and radar. that's going to clear up as we continue on through the morning. this is a live look outside one of our valley cameras here, and you can see the temps not bad at all. in the 70s in chandler. low 80s in mesa and deer valley as well. mid-80s in glendale. this is kind of the tradeoff for us here. it's hot during day, and overnight lows are starting to cool a little bit here. today we'll top degrees. tomorrow 101. it's looking great, and spoiler alert, your labor day forecast is looking great as well. that will be in a couple minutes. >> we'll get to the local breaking news in just a minute. first, an officer critically wounded after a shooting in atlantic city. according to authorities one suspect was killed during the shootout with police. one officer is in surgery. this happened at the parking garage. we know there's a search for at

that area has been blocked off, and as soon as we get more details and updates, we'll pass them along to you. >> more breaking news happening in the valley. police are investigating a stabbing here. it happened at 16th street and roosevelt. that's where we find maryellen resendez. what are you finding out about any of the victims. >> the victim was rushed to the local hospital which happens to be across the street here, with at least three different stab we're told he was stabbed in both arms and once in the neck. he was parked where this officer is in a pickup truck. according to him and the witness, they were sleeping in the truck when the suspect just came up and started attacking him. you see that is where the truck is. he was able to back up to try and get away from the suspect, so that's where his truck ended up. now, according to police, they do have a description of a suspect, and they are searching for him right now.

witnesses, one that was outside the truck, and one that was inside the truck that that suspect just came up and started attacking that man while he was actually sleeping inside his truck attacking him through that window, and then he has two sort of stab wound cuts to the arm, and again one to the neck. we're told all of them are nonlife threatening and he should be okay. we're back here live. now we're also hearing of a shooting at another we're going to be heading that way, nick. we'll bring you more on this scene and that scene in just a bit. maryellen resendez abc15 news. >> we appreciate your work out there. several fires breaking overnight. let's get straight to them. this one happening here at an apartment complex near i-17 and greenway. at least two units damaged by the flames. the good news is it does appear everybody made it out safely. it's unclear if anybody had to

let's get to this one, an apartment complex at 43rd 43rd avenue and thunder bird. several firefighters came out to battle this blaze here, and you can see the flashing lights. we are, work to go figure out how this happened or what was the incident that caused that but we'll let you know as soon as we find out more from them. let's get to this house fire here sparked near 7th avenue and southern. we're told this was a vacant house here. nobody was inside at the time. firefighters were able to stop the flames from spreading. damaged. no word on what sparked this one yet. >> a fourth fire sparking early this morning. this is south of downtown near 7 7th avenue and grand. a huge response at this point. dozens of firefighters battling the flames. we're told people living there made it out safely. as soon as we get more detail, we'll let you know, and we're getting word of a 5th fire. this one happening, north phoenix area, cave creek and

including car jacking, armed robbery and prostitution. the report sent to the judge said she was a flight risk. she's supposed to be back in court september 15th. a man hunt underway for five people after a teenager is jumped, stabbed and left for dead, all over a bicycle. this all unfolding in a neighborhood between chandler and ray. this morning, police revealing they're looking for a blue and brown sedan. we are working to get an update on the condition of that 16- year-o. strike again. investigators in chandler responding to the 6th 6th suspicious fire in a month near mcclintock and chandler boulevard. this is the latest fire after a trailer, car, backyard fence and a house all went up in flames recently. at this point, police can't tell us if all of these fires are connected. they are looking for a pattern. one woman we spoke with has two young kids and she says she's terrified. she says if there's one person

police say he broke into a mesa business. marty anderson left his car at the crime scene, and decided to report it as stolen. police say that's one thing he didn't factor in. his dna was all over the business, and stolen items were also found in his car. he's changing his plea this morning. daniel boyd divit plead not guilty, the mesa man inappropriately touched a young girl, and saved multiple photos and videos of her. he's scheduled to be sentence next month. problem is the court filing on the settlement doesn't specify a number. we only know that the lawyers pressing for a criminal case wanted nearly $6 million. so whatever the agreement, county officials still have to put it in for a vote. well, it's a face you're about to see more often. u.s. marshalls say they are ready to end this guy's 16 year

a shooting at 36th avenue and southern. abc15's maryellen resendez is on the scene. mare ellen, you have been out there for about a half hour, what are you finding out from police. >> reporter: well, police are confirming that at least one person was shot. they just told us that it was actually a homeowner. let me step aside so you can see the scene out here. of course everything is still kind of revolving out here. according to phoenix police, the homeowner was leaving for work when for some reason he was confronted by two they got into some type of altercation. he was shot in the chest. we are told he is in extreme critical condition. he was rushed to a local hospital. now phoenix police still not sure exactly what that altercation was over. one of the things that they are investigating is that there were several or there were a few open doors, two cars in the area. it's still too early to say whether or not those vehicles were being broken into or not. all they know is it's very suspicious to come into a

say is suspicious is they are a few cars out here that actually had their doors open. now, they have not said whether those cars were being broken into or not because they're still investigating on whether exactly what was happening with those cars, and again, the only witness to this right now is that man who is in critical condition, and in the hospital. that homeowner that was leaving for work. we know there was a 911 call, from someone inside the who called police once they heard that gunshot. we are out here live, we're going to stay out here live and get updated information. as soon as we know more we'll get that to you. live in south phoenix, maryellen resendez, abc15 news. maryellen, thank you very much. breaking overnight, one man is in the hospital after being stabbed multiple times. this happened at a circle k near 16th street and roosevelt. witnesses say the victim was asleep in the vehicle when the suspect approached him and started attacking him. one of those stab wounds was to the neck.

but police have not said yet what led to the attack. the suspect being described now as a hispanic man in his 20s with light colored clothing. the feds are gearing up for a kratom crack down. don't know the drug, well, you should. you can actually buy it in stores right now. abc15's kim tobin has more on the debate, and on the dangers with this drug. >> reporter: it comes in pill, powder, and liquid, and in one month, the dea is ordering kratom off all putting it on the same level as heroin. >> high potential for abuse. >> reporter: supporters say the herbal medicine relieves pain, and claim it can be a cure for opiate addiction. the fda doesn't have enough studies to prove it. and the dea says emergency room visits increased 1000% over the last ten years, and in the last two years, 15 deaths have been tied to the drug. >> for us it's a concern.
