other than that, as we go through this day, the storm chances fire up in the higher terrain and possibly a slight chance in the valley. heading out the door, plan on the temperatures in the 80s. it's a little bit mild as you step outside. temperatures back near 110. another sizzling hot day. we'll talk about the storm chances in a bit. >> breaking news 15. >> more complaints coming from a neighborhood at this hour. in mesa, nick, a lot of activity behind you. >> reporter: this is a very busy scene. abc is first on scene this morning we're hearing that this fire here at the apartments started because of an outdoor water heater.

a number of fire crews going back and forth. the good news is that there's no injuries and it only sounds like one unit is going to be displaced. several others have some smoke damage, but those people are not going to have to leave because of it. no injuries i'll go and see if i can talk to the chief. i'll see if i can grab them and get an update. i'll make sure i g you guys. all right, to a quick traffic alert on i-10 in western arizona it's back open after a deadly crash that closed the area for six hours here's a picture near the scene. just devastating. you can see the car crushed in between the two semis a dust storm is to blame for the

serial street shooter. this morning, we're getting one of the clearest accounts of the attacks yet. >> live at 59th avenue. someone tried to save one of the victims? >> this is right. the neighbor ran over and tried to give the victim cpr, he died at the scene. that neighbor is only speaking to abc 15 and giving us new insight to the shooter. he was killed back on june 10th. he was in his girlfriend's driveway. he texted her to go to dinner and she was just turning off all of the nights when she heard the shooting. calvin davis was on his scooter. he said the driver stopped next to garcia and yelled something in spanish an unloaded 6 shots. >> i guess he tried to get

car. i felt it was someone in my family that had been shot >> he had to go after the serial shooter to get back his loss. if you recognize the man, call police. >> the more information, the better. there's going to be a community meeting. tell us about that. >> it will be tonight at the mountain view precinct 20th street and maryland. that's where three of the shootings have occurred. they're urging everyone within the community to come to the meeting and get information. >> katie is reporting this morning. >> more breaking news now. 4:34. happening while you were sleeping. fire crews working to save homes after a detached garage catches fire. it's near 57th avenue and

the flames did damage a neighboring garage. that was the scene there. also happening overnight, two motor homes catch fire in phoenix. the flames did not spread to a near by house. it was near 35th avenue and mcdowell. we were also on the scene of a horrific crash a man injured after being hit by a tow truck. the man is in his 30s near scottsda r nearly across the street when he was hit by the tow truck. the driver could not stop in time. the photographer said he could see several feet of skid marks on the road. the investigation continues. 24 hours later, no sign of who hit and killed a woman near 48th street and mcdowell. that woman in her 60s was in a

the only clues, the person was in a red or blue f-150-style pickup. look for the front end damage. we have a community alert especially if your kids walk to school. two said they were followed by a suspicious car with two men inside. as for the car, it's a great four-door sedan with disability mirror. things are cooling down in one of the buildings after a chiller went out. a student said it got hot in there. there's a water flow issue with the community. it will be fixed today an all classrooms were affected.

first, we have to talk about a situation happening in louisiana. just devastating the area. >> it is. we're talking about it in the news room. the images are something else from louisiana. the severe flooding, the unreal rescue that unfolded. the death toll has risen now to 7 baton rouge. 20,000 people have been rescued from their homes. 11,000 staying in shelters >> my house is underwater. i have three children my sister was on top of her roof and she has five children.
