vta workers go on strike overnight as contract negotiations stall. bus and light rail service shut down. we're tracking the impact for commuters in the south bay. it's verypsetting. you know, you just feel, you know, personally. you violated workers and customers, robbed at gunpoint at a bay area spa. the frightening
5:01 am
robbery caught on camera. and the reward the owner is now offering for an arrest. and our spring-like weekend will soon be giving way to rain. we're tracking incoming wet weather on the move this week. this is today in the bay. i was just getting used to the sunshine. good morning to you on this monday. i'm marcus washington, and i'm laura garcia. we'll check that monday commute. it's the first monday after the start of daylight savings. we'll see who's late or tired this morning. ana is in for kari. good to have you. thanks. i did walk in. asking, is a coffee machine work? is it working? is it rocking and rolling? yeah, we do have some rain that we're anticipating heading into the upcoming days, but i do want to get. we're at right now with our temperatures and what we can expect for the rest of your afternoon in san jose, at about 44 degrees, you'll notice a nice mix of sun and clouds. here. we've got 50s by about 12:00 and
5:02 am
today will be dry, so you won't have to worry about the rain heading into this afternoon. but as we inch closer in towards the middle of the workweek, these temperatures are going to change. . and althgh today we're going to get a spring area, you will be seeing a change that's going to come not only with temperatures, but also the rain and sierra snow expected in through parts of the bay area. so i will give you a closer look at the time stamp coming up in just a few minutes. first, let's get a check of traffic with mike. yeah. good morning. it's a great clear view and clear drive across the bay bridge. pretty much all around the bay. i do want to take you to the map. show you a great start for contra costa county. we often worry about some of the longer drives for highway four. no problems out of antioch. it is down in the south bay where for about 20 minutes we had a crash that was active on the chp report. i say, was it just got word from chp? they cleared all lanes from an earlier crash involving a big rig north 101 at the shoreline off ramp. we see a
5:03 am
little slowing here. southbound 85. it's just a blip. i believe we'll track that throughout the south bay, but traffic is light right now. back to you. thank you very much, mike. well, developing right now, vta service halted this morning after workers launched a strike, leaving commuters across the south bay scrambling. the union says an estimated 1600 drivers and rail operators walked off the job at midnight. the union also says this is the first time in about 60 years vta workers have gone on strike. it is expected to impact an estimated 100,000 people. right now, it is an open ended strike with no plans on either side for new contract talks. ahead of the deadline, workers accused the agency of not addressing critical issues after six months of talks. vta, meantime, reiterated a fair offer is already on the table, including a 9% raise spread out over three years. the primary thing that we're focusing on is, is the fact that, you know, that we need to have a clear and fair
5:04 am
conflict resolution process. we did make our best and last final offer a few days ago, and a2 has not endorsed it. and so they notified us of their intention to strike sometime tonight after midnight. and the most important thing at this point is to make sure that our passengers know that they may not have public transit service. it is important to note vta's paratransit service is not impacted by the strike because those operators are part of a different union. our kris sanchez is at vta headquarters looking closer at the commute impact. she'll have a live report coming up in our next half hour. pivotal week lies ahead in washington. this time, lawmakers are staring down the possibility of a federal government shutdown, and it comes with a new round of tariffs set to kick in on those goods from china. today in the bay's alice barr live for us in washington this morning. and alice, i know the white house tried to fend off the growing talks there around a potential recession. yeah. marcus, a lot. we're tracking again this

morning related to the economy and added into the mix this risk of a potential government shutdown this week adding more uncertainty as the trump administration is looking to reassure. two big deadlines this week as more tariffs are set to take effect on wednesday before congress must pass a government funding bill by friday or face a government shutdown could happen. president trump, acknowledging the risk while voicing confidence in a short term funding bill, house speaker mike johnson aims to bring for a vote tomorrow. it includes an increase in defense spending with cuts in other areas, but faces republican criticism already. the cr is terrible on defense and the border, even if the slim gop majorityy can carry the bill through the house, it would require yes votes from some senate democrats outraged over potential cuts to health care and food assistance, and over those cuts, they argue, strip away congressional

authority until i see some assurances that whatever we pass next week is going to ensure that the money is spent the way. congress intends. i'm going to i'm going to withhold my vote until i see that that as president trump was asked in a fox news interview whether he expects a recession this year, i hate to predict things like that. there is a period of transition because what we're doing is very big. his commerce secretary more clear cut. there's going to be no recession in america, both defending the administration's tariff policy with a new 25% tariff on all steel and alumim imports into the u.s. set to kick in this week. i think the tariffs are going to be the greatest thing we've ever done as a country. the president, arguing his sweeping tariff plans will bring back lost american factories and jobs long term, as u.s. businesses and consumers brace for short term pain. and again, the concern here that u.s.
5:07 am
businesses will pass higher prices on to consumers. that's always the issue when we're talking about tariffs. that is, the trump administration is considering additional tariffs on canadian lumber and dairy products on top of the 25% levy already slapped onto most canadian goods. canada among the trading partners now retaliating with tariffs of its own. marcus certainly something to continue to follow. hey, alice, before you go, i want to ask you about i know over the weekend or there was that concern this morning anyway that the detail there for the president there. they confronted an armed man over the weekend over near the white house. yeah, this was definitely a concern over the weekend. this all happened around midnight east coast time on sunday. the secret service says their agents shot a man following an armed confrontation with law enforcement. the agency says they were notified over the weekend about a suicidal person traveling to d.c. law enforcement officials say the suspect is 27 year old andrew dawson. he reportedly lives in indiana and was taken to the
5:08 am
hospital. his condition is not known this morning. it is worth noting that president trump was at mar a lago while all of this was going on. he was not here in washington. marcus. all right. thank you. alice barr from washington this morning. alice. thank you. the owner of a south bay spa offering his own reward to track down armed robbers who terrorized workers and customers over the weekend. the incident was caught on security video. get on the ground right now. this is the moment the gunman stormed into foot. lax foot and body massage saturday night in milpitas. the owner says it actually started moments before when someone in dark clothes arrived who had previously booked an appointment. the two suspects then corralled customers and therapists stealing money and valuables as people in therapy rooms tried to keep their doors shut. so here's the first offender. so he's
5:09 am
pushing the people around trying to open the doors. laila. the other ones with the gun there. the owner says one person was injured. he's also offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. police say investigators are now following several leads. happening today, some big changes for a busy stretch of freeway in solano county. starting today, a new express lane opens on interstate 80. it's going to run westbound between 505 interchange and vacaville and air base parkway in fairfield. crews are still working on toll collection devices. now, the lanes will be open to all vehicles with two or more people, and caltrans expects it to be fully operational before the end of the year. let's take a live look at san francisco on this monday morning. what will the week hold for us? a fresh start? no. you know what? let's check in with
5:10 am
vianey. she is in for kari this morning. how are we looking today? we're coming off a glorious weekend. it really was, you know, and that's what we hope to continue for the first half of this week before we transition into a change with some return of the rain and also wind and more sierra snow. that will be beneficial for the sierra snowpack. live. look right now in walnut creek. we're starting our monday off dry and our temperatures aren't too cold. fairly mild start throughout the bay area. and if you were in downtown san jose, or if you were in san francisco, the weekend really was nice. now we do have a live look right now in downtown san jose. now we are expecting for this system making its impact into wednesday and thursday to really bring some rain not only to parts of the north or in san francisco, but also in san jose. so let's get a look right now at san francisco, because the winds are also expected to pick up heading into the middle of the week. and as we transition into an active weather pattern, we will be seeing our skies change and the
5:11 am
wind will be of concern for the coastal areas, but also for some of those higher mountain peaks. and we are expecting to see also a drop in temperatures as a cold front associated with it could bring a nice boost for, as i mentioned, the sierra. so we'll go into more detail on what we can expect for the long range outlook. but for today, folks, it's monday. i know we lost an hour of sleep this weekend. you don't have to worry about any wet pavement, at least not for now. let's get a check off how those gas prices are doing with mike. maybe some good news. i saw some price points easing over the weekend. vianey let's brighten the monday for some alameda county residents. 3.89 is the best price in that county. in pleasanton gulf on first street. meanwhile, in the south bay is the middle price. here we're showing a low of 408. that continues from last week. mo's stop on camden avenue, where we shout out this morning and marin county checks in there with their best at mill valley for 25 at the arco on redwood highway. you can check your area and hopefully some positive changes or some negative, i guess. lower changes. gasbuddy.com on the roadways,
5:12 am
we're holding steady with the speed limit represented by the green sensors for most of the bay. we had a crash in northbound 101 at marsh. it looks like all lanes are clear. there was some debris. chp said that will clear up. there may be some clatter because they're saying it will dissipate with traffic as those taillights you see here at university travel north past the marsh at the top of the screen shouldn't be a problem, but just note that back to you. all right. thanks, mike. california homeowners may be poised to lose thousands of dollars in tax credits. that's because changes may be on the way when it comes to solar power incentives. ahead at 625, the potential jobs on the line and the industry's new plea to the white house. plus, lots of protests over the weekend, once again against tesla. we'll take a look at that closely. out to the futures this morning. look at that. read more problems for the stock market. and we're getting ready for a rare lunar event. the chance this week to watch the moon turn red before your very eyes.

plan for a bitcoin reserve. on friday, tesla stock fell below where it was when trump came into office. and elon musk gained all that power. there were protests outside tesla showrooms all over the u.s. this weekend. this one in san francisco, but also boston. miami, a really big one in chicago, saw dozens of police officers holding a line around the tesla store. tesla also getting saturday night live's attention. experts say that president trump's tariffs will raise the cost of a new car by as much as $12,000, or you can get a free tesla. since people are throwing them away. also over the weekend, musk raised the possibility of taking starlink internet away from ukraine and called the polish foreign minister a, quote, small man. it got bad enough. u.s. secretary of state marco rubio had to step in on social media. the tesla ceo also said he had challenged russia, russian president vladimir putin to a fight one on one physical combat, he called it. you may
5:17 am
remember musk challenged mark zuckerberg to a fistfight, only to quickly back down after zuckerberg agreed. musk said at the time he was recovering from back surgery. donald trump was asked if a recession was coming on fox business news. he demurred. some economists have sounded the alarm, pointing to rising costs, the uncertainty over tariffs and government layoffs. now, one of the great truths about recession is you don't know you're in one or on the edge of one until about three months in. the numbers we read all the time to you like unemployment. those look backwards, not forwards. of course, government is not a huge part of our economy, but that said, we will 150,000 gain this month would look pretty small relative to the number of jobs they're talking about cutting in the government, which is in the hundreds of thousands. so this may be one of the best job reports we see for this year. in other words, the next ones
5:18 am
aren't going to be so good. so yeah, you have leading indicators. you have trailing indicators. unfortunately, most of what happens is not like what vianey does. looking ahead. it's looking behind. all right. well speaking of looking, let's talk about this. get ready with your telescopes. because a so-called blood moon total lunar eclipse is expected to flush the brew the moon red this week. so it's expected to take place just before 1130 thursday night and last for about an hour. lunar eclipses happen when the moon, earth and sun align. in case you missed it, well, another one is expected to take place september 8th. all month long we are celebrating women's history month, and the san jose sharks are working to unite women throughout the bay area. team announcing the formation of the women of teal advisory committee. the group will work on initiative aims at amplifying the voices of women. over the weekend, the sharks held a pass the puck event, uniting fan base and collected donations for next door solutions, a domestic violence agency in santa clara county. many also networked

writing advice for others on post-its and making friendship bracelets. women and girls all coming together to celebrate international womenen's day here at sap center. and so as we look toward the future, with the future being teal, we know that this sport and the sharks organization will continue to grow through evenings like this. of course, sharky stopped by with a little surprise for even the smallest of fans there. the sharks also gave me a great honor during the game, inviting me out onto the ice to offer some advice for women looking to grow their careers, to believe in yourself and believe that there is nothing you can't do. there is nothing you can't achieve. if you have a dream put in your mind, you need to go for it. the sharks took on the islanders, who did walk away with a win 4 to 2. up next, the nashville predators tomorrow at the shark tank. i have to say, it was so much fun. i got to take my girls and my sister came

as well. and so it was kind of like, you know, uniting women and having a great time. yeah, yeah, it looked like a lot of fun, too. it really, really was. it was great. our producer, ariel was there as well. you know, so it was women strong. yeah. great words too. and that's very important, the messaging. but i was also looking at your uniform. oh, that was cool. i meant to bring it today. they gave me a uniform. they asked me what my favorite number was. and of course, it's three. i've got triplets. and so it was garcia three. it was really cool. really really cool. i like that. yeah, it was cool hearing my daughters yell, are you like, green? nice. that's nice, because sometimes kids yell other things. that's what i heard. yeah. anyway, great night out there. great weekend. we've been saying. oh, it really has been pleasant. comfortable. you still get 1 or 2 more days to prep before the rain arrives. and, you know, the official start of spring isn't until the 20th. so we are still going to be seeing these winter storms. and if you look at the current temperatures right now in san

jose, south san jose, we're at 39 degrees. so a chilly morning and a lot of areas, including santa rosa up through parts of calistoga, napa, also in those 30s. and as we head into the afternoon, we will get a gradual warm up back up into the upper 60s. and right now on satellite, i want to show you our next impact heading into wednesday. first, before we get an active weather pattern setting up into the weekend. notice right out here churning in the pacific, we're going to see the arrival of our next winter storm. and as we inch into tonight and tomorrow, you'll notice a boost in the clouds, especially around the coastal area. tonight into tomorrow, all likely seeing some patchy areas of fog as well, along with some high clouds at times. but it will be dry today and tomorrow. we're going to see warmer temps today, and that's pretty normal with that ridge of high pressure that settled in over the weekend. rain and wind will return into wednesday and then as we inch ahead towards
5:22 am
next weekend. looking way out ahead, a chance for isolated thunderstorms as that instability continues to increase into friday, saturday and sunday. this is how we're setting up right now. look at all of that wintry mix. that's where you're seeing the pinks and the blues that is sierra snow. the impacts of this next system on wednesday will be lighter with the rain totals. however, friday, saturday and sunday it's going to extend not only through parts of northern california, also central and southern california as well. so definitely impacting some travel conditions along the grapevine. likely we typically see a lot of that black ice right around frazier park stretching in through friday and saturday. so just a look ahead at your 7-day forecast. look how active we start to settle in. once we hit wednesday. it gets gusty. those isolated thunderstorms continue into thursday. and then as we get really into that friday, saturday, sunday set up, we continue to get a ton of rain. this is going to bring concerns for not only, you know, isolated
5:23 am
thunderstorms, but also the potential for flooding and sliding up through parts of the north bay especially. all right, let's get a check of how traffic is doing. mike. all right. vianey. well, that's dramatic changes potentially in the future. but right now the present is looking great. the san mateo bridge over the high rises, tail lights westbound to the peninsula. no disruption. that's right here on highway 92. dumbarton bridge to the south in the south bay. light easy traffic coming out of the altamont pass. we have a little bit of slowing. that's really the only place we see anything but the gre sensors. we're checking highway four into concord there. so there we go. little blips right here, coming out of bay point as well as highway 37. typical slowing out of vallejo for west 37. we've t morego

is pleading with president donald trump and republicans in congress to keep the thousand that keep the thousands of dollars in incentives for homeowners. during the address to congress last week, the president called clean energy tax credits the green new scam. right now, the residential clean energy credit is equal up to 300% of the cost of green tech like solar panels is still in place. but that could change with new legislation from congress. the trade group that represents the solar industry tells us that those tax credits have fueled the more than 80,000 jobs here in california, over $110 billion in investment and panels capable of combined 50gw of power, which is enough for 15

million homes. i would say, mr. president, you know, we believe wholeheartedly in your vision for american energy dominance. and one element of that american energy dominance is solar and storage. we are here to win, and we are here to create js. we're here to manufacture domestically. and we need every electron, every source of energy that we can get. so let's not pick and choose among energy sources. allow us all to grow and meet america's growing energy needs. so if you're thinking about installing solar on your home, the irs website explains how that 30% tax credit would work to save you thousands of dollars on your installation. 27 after the hour, we've got a lot more ahead at 530, including an aggressive plan from san jose's mayor to combat homelessness in his city. the steps he's taking to try to get people off the streets. also in the south bay, a vta strike is now underway. bus operators.

live with the impact already being felt and the latest on where negotiations stand. president trump asked if we are headed towards recession. we'll have his answer coming up. and weather dry for now. but that's going to change. meteorologist vianey arana is here. following the rain chances this week. this is today in the bay. just by habit. i almost called a kari kari hall kari hall whose birthday is today. yes it is. i was, that's what it was, i was thinking. there we go. so good thing she's got theay off. yes she does. happy monday to you all. i'm marcus washington and i'm laura garcia, and that's why vianey arana is in this morning bringing a little bit of sunshine of her own. good to see you. thanks. and, yes, happy birthday to kari. you know, i hope that she enjoys her day, enjoys the little pieces of sunshine we've got left before we transition into an active weather setup that will bring rain, snow and wind. now temperatures waking up right now
5:32 am
in the 40s and the 50s. we do have some areas with some 30s. oakland is at 43 right now. you will see an increase in that cloud cover starting tonight into tomorrow. it's about 46 right now in san francisco. temperature wise will be a little bit warmer today than we were yesterday. and then the return of rain and wind heading into late tuesday. we'll start to get some drizzle light activity into early wednesday morning. that will then become a weaker atmospheric river, before a more impactful one makes its arrival into the end of the week. i don't know how i feel about the meteorologist saying impactful. the roads. the roads. right now they're dry. the scariest part, to be honest, for me anyway. now from california, we're doing well right now. we had the time change over the weekend. and so as we take a look at this traffic flow, we're noticing it bump up a bit. but sometimes after a time change springing forward, we sometimes see a little lag in the commute. so far, everything looks like it's about on schedule. highway 37 and highway four, in fact, may have kicked in a little bit early, so folks may have been motivated for that time change.
5:33 am
we'll see how things go. a lot of green sensors all around contra costa county and the north bay. as we look south, the highway interstate 580, we're watching north flynn road. there is a crash reported. move to the shoulder very quickly. a roadside fire reported on a106 80 just off of 101 down in the south bay. no major impact and no buildings involved, from what i understand. we are looking at vasco road with the sudden build a couple minutes coming out of contra costa county, though. back to you. all right, mike, thank you. well, today marks day one of a transit strike in the south bay, which stands to disrupt the commute of more than 100,000 vta riders today in the bay's kris sanchez. live for us at one of the five picketing spots in san jose. dark and early for us, kris. but i'm sure things are going to ramp up a little bit later. well, good morning to you, marcus. so this stri hapned, started just a minute after midnight. it's off to a bit of a slow start at this location, but there are people here marching with signs talking about why the are striking this morning. these are some of the 1600 bus and light rail operators that will be off the
5:34 am
job for the foreseeable future. now, after six months of negotiation, the amalgamated transit union local two, six, five and the vta could not reach a deal on wages and benefit costs and conflict resolution processes. now, each side told us they submitted their best and final offer and as we reported last week, their contract expired last week. no new talks are scheduled at this point. and so 100,000 people a day will be stuck in the middle until something happens. i'm going to have to find a ride. now, i kind of really depend on getting everywhere on the bus right now, so that's going to be a big change for me, and i honestly have no idea what i'm going to do. i won't be going to the movies or out to eat. i'll just stay at home. they should never strike because people need them to get to work. now, if you use vta paratatransit, hat service will not be impacted because they are under a different
5:35 am
contract. but again, atu local 265. they are at this location at three four other locations throughout the city and in mountain view. so a big impact this morning for at least 100,000 people a day in in san jose. kris sanchez today in the bay. that's going to make an impact across the south bay this morning. two probably more people in their cars. thank you chris. now we are following this situation both on air as well as online. make sure you download our free nbc bay area news app. this way you're going to get those updates sent straight to your device. and of course, you can watch us streaming 24/7 on roku and many other platforms. well, happening today, san jose mayor matt mahan introduces what advocates argue is a far more aggressive strategy to solve the city's homeless crisis. last week, he first outlined his new responsibility to shelter initiative. today, he's expected to introduce his measure to the city council as part of a larger budget address. it would require unsheltered people to accept
5:36 am
interim housing or face the risk of arrest if they refuse the offer of housing within three times of 18 months. it's scheduled for debate next week. 35 after the hour. strong words for president donald trump this morning from canada's next prime minister. scott mcgrew mark carney says that trump's treatment of canada actually helped bring him into office. yeah, right. i mean, the liberal party in canada had been in trouble. its longtime leader, justin trudeau, had fallen out of favor. conservatives were on the rise. and then president trump started heckling canada, calling its prime minister a governor, saying it should be the 51st u.s. state. and all of a sudden, the liberals in canada were back. the party voted to replace its current leader, just trudeau, with mark carney, a man who has never held office before. but he's well versed in the government and the economy. he's run both the canadian central bank and the bank of england has a phd from oxford. he says he's ready to
5:37 am
take on those threats from the white house. we didn't ask for this fight. we didn't ask for this fight. but canadians are always ready when someone else drops the gloves. so the americans, they should make no mistake in trade, as in hockey canada will win. klose way. now canada, as you know, has a parliamentary system. so a very small number of people in the dominant party can vote a prime minister into office. now he doesn't have to because he's going to be the next prime minister. but carney is expected to call for national elections against the conservatives later this year, which he's expected to win. the u.s. house will vote tomorrow on another continuing resolution to keep the government open past friday. speaker johnson needs every republican vote to get it done. many republican members of congress have sworn they will not vote for another continuing resolution. they want a budget. the cr, as it's written, will
5:38 am
cut funding for most programs, but increased funding for the military. there's a worry that a lack of an actual budget will affect future military strength, because it can't plan for new projects. china will begin its tough tariffs against american agricultural products today. put in place after we put new tariffs on them. american corn, wheat, beef, chicken all cost more in china. nebraska farmers have noticed protests in lincoln and tiktok trend. does anybody care about nebraska? president trump was on fox business news sunday. maria bartiromo asked the president if he. we were headed towards recession. the president demurred, said, quote, i hate to predict things like that. there will be a period of transition as government cuts. workers trade suffers through tariffs. you said, look, we're going to have a disruption, but we're okay with that. is that what you meant? the stock market going down was the disruption. what other disruption were you alluding to? look, what i have
5:39 am
to do is build a strong country. you can't really watch the stock market if you look at china. they have a 100 year perspective. we have a quarter. we go by quarters. that's true. and you can't go by that. there's going to be no recession in america. but there's going to be his global tariffs are going to come down because president trump has said you want to charge us 100%. we're going to charge you 100%. and you know what they say. they say, no, no, no, no, no, don't charge us 100%. we'll bring ours down. now that hasn't actually happened. 100% tariffs are exceedingly rare and don't describe mexico or canada. we do charge a 100% tariff on chinese built cars. world bank data shows bermuda has the world's highest general rates of tariffs. laura 23%. so much to watch. thank you very much, scott. 39 after the hour, let's take a peek outside a live look across the bay area on this monday morning. we're going to check on the forecast in just a moment, but want to check in with mike inouye right now because you're tracking a big
5:40 am

socially distance. it caught on, and since 2021 it has been closed to cars on weekends and back open on weekdays. it was put on the ballot in november and it passed 55% to 45%. the coastal commission has since approved the permit, so starting friday, the upper great highway will be closed to cars for good. it's unfortunate that the great highway is closing because it's a commute that i take personally, but i do love running, so this is honestly a good opportunity to run. i'm super stoked about it. it's great. we like to get out here because there's a lot less traffic and i'm very nervous about riding near traffic, so i think this will be good for me. the two mile stretch from lincoln to sloat will become the city's newest oceanfront park. the city urging people to submit ideas about what it should be named. san francisco is taking suggestions until march 16th, with the new park set to open on april 12th. and i know some people are sharing their

the clouds first before the arrival of the rain. and now san jose's 44 degrees right now. visibility is good. ten miles. no issues there on the roads and satellite showcasing. just a couple high clouds rolling through, but the weather pattern still remaining dry as that high pressure that brought us lovely sunshine over the weekend remains over the entire state of california. and here's what's churning. we've got this atmospheric river. we're going to have two systems, one a bit stronger than the other, one associated with the cold front. that will bring a boost in the rain and also a boost in the snow. today for the afternoon, we're going to get a high of about 69. nearing the 70 degree mark in san jose, 63 for san francisco. another day where it will feel like spring. and here's what the long range outlook right n. today dry tomorrow. dry tomorrow night. we start to shift, seeing some drizzle around the coast. and the first system will really pack a punch into wednesday. wednesday afternoon expect to see rain all day. the winds will also begin to kick up and then
5:53 am
heading into wednesday and thursday, the rain will continue with that active pattern. but thursday into friday we get a brief break before we get a more impactful storm system that will make its arrival in time for the weekend. so friday, saturday and sunday we can expect to see rain in addition to the rain. we're keeping a close eye on the winds now. tomorrow will still be rather calm with the wind speed. by wednesday afternoon that will all change. we're going to start to navigate into wind advisory categories. look at san francisco 34 plus, but also down through the south bay and some of those higher elevation areas. now, as we inch into wednesday, that first storm, that will be the first of many. and it's not going to pack too much of a punch with the rain totals, we're going to see anywhere from about a quarter to less than half an inch for most. however, i advance this all the way through the weekend and that will change. look at how much rain will accumulate by that point. we've got over three inches, likely even four inches for some of those higher peaks.
5:54 am
and let me show off the snow about 29in for that first storm on wednesday. but look what could happen by the time we get into the weekend. 60 plus inches for the sierra. talk about fresh powder. this is what it looks like right now so start getting prepped for that rain. first, let's get a look at the roads with mike. that's a beautiful picture right there. well, this is a normal picture. a standard backup at the bay bridge. things are shaping up pretty much on its regular timing pattern. kind of watch that. after a time change like this, when we do lose an hour, right? we'e're eing some slowing through. richmond. typical build highway 37 highway 4 continue to show the volume coming down through pleasanton as well. no problem. walnut creek interchange 680 corridor heading south of there, down through the tri-valley and easy drive north 101 shows a typical slowing as well, but reminder for the entire south bay that vta, the worker strike, is going on, so no busses or light rail until further notice. you're watching kntv. stick
