police have the neighborhood near 83rd avenue and berkeley. that's north of mcdowell. this neighborhood was locked down, sealed with crime scene tape. and it's about 10 minutes away from a triple homicide related to the serial street shooter. katie conner is at the scene where police srmed the neighborhood. a lot of concern. what are you now learning that you can tell our viewers. >> reporter: this invasion that happened around 3 a.m. we don't know if anyone was hurt. this was originally dispatched as a shooting early this morning. officers swarmed the neighborhood and searched for the suspect and used a police continuer to help search in the backyard. the search was called off around 4:15 this morning. it's not clear if police have the suspect in custody. police still have the entire street taped off. and they are going in and out

eastbound you're going to see pretty much the same thing. there's a road closure in phoenix that you'll want to watch out for. our first responders on this labor day morning, extremely busy. i have more breaking news to tell you about from the abc 15 live desk. a mystery is unfolding as investigators are trying to figure out who killed a man near 27th avenue and camelback. several layers to the that justin pazera is peeling away with new information. justin-- >> reporter: hey, chris. now that it's daylight we're getting a bigger sense of how big the crime scene is. you can see the officers in the middle of the stride. there's about three shell casings. and they believe that's where the shooting happened. and you can see a car in the middle of the building. it plowed through the brick building. and that's where the victim endedden.

morning. police getting multiple 911 calls. the victim plowed into the brick building. police believe the guy was shot and lost control and then wrecked the car. first officers on scene thought that the ceiling was going to collapse inside the apartment and quickly tried to pull the guy out of the car so phoenix fire could get in and work on that guy. they believe he died from multiple gunshots. as for the folks inside the apartment complex, phoenix police just telling me it's remarkable that they survived. it's just a very tiny apartment. that building just a total loss at this point. as for who did it. police are trying to figure out who pulled that trigger. justin pazera, abc 15. just about 6:zeroand a lot of you have the day off for labor day. and the presidential candidates will be hard at work. >> hillary clinton and donald

warning. and a short time ago the u.s. condemned multiple launches. every time north korea makes a launch, the u.s. strongly condemns the launch. >> something we've seen before. >> and new video south of the border showing severe flooding in acapulco. as many as 200 people were trapped in their homes and had the storms triggered three dozen rock and landslides. when it rains, it pures. we've seen a lot of these types of things. in memphis, eight people -- some of them children -- were hurt. >> the ride's computer went into safety mode for some reason. the operator hit the manual mode button and that released

and of course, that weather. here you go. let's talk about tropical storm newton. this is going to be a big news maker and potentially weather maker later on this week. current conditions, 45 miles per hour. maximum sustained gusts and 52 miles per hour. 1100miles away from phoenix. and you hear that and think it's not going to impact us. right now it's meandering by i don't think it's going to gain atop of strength. it's a weak tropical storm. and as it heads to the north and encounters cooler waters, it's going to weaken. we could get windle and rain. and that's something we'll continue to track. you can track this right along with us. here's how it's going to play into the forecast.

breaking news at 6:30 from the abc 15 live desk. a west phoenix neighborhood waking up to the sounds of police officers on the ground and in the air using the helicopter megaphone at one point. the scene is near 83rd and mcdowell where we find katie conner. she was the first reporter on the scene of the breaking news. is anybody in custody? >> crits, we don't know if they have the suspect in custody. i talked she says it's a very large family that lives in the home that was broken into. we were here as police swarmed the neighborhood, searching on the ground and from the sky. the guy broke in around 3 a.m. and it's not clear if anyone was hurt. this was originally dispatched as a shooting. police blocked the entire neighborhood, searching for guy. we do not know if anyone was taken into custody.

we'll let everyone at home know. also breaking this morning. a man dies after slamming his car right into an apartment complex. but the thing is, police don't yet know if it's the crash that killed him. this all unfolding in this area here. it's just off the i-17. this is camelback and this is 27th avenue. first responders there, they tried to save and he had been shot as well. >> reporter: just really desperate when they tried to save this guy. phoenix police officers put their lives on the line every day. and this was just another chance for them to go in and try to save this person. it happened right behind that black wall there. that's where the car is into the building. i can tell you there are three bullet casings in the middle of the street. they believe that's where the

of his vehicle and wrecked. police were getting moisture 911 calls -- getting multiple 911 calls. police believe he was shot multiple times and then lost control and wrecked into the building. the first officers on scene thought the ceiling was going to collapse so they rushed in, pulled the guy out and tried to save him. he died on the scene. but the apartment complex are okay. we're waiting to get a good description of the suspect. a bizarre shooting. a mother and her 3-year-old daughter narrowly escaped getting hit by a car. the girl's father tried to back into the two after a fight and was shot in the process by a witness. this happened near 43rd avenue and buckeye road.

he went to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. police don't know who the individual lawn tee gunman is -- vigilante gunman is. a detective left the room and a suspect made his move. >> he twisted the handcuffs until they broke. after they flee the building. >> once free he stole a pickup truck. and the truck was recovered saturday. perez is accused of shooting and killing a man. and is armed and dangerous. look at this image coming in. this is of tempe police officer's vehicle just smashed up. it happened near priest and warner. look at the damage to the other

front of the officer who had the green light. the officer was treated for minor injuries and it's unknown at this hour. we have not received an update on the other driver. i want to show you adot video. this was a motorcyclist taken to the hospital early this morning after the motorcyclist was hit by a passing car. this happening on the i-10 westbound near 7th avenue. the driver of the car who caused this stop to wait on officers or to check on the motorcyclist. we're waiting to hear if they caught that driver and the condition of the motorcyclist. donald trump and arizona senator jeff flake continue to clash. >> at a private meeting in washington, d.c. they met face to face. and then it's getting ugly.

and we have placed calls with his office but have not heard back. i tweeted to flake saying if he had any response. breaking overnight, you may or may not be surprised by this. there's no deal. president obama meeting vladimir putin and the two are in talks attacks in syria. today by the way is the final day of the g-20 summit. a u.s. spy agency is apologizing for a tweet that took a jab at china. the tweet from the defense intelligence agency in the defendant of defense with the quote that said classy as always, china, referring to a fight over the treatment of reporters after president obama

and too clear for most of tomorrow. what happens is we start to get the moisture churned up to arizona from tropical storm newton. it's going to move into the area. and you start to see more of the moisture. more coming our way by thursday. i'll have a breakdown of how that's going to impact our forecast. and keeping a close eye on the desert drive times, especially in the east u.s. 60 just 14-minutes. all of the desert drive times are in the green. and if you're taking the 101 northbound to scottsdale from the 202 to shea boulevard 11 minutes and if you're at gilbert road making your way to i-10, you'll see light traffic. this is i-10 at loop 202. and maybe you're headed to tucson of the valley.

people on cape cod are bracing for the remnants of hurricane hermine. a lot of people packed the beaches for one last day. forecasters are predicting wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour. more than 2 inches of rain and coastal flooding as well. hermine will move out of the area tuesday night. and people on board holiday cruise ships definitely felt hermine's wrath. look at this. the rocky waters and winds, the cruise lines are taking extra precautions. one ship had to port in baltimore until the rough seas died down. new fallout over colin kaepernick's protests. he's not standing for the national anthem. last week when the quarterback was wearing socks that showed a pig with a police hat on,

forecast. and this is what we can expect for form. 100degrees. and we start to work in moisture tuesday night. and then wednesday more so. take a look. dipping down to 93 degrees. this is when we think tropical storm newton is coming into our neck of the woods and 91 on thursday. that looks like the best chance to get rain out of the 7-day forecast. friday, holding onto a 20% chance of showers, 97 degrees. and then i think newton will out of here. nice and clear and we have temperatures right at about 100. we've been delay free, crash free on this labor day morning. that's good news for those who have to head to work today. i-10 in the west valley. from the 1051 to the 17. and to the stack there. things are looking good. north valley drivers are seeing the same conditions. and this afternoon, things will

after the long holiday weekend. and sticking with the roads right now. it appears that there is good news when it comes to road safety this holiday weekend. so the governor's office of highway safety reports dui arrests are on pace to be down this labor day weekend over years past. they'll be on the roads today and tonight cracking down. and the final numbers won't be known until tomorrow. a phoenix neighborhood waking up to dozens of police officers. coming up. i have brand new information about a home invasion. and a pedestrian walking down the street is attacked.

brand new information about a home invasion. around 3 a.m. a homeowner woke up to a group of men breaking into his home. he grabbed the gun and started shooting at the suspect. officers were able to rescue the homeowner and the old daughter. reporting live in phoenix, katie conner, abc15 news. and i'm justin pazera near 27th avenue and camelback where police are working a shooting. and we're just getting new information. we confirmed that the victim is a 28-year-old man. and phoenix place say he got in an argument with folks in another vehicle. and that's when he was shot multiple times. he tried to get away and he crashed his car into an apartment.
