we are in the live drive right now on the 51 heading northbound and we've seen spotty showers throughout the morning. we will bring you the latest images we're seeing out on the roads. dramatic new video shows kayla mueller pleading for her life while in crisis captivity. early on we saw some lightning. we're tracking rain showers. >> yes, some areas are getting heavier pockets of rain so let's take you right to desert doppler to show you where the rain is now and where it is headed in case you're getti we've got rain in goodyear, tollefson, scottsdale and a little bit of rain in southeast gilbert. it's tough to see because it's right over the radar site put this area in goodyear and tollefson just south of i-10 getting the heaviest pockets. not seeing a lot of radar -- lightning but you will need the umbrella as you head out the door especially in any of these neighborhoods just south of i-10

northeast into spots like glendale and with that another batch of heavier rain in scottsdale moving right along the loop 101, also pushing towards the northeast. supports mcdowell if you listen the foothills or fountain hills. and that -- and we have spotty showers now but more storm chances as the day goes on so i will break down the hour by hour planner so you know exactly what to expect in just a few minutes. but we have allison rodriguez in the live drive keeping a close eye on the roads. what are you seeing allison? >> reporter: good morning iris. what i am seeing is that it's kind of dry. there might've been some rain out here earlier but not so much now. you can see on 51 coming up to the 51 exchange, we will be heading around to the north scottsdale area where you mentioned some of the showers will be heading this morning. but it has been a little bit

of our photojournalists.com -- camelback and 20th street. they said it was quiet overnight and then the range of started pouring. i had something similar and a big -- thunderclap rattling my windows and that's when we saw the rain. we were rolling on this because we can't the heavy rain driving on the 51. this is where we had just gotten on near thomas in the mcdowell area very spotty throughout the morning, so sometimes we will gets booed goes on the windshield and then nothing but we will continue to track it and come back out here live where we will be living around the 101. we will bring you as soon as we get any of those showers live. another spot where you will see what roads right now is along the loop 202 especially near 32nd street, still seeing

this is and looking too bad but it is a spot where you will see some slick roads this morning. let's switch over to our traffic map. it's not affecting speeds just yet even on i-10, just a 10 minute desert drivetime eastbound to the 101 until you hit the 17 so you are pretty good to go there as far as crashes or slowdowns. we will look again at i-17 in a couple minutes. first on abc15 mornings, officers around the scene of the shooting near 28th broadway. that's where we have megan thompson. things have been changing drastically to this investigation. making you were just tweeting out moments ago that officers pushed you even further back. >> reporter: that's right. they pushed us further back because they are expanding the search of this particular scene. and this is the area where there was a triple shooting last night and they tell me they are -- they will be on scene for several hours as they

scene is connected to the triple shooting. police told me they responded to a shots fire -- fired call, found shell casings and bullet holes and then while on scene they heard a man walked into a county hospital with a gunshot wound in his abdomen. they believe this is connected to the scene. an elderly couple owns the vehicle that was shot at and police are saying right now they don't believe the elderly couple was connected, they were just sleeping inside their house at the time but again like you mentioned this is developing at this hour. >> all right megan thank you. this isn't too far away from the location where one person is in the hospital as a violent southers on the street gets worse. this was one of the victims being wheeled away after three people were shot. our crew is on the very active scene right now where three men were shot near 28th street and broadway. there's no suspect at this

suspects is still trying -- victims is still trying to wrap his head around what happened. >> i got a phone call and i rushed over here. he just said he got jumped or something. it really hasn't sunk in yet until i saw him strapped to the gurney getting into the ambulance. i'm trying to contact sisters. >> still a lot to figure out and law enforcement says all three victims have life- threatening injuries. valley facing multiple charges. rafael mendoza is accused of child molestation and several other crimes after apparently trying to leave the country but getting busted in the process in florida. we dug through the paperwork and found he's not supposed to be eligible for release after being brought back here to phoenix but he is out of jail already after getting an ankle monitor. our online searches show he worked with a healthcare

not guilty. police arrested this guy 26- year-old robert keith, saying he was a peeping tom also accused of indecent exposure. there may have been 20 incidents dating back to 2013 connected with this man. and busting this accused predator charged with assaulting a 15-year-old girl. they say gabriel communities was in the country illegal -- quinones was in the country illegally and apparently admitted to the assaulting -- assault in a phone call. my name is kayla mueller. i need your help. i've been here too long and i am very sick. >> it just breaks your heart, doesn't it? to see kayla mueller in this proof of life video from three years ago. she later died at the hands of isis and tonight on 2020 her parents are breaking their

we are waking up to spotty showers around the valley but this could be enough to make it a bit of a with drive for some in the west valley as that's where most of the rain is starting to push through. we had showers develop out near goodyear and tollefson, still raining in those areas but now the rain has lifted north of i- 10 and is impacting spots right along cardinals stadium so if you live around there you are getting the heavy rain. this is moving toward grand avenue. and in curia another light shower near sun city pushing northeast towards deer valley. we had some of the light rain in the eastern portions of the

the lawsuit claims the many -- mini-uzi was not appropriate for a nine-year-old girl which caused her to lose control when firing the weapon. the accident occurred back in august 2014. 39-year-old charles ibaka was teaching this girl how to shoot a fully automatic uzi caused her to lose control and a stray bullet struck him in the head.

right now the search is on for the person who viciously murdered two nuns who worked as nurses and helps the poor in rural mississippi. the secretary of state saying the unbridled love and care for men care has been -- for mankind has been met with unparalleled savagery. they were vic's of a break-in and vehicle theft. their bodies were found yesterday morning inside their a car belonging to one of them has now been found on an abandoned road less than a mile from the home. the person who did this has a special place -- coming for them later on. the baby born in florida with the zika virus -- the child's mother contracted the disease while visiting venezuela when she was three months pregnant. the baby was born just weeks ago, spent two weeks in the nicu.

won't send you a big check or guarantee of one. -- of one -- that you have won. we have links to the real ones on our website. we woke up some thunder around 2:00 this morning but still right now we are tracking some rain showers across the valley and you can see the department of environmental quality showing you the showers moving across the phoenix metro. now the heaviest and more widespread rain if you want to call it that is really across the west valley, although as you look at the big pitcher not everybody is getting rain right now. the showers are generally spotty but if you live in the west valley anywhere from goodyear to tollefson up and glendale, that's where we are seeing the more widespread coverage right now between the loop 101, i have [no audible content] and grant -- i-10 and grand

if you are in any of those neighborhoods, a heads up that it is heading towards you. a few sprinkles in buckeye but nothing major there and then more rain out toward scottsdale pushing over the higher terrain moving outwards mcdowell so if you live along the foothills you will get some of these showers possibly into fountain hills also but the more widespread action is in the west valley. we could see these showers continue to push north in spots like chandler so early morning, best chances for showers here before we see another chance for storms later this afternoon. be on alert, you may need to give yourself extra time this morning and it's not just the the high country is getting showers and storms with stronger storms near payson. if you're traveling on long 40 you could get caught in spotty showers and will have lightning near the grand canyon is weeks -- as we continue to track storms up there. we have several of these systems any boost in monsoon moisture so that means storm chances are in the forecaster saturday and we will have to watch here as we go into the afternoon for storms to develop and the surrounding areas. that could mean gusty winds and

those chances stick around overnight and into tomorrow morning and then during the day just a slight chance of a pop up storm in the phoenix metro but overall you can see the storm chances back the next couple of days and then we begin to dry out sunday, monday into early next week before another move -- boost in monsoon moisture by wednesday and thursday. it's a high of 99, not too bad. i break down the hour by hour planner next. some of these cameras are out in the west valley tr that rain so this is loop 101 at camelback road. it is click here and you can see a lot of splash up from the car in front of you so i have been noticing folks slowing down except -- especially on the on ramp which is exactly what you should do right now. i'm not seeing expensive delays -- lots of delays because of this and the east valley is very quiet on the 60 and 202. as we head into scottsdale some of the showers that passed through -- we will see that

a south dakota teenager is getting to and from work a lot quicker these days thanks to the generosity of strangers. a passerby noticed she was walking a long way every day to and from work and that is when a state trooper got involved. >> he explained to me he was coming from the washington high school area and that he was heading to a location in sioux falls but was still several miles away. >> and part of it was on the interstate also so they sergeant decided you need a bicycle. so he bought him one. he was shocked by the reaction, thrilled to be off on his brand- new bicycle. you've got to love that. the photo of tanner receiving that bike going viral. everybody loving to take part in that.

rainfall is in spots in the west valley, but some more widespread showers moving right over grand avenue in glendale. i put a storm tracker on this so you know exactly when to expect it. i told you this batch of rain was moving to the northeast so it is moving to deer valley around 20 miles an hour so in the next 20 to 25 minutes it will move up in the corner. that's the early heads up that it's heading your way. spots along i-17 and also the loop01 well. it's one of the areas we are seeing the showers right now and we have a chance for stray showers as we go through the early morning commute so as you get ready to head out just know you could get caught under some of these showers and you might have to take it a little slow. there's also a chance for more storms later. i will break down that part of

minutes but mallory, you have an eye on the roads. >> with the rain in the west valley it's starting to slowdown right your loop 101. this is also a heavy spot. slick roads for west valley drivers so a heads up there. let's go over to the traffic map because i don't see extensive delays yet so good news for the friday morning drive but a heads up on a road closure because of a crash. sounds like this will be closed down the entire morning commute so if you usually use cave creek road this is from sharon drive to peoria avenue sh down again through the morning commute so 7th street or state route 51 will be your best option. brand-new information and we were on the scene as speed and alcohol appear to be a factor. this doesn't end there though, as police tell us the 22-year- old was transported in critical condition. at 4:30 we told you the driver lost control slamming into a tree but first responders were on the scene and then suv actually drove around the police car, went right to the

pulled over but the thing is they believe the guy was drunk. he was taken into custody and thankfully no first responders were injured in that one. we're learning that a man walking himself to the hospital walked into the emergency room after being shot in the stomach and megan thompson is live near 28th and broadway for a very active investigation. what is the latest? >> also getting roped into this . it's very active right now. phoenix police tell us they were calling -- checking on reports of shots fired and then when they got here they found shell casings and the couple's car hit with at least three bullets. police don't believe the couple was involved in any

burned in the end, this is an abc15 exclusive. phoenix police say they stopped the suspected car thief before booking him. they had firefighters take him to deer valley medical center after he reportedly swallowed drugs and that the hospital the guy jumped out of the ambulance and tried to steal somebody car -- somebody's car, couldn't do it so he ran further to the budget inn, but once firefighters and police got there we told -- ended up in a scuffle inside the patrol car. the car lurches forward up into a wall, and as if that's not crazy enough the guy was running barefoot then in the heat of the day and had to be treated for burns. when he's finally booked, police will be releasing his name. a 15-year-old girl is fighting to survive this morning after she was found at the bottom of a pool and chandler. she was taken to the hospital and are told she is breathing. her dad gave her cpr after she was pulled from the pool. you can see the pool does have a fence around it so it's clear

sheriff joe arpaio is trying to try -- cash in on its -- his email troubles. a lot of people are looking at this. he mentions the potential for criminal charges stemming from the racial profiling case. we're still waiting for the u.s. attorney to decide on that but an email -- in an email he bashes the judge and the aclu and then at the bottom there he asks simply for a $50 donation. accused jewel thief. they see 19-year-old lindsey knox and her boyfriend stole more than $3000 in jewelry for homes -- from homes in some -- soon -- sun city. before being arrested they say she returned some of the items with a hand written apology letter. this morning her boyfriend is still on the run.

home. temporary overflow shelter near 12th avenue and jackson will stay open through the end of february. the maricopa county board of supervisors approved the funding for that facility. often people are left homeless because of things they cannot control like this man who lost his job of five years because of health issues. once he recovered he started looking for work again. >> i am doing like 20 job searches a day. >> that's good news. the shelter will be able to house up to 250 people night. the county will also help them find permanent housing. phoenix mesa gateway airport is getting a whopping $9 million for a makeover, one of the largest federal grants they've received since transitioning to a regional airport. the year-long project set to begin next month will add more than 100 jobs to that area.

outside the airport and some of these roads are actually slick over here right now but they are drying up a little bit. but look in the sky, look at those dark clouds. this is where iris hermosillo sent us telling us they believe the storms are heading around this way so we will be keeping an eye out and as soon as we start to get anything here we will bring that to you live that we have been all throughout the valley this morning tracking some of these rain chances. it's been very on and off so as soon as we get any of that rain coming down we will be sure to bring that to you guys so you can track it also. reporting in the live drive, allison rodriguez abc15. >> and if you look to your right you will see that much of rain heavy -- moving your way through peoria and glendale. some folks are also hearing thunder as this batch of rain moves to the northeast. it is tracking northeast towards deer valley so ride along that intersection of the loop 101 and the 17, that batch

keep pushing northeast up to cave creek. we've also had spotty light sprinkles near son lake and a few spotty -- near some sick -- sun lake. so some scattered showers around the valley, not a complete washout but enough to get the roads wet. you may want to give yourself extra time and i am tracking another area of heavy rain south of maricopa. that will push up toward maricopa and if it does hold together it could make it way -- all the way into the southeast valley. so we have a chance for showers in the next couple of hours and then we get a bit of a break before we see another round of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and some of those could being -- bring gusty winds and the threat of dust. so a lot to look out for the next couple of days. this morning we are down to 82 degrees in phoenix. we will warm into the 90s but that's it -- climbing to 92 by

high today of 99 degrees because of the extra monsoon moisture. we will look out to the weekend forecast in a few minutes but mallory, you've been watching the roads for us. on i-10 i told you a couple minutes ago it looked like rush- hour and with the rain in the west valley, things would start to slow down and you are now seeing those delays. this is eastbound on the 10 from 75th avenue until you hit the mini stack. the delays hit right there probably about 83rd. and i want the challenge is -- where the showers are tracking. take a look at our adot camera, loop 101 right at thunderbird. you can see some of those showers causing the shine on the roadway so that's what you will see if you are headed toward the northwest part of the valley, dan. more than just boxes? precious memories stolen. what was inside that the family wants back no questions asked. couldn't spell the end for

deer valley, moving into where you are and will eventually go out to cave creek. we have showers moving out of sun city west pushing toward the loop 303 and further to the east again i mentioned the state route 51 getting in some light rain, but that will push up toward desert ridge marketplace this morning so watch for that if you are in the north valley. a few spotty pop-ups there in central phoenix but not as heavy and then as we take the wide view, we take spotty pop- ups out west but again the bulk of that is really pushing up into deer valley and areas along the north valley. it is something i will keep watching. a chance for scattered showers to the next couple of hours and then a bit of a low in the rain chances -- but by this afternoon they start go back up and the storm chances are in the forecast through the day on saturday as we get active weather heading our way so keep that abc15 mobile app handy. storms will

could produce strong winds -- and dust also. a quick peek at the 7-day forecast shows you only up to 99 degrees today. i will break this down further in just a few minutes. the only hotspot still this morning's i-10 in the west valley but there's an extension here where you are seeing with roads continuing all the way past the i-17 stacked. just south of the 10 you will see the road closure becau sinkhole opened up yesterday afternoon. 35th avenue at then bear in is shut off and it will be closed off for probably a week or so as they make repairs the 27th and buckeye will bear smart routes for some time if you usually take that area. it's -- loop 101 is a little bit slow right near 64th street. you can see the car off on your left-hand side. i think this is part of some road work that happened earlier this morning but you can see traffic is a little heavy coming around that curve.
