it's i-10 westbound off on the side. if you see flashing lights off on the side of the freeway, that's what that is. we will get a closer look at i- 17 in just a couple minutes. a hazmat situation in chandler, fire crews say two chemicals were in a dumpster at a metal cleaning business near chandler and kyrie. they mixed and caused a fire and firefighters did what the with water. something was different this time and very dangerous. >> normally when you put water on fire, you have a certain color of smoke and then when it starts to generate a brownish yellow color of smoke it's an indication that something is not going correctly. >> they were taken to the hospital mostly as a precaution. authorities are investigating why the chemicals ended up together in the dumpster in the

developing this morning, 40 foster care -- kids were pulled from a group home yesterday as part of an ongoing investigation. the powerhouse you facility -- youth facility had a reported case of child on child sex abuse about a month ago. staff increased safety procedures after that but now all the kids are gone. >> the way they handled this was not about the kids. they have rushed to judgment and caused more trauma to the kids that were taken care of -- that we are taking care of and trying to protect. >> officials say the kids are currently in what they call an appropriate placement. i want to get back to break -- breaking news in the far east valley where firefighters seem to have had a difficult time getting water to a mobile home fire this morning.

in apache junction. what is the latest there? >> you can still see firefighters on scene, just really -- in the far east valley. the home on this property that you can't see that's to the left of us. but i just spoke with the camera -- i just spoke with the fire chief who said they are making sure nothing else is going to catch fire. the good news here is that the homes they can but firefighters still had to do a quick check on that to make sure nobody was inside. they will go back and make sure that's indeed the fact. as for what started it, they say it's not clear right now. they've put up crime scene tape in the last few minutes but they are still trying to figure out if this fire is suspicious and exactly what -- what caused it.

you've got a problem couple let me know. let's talk about the forecast as you are getting ready to head out the door. no worries on the weather, it's all dry on the weather doppler all across the valley. the only spot where i am seeing a few storms right now is in southeast arizona where we also are looking at a flood advisory because of the heavy rain down south, so something i will be keeping an eye on, but the valley again is all dry through the morning and impacted will be pretty quiet through much of the day. it won't be until this evening, but especially tonight that the rain chances go up. right no degrees and the mouse -- the most accurate forecasts will be another one -- another warm one and humid one as the humidity is going up today. 95 degrees by 10 am and then 98 degrees by noon and the hundred for us setting -- and the 100s said in. -- said in. today the high only makes it up to 104. the better potential will kick in as we go into

we get a 40% chance for rain and overnight tonight that chances surges to 70% for more whites -- whites which hours in the phoenix metro, and it's that -- 70% for more widespread showers in the phoenix metro. but here's the deal, any storms we managed to get over the next 24 to 48 hours could be big rainmakers for us. overall the numbers looking like yesterday, about a quarter to a half inch in several valley spots but a few spots could get just upwards of an inch of rain and again the potential is there for heavy rain with any storms to develop and especially in software southeast, that's where we could definitely see some flooding rainfall anywhere from tucson to casa grande and globe but you can see the flash flood watch does include the did -- the entire phoenix metro and that goes into effect by 5:00

officers say he was yelling at officers at one point and even was blocking the street there in that neighborhood at one point. the suspect was being led away in handcuffs and now custody being taken away -- now in custody, being taken away for a mental evaluation. a well-known horse veterinarian fell into an underground storage unit. >> the two people who tried to help him are in cr condition. they were called out when the three were found unconscious near carefree highway. the storage unit held grains and water from last weeks rain -- last week's rain was being drained. that caused the oxygen to fall below 4% which made it impossible for them to breathe. he died and the two others lost consciousness.

coming our way. here in arizona the bank is making a settlement in a case accusing the company of handing out bogus inter-trade investments all of -- nearly a decade ago. $140 million will be handed out to several states. barclays is the first under investigation to solve these crimes. they are looking into the actions of several other banks from 05209. the gender gap continues to widen even among the ultra rich according to a surv released. they found that in 2015 there were 8.4 male billionaires for everybody -- every female billionaire, up from 8.1 the year before. out of the 148 new billionaires in 2015, just eight of them were women. right now hundreds of flights are delayed as delta airlines is still dealing with this issue after the massive outage.

most of the state is actually quiet with the exception of these storms off tour south ride along that -- that mexico border near sierra vista. you can see just issued a flash flood warning for that area as we are getting very heavy rainfall that this is not moving toward the phoenix metro but rather staying in our area this morning. we are going to see the potential for more of those drenching storms over the next couple of days. we're tracking what is now a tropical division -- depression. javier will continue to move up the coast over the next few days and that is going to boost the moisture around our state and as families -- monsoon moisture goes up, the storm chances go up too. so most of today's fairly quiet but by today the storm chances start to go up and then overnighted to tomorrow, that's really -- overnight into tomorrow that's when the storm chances really serve -- surge. tomorrow driving home with just

meteorologist iris hermosillo is updating her forecasting models and will be joining us soon. more on that in moments but right now breaking news from this morning, the man accused of stabbing and killing americans in london is in court. he will face a judge and he's charged with the murder of a 64- year-old woman. the woman was darlene horton, as well as being charged with the murder of five others. darleen and her husband were in london where her husband was teaching abroad. three girls are recovering after they fell from a ferris wheel at a county fair in greene county tennessee. police say the basket somehow overturned and the girls fell about 40'. all three were taken to the hospital but were alert

news. all the rides at the fair are closed until further notice and the incident is under investigation. "breaking bad", maybe? a meth lab found under the ground in a siri new york. even stranger, it was found underneath a walmart parking lot . crews are still investigating because they don't know how long it was going on or who might've been running the operation. they hope surveillance cameras can help answer that a pic of drivers recovering after his vehicle went into a lake. he was trying to avoid a crash but instead went right over the side of a bridge. crews shut down the bridge for hours as they got the driver and the truck out of the lake but amazingly the driver of the truck was not injured. an abandoned home in new orleans is getting attention is the group tries to turn it into a hurricane katrina and -- museum. the organization is devoted to making sure new orleans in the u.s. have safe levees, and they

they still need city approval and they say that group -- the group says the project is expected to cost about $50,000. a couple in south dakota passed away within 20 minutes of each other. henry and jeanette were married for 63 years. jeanette suffered from alzheimer's and was put in a nursing home back in 2011 and henry went visit her -- would visit her several times a week. he was put in the same nursing home this past year. she died firs later her beloved husband took his last breath. in effect for people who live near a rapidly growing fire northeast of los angeles called the pilot fire. it's already burned 6300 acres as you look at the attack from the air there. they've ordered the evacuation of more than 5000 homes. firefighters do not know yet what started the fire but there are no reports of any injuries

lining there. breaking down breaking news just coming in from san diego where there's been some type of a building explosion. several people were injured including two first responders. it happened around 3:15 this morning. this is from our sister station in san diego, just posting this story. residents were going door to door to get everybody out of this situation. you can see the fire right up there, in the top left corner residents are disabled. first responders were seen carrying out the people. the fire by the way was contained to just a single unit, and the explosions were the result of oxygen tanks that caught fire and were exploding. we are just now seeing the update here, said to be minor but certainly -- amazing what they do, running to save lives. glad to hear they are expected to be okay.

that drowsy drivers are to blame for thousands of highway deaths every year. nearly 84,000,000 fatigued americans get behind a bill -- a wheel every single day. last year 5000 people were killed, teens and young adults blamed for more than half of those crashes. experts say the increase in teenage drowsy driving is partly due to digital up they recommend old solutions like lasting the radio, opening the window and making stops if you have to during those long drives. it gets even worse when the weather is tough. >> yes especially when there's wet weather across the state. there's no wet weather to impact your morning commute. i know we are just kind of gearing up for the new school year.
