvs that are now parked on gilman avenue, near that now shuttered rv park. they were all evicted from that park

yesterday afternoon. most of the people we talked with say while they were warned of the closure months ago, they were also told they wouldn't have to leave until alternate city housing was open. but yesterday morning they all got notices to leave immediately, and at 5:00 the eviction started. they rounded everybody up. they told everybody everything's getting locked up at five and threw us out. they said the sheriff's coming. the san francisco department of homelessness and supportive housing and the mayor's office have not replied to our questions about the sudden decision to evict everyone. and ironically, it comes at the same time the city announced a new homelessness pilot project with tipping point community, a group founded by daniel lurie. the current ceo of tipping point says it will be spending $11 million to try and prevent family homelessness. he says all the money comes from private donors. okay. are you ready? today is the official start of mardi gras, which means there's a big party in new orleans. this is a view from bourbon street. just take a look

venues with free live performances. those looking to fill the beat say it's a good way to let loose while celebrating culture. just having a space to get out of there, that mindset is important right now, so anything that will get us out of the stress of life and have fun with people that need that same stress relief. business owners hope the entertainment and excitement translates to a boost in business. yeah, i'm so happy because maybe new people coming today. i don't know how many people come in and maybe it's the first time. maybe they know the place, maybe they like it and they love the food and come back. this is just the start of a series of celebrations coming for the city, culminating on the weekend of may 24th, when 500,000 people are expected to gather for a two day carnaval celebration. because it is san francisco and so multicultural, we also have panamanian roots, brazilian roots, mexican roots,

and caribbean roots. right? and so that gets all put together in this beautiful pot. beyond the music, organizers say these festivities are meant to bring people together. happiness comes in the form of people coming together. and coming together allows these businesses to thrive. it allows the artists to thrive. in san francisco. velena jones, nbc bay area news. much more interesting there than here right now they're partying, right? speaking of fun, yes, i'm ready to join that party. and this party. tell us what's going on with the rain. we got some good stuff coming on the way. as we roll through the next couple of days. some more wet weather on the way in the next two day forecast. let me get you more details in that microclimate weather. and this system looks impressive out here in the pacific. but what i can tell you about it right now is it's not going to be able to produce some super heavy rainfall totals because this area high pressure is building in so quickly behind it, so dry, high pressure really

just kind of limiting the amount of rainfall we'll get from this storm system. so we'll get some rainfall, but certainly not the biggest storm in recent memory. as we head through tomorrow morning, we'll get that rainfall bubbling up here over the peninsula, east bay, and also for the south bay. then as we head through tomorrow afternoon, we can expect a little bit of a break here with some sunshine. and then as we roll into tomorrow night, a few more areas of scattered rain that could fire off a scattered thunderstorm or two, and we'd hang on to some of these thunderstorm chances into thursday morning, maybe even some low snow for mount hamilton and right into thursday afternoon. so rainfall totals with the way all of this is moving in from the south would be the highest for the peninsula, south bay and east bay, about a quarter to half inch and much less on the totals here for the north bay trace amounts to right around 16 hundredths of an inch. so along with that rain chance tomorrow morning and the clouds are going to start it off on the chilly side. lots of 40s to low 50s out here across the bay area. that
