this is abc15 taking action. >> phoenix police sorting out a car crash and a shooting all in one place. we'll sort things out for you coming up in a few minutes. and one of our first responders is injured in a crash. and an old battle reigniting between donald trump and one of our state's leaders. the harsh words donald trump has for senator jeff flake. >> some of you are tuning in after the notre dame, texas game. something that made me happy when i stepped outside, it was actually a little cooler. at least it felt that way. >> definitely some reason to

valley cameras. it looks awfully nice. 78degrees right now. and the humidity is not bad. 32% and a slight breeze and winds out of the east at 8 miles per hour. let's talk about the most accurate forecast throughout your labor day. sunny conditions and no rain in the forecast. 84degrees by 9:00. we'll stay in the low to mid- 80s. 91 by 11:00. and by 1:00, we're to upper 90s. today's high, 102. right about where we should be. i'm tracking big changes in the forecast. we'll have more on that in just a few minutes. in the west valley a large police scene near 85th avenue and mcdowell. katie connor is just now

learn more information from the sergeant. and police are focusing on a home on this side of the street. there are a dozen patrol cars here up and down the street here off of berkeley. when we got here after 4:00 this morning we saw the police helicopters searching from above. at one point we did hear the pilot speaking or calling out to the suspect. we do not know if that person has been the helicopter as been called off from the scene. we are waiting for more information from phoenix police. but chris, this is less than 4 miles from the triple murder route. this neighborhood is on edge, wanting to know what exactly the police presence is all about. >> large police presence. the minute you have an update, let us know. the breaking news doesn't end there. i have to tell you about

of what appears to be a shooting and a crash. and one car halfway into a building this morning. all of this happening around 2:00 this morning near 27th avenue and camelback. justin, what are detectives telling you about this? >> reporter: i can tell you at this point detectives -- a large group of detectives are on scene right now. it's kind of dark but 8 to 10 law enforcement officials are in there trying to this out. we can see three evidence markers. and we believe those are shell casings. and the body is still on the scene. this is a large crime scene. police were called out to the area for a gunshot wound. and when they got here they found a car inside what we believe is an apartment complex. we're not sure if the guy was killed by a bullet or the impact into the building that killed him. i can tell you paramedics were

might have been doing doughnuts in the nearby parking lot. we were moved back because they believe that is part of the investigation. we're trying to determine how that tied to all of this. but the mobile police command van is a pretty good indication that they'll be here for quite some time. and we've reached out to phoenix police to try to get an update on scene. we're li i we go to tempe now where we're getting an update on the tempe police officer involved in a very bad crash last night. look at the heavy damage to the police cruiser. and another car involved. and investigators say the driver of the black car -- look at that -- turned right in front of the officer who had a green light. the officer treated for what appears to be minor injuries.

driver was hurt or cited. but there's a large police presence there. a motorcyclist taken to the hospital early this morning after getting hit by a car. and it happened on the i-10. this is i-10 near 7th after. dps telling us the driver took off not waiting for officers to show up or to find out if the motorcyclist was alive. we're waiting to find out if they caught that driver. two their atv caught fire. this happened in southern utah. the accident happened happened in the sand flats recreation area in moab. the two were trying to navigate an obstacle called the tip over challenge. crews found the atv on fire.

run down by husband and father after an argument in west phoenix yesterday afternoon. the mother and daughter got out of the way. and a nearby witness shot the suspect. the man drove away and later called 911 saying he had been shot. he went to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. police don't know who the vigilante gunman is. a body was found in a burned apartment. this happened on thunderbird. investigators are trying to figure out if that man was killed before the fire or during. we know arson investigators were called to the scene. we made some phone calls and we're waiting to hear back. the identity of the victim has not been released. >> >> the search is on for the suspects opening fire on a man in front of his home. the guy was leaving for work

men. one of the men pulled a gun and shot him in the chest. detectives are investigating whether or not the two suspects are connected to car burglaries in the area and if that might have led to the confrontation. the victim is in critical condition. police are asking you to speak up if you know anything about a stabbing that happened saturday morning. a man is recovering after being stabbed several times. all of this 16th and roosevelt. the victim was asleep in his car and someone walked up and attacked him. police are investigating what led up to all of that. don't be lulled by the nice weather. that's a quote, a warning from new jersey governor chris christie. parts of the northeast bracing for hermine, the once hurricane will not quit.

the white house said they've been monitoring the situation, especially since president barack obama was in china at the time of this meeting with the leaders of france and germany. something to keep an eye on today. >> par for the course for the north koreans. >> across the nation we go and a dangerous weekend for officers in several states. in austin, texas, an officer was hit wh motorcycle. he was escorting a funeral procession and a guy turned illegally in front of him. we're waiting to learn more information on several officer involved shootings across the country. in new mexico, dozens of law enforcement officials are saluting an officer whose body was escorted to a funeral home. he was shot chasing a suspect wanted for outstanding

by another officer. three officers recovering, one in atlantic city, new jersey. the wounded officer was hit while getting out of his car. one suspect killed at the scene and two others arrested and in fresno, california, a jail visitor became aggressive. two are in stable but critical condition. students might be enjoying the day is patrolling the campus of one of south carolina's largest high schools. someone posted threats against jewish students. caught on video, two kids hit by trucks just moments after stepping off the school bus. did you see that? that truck going right around the corner there.

and the humidity is not bad. 60s in sedona and 40s in flagstaff. 70s on the colorado river valley. and 60s in southeastern arizona. take a look at clouds and radar. this is the view from the satellite, from up above. not seeing a whole lot. just clouds in northern arizona near the utah border. very quiet and dry for now. and here's why things are going to be changing. this is tropical storm newton, e getting my hands on from the national hurricane center. maximum sustained winds at 45 miles per hour. i want to mention gusts of 52 miles per hour. this is more than 1100 miles south, southeast of phoenix. this is the latest track. and this advisory came out minutes ago. it's going to continue up past baja, california. and what i think is going to happen is by wednesday, that's when it looks like it's going

15's katie conner. officers are swarming a neighborhood near 85th avenue and mcdowell. >> reporter: we moved to the other side of the crime scene. let me step out of the way. the investigation seems to be centering on this two story home. we've watched detectives go in and out of this home. we're waiting for sergeant to update us on what exactly this is all about. you can see berkeley is completely shut and the mood is definitely shifting from when we first got here. after 4 a.m. there was a police helicopter shining in people's backyards, calling for a suspect to come out. the helicopter has left. we do not know if police have located the suspect. the mood has shifted and we no longer see police officers hiding behind the shields like we saw at 4:00 this morning.
