state senator kelly ward. jon erickson is at the campaign headquarters for jane, and the question -- john mccain, and the answer to the question we might get tonight is how mad are the people in arizona? >> reporter: it doesn't sound like a retirement party, but retire is exactly what state senator kelly ward is asking voters to do to john mccain. she questioned if mccain could survive senate. not politically, but stay alive. we know people in arizona voted to try something new voting for trump who won the state in his primary, so will the same voters decide to try something new in the senate? giving ward the victory over mccain? the washington post said this week mccain is in the political fight of his life, and the question we mentioned earlier tonight is what effect will trump have on the race? ward closely alined herself

four candidates are running in the race. biggs, olson former maricopa county supervisor stapely, and christine jones. one will take over chandler and gilbert from salmon who's retiring. olson's team made an all out effort today they say on phones and door to door. jones' campaign poured millions of dollars into television ads trying to set field of career politicians, and stapely's people are hoping for an election day surge from voters because of his sheer name recognition. many have to drive a road named after him to get to a polling place today. they're well known politicians, and for some people they're saying it's hard to choose because they know more than one of them personally. back to you. >> it's a very exciting race to

after changing their pleas to guilty. and the police are remaining tight lipped about a deadly officer involved shooting, not saying anymore until they sort out the details. but the victim is 35-year-old paula phillips. she pointed a gun at an officer during a traffic stop. hosed off and facing charges after this dramatic arrest in phoenix overnight. we don't know the mystery man's name, but we know what police tell us, and they say he was involved in quite driving 100 miles an hour down i-17, rear ended a woman asacria car, and try -- a woman's car, and tried to take off, but a tow truck driver saw him and chased him down. tonight phoenix police may notice a few more tan suvs on the road as they search for a gunman that was part of a drive by shooting overnight. the victim was standing in his driveway and hit. he was shot in the arm, and expected to be okay.

the one thing detectives can confirm, it's not related to the serial shootings. his job was to hand out flier, but one man was using it as a cover up to commit crime. mason was working near 67th avenue and deer valley and spotted a house to break into. megan thompson is live in the neighborhood, and what was it that finally got this guy caught? >> reporter: it was technology, and as it turns out his employer, the one that paid him to tape the fliers up and down the neighborhood they had a gps tracker on him, and realized he was sitting in one spot a little too long, and realized he was probably doing something he shouldn't be. >> yeah, they will really kicked it in. >> reporter: her back door wasn't open for guests, but one crook decided to invite himself in. >> all of this paneling was gone. it was all broken off, and you

his dog back. >. and now to the forecasts, a new video of the dust that picked up earlier. take a look at this near pecos. the man had to pull over, doing exactly what you're supposed to do. in the car with four kids, so staying safe in the dust. here's a live look from the queen creek cam. earlier we couldn't see anything off this, but now visibility is improving, the dust is starting to settle. still seeing skies across a big chunk of pinal county action but overall -- pinal county, but overall visibility much better. still a few clouds in the distance, and the mayo cam as well spotting a few rain drops. we have desert doppler tracking two isolated cells just popping up in the last 20 minutes or so in the west valley. the first one here is right near 51st avenue between lower buckeye and southern.

developing by the hour from the abc 15 live desk, it seems like singer chris brown is in trouble again. los angeles police have arrested brown on suspicion assault with a deadly weapon. the arrest came after this long search of his home. police are saying it started with a woman called 911 claiming brown point aid gun at her face -- pointed a gun at her face inside the home. and police are saying brown is cooperating with them. meantime brown has been in repeated legal trouble since his felony conviction of his

for the first time we're hearing the 911 calls made on the night of the deadly shooting at the pulse night club. >> my brother is in there. he called from the bathroom and said there's a lot of dead people, and i don't know. >> okay. >> that's just one of many calls providing a snapshot of the sheer horror the families and survivors endured. according to the fbi there's surveillance video showing multiple angles of allegedly calling 911 himself to pledgee allegiance to isis. in the end more than 40 people died. >. and good samaritans coming to the rescue, and both were caught on camera. first in new york, a semi truck plows through traffic slamming into several cars. one catches on fire, and bystanders quickly jump into action as we see pulling the woman out.

louisiana, a news photographer pulls a 7 months pregnant woman out of her car seconds after she crashed into a tree. thanksfully everyone is -- tankfully everyone is expected to be okay. and they were traveling to louisiana to help with flood victims, but the driver of the bus crashed and killed two, one was a fire chief. he was an undocumented immigrant without a legal driver louisiana us senators are questioning the dhs on why rodriguez was in the us to begin with. you may remember a similar story here in the valley in 2014. a mesa police officer killed when an illegal immigrant drove the wrong way, and during donald trump's phoenix rally tomorrow his mother will join the presidential candidate on stage. you can see trump's speech tomorrow here on abc 15. that starts at 6:00. unborn babies exposed to the zika virus should have their hearing tested after birth.

cloudy skies. an isolated storm or two in the denver forecast saturday if you're headed up there. monsoon moisture flowing into new mexico and colorado, but they should dry out into sunday and monday. there's a look at the showers and thunderstorms firing up with the monsoon today. much of the activity has been centered out to the east, but we saw a few storms develop in the higher terrain northeast of the valley, and yeah, some of them moved in. so let's take a look at what we expect going into tomorrow. same story, the best chances for storms in the higher terrain east and northeast of may even see some across southeast arizona too, and there's a slight chance that some of the action heads down into the lower elevations. a better chance into thursday. still not great, but we up it from 10 percent to 20 percent in the phoenix metro for the thursday forecast, and a slight chance of a little more action friday before drying things out into the wind. right now at 99 subpoena duces tecum degrees in -- 99 degrees in phoenix, through the 90s at 7:00, and low 90s late tonight. 84 for the wake up tomorrow
