it's 5:00 a.m. on saturday we are start being breaking news. >> shots fired west phoenix 51st and thomas this one is involving a police officer. >> let's get straight out to abc 15s. mary ellen. were any officers >> reporter: now we are being told by phoenix police none of the officers were injured although this is an officer involved shooting. let me show you the police presence right now you can see we have a number of police cars this scene is going from 59th to 57th avenue a lot of it centered in this apartment building back here you see. you can see some police officers there. now what residents are telling us they woke up to a hail of

that, that police knocked on the door and actually cleared residents out of their apartments so they could find the suspect. we are told the suspect was according to residents running from police when they fired, and shot and according to phoenix police they are saying the suspect is down. they have told me he is still here at the scene which is unusual if he is injured according to residents he is more than injured they are we are waiting for confirmation from phoenix police. about 20 units were evacuated in this police scene and most of those residents are at a fast food restaurant just a short ways away, kind of waiting out until they can get back into their apartments. again we have an officer involved shooting none of the officers are injured but one suspect is down. live in phoenix, abc 15 news. >> thank you.

degrees muggy outside phoenix sky harbour by noon 93, by 4:00 p.m. 98 degrees we will hold on to the storm threat throughout the morningly break down the best storm chances in a few minutes. thank you. let's get to more news breaking overnight we are waiting to learn the condition of a person struck by a vehicle while walking. all this has beening early this morning -- all this happening early this morning. phoenix police are still investigating we talked to the stayed on scene and are co- operating she tells us the victim stumbled on to the street. he suffered an injury to the head and was rushed to hospital. as soon as we find out more details we will pass them on to you. a large fire erupting at this home near 35th and green way, dozens of firefighter s with phoenix and glendale fire called out to this one we are told heavy smoke and fire was spread throughout the 3 level home. you can see damage to the

everybody inside was able to get out safely investigators are looking into what sparked those flames. many of you left without power about 11,000 customers impacted at one point. police officers on the street keeping everybody safe. traffic lights also went out. we just checked abs's website looks like all of that power is back on. a guy looks through his dad's old stuff and thought he found a bomb and fire department in carefree firefighters called in the bomb squad. here is that bomb robot and picking up a stick of something puts it into a blast box and then you see the bomb squad carrying that box away they put the box inside of a truck and they drove off to blow it up somewhere the fire chief says if anybody finds explosives do not bring them to the fire station. >> if anyone finds anything suspect, in their home, in

near 77th and osborne police are investigating each call that comes in. we spoke to a woman who lives right next door to that car called in she is glad people are now paying attention. >> we are looking for each other's safety, but then at the same time i think it is sad for the neighbors you know, it is their vehicle we see the black bmw older model to call in, just for safety purposes. >> police are working around the clock but we enough how valuable tips are if you know anything call silent wit think have upped that reward to -- witness they have upped that reward to $75,000. we have been taking action every day to get the word out about the serial shooter. hispanic leaders say many in their community don't know enough about it. >> the community is tire that i had just want this guy -- tired they just want this guy caught.

who fired shots. this man facing charges in the deaths of two nuns killed in mississippi 46-year-old rodney sanders with two counts of capitol murder. the sisters never showed up to work thursday their bodies were discovered 10 miles from where they lived both were 68, sanders is now being held by authorities until his first appearance. over to kansas city this morning where heavy rains are you can see cars submerged in the water parts of the city completely off limits too as emergency crews try to scour the area looking for anybody in need. it followed a system that produced tornado warnings at least one touching down outside of the city reports of downed tree limbs and branches in major damage to structures and no injuries reported in that one either but hard to imagine that, you know we get some of the rains every so often and

80 scottsdale, 82 mesa, chandler, 84 good year and 80 in peoria. i am tracking desert doppler. you can see what is happening this is a cell that moved through sun city west you can see it quickly but that orange that is a heavier cell we are seeing lightning with that. i am going to manipulate this a bit. for the most part the valley is dry as you head 17, past deer valley, along cape creek you can see, we are seeing more heavier cells in this area and then i am going to move to the north a little bit as i continue to manipulate this past north river. lots of lightning there. and if we move more towards the north and east where this is tracking looks like camp verde,

northwest valley, sun city west, surprise, right along the 303 seeing the heaviest, deer valley picking up on that. if we can i want to go farther north, quart junction, cape verde, lake montezuma. this area, picking up the bulk of the storm activity heavy rains, lots of lightning keep that in mind as you go throughout the morning this will last for the next hour. let's go ahead and br what you can expect upper 70s low 80s in the valley partly cloudy, holding on to a chance of showers as we are in the low 90s upper 90s after that, showers are still possible, but coming up in just a few minutes we will break down when exactly the most likely window will be for us to see more storm activity and continue to keep our eyes on desert doppler. >> from one top story to

officer involved shooting no officer were injured in this shooting they are not telling us why officers were responding to this suspect residents are telling us it was about 3:30 a.m. when they heard those shots sort of ring out or 3:00 a.m. when they heard the shots ring out. they are telling us phoenix police evacuated an entire building most of them having to leave without belongings only able to take their with them. and according to phoenix police the suspect is down they are not telling us whether he is injured or dead but residents are telling us something. >> i think went inside to the apartment and dragged the body outside. >> did you see that? >> yeah. >> was the guy still alive? >> no. >> again we are back out here this is the apartment building

on a saturday live lookout side with one of our valley cameras as we check in with temperatures you can see a mix of cloudsun this morning. 82 mesa, 81 litchfield park, 82 tempe and 83 glendale across the rest of the state not too bad 60s sedona, 40s flagstaff, 66 kingman, 64 globe and 74 in tucson. let's take a quick look at our satellite radar right now you can see the clouds too. this is we are seeing big glob of moisture push in from the west and move towards the north and to the east i want to zoom in a little bit show you where the bulk of this activity is. it is passing prescott near sedona, flagstaff i just had a viewer tell me it is pouring in flagstaff keep that in mind if you are driving along the 17. even parts of the valley, well, north of us really, are getting a bulk of that.

moment ago. we are told it will be out here for most of the morning this was actually from what we are hearing, a very scary situation for one woman who lived in these apartment buildings according to police she had a romantic interest, a boyfriend, that had left some items there, a few days ago. we understand there were issues between the two. he showed up according to police at 3 this morning with a gun and on drugs demanding these items, holding her inside this apartment. she managed to get a text message out to family who called police seven officers confronted that suspect in that apartment. but rather than comply, we are told he actually held the gun pointed it towards officers and that is when those seven officers fired. killing that suspect. so phoenix police confirming right now, that the suspect is not just down but he is dead
