phoenix where a major investigation launched after neighbors made a gruesome discovery in a car. and the serial shooter case update, the look we are getting at the car he was driving. >> you're watching abc15 mornings with danielle lerner, christopher sign, dan spindle, iris hermosillo invalid -- and mallory moore. welcome to abc15 mornings on this tuesday. we're tracking traffic alerts. >> yes in the southeast valley, where we are seeing those wet roads. >> this will continue for the early commute so if you travel before 6 am especially this will be the main impact for you. so let me take you to the desert out there. we've got rain falling in the southeast valley where mallory will pinpoint the accident in a bit but we also have showers and thunderstorms in the west valley with heavy rains through

gilbert and also moving right to glendale as we move up i-17. this is tracking to the northeast, moving up to the deer valley area, not necessarily cave creek up here, but you will notice this is producing quite a bit of lightning as it moves to the northeast tracking over state route 51 and will eventually move up to the loop 101 as well. so if you take any of these roads, this will be an impact for you. again storm chances stay in our forecast and we could see the scattered showers throughout the 6 am but after that it does look like things start to trend down but we have another chance for storms this afternoon. we will talk temperatures in a few minutes but we have you covered in all angles when it comes to the rain. nick ciletti is out in the live drive and what are the roads looking like where you are, and where are you? >> reporter: okay iris, we're driving right now on the carefree highway right eye cave

right by cave creek road. the roads to look a little bit slick but it's not really raining right now, just a little bit of drizzle on the windshield that in this part of the valley don't -- things don't look so bad. as we head closer to the 17 it looks agree are starting to see more of the rain and i have to tell you we seen -- to the 17 it looks like we are starting to see more of the rain. the roads are a little bit slick especially if you are driving on the 17. ago we were seeing a lot of that rain so please be careful and know that you are going to run into that. we are looking at video right now -- what you're seeing right now is near the airport near our station. that was really getting some downpours earlier. and the windshield wipers were really going on along the 51 and bell road 70 n. phoenix they were also seeing it.

favoring any one area. i want to send it now to mallory moore who is keeping a close eye on the roads for us with an important job this morning. the roads were definitely slick. i don't know if it's weather- related but i can tell you the roads are slick. this is loop 202 san tan traveling right before the 10. the right lane is blocked because of a crash. they've even set up flares but even though we are seeing slick roads especially on the 10, no delays just yet but i will give you a closer look at some of the desert drive times plus the drive times on the 17 up next. happening right now phoenix police officers are trying to figure out who killed a man and apparently dumped his body at an apartment complex inside a car near tatum and bell. we were the only station there is detectives were sorting through that crime scene. justin pazera

scene and residents were asking us what we knew about this. >> detectives just left this area a little bit ago but if you look right behind me you see this carport here and that's where the residents saw the car. they thought something was suspicious about it. they are the ones that tom police inside the car with antibody. abc15 was the only one there as detectives got on scene so we know the detective -- the body is of an adult male. we saw what appeared to be blood on the driver side but they don't believe the murder happened here at the apartment complex. they think the man was killed someplace else and then the car and body were dumped at the suburban complex. they believe the guy -- dumped at this apartment complex. at this point we really don't have a good description of a suspect. live in north phoenix,

four minutes after the 5:00 hour, new this morning the best description yet of what the serial street shooter may be driving as more witnesses and a survivor of the latest attack break their silence. they are talking about what happened on july 11 at 30th street and sheridan just north of oak when police say the serial street shooter it's -- shooter pulled out a gun and started firing a car at the inter--- a gun at the intersection. >> started firing at me. he wasn't wearing a mask or glasses or a hat. he didn't care. he didn't care if i saw him. >> how unreal. we've heard police say the person is driving in older model be indelibly -- bmw. an -- an older model bmw. >> it's kind of a sports vehicle. it has this part of the sports

time now for your most accurate forecast as we track storms moving through the valley and some stronger storms within this batch as well. you can see we've got storms from phoenix into scottsdale and we have another line of storms from about scottsdale over to apache junction, all of this pushing to the northeast but let's zoom in taking you to some of the heaviest rainfall right now head -- following right over state route 51. here's camelback mountain in this badge of heavy rain is falling right over the mountain and moving towards the northeast . it is moving into the northeast scottsdale area close to the loop 101 so if you have

good morning. if you are just waking up with us, we're keeping a close eye on the valley with our many cameras out there. we saw a lightning strike just come through on this camera a few moments ago. mallory has the desert drive times and iris is tracking the forecast. we will check in with both of them in a few minutes. thousands of potential voters may not be heading to the polls this november. a judge will hill are -- will hear arguments over how the proof of citizenship requirements have developed.

supposed to release his latest position this week and that has been postponed. arrested for extreme dui. we've learned the homicide with the mesa detective police department was along for the very drunk ride. it's not a crime to be a passenger of a drunk driver so no internal investigation there and she is still on the job but we are keeping a close eye on a murder mystery out of chandler and now friends and family are pleading for justice after the pilot murder of a man found in his car outside an la fitness near warner and dobson wrote. they are now going through security camera footage hoping to find anything. certainly an emotional time for those who knew the victim. >> he was always willing to

lightning and you can see the camera moving around a little bit as we get the gusty thunderstorm winds. now looking at abc desert copper we have a heavier rain moving from the west valley into the east valley and you can see the cop -- the pocket of the heaviest rainfall and the strongest storms really in northeast scottsdale moving right along the loop 11. right in the northeast corner. in the last 10 minutes, 17 minutes and there are some heavier pockets of rainfall possibly a little bit of rainfall with this but you could see the burst of purple indicating really a quick -- an area of quick heavy rain in that region right near scottsdale road as that moves to the northeast. we have more to the northeast tracking fountain hills, heading towards you. behind it not a whole lot happening so things will start

moves through and as we talk about your most accurate planner, the best potential is here through about 6 am for the scattered thunderstorms so be on the lookout for that. if you have to travel before -- after 6:00 you have a better chance of getting drier conditions on your way to work. right now we're at 78 but by 9 am we climbed to 86 as we start to gradually clear out -- we will climbed to 86 degrees as we start -- to gradually clear out. slight chances in that forecast. 100 degrees today show you how much hotter it will get in the 7-day forecast in just a few minutes. we still have a crash right now on loop 202 san tan blocking the right lane so make sure you slide to the left. things are slowing down just a bit in the westbound direction of loop 202 right near kyrie, so just near -- before you hit the 10. and we have two crashes, one at mclean at another at haas in the eastbound direction so really take it easy and that

extending on the 10 back to about 83rd avenue are so. -- or so. this is traveling southbound from the 17 to the stack. this is probably the heaviest spot right now, north scottsdale on the 101. so far not slowing but i will keep a close eye on that for you coming up. track she didn't know what she was doing but the video seems to show otherwise. what neighbors claim really happened between this quarreling couple. a man shoots and kills his roommate in this gilbert home

a scuffle turns into a shooting at this gilbert home but was it self-defense? live in gilbert and how social media may make the claim hard to believe. >> the boyfriend drops a bombshell admission and next thing he knows he's mowed down by a car. the girlfriend said she didn't know what she was doing and witnesses say oh yes she did. before you head out to work you will see quick -- look and with roads so i that while iris hermosillo is tracking storm chances. it's certainly a wet and rainy start for some of you. we're keeping an eye on what's happening near you. >> sounds like that doppler is just lighting up at this moment . >> it really is, starting in the west valley and now in the east valley with the heaviest rain. i've seen the flashes of lightning -- of lightning at times so let me take you right over to abc15 desert doppler

the showers and storms still across the valley. a lot of this has moved in with your -- in northeast valley and you can see how much quieter it is in avondale and tollefson but it is that pocket just east of the loop 101 where we are seeing some of the heaviest rain as this batch -- as that pocket just east of the loop -- 101. another pocket of showers along the 51 but starting to lose some of these showers and storms as they continue to lift off to the northeast. as we head into the 6:00 hour just lingering showers for the rest of the commute. temperatures are sitting in the 70s now and will climb back in the low 80s as we head into work . by lunchtime 83 and this afternoon upper 90s to 100 but we have more storm chances to talk about in just a few minutes.

camera right where we are seeing some of those showers coming down, very slick road conditions. you really need to give yourself extra space with the car in front of you because we are seeing a lot of splash and nick ciletti is headed over there so we will get a closer look from that area but you are seeing that on the camera right now. let's give you a closer look at some of the delays partly because of the rain on the 10. you are reaching all the way back to the 101 plus we have a new crash on the 10 that i showed you a ago right near 16th street. that is adding to the delays. we will give you a closer look at that and other crashes around the valley next. and the family dog was killed after an apartment caught fire in phoenix. this is video from the location near 19th avenue and indian school. a fast response by phoenix fire and police officers after one apartment caught fire. it rip right through this case -- this three-story complex but

save the dog but unfortunately it was just too late and too much smoke for the dog. phoenix fire crews helped us tell the story and one couple was displaced. from that location i want to go to 51st avenue and broadway where there is a shooting investigation underway after a man was shot in the leg and listen to this: officers tell us the man and woman were just walking their dog through the neighborhood. some guy walked up to them, asked them were exchanged and the stranger pulled out a gun and fired one shot, striking the dog's owner in the leg. the shooter then took off running from the scene. the victim is expected to be okay and officers say it looks like just a random incident. no arrests from this one danielle. this morning a gilbert man is behind bars after shooting his roommate. megan thompson is joining us live from the house and make it, social media may be

. >> that's right. inside this home near chandler heights and higley, 21-year-old zachary penton described that when a fight broke out -- the roommate burst into his room threatening his life but a tweet being shared thousands of times this morning says -- has many people questioning his account. >> it says i need to move out before i viciously murder my roommate. they aren't -- they haven't verified yet if this is his account. friends of guerra follow say the person's claim seems far-fetched for the kindhearted person the new. >> i just wonder because dan was such a nice guy. in order for this to happen, he was going to kick the guy out so i don't know if the guy will get money or how -- would have gotten that -- money or how that transpired. >> reporter: as for penton, they are more posts they are

they are looking into. we will keep you updated on that coming up. a woman ran down her boyfriend with her car and we've just found some other evidence that might be the smoking gun, so to speak. back in may she told police she didn't mean to hit him, that she was distraught and he had just dropped the bombshell admission that he was hiv- positive and he was taunting her -- her with a knife. then neighbors are saying -- but now neighbors are saying they heard her threatening to run him over with her car. she will be sentenced later today. meanwhile we know the lawyers of tyler costs will only have to worry about one trial. he's accused of raping several girls in the san tan valley when he was a teenager. he claimed the girls worked together to plot against him on social media. his trial begins in february.

revealed over the weekend serving as a memory of her dedication to all children. greg stanton and volunteers are taking action going door to door to encourage high school students who've recently dropped out to come back to school. this is part of the phoenix high school district's graduation highway program. they are stanton and the tucson mayor decided to make dropout prevention a priority when they discovered one out of five students don't graduate high school. a bit of unlucky pop who was stung more than 400 times by bees in phoenix. that poor little guy. he's now recovering at a local vet. the swelling has been going down and he was finally able to get a bit of sleep. his owners say a swarm of bees from a vacant home next-door attacked him as well as their other dog lady who is expected to be okay . we need to update everybody right now happening at the live desk, we've learned there are a

101 this morning and yes, it's really coming down. i want to turn on the camera here. you can see the windshield wipers are really going on well -- take a look at all that lightning. we've lost count of how many flashes we've seen but i want to talk about the roads also because they are pretty slick. so please be careful. we haven't seen anybody hydroplaned but if you -- you can just tell by the way people are driving that they are trying to be cautious. they've posted some signs for people to be careful because of the we are continuing to track this. i just tweeted out a lightning picture -- such -- so check that out and make sure you send us your photos and videos to share@abc15.com. that area is where we are seeing the strongest showers and storms this morning. you can see the boca the rain really has lifted to the northeast with -- ending across the west valley and even central phoenix.

fountain hills where we are still seeing a lot of lightning and some areas of very heavy rainfall. in the last 10 minutes that lightning counter going up to about 11 lightning strikes and before then we had a few more. so quite a bit of lightning still with this storm as they continue to moves the northeast. also along the 60, apache junction, this next batch is moving toward you and eventually that will move over the higher terra see from this wider picture things are again starting to wind down behind it. as we go through the next few hours those storm chances gradually start to taper off as this batch of rain moves off into the higher terrain across our state. as with -- as i take you across here on future cast you noticed through 6:54 am -- 6 to 7 am,

storms are gradually tapering off until about lunch time when we could see more firing up across the higher terrain and just an isolated chance that they could move back into the valley by late this afternoon and evening. the best potential though was this morning for rain in the valley. we talk temperatures in just a few minutes, mallory. >> we've already had a bunch of crashes today and a new one today is really starting to slow things down on state route 51. look at how slow this is in the northbound direction. the crash is right near glendale avenue. it sounds like the center lane and exit ramp are blocked there and also a crash in the southbound direc that area so take it easy. the 17 is looking pretty good right now instead of the 51 heading northbound. delays are now before loop 11 because the slick roads -- it -- are adding to that and this is blocking the hov lane i-10 eastbound at 16th street. we still have the crash on loop 202 san tan. i will look at that with you next. president obama is now getting a firsthand look at the damage in louisiana.

i am justin pazera live in north phoenix right now. the time is 5:40 and you are looking at a live look out be looking at a storm -- sunrise but instead we are looking at darpa -- dark storm clouds throughout the valley. here i say it's a cool start to the valley. iris will be tracking all of this with your most accurate forecast coming up. president obama will be heading to flood ravaged louisiana today. tens of thousands of people have been displaced by the historic flooding there. it's just devastating.

president obama has been criticized for not coming to louisiana center. he was on vacation -- to louisiana sooner. but i just saw this this morning for the first time. the governor of louisiana who is a democrat says he asked that the president wait a bit so they could get out of fall on response mode. according to the louisiana governor he did not want to divert police and sheriffs deputies to providing security for the president when they were conducting all the rescues and checking on people and helping others. meanwhile fema will start going to others debris removal starting in baton rouge. people say the stench is just tremendous from the rotting food. some people have been asked to duct tape their refrigerators together so nobody opens the doors in their front yards as they wait for pickup. >> you don't think about the effects of that flooding. -- something you don't think about that the effects of the flooding.

system is reportedly failing kids. >> there's a lot of resources we try to gather around a family when they have kids removed but at the end of the case we weren't really checking in to find out what was next. i think that's been a week part of our system. >> judge colleen mcnally saying support resources like childcare, substance abuse counseling and even food baskets can help families avoid another cr as if paying students -- student loans wasn't hard enough, ordered to pay up after illegally charging late fees to some borrowers. the bank charged the late fees to customers who made payments on the last day of their grace period. as part of the penalty wells fargo must pay a $3.6 million to the consumer financial perfect -- protection agency and must also set aside $410,000 to refund customers who were hit with those illegal

a lot of this is really lifting north east into the higher terrain from winslow down to near payson over to snowflake and show low. watch for lightning too so this is now turning into a wet morning drive for the high country. as we go through the day today -- as far as the valley goes, this batch will slowly clear off to the northeast and we will start to see lower storm chances as we go through the rest of threat once we get into this evening of a few more pop up storms here in the phoenix metro but again the storm chances overall are starting to trend down. so as we look at your most accurate forecast irrigon the storm chances gradually drop over the next few hours and will actually start to see -- we will actually start to see the cot -- the skies clearing also. we have rain cooled air across the valley so you will feel that across -- when you step outside.
