streets. we had some showers did the southwest valley and central phoenix picking up light rainfall. 1/10 of an inch at phoenix sky harbor. you can see things are winding down on abc 15 desert doppler. there's about a 10% chance of a stray shower as you drive into work. watch for at least some pockets of wet roads. you may encounter them on your drive into work. overall showers will be gradually tapering -- tapering off through the morning. hot and humid today afternoon another chance of storms. we will talk more about that in a bit. we are glad you chose to wake up with us. >> breaking news. what's going on? >> unfolding, we have been on the scene where one man is dead in what appears to be a drive- by shooting. that is the initial reports happening right now in levine your 51st avenue. in southern. justin pazera is on the scene .

sounds like the victim may have been in the wrong place at the wrong time.>> reporter: that is accurate. i spoke with phoenix police and they are calling this a drive- by shooting. you can see where the lights just turned on, that is a tow truck. they're getting ready to toe a pt cruiser that was involved in this shooting. if we show video we can get a better shot of this scene. i just talked with police who said they were called to this neighborhood last night around 7:40 p.m. groups. 10:40 again last night they got another call to this same neighborhood. this time for a shooting. when they got here they found a male victim shot. that guy died. they believe a few of those people and -- in one of those groups were trying to retaliate , except the victim the shot was not the right guy. that guy they shot was just in this neighborhood to. somebody up. they're not saying much about

age or anything like that. as for the suspect, they said when they first came out here at 7:40 last night the groups were not cooperating so none of the folks that were involved in this are being detained. they are working to get a better description of who might have pulled off this shooting. i just spoke with an officer who said this group, these detectives, a very large group of detectives, be out here for several more hours working this case. live in phoenix with abc now a story that will really shake you up, a three- year-old girl hit by a vehicle while hoping to get an ice cream cone. this is a tough one. this happened your 75ththis is a tough one. this happened your 75th avenue. and camelback. the person behind the wheel was a phoenix police officer. we're told the child ran out and was hit. she had several skull fractures. >> i am praying for her.

i don't even know who it is and i prayed. >> so emotional for everyone involved. the officer involved is incredibly distraught and being interviewed by detectives picked ice cream truck did drive off but officers were able to catch up with the driver. >> that is a tough story. we have some exclusive details on the case of jessie wilson. the 10-year-old buckeye boy who has been missing for more than a month, we just got our hands on an on from 2011. it goes into detail about child abuse, an investigation surrounding his adoptive mother. she was never charged, but people complained at the time she was not getting enough food to her five children. when police showed up they found 24-year-old boys tied to their beds. their mother -- they found two 24-year-old boys tied to their beds.

is being called the blue cut fire. it looks like a little fire tornado there. talk about intense. the fire burning about 18,000 acres. the evacuation orders are in place for 82,000 people. >> i really don't think it's that close to evacuate. >> i have two cars and a motorhome. i might have to leave my car here. >> crews are working around the clock fire contained. so far zero containment. about a dozen buildings so far have been destroyed. >> the weather is always crucial in fighting the fires. the monsoon moisture is coming back in our state. looking at the tucson area there are some incredible downpours there. you can even hear some thunder in the background. is this something we will see more of today? we have already woken up to a few showers this morning.

part to some storms moving into the valley late last night. this morning have some lingering showers and a few spots. even picking up about 1/10 of an inch of rain at phoenix sky harbor. light rain across the valley but some spotty showers south of ahwatukee developing right now. to the south west still some ongoing rain. right through to listen, some very light rainfall south of mcdowell and in the northwest valley a few spotty sprinkles around 303. -- loop 303. also maricopa. not widespread shower activity, but a few spotty showers continuing for the next hour or hour and a half. through the 6:00 hour we have that chance for at least a few light showers. plan on that as you head into work. likely not a washout but you make a few sparkles on your windshield. we have some rain cold air so the temperature is dropping to 85 as the rain moves over sky harbor. by this afternoon back to very hot.

fan experience with abc 15 in your arizona cardinals. we're giving away tickets to the game on september 1. just download the abc 15 mobile app and look for the contest entry for your chance to win. developing news coming out of the tucson area, pima county sheriff's deputies recovering from injuries after a shooting on the southwest side. deputies got the call around 7:30 that someone was taking photos of children he is sitting in his car taking photos of children. deputies found the vehicle and tried to pull him over. the vehicle sped away and drove into a driveway a few blocks away. the deputy and the suspect got into a fight. the deputy was not to the ground and that deputy fired one shot, killing the suspect. the deputy has a head wound and has been released from the hospital. caught on camera.

the bus colliding with a car that might have run a red light. six people were hurt after this hit the floor. they fly several feet. the bus finally stopping on a sidewalk. the driver of the smashed car tried to wobble away. >> i was arrested. this story takes the cake. a mother having quite the meltdown at a detroit ice cream shop. this is not her first desert induced rage. watch as she smacks the ice cream worker in the head. store didn't have the flavor she wanted. >> she just started yelling that we didn't have the flavor of her sons ice cream. >> she is the same woman that drop kicked a cake at a grocery store. woman who was it is suing the other woman. she could also face charges.

yesterday in huntington west virginia 26 people overdosed in a four hour periods. the same number they might see in a typical month. officials fear the drug is laced with fentanyl and that is the same concerns officials recently had in neighboring ohio where i responded to hundreds of similar calls over the course of the summer. if you head out on the roads you might notice some drops on your wind chill. >> especially if you for 7:00 this morning. that's really our best potential for a few showers. this is from the arizona department of environmental quality, pretty quiet early on but as we started getting into the last few hours you can see some passing showers on the time lapse camera. all very light. only a few spots picking up around 1/10 of an inch, including phoenix sky harbor. you can see much of the rain

of very light showers. let me take you around. we had a little flareup near ahwatukee, but you can see a few lingering light showers south of ahwatukee along the 10 . we have another batch of light showers right over the astray is, over the higher terrain. that makes a big impact to some of our neighborhoods that are mainly over the higher terrain. i will keep a close eye on that as it moves further east towards parts of the east valley this morning. in toles and. some that might require the windshield wipers or leave a little shine on the roads as the rain comes down. not a huge impact. the loop 303 also getting in on some light rainfall. off to the south in maricopa tracking some light showers. overall, not seeing widespread rain. i don't. >> widespread rain for the

hour until about 7 am. dropping storm chances out of the forecast through midday it won't be until later this afternoon and evening we see the chance for storms going back up. we will also start the day with partly cloudy skies but then they will send out and you will see more sunshine heading towards lunchtime and this afternoon. we have that ozone high pollution advisory still in effect for today. all the sunshine we will see will create higher concentrations of ozone. some changes over the next few days in monsoon moisture approaching from the northwest. most of those will combine to give us a boost in storm chances. especially heading into thursday. today we had that chance of showers through 7 am and this afternoon a chance for a few spotty storms. tomorrow looking more promising with more scattered showers and

we will see storms firing up along the rim and it just like yesterday, we will have to watch as the storms move off the higher terrain and into the phoenix metro. that's where the 10% chance comes in today for this afternoon and evening. tomorrow much more active around the state and in the valley. tomorrow a chance for storms. some could produce heavy rain. that is what we will watch for on thursday. we are starting the day with an early morning shower, a stray storm possible later today and possibly also some dust. we saw a yesterday. as we go through the week, keeping an isolated to slight chance of storms every day into the weekend. i will show you that forecast in a few minutes. for the most part the freeways are pretty quiet. even some spots in the west valley that should be seeing some rain, not really impacting your drive so far. i-17 is pretty dry traveling
