a police situation is developing this morning in florence. a man hold up in a home in magic range. this all started when deputies were called out to check on a woman there. this is a live look for mayor 15 overhead -- from air15 overhead. she texted her son saying her boyfriend was threatening her with a gun so when deputies got there, they found a stolen car in the driveway and that's when the woman and her two kids left the home. she told deputies the man was going to kill the sheriffs deputies. we know he's a registered sex offender who is wanted for violating sex offender registry laws and a restraining order. adot cameras rolling moments ago, firefighters had a tough job putting out this fire. you can see it stacked up with bales of hay. this is on

the smoke but there wasn't too much fire and they got it put out into much -- in not too much order -- in short order. police were in the right place at the right time arresting a man for firing a gun in the air just a few hours ago near 27th street and osborne. officers were right around the corner when they heard the gun go off a couple times. police think the man may have been drunk but he could face endangerment another shooting wasn't really a shooting at all. the victim in this case was seen rolling around the street with a head injury but it turns out he was actually cut and it was not a bullet wound. investigators now say it was a robbery and police are still looking for the suspect. reopening after beardsley after a serious crash earlier this morning. you can see air15 was above the scene after 7:00. first responders had to cut

no word yet on how bad it might be. what >> displays overnight? this is a fire that broke out at an apartment complex off of stately and university. they said the fire could not have happened at a worse time. >> the store says it all. you can see -- this door says it all. you can see how is. they say this is the door of the utility closet and inside the closet was the water heater that caught fire and started the whole thing. neighbors here tell me that a family of five was living in the unit at the time, a mom with her four kids ages 12 to 18 and get this, i'm finding out the woman is expecting her fifth baby. she's pregnant actually, a horrible time to have to go through anything like this but thankfully nobody was injured in her family and she's able to stay with other family members who live here on

of the other kids have minor smoke damage but other people are still -- speaking of the other apartments they told me some of the other residents can go in but there is some minor damage. it was a massive effort from mesa and gilbert fire. when we showed up this morning there were still at least a few dozen firefighters on scene trying to make sure they were putting the fire out as we arrived. i should also mention mesa fire mentioned they believe the water heater was the source of the whole thing. they aren't sure what happened, if it overheated or what, but that is something they will have to determine throughout the course of the investigation. reporting here near stately and university in mesa, nick ciletti abc15. couple other fires burning in the valley overnight, these two homes went up in flames near 35th avenue and mcdowell infinity. -- and mcdowell in phoenix. thankfully did not spread to nearby homes and firefighters in glendale worked on this

destroyed and it sounds like the home itself is actually okay but the flames damaged a garage nearby but it is not a total loss. it's hot out there. >> it really is, dan. we've already made it into the 100s and we are not even until lunchtime. mostly clear skies. yesterday we hit a high of 110. that was the 29th day this year that we've seen the high temperature hit 1% -- 100 above. today we will get up to 103. not feeling too humid out there, that's the good news and then breezes out of the southeast mainly between five and 15 miles an hour. that's what we will keep through the afternoon. but it is going to be another

afternoon. some changes though as we start to track increasing storm chances. i will show you what to look out for in the valley today, next. now to our ongoing coverage of the serial street shooter. this morning we really get one of the clearest firsthand accounts of the attack and this is from a witness. abc15's katie conner has this story. >> reporter: he ran over to give him cpr but it was too late and this morning the neighbors talking exclusively to abc15 about what he remembers about the killer. >> i heard six shots consecutively >> on june 10, calvin davis was just feet away from the killer, sitting on this patio office 67th avenue and mcdowell when he saw the shooter in a passenger -- and a passenger cruise by in this black sedan. he said the driver stopped next to that the -- next to the victim and yelled something in spanish and then fired. garcia died at the scene waiting for his girlfriend to

pregnant women who take acetaminophen are more right -- more likely to have a hyperactive child. the findings were ju and said more than half of all pregnant women in the united states used acetaminophen but that is the active ingredient in things like tylenol and other common medication so expecting moms exposed to the drug were at a higher risk of having children with emotional or behavioral symptoms, but the study's lead author says acetaminophen is -- safe for the pregnant woman which only

household but all of that pot would be subject to a 15 percent sales tax and that money would go to education and healthcare, mostly education. so prop 205 -- if it doesn't afford we are seeing how much of the green stuff -- how much green the green stuff would actually pull in. if recreational pot becomes legal, the estimate is that another $300 million would be in the state by 20 -- 2018. voting on a hike for arizona's minimum wage. the whole right now whether or not the signatures collected for this to get on the ballot are legitimate. right now and am wage step that $8.00 five but that could get up to -- a dollars five per hour -- a dollars five cents per hour 32 underage girls were rescued from human trafficking. 21 buyers were arrested, charged with prostitution.

i will explain further in just a bit but right now it is quite in the phoenix metro, quiet to our southwest and southeast but in the high country we've been watching a few more of those storms fire up especially through coconino county come out near the grand canyon and just near the flagstaff area. we've had ongoing showers and storms up near greer in the white now -- white mountains this morning. as we go into the afternoon the focus will be more storms across the higher terrain but the storm threat area is really for the entire states today or most of the state rather except for western arizona. there's a slight chance we could see pop up storms areas like pinal county and also here in the phoenix metro so there is that 10% chance. as we go through the next few hours watch for storms to continue to fire along the -- along the rim in the notice by early evening a few of them could actually move off the higher terrain and closer to the scene -- phoenix metro especially our foothills locations and also down into pinal county east of casa grande, areas like florence and queen creek with that potential of picking up a shower or thunderstorm and we will also have to keep an eye on any

potential of producing gustier winds that could kick up dust. so that's something we will watch up -- watched through the evening and then after sunset things really are quieting down across the valley and much of the state with just a few lingering pockets of showers in the high country. tomorrow a similar set up where once we get into the daytime heating midday, the storms fire up again and they could move up into the phoenix metro. amounts of moisture will give us a better chance of actually seeing a few more storms in the phoenix metro. so for this afternoon keep an eye on the sky, again most of us stay dry but there is the temper sent chance for a stray shower or storm and of course if anything develops over some of our open desert areas the gusty winds could mean at least some patchy blowing dust so we will be watching for that today. also tomorrow. by thursday the chance for storms goes up a bit to a 20 -- 20% chance and we keep an isolated chance as we head into the weekend and keep some --

we have a crime alert to tell you about out of flagstaff. a man accused of sexually assaulting a woman. the attacker was carrying a large flashlight, wearing a baseball hat with the word police across it. we're told he approached a woman who was sitting in a parked car with another woman and police say he took her to a secluded area and that's where the attack took place. if you have any information, please call flagstaff pd -- petey. -- police department. when he went to pick up his car he decided to relieve himself right on the peoria police department building. on top of all that, police say 55-year-old joseph was like was still drunk. so whoever was driving didn't even care to stop.

disabled woman, who is in her 60s. she was rushed to the hospital where she died yesterday. the pick up as either a red or blue f-150 style which likely has quite a bit a friend in damage after sliding into the wheelchair. they say dangerous -- this is a dangerous street and they want the driver caught before somebody else is killed. >> everybody needs to look out for each other and own up to their responsibilities if they do something like that. >> the driver will almost certainly be in trouble for leaving the scene of the crash and could even face homicide charges. a couple high-profile cases back in court today. terrell suggs judge. scottsdale police say he crashed his bmw and then fled the scene. this spring -- that happened this spring and he is facing six months in jail for driving on a suspended license but will likely just have to pay a fine. the name britney nolan me thought -- may send a little familiar. she's facing second-degree murder charges after police say she hit her boyfriend with her car back in 2014 after the two reportedly got into an argument.

looking for her boyfriend after they fought and she thought she had a poll. they were near the grand canyon and investigators say there's nothing grand about the idea. the paige unified school district saying it's been deemed dangerous by some. they use the 15 passenger vans for athletics and other extracurricular activities but the feds say the fans can be a safety risk if they are overloaded. or if the tires don't have enough pressur rethink their use of the fans and consider the safety risks but the district plans to keep using them for now. state of emergency in louisiana as the search for survivors continues. eight deaths are being blamed on the call -- flooding in baton rouge. at least 33,000 people have been rescued and many of them are packed in shelters. the danger is not even over yet. elizabeth hur is following the latest from new york.

ozone concentrations, the clear pollutants that you can't see actually will reach unhealthy levels today for folks with respiratory issues. all of that combining with those pollutants and that's what creates that ozone. and now this ozone high pollution advisory has extended into wednesday too so if you have respiratory issues or maybe they -- your children do, then over the next couple of days, make indoor plans as that will be the better option and we only really want to be indoors because of this heat. temperatures are already heating up faster than yesterday. we're already warmer than yesterday at this time. scottsdale is in the triple digits and pretty much the entire phoenix metro has made it into the 100s already. it's 101 in apache junction and goodyear is checking in right at 102 degrees. that will only get hotter so we go from 103 now to 107 by 2:00 and then we will watch for the tie -- the high temperature of

another sizzling hot day and noticed the temperatures will stay there until we start to see that temperature gradually trending back down into the 90s. if we hit 110 today that would be day 30 of temperatures hitting 110 or above -- or high temperatures rather this year so so far we've seen 29 days of temperatures at 110 or above, putting us right in third place for the most 110+ days in a year days and again we are only four days away from that. today could be day 30 so we will be watching that very closely through the afternoon and we will also keep an eye on the sky with a 10% chance between 2:00 and 6:00 that we could pick up a stray shower or thunderstorm and possibly areas of patchy, blowing dust as we go into the afternoon but the main impacts will be in the high country. you can see how quiet the desert doppler is that we are starting to get a few pop-ups in yavapai county and scattered

and flagstaff are seeing newly formed storms in that area and we will continue to see those fill in around the mogollon rim. those could work and the phoenix metro or pinal county here this afternoon. so something to keep an eye on today, and tomorrow is another similar today. -- another similar day. the chances are higher but you will notice they stay in our forecast even to the early for -- early part of the weekend. you will notice the highs between 110 and 115 out to our west. tonight though temperatures drop into the low to mid 80s tomorrow and then the temperatures in the afternoon are not as hot as monsoon moisture increases a bit and temperatures gradually drop and by the weekend we will be closer to the average at least. this next woman kind of inspiring here with this activity. other women might not choose to
