6:46 am
plant based alternative, but also a cultivated meat alternative. that's right. so we're we're based in san francisco, and mission barns is making real meat without the animal. so specifically, we're making pork products like meatballs, bacon, sausages, all without an animal, so that we can make delicious food without using a lot of resources like land, water and energy. that's that's incredible. daniel, you've been doing a great job for us this morning here. getting down with the with the meatballs, with cooking with the pork meaalls. thank you. how does it all. does it cook the same. what's the experience like when you actually, you know, put it on the stove. yeah of course it cooks exactly the same. and it ends up producing the delicious, flavorful pork meatball. when did you guys think up of, you know, exploring the future of food and creating alternatives like this? bianca? yeah. so we were founded in 2018, and we really wanted to give consumers a delicious option where they can feed their families the same real meat that they know and love, without all of the negative consequences of
6:47 am
industrial animal agriculture. and it tastes very similar. it is the same because it is made from real pork fat. and what is that? what is the pig's name behind it? or the pork fat's name? we have a very sweet donor pig named dawn. she's currently living at a climate sanctuary in upstate new york, sweet farm. but we're able to produce dawn's meat while she's still alive there. and you're basically eating meatball from dawn. thank you. dawn. all right. and talk to us about what this means for the future of food, particularly here in the bay area, because we are pushing the boundaries with alternatives. it means that consumers are able to eat the food that they know and love, and it means that we're able to feed a whole global population's worth of for meat. so yeah, it gives everyone an opportunity to taste our products. well, this is just part of the future of food exhibit. i know you guys are going to be kind of part of the cultivating, meet the future

of food aspect to the to the exhibit. it opens this weekend. guys are going to have to try some of this, some of the meatball. i wish i could send it up to you, but because i can't, that's too bad. i have to eat it myself. and you're gonna have to take my word for it. all right, we will. back to you. thanks, ginger. this early in the morning? we definitely will. yeah. later in the afternoon to. maybe that wasn't necessarily. look, whatever floats your boat, but i will eat a lot of things. but i just don't enjoy talking about the chemistry or the biology behind it regenerated me. i'm spoiled. yeah. you mean you don't want to see how the sausage. i don't know what that should be. a phrase that we use more often. i'm old school. just put it on my plate. let measte it. if i like it, i'm gonna eat it. if not, we'll move on. all right. a lot of people having breakfast this morning hopefully didn't spoil their appetite. yeah. let's talk about the forecast, though. you're waking up to aittle bit of rain, but it's going to eventually move out. it's going to be moving out. and it's perfect timing too because we're getting some much needed rainfall. but also it's clearing out before the weekend.
6:49 am
let me show you the reason why we are desperately in need of this rain, especially across southern california. that's because inhe red, all of this highlighting indicates the extreme drought that continues a little bit closer to the bay area. there is a moderate drought from parts of the central valley all the way down to the central coast, but for the east bay, it's not quite a drought, it's just abnormally dry. so we are seeing the hit or miss rain coming through. it is helping us out a little bit. this storm system still spinnin across the area and bringing us some light showers and in some spots it has been coming down pretty hard. so as you're seeing that rain passing through, it won't last that long and it is making it for a wet drive. as you're going from novato down to mill valley, and we're going to see that rain passing on through some spotty rain for parts of the east bay. but where we are getting the much heavier rain is right around hayward to union city, extending down toward fremont. and that's right on 880. now, as we take a look at
6:50 am
parts of the south bay into the east bay, we are seeing some rain changing over to snow for those elevations above 3000ft. so that's all the different colors that you're seeing there. and you can follow along at home as well. if you have the nbc bay area app. and looking at what storm ranger is picking up on, it's right over south san francisco down to pacifica. we are seeing some hit or miss rain, but take a look at this view. this is beautiful. as we're seeing the sun rising and it's just below the clouds. but also you can see that cloud deck that's been rolling by. so we are going to see a chance of some of those spotty showers, partly cloudy skies a cool start this morning. and really it's going to be a chilly day. so we're just having to keep those layers on as we take it hour by hour. with our forecast throughout the day. still some pop-up showers and even the potential of some thunderstorms and some of these cells that will be moving through with this cold core storm system that's passing by. and as we go into the afternoon, rain chances

decrease. and for the weekend we're going to see temperatures increasing. so it's going to be a nice one ahead as high pressure brieflyoves in and warms up the bay area. but then as we go into early next week, rain chances coming back fairly quickly and once again heading farther to the south across southern california, giving them some much needed rn. but then by the middle of next week, we could all be getting a heavy downpour as well as more sierra snow as our next atmospheric river comes in between wednesday and thursday, so we'll be watching out for that. meanwhile, just enjoying the mix of sun and clouds that we'll see today and warmer weather for the weekend. although it will be cold in the morning starting out in the 30s, we'll head for the 60s and in san francisco, also clearing out but expecting more rain next week. mike, you were checking out the san mateo bridge bogging down? yes, the volume thing. not any incidents on the span, although we had earlier flashing lights and lane restrictions. everything looks like it's cleared as far as any activity on the san mateo
6:52 am
bridge. and now it's the activity itself that's causing the slowing. more activity, more cars coming off the nimitz, as well as down toward the dumbarton bridge, where we may see some more slowing. we see both 880 and 680 with the volume volume building coming off of 580 and heading south and toward the south bay. no surprises for the pattern there, but most of that green highlighting some slicker roadways. so do watch the areas. the whole quadrant right here. pretty standard. we see more slowing through walnut creek for south 680 and west 24, and through lafayette moraga here, north 880 does slow quite a bit. there's a crash blocking one lane as you're approaching broadway, and it sounds like it's still there. so that's the reason for some slowing heading into downtown oakland. the rest of the bay moves well. the south bay, of course, seeing the volume build. back to you. all right. thanks so much, mike. happening now, alameda county supervisors looking for clarity on the pending sale of the oakland coliseum complex this afternoon. they're holding a closed door meeting to get an update. they're also promising to provide some comments. following that meeting in january, they signed off on a term sheet, greenlighting selling the property for $125
