for eight years and we are just getting started. right now at six reshaping america, president trump addresses the nation and lays out his plan for the next four years. we're live in washington with reaction from overnight over the promises for the economy, his defense of doge and a slew of other issues. plus, a water main break forces road closures in the south bay. we're tracking the impact it will have on your morning commute. and a rainy start for parts of the bay area this morning. meteorologist kari hall is tracking where we'll see most of the wet weather today. this
6:01 am
is today in the bay. and a good wednesday morning to you. thanks so much for allowing us to be a part of your morning. i'm marcus washington and i'm laura garcia. we're going to check that morning commute with mike. a little soggy out there. kari. yes. it is soggy for some of us as we're getting started. and in other parts of the bay area, it has been dry and will remain dry. we're seeing this from the peninsula to the east bay down to the south bay. and notice how we're not seeing any rain in the north bay. but it is cloudy as the storm system is very close by, and it will be pushing off towards the south and east as we go through the day. so actually clearing the bay area. here's a look at storm ranger, our mobile doppler radar showing the wet weather. the green there spreading from the santa cruz mountains extending over toward the tri-valley. but we haven't yet seen a lot of rain in danville, as well as up toward concord and richmond as well as oakland. we are going to, for the most part, see only slight rain chances there, while raining quite a bit for the south bay from san jose to
6:02 am
morgan hill and gilroy. we are going to see those showers for napa. it will be a dry day and partly to mostly cloudy to start becoming sunny as we go into the afternoon. mike, you are focusing on the south bay for this first report because of the east bay standard build over there. we're showing wet roadways. the green highlighting here. but really the slowing for one on a crash blocking your two outer lanes. folks were squeezing through the two inner lanes. they were still open. last i checked there had been no progress. but i do see a better speed driving up past hamilton avenue. they may have made progress. we'll track this crash that will slow you from 85. heading up toward 280 on highway 17. there's another issue in the south bay as well. eastbound 237. if you're getting on to 680, you might have to get up to jacqueline road or landis avenue because of activity overnight. for more onn that, wll send it right back to you. all right, mike, thank you. and developing that water main break in the south bay may cause some backups for you this morning in that commute. here is a live look for you in that area. milpitas. now,
6:03 am
all eastbound lanes of calaveras boulevard are closed. this is from 680 to hill view drive. now, that's right by the milpitas town center. drivers are encouraged to avoid that area. well, reaction is still pouring in after president trump's address to congress last night. president trump spoke for more than an hour and a half recapping his first six weeks in office. the speech, drawing cheers from republicans and signs of protest from democrats. today in the bay's alice barr joins us live from washington this morning. and alice, reaction to the president's address expected falling sharply along party lines. laura. absolutely. we saw several moments when republicans all stood up and cheered enthusiastically. and as you noted, there were protests on the democratic side. several members of congress on the democratic side held up signs. some walked out of the chamber and president trump took some swipes at former president biden and at congressional democrats. he also leaned into culture war issues while declaring that with
6:04 am
his far reaching agenda, america is back. standing in the u.s. capitol, where he was sworn into office just six weeks ago. president trump, touting his administration's rapid pace of change. and we are just getting started defending his new tariffs on canada, mexico and china. tariffs are about making america rich again. despite stock market drops amid concerns about a trade war, further hiking prices. there will be a little disturbance, but we're okay with that. it won't be much. he praised elon musk. he's working very hard and the department of government efficiency for slashing the size of government. even as democratic lawmakers invited fired federal workers as their guests for the speech. in the democratic response, michigan senator elissa slotkin cast cuts to government services as a means to deliver tax breaks to the wealthy. grocery and home prices are going up, not down,
6:05 am
and he hasn't laid out a credible plan to deal with either of those any further. and texas democrat al green was escorted out after vocally objecting to president trump calling his election victory a mandate. on immigration, the president asking congress for more funding for mass deportations and border securit, while needling democrats who wanted new legislation to secure the border. it turned out that all we really needed was a new president. looking to russia's war on ukraine, he announced ukrainian president zelensky had reached out following their oval office clash that led to a freeze on military aid to ukraine. i'm also working tirelessly to end the savage conflict in ukraine. in a sometimes combative speech, president trump, promising to keep shaking up the government. and president trump will not tour the country following his address as presidents often do, though he did return to some key campaign trail promises, again
6:06 am
calling for no tax on tips or on overtime,, ando tax on social security benefits for seniors. laura. all right. a lot has been done in six weeks. a lot to follow. alice. thank you always. well, today on capitol hill, the president looks to fill open seats in the white house. and a stanford professor of medicine goes before the senate for his confirmation hearing. doctor jay bhattacharya is being tapped to lead the national institutes of health. he became widely known during the pandemic. in 2020, he coauthored an open letter calling on public health officials to roll back covid lockdowns. the nih is made up of 27 research institutes, each focused on their o areas, including cancer, infectious disease and mental health. well, the fate of san mateo counties in battle. schaar still unofficial. officially, i should say, up in the air this morning. but early indications from that special election point toward a final decision ending up in the hands of supervisors. that's because the early results
6:07 am
overwhelmingly support measure a, a yes vote would amend the county charter, giving county supervisors authority to remove sheriff christina corpus. election leaders say yesterday's in-person turnout was thin. but we spoke with some of those voters who are skeptical about the process. should have been out in the open and we should have had a recall election, not this. i think it would set up a negative trend for the future, that any time somebody is not happy with somebody, they create a charter amendment. sheriff corpus has called herself a victim of false allegations. she also not only refused to step down, but she filed a $10 million lawsuit against the county. kris sanchez will have more on this story coming up in our next half hour. now to a live look this morning of bourbon street in new orleans, courtesy of earth cam. today is ash wednesday, but you can probably see some remnants of fat tuesday mardi gras celebrations out on the streets. they got to hose them down. fat tuesday kicked off months of celebrations in the bay area as
6:08 am
well. so that's a lot of energy. the mission district was filled with music, dancing, colorful costumes, a lot of fun. as the san francisco carnival kicked off its 47th year celebrating latin, caribbean and african culture. last night events included celebrations across 20 venues with free live performances. organizers say the festivities are meant to bring people together because it is san francisco and so multicultural. we also have panamanian roots, brazilian roots, mexican roots and caribbean roots, right? and so that gets all put together in this beautiful pot. well, this is just the start of a series of celebrations coming for the city. it culminates on the weeken of may 24th, right around marcus, when 500,000 people are expected to gather for a two day carnaval celebration. that would be so much fun. yes, we have time for it to get a little warmer and maybe work out a little bit more. going to be wearing those
6:09 am
outfits, i know. let the good times roll and only the way kari can say it between us all. how do you say it? kari. laissez les bons temps rouler. there you go. and there you go. with that traffic to look. some of those folks out there. kari probably have some sprinkles on their windshields. possibly. yeah. we are starting out with some off and on rain across parts of the bay area. a little bit of some wet weather to start out this wednesday morning. it won't last all day and we are seeing some of the heaviest rainfall, something that's just enough to coat the streets and have you turning on the windshield wipers over the south bay. but the north bay hasn't yet seen any rain and probably won't throughout today. it's been from the peninsula to the east bay, as well as the south bay, where we are tracking that rain with stormranger, and it's also been moving through the tri-valley, although it has started to clear up as you head toward hayward and union city, through castro valley and dublin. livermore seeing a little bit of that rain. but it still continues for the south bay and will most likely linger through at least the nine to ten o'clock hours for parts of the south bay. and
6:10 am
then notice the clearing that we'll see around noon for the north bay. sunshine for all of the bay area for the evening commute. and then very quickly after sunset, the clouds start to roll back in and some spotty showers will be hit or miss as we go throughout the day tomorrow. so i'll be tracking that for you. we'll talk about the very nice weekend coming our way. coming up. mike has a look at where we can fill up for a bit less. yeah. kari. i did find one price that keeps dropping the same price. we're going to go back to our new favorite contra costa county. pinole has dropping $0.20, even more $0.20 more overnight to 3.79 at marathon and central gas on san pablo avenue. we've been tracking that place all week. now let's hit the city of santa clara for their low of 427 in the south bay. that's at platinum gas on washington street in the middle here and in the north bay, mill valley has marin county's best at 437 at hq fuels on shoreline highway. i'm hoping you find some changes for the better. go to gasbuddy.com to find your area on the roadways. we're looking at a smooth flow and pretty
6:11 am
predictable changes. we have the green highlighting that shows where you might findng in north 17 approaching hamilton, much less slowing than the last couple of minutes. i think they've cleared at least one more additional lane. there's a crash there approaching hamilton and some restrictions. the rest of the bay. no surprises throughout the east bay. the bay bridge, of course, is backed up. back to you. thanks, mike. a volcanic eruption in hawaii now hitting some spectacular heights just ahead on today in the bay. we're going to the air. all rigm

getting started. it's cloudy. it's in the low 50s and it will stay in the 50s throughout at least the morning into the early afternoon, with a slight chance of rain here by later today. we should see some times of sunshine and then more rain ahead. we'll get a look at the timeline of our ever changing weather coming up in a few minutes. and in san jose we're looking at more traffic on north 101. but notice there's more water on the lens once again. you may get hit with that in patches throughout the east bay and the south bay. we'll track the slowing and see the impact it has on your commute coming up. well good morning. very happy wednesday to you. housekeeping notes. southwest airlines has moved its gate at sfo from terminal one to terminal two. and that's not something you want to find out last minute. but why are you getting to the airport last minute? this is the ten year treasury yield. this is a number nobody controls. not the president, not the fed. but it controls a lot of your life. like mortgage rates. it gets bigger when people worry about the future of the economy and
1:31 pm
it's getting bigger. you saw the dow the nasdaq over my shoulder. markets fell hard again on tuesday. investors worried trump's trade war will backfire. futures do call for a mixed opening this morning, after commerce secretary howard lutnik told cnbc a deal with canada and mexico could come as soon as today. president trump called last night to cancel the chips bill. that bill was bipartisan, so some of the people cheering for its cancellation voted for it in 2022. speaker johnson, on the right, did not. he voted no. jd vance on the left didn't vote either way because two and a half years ago, he wasn't a lawmaker. we forget how new he is to washington. the chips bill, technically the chips and science act is expensive, but it's brought some of the chip companies to america from overseas, and that mas strategic sense. we become less dependent on taiwan. the president says he wants it shut down, but it's benefited him,
1:32 pm
too. he was celebrating the announcement of a new chips plant on monday, the commerce department suggesting a change to the rules bringing internet to rural america that would allow starlink to join. that's elon musk's company delivering internet by satellite. right now. the broadband for all rules say it has to be supplied by fiber, not satellite. the associated press reports the internal revenue system is working on plans to cut as much as half its staff. it's already shed 7000 workers, but they're talking about cutting 43,000 more. critics say that will mean longer waits on the phone, longer waits for tax refunds and fewer tax cheats caught. and there's a proposal to end a rule that requires crypto companies to report the sale of crypto to the irs the same way the bank tells the irs about you or your employer files a w-2. you're taxed on profits you make on crypto. you're taxed on everything that you make a profit on. we saw this when the real crypto boom, you know, the crypto bros sort of thing, would
1:33 pm
go out and buy a ferrari with the money they made, not realizing they owe tax on that money as well. yeah. if you're bringing in income, you owe tax on it, right? it doesn't matter if anybody's reporting it or not. yeah. they thought it was a new thing. you could. yeah. this doesn't count. yeah. same with venmo. same with everything else. all right. thanks, scott. hey, check out this spectacular site on the big island of hawaii. this is actually a live look showing the very active kilauea spewing lava into the sky there. this stage of the volcano's latest eruption only started about 24 hours ago. the usgs says it's reaching heights of up to 600ft. kilauea's current eruption started in december of last year. well, the warriors are in the big apple to play both the knicks and the nets. but last night at the garden, one bona fide star sitting courtside got a little too close to the action. protect jennifer hudson, protect jennifer hudson. yeah. the egot

22nd year in the in the association. his milestone covers both regular season and postseason scoring. kareem abdul jabbar is second on the list, nearly 6000 points behind now the true king james. wow, that's so crazy. love it. all right, let's make a pass to kari now i know okay. yeah okay. got it. okay. i was just waiting to pop up. all right. we're starting out with some rain this morning. as we are seeing it moving from the peninsula down to the south bay and a little bit of rain moving into the east bay as well. but for the most part, we haven't seen the rain covering all of the bay area. it's been the south bay waking up to some soggy conditions as we track it with storm ranger. that's our mobile doppler radar. if you have the nbc bay area app, you can actually see exactly what storm ranger is picking up on, and the rain has moved past livermore and it continues to
1:36 pm
clear. now, we're also seeing that light rain over the south bay as well as san mateo. so we wake up to some raindrops here on the camera lens. the streets are wet. light rain continues throughout the morning for the south bay, but then it's off and on for thursday with a partly cloudy day, and then it will be drying out for the weekend. so let's get a look at our weather that's going to be changing hour by hour, with our outlook showing the rain pushing out of the south bay for san jose at least until 10:00, it's still going to be raining in morgan hill and gilroy, and that rain may linger into early in the afternoon. notice that at 4:00 there is this clearing of the clouds. it's going to be nice and sunny. we'll have a beautiful sunset. but then very quickly the next wave of clouds and rain will be coming in overnight and the rain is going to be hit or miss. so it's going to be kind of spotty throughout the day tomorrow, with some breaks in the clouds, as well as some times of sunshine, so we could see areas south of the golden gate bridge getting some additional rainfall, anywhere
1:37 pm
from a half of an inch of rain to a little bit more farther south. it dries out and warms up for the weekend, but then looking ahead to next week, more storms will be coming in and they will be cold, so they could bring in some very high amounts of sierra snow while the bay area gets some rain. take a look at our temperatures. there's this break from thursday afternoon through sunday, and that's going to be the perfect time to get outside as our temperatures warm up, saturday is likely our best day in the 7-day forecast. and mike, you'll see some wet roads out there for the commute. you can kind of see that on the san jose camera here. you see the water on the lens, water on the roadway. folks are going to slow down just a tad bit, as you should when the conditions don't allow you to go quite at speed. we do see a gradual slowing and typical build pattern. north 17 and hamilton. i believe all but the right lane is now open a over here in the northbound direction toward hamilton. an earlier crash did tie up traffic there. nice recovery. we still have eastbound calaveras a

a response to a south bay woman who wound up with four different refrigerators in just a few months. she was really going in circles with the store, so she tapped consumer investigator chris chmura team. good morning. carol in santa clara had a leaky fridge, and we're going to call that fridge number one. the thing is, techs couldn't fix it, so they ordered her fridge number two under her warranty. but carol says fridge number two was the wrong model. sears hauled it away and delivered fridge number three. guess what? carol says fridge number three was also the wrong model. she says sears wouldn't send her a replacement, so she reached out to us. we contacted sears. it said this the delivery company should not have hooked up the refrigerator and removed her old one, since they were aware that it was not the correct model. sears then delivered the correct model. carol sent us a nice note and said, i am truly grateful
1:42 pm
for your attention to this matter. that took me eight months with no resolution. and there's the new refrigerator. carol was smart to keep an eye on her warranty. she was aware of her protections and she fought for them, which is super important when you pay for your warranty. it's baked into the price of whatever it is you're buying, so you should get your money's worth. if you have a consumer issue on ice, maybe we can deliver some results. snap the qr code on screen right now to fill out our consumer complaint form online. thanks, kris. 26 after the hour, we've got a lot more ahead at 630, including president trump delivering his address to congress. scott mcgrew returns to break down the key topics in his speech and the new reaction from democrats. plus, it appears the voters have spoken once again about the fate of sheriff christina corpus here in san mateo county. we'll tell you the results of a special election and a rainy start on this wednesday morning. i'm mike

address to lawmakers. from the economy to ukraine and the immigration crisis. our scott mcgrew breaking down what it all means to you. the fate of san mateo county sheriff now appears to be in the hands of supervisors. we're live with an early result from the special election. and what comes next in the push to remove her from office? plus, protecting oakland homes. the late night decision that will keep multiple fire stations fully operational. this is today in the bay. good wednesday morning to you. thanks for joining us i'm laura garcia. and i'm marcus washington. time to get a look at what we can expect from that weather today. some of you stepping outside a little wet out there. meteorologist kari hall is tracking that f us. kari. yeah, and it's giving us some much needed rain in the areas that need it the most. it's the south bay, parts of the peninsula, as well as parts of the east bay. but the north bay getting a break this go round, and we are going to see some cloudy skies throughout the morning, some off and on showers
1:47 pm
as we track it with storm ranger, our mobile doppler radar. we are seeing the rain over san jose. it' just now starting to clear the tri-valley with another wave of rain. moving now into hayward and looking down at to palo alto as well as san jose, morgan hill and gilroy. starting out with some rain while in san francisco. it's cloudy. the rain hasn't yet moved in. we are seeing the raindrops on the lens there in san jose, and rain will continue in the forecast through about late morning into the early afternoon, and then later today we should get some clearing. so we'll talk about more rain ahead in the forecast coming up. mike, you're checking out the richmond san rafael plaza. and we know that there's going to be a buildup here which there is for west 580. also look behind me here folks. doing some flashing lights. that's just someone working on that truck. i don't know anything about the truck. i just know that it's caltrans and they'll take care of that out of lanes. a smooth drive approaching the area off the east shore freeway. westbound 80 does slow, of course, in through richmond and then toward the berkeley area. the buildup, of course, toward the bay bridge toll plaza. and there may be an issue around
1:48 pm
university. i'll check on wt 80. southbound 880 shows a build off 238 past 92, which does build over toward the peninsula. no surprises, but watch those wet roads through the tri-valley and the south bay. 101 and 87 show a build. back to you. thank you mike. well, this morning reaction is still coming in after president trump addressed a joint session of congress last night. scott mcgrew it was the longest presidential address, really, in modern times. it was a long one. yeah, more than an hour and a half. good morning. as you've no doubt heard, the address will be called the state of the union when he returns next year. but this first term speech is not called that. he touched on a lot of topics last night, including ukraine, saying he was pleased with ukrainian president zelensky's social post yesterday calling for more peace talks, talked about the effect tariffs will have on the economy. some short term disturbance, he said. tariffs are about making america rich again and making america great again. and it's happening and it will happen rather quickly.
1:49 pm
there will be a little disturbance, but we're okay with that. it won't be much. speaking of disturbances, congressman al green of texas disturbed the speech by heckling trump from the crowd. green is worried about proposed cuts to medicaid, the health care system that helps america's poor. now we're going to talk more about this issue in the future. but the quick thumbnail is republicans want to cut taxes. but to do that without democrats help, which they're not going to get, they have to find an equivalent amount of money to cut so much money. it's got to come from something that costs a lot of money, like medicaid. president trump spent a lot of time talking last night about democrats, biden in particular, mentioning a previous president far more often than we've seen from other presidents, though in the end, after blasting democrats, he called for bipartisanship. so democrats sitting before me for just this
1:50 pm
one night, why not join us in celebrating so many incredible wins for america, for the good of our nation? let's wor together and let's truly make america great again. president trump praised elon musk, saying his doge had saved hundreds of billions of dollars. now that is not true. even doge doesn't use numbers that big. doge's numbers are smaller and aren't very trustworthy. a new york times article lists dozens of examples of sloppy accounting by doge. here's the president. because we are draining the swamp, it's very simple. and the days of rule by unelected bureaucrats are over. a lot of people quick to point out elon musk is an
1:51 pm
unelected bureaucrat. democrat elissa slotkin from michigan delivered the democratic response, concentrating most on the economy. he's going to make you pay in every part of your life. grocery and home prices are going up, not down. and he hasn't laid out a credible plan to deal with either of those. his tariffs on allies like canada will raise prices on energy, lumber and cars and start a trade war that will hurt manufacturing and farmers. your premiums and prescriptions will cost more, because the math on his proposals doesn't work without going after your health care. meanwhile, for those keeping score, the national debt is going up, not down. now, brand new into our newsroom. the director of the cia has confirmed not only is america no longer sending weapons to ukraine, we're not sharing intelligence either. seems to be part of a pressure campaign to get ukraine to take a deal with russia. ukraine's resisted because it fears america's deals
1:52 pm
favor the kremlin. also, markets really brand new. like during the commercial break, the supreme court rejected a block on 2 billion in u.s. aid money. says it needs to be distributed. we'll follow up on that. that we will. all right, scott, thank you. well, san mateo county sheriff christina corpus future appears to be in the hands of the county board of supervisors. this as early results of a special election, show voters supporting giving them the power remove her from office. today in the bay's kris sanchez joining us from redwood city this morning. and the county seat there. okay, so, chris, what happens now? well, marcus, it appears the voters have spoken once again. and some of them who voted the sheriff into office now appear to be voting to give the supervisors the right to call her out of office once again. our county elections workers here in san mateo are ststill counting all of the vots in this special election, but early results are overwhelmingly
1:53 pm
in favor of measure a. that measure changes the county charter to allow supervisors to remove the sheriff from office. it is an amendment. four of the five supervisors and state and federal elected leaders, plus labor unions, publicly supported voters. we talked with say they are concerned about the precedent this sets. others say they are ready to move on. we've been out in the open. we should have had a recall election, not this. i think it would set up a negative trend for the future, that any time somebody is not happy with somebody, they create a charter amendment. i voted yes, vote corruption out. our sheriff, christina corpus, is accused of a abuse of power, of making racist and homophobic remarks and of jailing the deputy union's president in retaliation for exposing corruption in the department. many of the accusations, detailed in a 400 page report by an independent investigator who is a retired santa clara county
1:54 pm
judge. now, the sheriff repeatedly has denied those allegations, saying the attacks on her are politically motivated. we did reach out to her for comment about the special election. she has not responded. up until this point. now, even if this measure passes and the supervisors get that power to remove her from office, she does have one more recourse. and that is to appeal to the board of supervisors to keep her in her job in redwood city. kris sanchez today in the bay. all right. we'll continue to follow this story. we know you will, kris. thank you. well, follow up for you. oakland leaders have approved a new midyear funding to keep four fire stations open, even as the city grapples with a major budget crisis. council members last night approved more than $8 million in funding for four stations that had been slated to o temporary close. three other stations remain closed and are expected to remain that way through june, when the next fiscal year begins. the city has only about one third of the way through its necessary budget cuts. well, now to a live look across the bay
1:55 pm
area this morning, where some spots we're seeing some showers. meteorologist kari hall has been tracking what we can expect out there today. you say this is not going to be an all day thing? no. and in fact, some parts of the bay area may see a lot of sunshine today. the north bay has seen a lot of clouds and not yet any rain. the rain has been a lot farther south, and it has created a very soggy commute from parts of the peninsula to the south bay. and every now and then we've seen the rain making it into the east bay. as we get a closer look, we are seeing the rain clearing dublin, but there is another wave moving from hayward toward castro valley into dublin within the next few minutes. and in san jose there is a light rain coming down that's been picking up a little bit more for morgan hill and gilroy, but it has still been dry for far spots like walnut creek as well as san francisco. as our temperatures start out in the mid 60s in dublin. also looking like a dry morning. but rain chances will increase as we go into the next couple of hours, and the clouds linger as we go into today. now, mike, you've got some potential
1:56 pm
slowdowns out there. one is the reason to slow down. you're talking about some slick roadways. we've been seeing the south bay all morning have this green highlighting where the road weather index says it might be slick here. more volume of traffic, so you'll slow for that as well. and then coming here in toward milpitas. this is unusual, but you cannot take in calaveras all the way to 680. there was an overnight water main break. and so there is a closure around hillview. that's about a block and a half short of 680. you probably get up to jacqueline and you'll be clear if you're heading north on 680 up towards scott creek and in towards sunol, that's the best bet to avoid any of that construction or the repair work that's going on there in milpitas. meanwhile, as we look in the city, we have chase center tyler, the creator, the concert at 730. so there will be that congestion to and from on mariposa that's extending over toward 280. and then overnight, the golden gate, the bridge over here we have the construction one lane south, two lanes north configuration should clear by 5 a.m. commute. back to you. all right. thanks so much, mike. well, some encouraging news on pope francis overnight. up next,

science bowl, sponsored by national accelerator laboratory in menlo park. the head of the academy says her students were actually just competing for fun, with no expectation of beating the competition from the big, prestigious high schools in the area. it's so fun to watch them. i'm actually really preparing for the competition again. they are going in there feeling that they are just going to have fun. and they're i'm so proud of them and i know they could have not done this with the incredible support of their teachers, peers and families. the u.s. department of energy sponsors the national science bowl, in which the cupertino team will face off against other high schoolers from across the country in a very fast paced question and answer format. it takes place in washington, d.c, april 24th through the 28th. we are thrilled for them and we're wishing them all the best. good luck. okay, good luck to you as well. today you've got your first chance to get your hands on tickets for one of the biggest music festivals in the

bay area. we're talking about outside lands in san francisco's golden gate park in august. so at 10:00 this morning, those eager beaver pre-sale tickets start. organizers say that it is the lowest price possible for the three day tickets. general admission tickets start at just under $500. vip passes will cost you a little bit more than that. more than $1,000 to be exact. there's still no hints yet of who's actually headlining this year's festival, but surely always a pleasure out there because you have so many different artists throughout the day or the three days there. so yeah, they always have a really good lineup. so there's at least one person you really like. yeah. oh yeah. no doubt. all mess up the surprise. it's going to be me. it's a special day. speaking of surprises, here's the performance. birthday. happy birthday to you. thank you. that's beautiful to you. happy birthday, dear laura. happy rthday to you. wow. serenade as well. thank you guys. are you

really brought a lot of rain to the north bay, and we're just going to see a slight chance there. the best chance will be from the south bay to the east bay. and notice how the rain is over the central coast and then heading farther south. so it's moving away from us, at least for now, as we track it with storm ranger. that's our mobile doppler radar. the red skins, the red scan that you're seeing there with our truck parked on san bruno mountain. we are seeing the rain from palo alto extending over toward fremont and dublin, as well as parts of the south bay with some wet roads as you're heading out this morning. the trend overall will be for to stay cloudy. the rain starts to move away from us and look at noon to 1:00 for the north bay. it is completely clear there, and we'll see that clearing for a little while into the evening commute for the rest of the bay area, until later tonight, when the next batch of clouds and spotty showers move through. it just stays unsettled tomorrow. but then friday is looking much better. we'll actually be warming up as the skies clear as well. notice that we're not looking at much rain
2:06 pm
for the north bay, maybe a few hundredths of an inch of rain, and then it could be up to a half inch of rain for palo alto, los gatos, and maybe even more for san jose and morgan hill. the weekend we see the warm weather coming back, high pressure building and really nice as those temperatures make it into the mid to upper 60s. but right behind that, we continue with a very active storm pattern that will be ramping up as we go into monday, as well as tuesday, with some waves of rain as well as sierra snow. what we see in this current storm system will bring us about five to possibly 12in of snow before the weekend in the sierra, but looking ahead to next week, we could see it really ramping up. and we always look for that miracle march. well, we could get it with the heavy amount of snow moving that direction along with cold temperatures while we get some rain. but we are going to enjoy a beautiful weekend with sunshine. cool to start, but we're headed for the mid to upper 60s for the afternoons, and in san francisco we'll see a

chance of rain today and tomorrow, but clearing out for friday through sunday. mike, you're seeing more slowing in walnut creek. a pretty traditional pattern here for a wednesday. we do see there. you just saw those sensors change from yellow to orange. more slowing. pleasant hill down to walnut creek and now pushing over through moraga toward the caldecott. no problems for the tunnel. no problems for 680. south of there, although there's undoubtedly a build heading down through danville and into san ramon. south of there, we do see a little slowing for 880 coming down out of hayward, and for 680 coming down through pleasanton. we see the green highlighting. there will be tri-valley areas where still have slicker roadways from a light rain that travel through. so keep that in mind. pushing west across the san mateo bridge, there's the building. you see the wet pavement as well. no major problems. there's just the push to the peninsula as well. southbound again, we talked about pleasanton and towards sunol where we have some wetter roadways. and remember getting over towards 680. calaveras is cut off just at hillview because of that water main break. and so you might have to use jacqueline to get on to northbound 680. the

south bay build is pretty standard though. back to you. thank you very much, mike. happening now. there's still no deal between the vta and its light rail and bus operators. a deal expired at midnight yesterday. the union that represents those workers have voted in favor of a strike. for now, they're still out of a job. workers are fighting for a pay raise amid other sticking points. a vta board meeting is scheduled for tomorrow night. the union plans to hold a special meeting on friday, and we're back with a look at our top stories this morning, including the reaction to president trump's joint address to congress. a look at some of the key moments, including the agenda he laid out his message on the economy and the blowback from democrats. plus, early special election results in san mateo county show for the sheriff's job on the line. we're going to break down what comes next and the effort to remove her from office.

welcome back. we are moving you forward with a look at the top stories on today in the bay. well, this morning reaction is still coming in to president trump's joint address to congress. among my very highest priorities is to reue our economy and get dramatic and immediate relief to working families. as you know, we inherited from the last administration an economic catastrophe and an inflation nightmare. now, the president spoke for just under an hour and 40 minutes. it is the longest speech a president has delivered to congress ever. now we spoke. he spoke about the economy, immigration, praised the department of government efficiency, had elon musk, texas congressman al green was escorted from that chamber,
2:13 pm
objecting to president trump calling his election victory a mandate. now, senator elise slotkin of michigan delivered a democratic response. the fate of san mateo county's embattled sheriff still officially up in the air this morning, but early indications from the special election point towards a final decision ending up in the hands of supervisors. that's because the early results overwhelmingly support measure a, a yes vote would amend the county charter, giving county supervisors authority to remove sheriff christina corpus. sheriff corpus has called herself a victim of false allegations. oakland leaders have approved new midyear funding to keep four fire stations open, even as the city grapples with a major budget crisis. council members last night approving more than $8 million in funding. this is for four stations that had been slated to temporarily close. three other stations remain closed and are expected to remain that way through june. this is when the next fiscal year begins. a water main break in the south bay may cause some

backups for the morning commute. we have a live look in that area in milpitas, where they're trying to clean up. all eastbound lanes of calaveras boulevard, closed from 680 to hillview drive. that's right by the milpitas town center. drivers are encouraged, of course, to avoid that area. well, some folks out there on the roads are going to notice. it's kind of wet out there. yeah. and we've seen that rain moving through the south bay. it's going to be off and on in some of those areas. north bay will gradually see some clearing temperatures headed for the upper 50s. slight chance of rain tomorrow, but look ahead to the weekend. it's going to be a nice one. a jacket to start but mild in the afternoon. it will be nice, but right here san jose gray. we're talking about light traffic for 101. but again that water main break you talked about. so here are the slower patterns typical for silicon valley a typical eastbound calaveras accessing northbound 680. you have to go north toward jacqueline to get on there because it is cut off from hillview, as you said, laura. and so you can't get to 680 the entire way because of the water main break. listen to mike today show just ahead, shining a light
