community for -- spotlight, lighting up the community for generations to come. >> and we'll have more on the mueller's claim that president obama didn't donate to their foundation like he propositioned. and there's -- promised. >. in tolleson a car hit a pedestrian, and the driver took off, we're getting more information about the car, the driver and right now a man in serious condition after he was hit by a car earlier today while he was walking at 51st and mcdowell this morning. we talked to the driver of that vehicle who did stay on the scene, and is cooperating. she tells us the victim stumbled out into the street. he suffered an injury to the head and was rushed to the hospital. the driver didn't appearing to be speeding or drunk according to police. state police responded to a

turned deadly when the woman's ex-boyfriend pointed a gun for them. we first broke the story this morning. the deadly officer-involved shooting happening at an apartment complex at 57th avenue and thomas. maryellen resendez talk with people that live nearby. >> grabbed my wife and we went to the pact room. >> reporter: residents take cover after shots ring out close by. it all started with one of the residents sent a text to family telling them she and her two children needed help. her ex-boyfriend allegedly showed up to her apartment, high on drugs and with a gun. police responded in full force. >> the woman opened the door, then the subject appeared in the hallway. the suspect presented a gun, pointed it at the officers, and one of the officers fired on the suspect ending the threat. >> reporter: and the 25-year- old man's life. unsure of what lay inside, officers quickly got neighbors out of their apartments into

leave everything, wallet and everything inside. >> we do the best we can to approach safely taking victims' safety into account before our own, and the unpredictability of the suspect, so that's on our minds, and we must be ready for it. >> reporter: for extra precaution a a nine officer was -- canine officer the women and her children are -- woman and her children are safe. >> at this point police haven't released the identity of the suspect shot and killed. all right, switching gears over the weather. more monsoon storms in parts of the state, but right here in the valley, beautiful outside. a lot of clear skies. meteorologist laura thomas tracking everything out there for you. >> yeah, and you're looking at a little video shot this morning here in the valley. you see some of the lightning

but we did see some rain this morning, but a different story out there this afternoon as we're looking at sunny and dry conditions. drier air now filtering in as the storm system works out of arizona. temperatures in phoenix today 98. that's below the average high, the average high is 104, and far from the record set in 2009 of 113. pretty nice start this morning, hitting the low 80s, so cloud cover helping to keep us on the warmer side. outside now looking back to sky harbor, not a cloud in the sky back abc 15 desert doppler all quiet here, and i'm expecting it to stay this way through the rest of the evening. however we do have showers and thunderstorms up across the high country right now northeast of flagstaff back near prescott as well, and parts of grand canyon picking up a little thunder shower activity. all part of a system across northern arizona. we'll keep the chances of rain north tonight. we'll talk about that a little bit more, but a quick look for

nice, quiet, and dry night for us here and tomorrow. and a little warmer. 97 today, and the upper 90s by 2:00 tomorrow. highsat 4:00 at 101, so closer to the averages, but still slightly below. ozone, the high pollution advisory in effect right now, and tomorrow we'll once again will under thible ozone health watch as the levels could rise back into the unhealthy for sensitive groups, sensitive watch out for that. more in the forecast coming up. all right action thank you. it's been a tough day for one driver in the valley. an adot camera shows a car on fire at the loop 101 and bell road. we're waiting to get more information on what happened. investigators trying to figure out how a fire broke out at a home this morning. crews battling the flames at

smoke spread throughout the three-level home. we could shelliest of damage out there in the -- we could see a lot of damage out there in the garage and attic. everyone inside was able to get out safely. and busy valley freeways shut down for the weekend, the loop 101 in scottsdale. traffic moving at cactus, but northbound lanes closed at 90th street and mcdonald, and staying that way until early monday morning for repaving. an directions between indian school and thomas until 7:30 thunderstorm morning. this is for overhead cablework being done. all systems are a go for bell road to be open until surprise by november. adot says construction of an overpass is moving ahead, and the eastbound lanes of grand are getting a makeover, and concrete will be poured on the overpass to carry bell road

right now phoenix police asking for your help to find a guy who ripped a necklace right off a woman at a valley mall. the thief caught here on video. you can see him walking into the desert sky mall on west thomas road. this happened the afternoon of july 6th. he runed up to the 19-year-old woman, rips the necklace off her neck, and runs out to a waiting get away car. that victim ran after the guy,

the thief is about 17 years old. the get away car is a gray chrysler pt cruiser. if you know anything about the crime call silent witness. as always you can remain anonymous, and could be eligible for a cash reward. and they also need help finding whoever severely abused on abandoned puppy. we want to warn you the story might be hard for some to handle and graphic images here. we're blurring the photos sent to us. police saying last tuesday injured puppy was found abandoned at 69th and van buren in phoenix with severe head trauma, and had to be euthanized. we're told if the wounds had been treated earlier the puppy likely would have survived and recovered. later we'll talk to silent witness about the animal abuse case. donald trump criticizing the obama administration over cash paid out to iran, and hillary clinton talking about her time as secretary of state.

and from their calendar it could be an option. the arizona primary election on the three days away, and the county recorder is trying to make sure there are no problems. purcell held a training class today for troubleshooters who will help at the polling locations on election night. >> and they have five to six polling places apiece, and it's important they carry with them information, extra equipment >> there are 100 of the specialized polling place helpers spread across the valley. she says they'll also have hot lines for the poll workers and troubleshooters to call in case of emergency. a safety alert, and a heads up if you or somebody you know likes to hike or camp at mount lemon. be on the look out for a bear that's pretty comfortability around people -- comfortable around people. it's seen several times this summer. the bear isn't overly

flagstaff airport, just so you know as we're looking forward to fall, the earliest snow in the city is september 19th, happening in 1965 where they received just about two inches with the average first snow in flagstaff november 11thable, so we have awhile until we see the snow. we have severe weather in the north, thunderstorm producing large hail, damaging winds, a lot of lightning with at and even a few thunderstorms around the govern right now. little -- grand canyon right now. little down to the south, strong thunderstorms near prescott. you see these continue to develop, and moving east tonight. and they'll continue to do so over the next couple of hours, but the valley rain chances, even across maricopa county, things staying dry here as we have dry air now beginning to work in, and looking at the valley with me, all quiet. not expecting that to change.

there. 94 in scottsdale, 97 in chandler, and luke air force base at 96. wind speeds light across the valley, 5 to 10 miles per hour, little breezy in goodyear out of the westerly direction at 12 hers, but overowl -- miles per hour, but overall a beautiful saturday evening shaping up. out across the state we have the storm system sitting up to the north, that's bringing the showers and thunderstorms again across northern arizona. this is going to move to east as we go through the next several hours. looking with me on the futurecast, we put it into motion you'll see the circulation of the storm system move to the east overnight. still a slight chance of a few showers and thunderstorms north. valley stays dry tonight. may see a couple of passing clouds off the higher terrain with the chance of showers and thunderstorms again in the northeast pocketer of arizona -- pocket of arizona tomorrow, but overall high pressure is building in, and rain chances for the valley, but state-wide begin to diminish.

in sedona, 72 in prescott. 90s bullhead city and lake havasu, 96 in gila bend. overnight lows in the 70s west, 50s along the rim. 70s here across the valley, and upper 60s in tucson tomorrow morning. heading back to 101 tomorrow, so warmer here in phoenix. 84 in sedona, and keeping those below average highs even in flagstaff at 72 degrees. looking at the valley forecast with me tonight, going to be a very pleasant and quiet one. looking for overnight lows to be below avera. all in the 70s tomorrow. slightly below average highs tomorrow afternoon. 101 in gilbert and deer valley hitting 100. look at the most accurate forecast with me. we heat things up as high pressure building in. 104 monday, 105 tuesday. breezes picking up wednesday with slight rain chances wednesday, thursday, and friday. >> all right, thank you. the arizona cardinals headed to houston to take on the texans.

out six to ten weeks. san francisco 49ers quarterback refused to stand for the national anthem last night prior to the niners game against the packers. talking with a media reporter he said he's not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. he says to me it's bigger than football, and it's my part to look the other way. there are bodies in the street, and people getting paid to get away with murder. and the 49ers and nfl responded saying they acknowledge a person's right not to participate in the national anthem. players are encouragedbut not required to stand during the playing of the anthem. more on that coming up later. turning to high school football, the saber cats taking

if you're just joining us tonight, the top story, a dedication ceremony held an an arizona woman captured and killed by isis. kayla mueller was killed last year, with you she's remembered as a -- but she's remembered as a humanitarian who loved children. several businesses and the community came together working to build this special space for a place that's seen so much tragedy over the last few years. >> i know going to take, i know they'll never get over it. i can't imagine losing a child, but this is the silver lining in the dark cloud, and if a couple of kids grow up saying i want to be like kayla mueller, then we did a good thing. >> it took more than a year to build. meantime kayla mueller's parents speaking out about a promise from the president they say was not kept, and the white

-- responding to this. >> my name is kayla mueller. >> reporter: it's been three years this month that kayla mueller was first taken hostage by isis. >> very terrifying here. >> reporter: her parents, marcia and carl learned of her death 18 months later, when isis sent pictures of their daughter's body. president obama said he was heart broken, and traveled to arizona to meet the mueller's and asked what he could do them. >> i said i'd be remiss if i didn't give i the opportunity to help her foundation, and he said i will. i'm still waiting. >> there hasn't been such a donation? >> no. i'm still waiting for that donation mr. president. >> reporter: at the white house friday, an abc news correspondent pressed for a comment. >> can the mueller family expect him to make a donation

be put down. it was found in a basket near this canal, and these are the blurred pictures we can show you. the other pictures were just two graphic. the puppy appeared to have severe head trauma, and from the injuries they could tell it wasn't caused by another animal. last tuesday somebody found the puppy here, and maricopa county animal care and control took the puppy and had toll euthanize it because of the severe injuries. they said if it sooner it could have recovered. >> if you didn't want to dog, why not just give it to someone who did? the fact that you could look at an innocent creature and inflict damage on them knowing they're getting hurt and ultimately died as a result of this, you have top wonder about the person's well being. >> reporter: and this is being investigated as felony animal cruelty. silent witness trying to find the person behind this. anyone with information should

anonymous. the reward for information is up to a thousand dollars. back to you kim. >> all right, thank you very much. tonight the violence in chicago is hitting home for a basketball tarp. dwayne wade in morning after his cousin was -- mourning after his cousin was gunned down while walking down the street pushing her baby in a stroller. >> reporter: enough is enough. dwayne wade taking his message to twitter one day after a stray bullet hit and killed his cousin in chicago. he tweeted another act of senseless violence. four kids lost their mom for no reason. the city of chicago is hurting. we need more help and more hands and on deck. the 32-year-old woman was caught in the cross fire as she pushed her baby in the stroller on the city's south side friday afternoon. an innocent victim killed in a violent crime epidemic. >> we have a crime scene. >> reporter: the murder rate in

terrifying moments for a plane full of people at 30,000 feet. an engine ripped right off the plane shortly after take off. the southwest flight from new orleans to orlando had more than 100 people on board. these images just coming in. terrified passengers saying they heard on explosion. the pilot reading the emergency checklist, passengers forced to put on their marks as the cabin lost pressure. the images showing the jet

it's what the 99 passengers saw as they looked out their windows. >> we heard a loud boom, sounds like an 18-wheeler tire blowing, and um, we started smelling smoke. >> the plane landed safely in pensacola with no apparent injuries to anyone on board. the investigation is underway at this hour. two mississippi nuns stabbed to death, and now a man arrested in connection to the crime. authorities believe the suspect broke into and stole their car ditched about a mile from the house. the two women were nurse practitioners working in the state's poorest counties. police in ohio are shocked after a convicted inmate jumped to his death after his court hearing. it happened after a judge handed down a 13-year prison sentence. the man was convicted of attempted murder and felony assault after shooting a man

the man out of courtroom, he jumped from the third floor falling to his death. heavy rain soaking kansas city area again, causing major flooding and prompting several water rescues. fire crews say two women had to be saved after their car was caught in the high water. they were pulled into a boat and brought back to dry land. emergency crews also had to rescue a woman and her two dogs trapped in their car due to the flash flooding. well, look at this. like a scene straight out of movie. two stranded mariners rescued after a navy aircraft spotted sos etched in the sand. the survivors were stuck for eight days on a beach inthe pacific ocean with no supplies or emergency equipment. it might be the only time they say a health care professional all yearlong. the big show of support in the community to make sure everyone

scammer. phone calls from fake irs agents demanding a federal student tax, and if you don't send the money right away, you're going to jail. say it with me, this is a scam. there's no federal student tax. it's just another way for the clowns to get your money, and a lot of you are telling me it's getting worse. bill in goodyear, joe, i received a phony irs lawsuit call. stayty rights i was -- stacey rights i was told i recently went through an man called 11 times when i hung up, and trixie says it's time to remind the people again. she's right. the irs will not calling demanding payment for a debt, ask you to wire money or pay by gift cards or threaten to take you to jail if you don't pay. so if you get the call, and you probably will, hang up. and we have it online now, share it so parents, kids, and grandparents won't be the next
