deadly officer-involved shooting in mesa. police say this is connected to another investigation that started two days ago. maryellen resendez is joining us with more. were officers injured in this? >> reporter: we are told all the officers are going to be okay. according to police, those three officers surrounded the vehicle you see here. this is the suspect's vehicle. we understand they did some nd they say they knew the driver was armed and at one point they felt threatened. that's when a neighbor looked out his front window. >> he was about 55 years old. we suspected it was a drug- related incident. >> reporter: police say this actually started with a shooting that happened on thursday, where they say the driver, who was the suspect,

man. he was about 55 years old and that man was shot dead. when they caught up with this man yesterday and started following him, he began to speed up in the neighborhood. that's when they did what is called a pit maneuver and one of the neighbors was looking out the window. >> one of them went up one car into the front card. the other is right in front. i went out to see. figured someone is hurt. sounded like parked car or something, so i ran outside. as soon as i opened the door, i heard gunfire. >> reporter: detectives say there was a passenger in the car and that passenger was transported to the police station and is being questioned. we have not heard whether that passenger is under arrest or not. back to you. >> and we have calls in to police to learn more about the crash that had 12th and

police say a driver crashed into a woman who may have been walking in the street. she was taken to the hospital in critical condition. we have asked police if they plan to charge the driver but haven't heard yet. charred remains are all that's left of this mobile home at lindsey and main. firefighters attacked from all angles and it's unclear what sparked the fire. nobody was hurt but whoever lives there will need a new place to breaking overnight, police searching for the person who shot at a jack in the box driver through a window at the store off 36th and thomas. police say the car went through the drive through first then fired shots at the window. we are waiting for police to release a suspect and car description. look for updates online and on our free abc 15 mobile app. . not only were our animals

>> a north valley veterinarian who died when he fell into an underground grain storage will be laid to rest this morning. dr. bill tryon was honored last night, as many talked about how much he touched their lives. >> he just did so much for the community. you know, everybody up here knew him and loved him. >> those lanterns were let go to honor his neighbor as well, who died well as his assistant. this morning a renewed push for answers in the case of a real estate agent who vanished more than a year ago. the fbi is asking for tips on sydney cranston, jr. >> the bottom line is, sydney cranston, jr. is still missing. somebody knows where he is and we are pleading with the public

considering this a homicide investigation and offering $5,000 for information about his suspicious disappearance. in louisiana this morning heavy rain caused deadly flooding in the southeast part of the state. two people are dead and the governor declared a state of emergency. homes are filled with brown water and roads flow like rivers. southern mississippi is also getting hit hard. the rain started earlier this week and that more rain this weekend. in maryland police say they have found a third body after an explosion and a fire at an apartment complex. authorities are not saying who the victims are yet. police say they will pick up search and recovery efforts today. the explosion happened wednesday night. people could feel buildings shake more than a mile away. 34 people were hurt and taken to the hospital, including

are in custody accused of shooting and killing a police officer. 45-year-old officer jose chavez died friday after having surgery. reports show he pulled over a vehicle that was supposed to be a normal traffic stop. that's when a passenger got out and fired shots at his vehicle. the suspect ranker carjacked another vehicle, then shot that driver. officials are still investigating. tragedy in virginia, six people dead after a plane crashed in the northern part the state. the bodies were pulled from the burned wreckage late friday. all six victims were from out of state. the cause of the crash is still under investigation. it's something nobody wants to hear: terror. this morning a potential new threat. isis cross to go border into arizona. judicial watch, a conservative watchdog group, is reporting an isis operative is training terrorists just across the

could meet rigorous standards. a new wildfire this morning, california firefighters trying to contain a blaze now threatening 30 homes in morgan hill. it's consumed 15 acres southeast of san josi. firefighters shot water and retardant in the area. no injuries have been reported and no cause has been cited. the national guard is joining the lines to help fires in california burning since july. troops will spend 29 days trying to put out a blaze that's burned nearly 71,000 acres and destroyed more than 55 homes. that fire was caused by an illegal campfire and has killed one person. some places in california have picked up some rain but so many still under the drought,

tempe, 87 fountain hill and gilbert. take a look at the clouds on the satellite and radar right now. showing some light scattered showers activity up by winslow, starting to see some forming east of phoenix. i don't think that's anything major. we could get maybe a stray, and i use this term loosely, a stray shower maybe. but i'm thinking we're going to see that activity probably southeast of us and in the high country. this is really the proof. you can see of typical for the monsoon, firing up in the south and east. i think later on we could see some in the high country. i don't think it's going to be a washout or anything like that. if anybody sees rain today, i think it will be parts of the high country. phoenix should be dry for the next few days. this is your air quality.

the alleged shooter in another shooting that happened on thursday. maryellen resendez is live where it all came to an end. any reason why the officers opened fire? >> reporter: we are told the three officers did feel threatened. what the threat is, we don't know yet. police are still on the scene investigating. they have just moved the police cars that surrounded this vehicle, so we are getting a better look at car. looks like the front end has a lot of damage to it. police did what was called a pit maneuver. about the time they stopped this vehicle, and we're told officers knew the driver inside was armed, about the time they stopped this vehicle, a neighbor looked out and saw the scene unfolding. >> ran outside and it was just gunfire, pop, pop, pop, pop,

my mother to hit the deck, get away from the windows, and call 911. >> reporter: police say this was the end result of another shooting the day before, where they said the suspect, the driver of this vehicle, was involved in a drug deal gone bad and shot and killed a 55- year-old man. police caught up with him and started following him, then he started speeding up in a mesa neighborhood being cautious of other people and safety, they decided to detain that vehicle before a pursuit occurred. in the detaining process, they got out of the vehicle and contacted the driver and passenger, and that's when the shooting occurred. >> reporter: you can see the damage from that vehicle and you can see how much damage is done on that front end where officers tried to stop the

night. they found a 48-year-old man had been shot and he was taken to the hospital where he later died. police believe the victim and systematic knew each other and possibly got into a fight before the shooting. developing now, a man is dead, his girlfriend accused of shooting him in the face inside a phoenix motel. this morning her mother is saying it was all an accident. court documents say gabriella hardee shot and killed rosario leon on thursday. she sat on to and ak-47 at his face and it went off. her mom says she'd never do anything like this on purpose. >> she didn't mean to kill her boyfriend? >> no, no. >> court paperwork say the suspect and her boyfriend were drinking and smoking pot the day before he was shot.

a home off 75th avenue and camelback last night and found a 48-year-old man shot. he was taken to the hospital where he died. police believe the victim and suspect did know each other and probably got into some kind of fight before the shooting. a jack in the box employee is shaken up this morning after a car rams into the drive-thru then fires at the window. this happened near 36th and thomas, and police investigating. not only were our animals better for knowing him, but we were as well. >> a north valley veterinarian laid to rest this morning. first, about 100 people gathered last night to honor dr. bill tryon, killed in a freak accident after falling into his underground grain storage. last night's gathering was a

a crash in texas causes a tanker to explode. an suv collided with a tanker truck. it is unclear right now who was killed in the crash but the fire engulfed both vehicles, spreading to a nearby store and some other vehicles nearby as well. right now rescue crews are expecting to find more bodies after a deadly apartment explosion in maryland. at least five people still be missing. two bodies have already been found and those victims have not been identified. the cause of the blast still unknown this morning, but residents say they smelled gas right before the explosion. a fair ride operator can start running the rides at a tennessee fair again, just not the ferris wheel that dropped three girls last week. an inspection company found the rivets came loose and caused

ride. caught on video, a woman in washington gets run over by her own car and walks away. this video may be a little shocking to see. the woman and driver gets out of the car to fix the gas cap. she realizes the car is still rolling and tries to jump back in it, but the car drags her underneath and runs right over the backside of both of legs. paramedics checked her out and by miracle, she was fine. we are on wildfire watch this morning and there is a new brush fire in california. firefighters are trying to contain the blaze threatening 30 homes in morgan hill just south of san josi. no injuries have been reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

monday, when he's due back in court. former penn state assistant football coach jerry sandusky has now publicly denied that he ever molested children. he took the stand yesterday for the first time after he was convicted of sexual abusing ten boys four years ago. he's serving up to 60 years in jail and says back in 2012 he was not properly represented by his legal team and he was advised not to take the stan get his 45-count conviction thrown out. eight young men testified that he abused them as children, some incidents happening in the penn state locker room. a big influx of cash this morning in the fight against the spread of zika. it is a big cost when it comes to fighting other diseases, too. the department of health and human services is shifting $81 million from one part of the department to another.
