here. i don't look forward to getting my mail anymore. bills or ads, that's it. but a lot of you are getting mail that seems much more interesting. like brenda, i have done mystery shopper programs in the past, i received an e-mail to participate in one. this employer followed it up with a letter and sent brenda this check for $1985. and another viewer, i received this check in the mail for a car i'm selling, the amount is $2500, it's likely more than the purchase price. i'm trying to find out if it's a scam and if this check is real both checks have business names, come from legitimate banks and both are completely fake. no exaggeration. i get one of these complaints on average every single day. you deposit the check, you're asked to send or wire money somewhere else, the check is bad three days later, your money is gone. any large check for work you haven't done, a contest you haven't entered or overpayment for something you're selling is fake. so that's large checks. t.j. writes about a small check, just checking to see if he thought this was a scam. i didn't want to cash it and
5:19 am
this one is for about $26. it's a supposed settlement with the federal trade commission. turns out this check is real for a settlement involving weight loss claims and green coffee bean extract. but t.j. it's a great question, even with small amount checks from sources you don't know, i would do research before putting that in the bank. i'm investigator joe ducey. have a great day. you got a problem, let me know. >> thanks, joe. you know we will. hundreds rushed to evacuate when fast growing wildfire kicks up in california. >> yeah, the pilot fire, this actually started as a 30-acre brush fire but it's now quickly spread to 1500 acres. evacuations were issued yesterday afternoon in the summit valley area that's in san bernardino county. more than 350 firefighters are battling this wildfire and it is still not clear how this even started. >> they cannot catch a break in the golden state, right, for california. run season already. an update on the soberanes

contained, more than 5000 crew members still battling the flames there, 57 homes have been destroyed. let's turn our attention to your most accurate forecast on this monday morning here. we are in for some big changes this week. good morning to you if you're just joining us here. here's a look at futurecast. i'm going to press play on it and we will track together what's going to be happening. for us today here in the valley, we are going to be staying pretty dry. that doesn't mean the whole state is. you see we have chances for isolated showers out to the well, that will start to clear out overnight. we will keep some chances out there to the east but for us in the valley we are not going to be dealing with anything like that. now, tomorrow that's when things sort of start to kick off but a slow start, we will start to see a little bit of moisture move in by your morning commute. we are going to keep rain chances pretty low, though, tomorrow, slight for us there. because we are looking out for pockets like this here. we will still keep those rain chances up to the north and then look as we continue to take this on in through the rest of the evening, you still
5:21 am
in here, so that's going to kick up our rain chances pretty good, at least on wednesday and thursday, so we are going to be looking out for those days to be some of the highest days that we have those rain chances. meantime, i want to show you what this is going to do to our temperatures. today well above average because we are staying dry, right? we are kind of under this hot air right now. 109 degrees, 105 is average. we start to drop by tomorrow and then we are dropping even more so on wednesday. 95 degrees, you might think that would be nice, right? but not so much in the 70s, so it is going to feel very muggy and sticky out there. as a matter of fact, we are calling it the highest category oppressive. by wednesday through thursday because of this system. now, coming up in just a few minutes we are going go over the bigett hazards that we will see from these upcoming changes. your freeways are still pretty quiet as far as any delays or anything like that. take a look at the big map here, you're seeing all green but i do want to give you a heads up that in scottsdale we have a stalled vehicle right now on loop 101. it's on the northbound side of
5:22 am
mountainview road, a little bit north of the inlet is where you're going to see this and it is blocking the right lane so make sure you stay to the left to get by that but traffic is still light in the area that i'm not seeing any huge slowing because of that. i do want to hop over and give you a look at i-17, maybe you're thanking this southbound this morning heading into town right now, eight minute desert drive times, southbound from dunlap off to democratic dowel -- to mcdowell. a closer look at your east valley drive in a 5:22. we are used to seeing perhaps woody allen's projects up on the big screen but there is a new small screen project that has an interesting supporting cast. and coming up at 5:30, if you are heading down south this morning, there's a road closure you really need to know about. investigators right now on scene of a deadly crash. plus the line is growing

5:31 am
first where we are going to be hotter than this weekend. i want to pull up our mayo valley camera here because i thought that's a beautiful shot before the sun comes up. i thought that was really nice there, a few clouds in the sky. we are going to keep things mostly clear for us today. 92 degrees, very mild and warm start to the day. by 9:00 a.m. we continued that warming trend when we are at 94 degrees, here's a quick snapshot of your commuter forecast as you head out today, you will need that ac and even more so later on going home. look at this, our temps will about 106 to 109 across the valley. we are dealing with extreme uv as well. coming up i'm going to show you how the rest of the week is stacking up. more on the changes too. allison, as far as your commute goes it's quiet. i pulled up this adot camera in the east valley. a stall on us-60 so this is as you're traveling westbound at country club. even though it's not blocking traffic it's getting a little bit heavier out there so you might want to slide to the right, give them extra place but not blocking traffic this morning in the east valley.
5:32 am
at our traffic map right now. we can show you some of the delays you could see but you're not seeing -- our east valley not seeing any delays of really from that stall again at country club and really taking a look at the big picture, the rest of the valley looks exact same. we don't have any crashes. we have a stall in scottsdale on the 101. give you a look at that next. now to the breaking news at 5:30 that we told you about this morning on abc15.com. it's about that deadly armed robbery, a convenience. the shooter on the run at this very moment. justin pazera is on the scene with what we need to know what happened at 16th street and southern. justin. >> reporter: getting a better look at the scene this morning. it all started at this parking lot here at the 7-eleven. that's where one of the clerks was out here in this parking lot when that armed robber came face to face with him. he forced that one clerk inside that 7-eleven. that's where he was ordering him to take all of the cash out
5:33 am
gunpoint. there was another clerk inside of this 7-eleven when all of this was going on. that armed robber forced both of them in a backroom. they were laying on the ground at gunpoint. now, it's not clear exactly what happened at this point, but for some reason that suspect shot one of the clerks, killing him. his body is still inside that store. now, that other clerk was able to jump up, run outside, that suspect following right behind him. now, we really don't have a suspect at this point. we know he was wearing dark clothes. he had on red gloves and he had a mask that was covering his face. now, in the last few minutes we have seen detectives here. they are inside that store taking a lot of photos around that cash register. we can see them in the backroom taking photos also. phoenix police urging everyone, this is a very busy area, possibly you saw something, if you think you saw something out of the ordinary, of course call

you what we are finding out this morning. we are hearing from mcso that they were called out to this home off of 111th avenue and olive. neighbors tell us they saw children running down the street. they were banging on doors and screaming for help at the time. now, one neighbor told us she saw the victim's older sister, she was bleeding, she was pale and she looked like she had been through something absolutely horrifying. >> t mother and a grandmother, i can tell you that my heart was absolutely, you know, that the mother, of course, who had no idea what had happened was going to be showing up and finding out the news and i don't think anybody should have to go through something like that. it was -- >> reporter: meantime, we are learning that sheriff joe arpaio is going to be speaking about what happened, hopefully shedding some light on exactly what the case was and hopefully giving us some answers on just heart breaking tragedy out here in the west valley this morning.

5:37 am
the ticket counter. now we know that all flights right now are cancelled with delta. we have been told that there was a power outage in atlanta that actually took the system down and it has caused those flight delays worldwide. it's kind of like being locked out of your computer lock-in when you forget your password. this outage so bad, flight status systems like the one here in sky harbor cannot actually show that all the flights have been cancelled or delayed. that's why if you check them at home on your smartphone, it will say it's actually on time. right now delta says you are cancelled or significantly delayed, you can actually call this 1-800-number and they will rebook your flight for free. this is what they are handing out to all the passengers today. the best piece of advice, call this number if you have a flight with delta today. but the cancellations even when they get up and running, that system will still be widespread delays throughout the day. chris. >> it's a mess in atlanta, their hub right now, so no flights are taking off from
