concerning the weather forecast over the next couple of days. this morning as you're getting ready to head out the door. all dry on desert doppler. and i'm talking across the valley and across the state. we're tracking changes as we keep an eye on hurricane newton making landfall over cabo over the baja peninsula. and that system is not going to move in as a hurricane but the remnants and bring big changes. we're talking clouds, rain chances, and cooler temperatures. and this morning as you're heading out, all is dry and we are nice and mild. and it's going to feel dry as the moisture is low. 83degrees is the current temperature. by this afternoon, a high of only 100 degrees and a chance of a late day storm, possibly some dust. i'll break down the hour-by- hour storm chances and we'll

biggest impact from newton in just a few minutes. an amber alert was issued early this morning but quickly resolved in cottonwood. we got the alert around midnight that authorities were searching for a 3-year-old girl and her noncustodial father. he was considered armed and dangerous. the suspect was taken into custody and the child was found safe. we are out how a 2-year-old girl is doing after being found in a backyard pool. she was found near 87th avenue and camelback. it's not clear how the 2-year- old ended up in the water. and the water becoming a dangerous place over the holiday weekend. search and rescue teams will resume their search for a missing glendale man who disappeared at lake pleasant.

people on a boat sunday. at one point they got out to swim in the firemen's cove area and when they got back to shore they realized he was missing. >> he was supposed to be here for a good time. and when something tragic happens on a holiday, you never want to hear something like that. >> reporter: he knows how to swim but jacket. sheriff's deputies are expecting a suspicious death in the desert near morano. we know the victim is a man whose body was badly decomposed. we're waiting on the results of iniops. and a mobile hope in tucson going up in flames. fire crews posted this video from a neighborhood on

safely thanks to a barking dog that alerted them to spoke and fire. firefighters want everyone to check their smoke detectors. >> so important. we've got an update on the breaking news you saw 24 hours ago. officers don't have any arrests after shots were fired and a car slammed into an apartment. a 28-year-old driver was killed after he was shot and near 27th avenue and camelback. >> the guy -- you could see it right here. and they went flying and didn't know where they were. he landed all the way over there in the middle of the living room. it was crazy. >> just look at all that damage. he was sitting on the couch listening to music and heard the gupses and the crash. and when he looks up the car was at his feet.

let's get out to nick stiletti. what's happening with all the flights? >> reporter: we've been checking all morning to see what's happening. and i found a number of delays and cancellations, especially to cabo san lucas. overnight i took action and i went to the website kayak.com. it's a popular website to find flights. half a dozen flights were for sale on that website. i checked further and saw that two american airlines flights to cabo were actually delayed. that's what it said online. and a few from alaska airlines -- they canceled the second leg of the flights. there's good news for travelers out there. both of those airlines will be waiving the change fee. folks can rebook for a later

get a refund for travel reservations and book during a different time when it's not hurricane season and things are calmer. coming up in the next hour, i'll be checking on other destinations in mexico. as you can imagine, the effects of the system will be felt throughout a lot of parts of mexico, iris. >> we're already seeing the impact as the hurricane moves inland. and eventually, we'll feel impacts here. it's not going to move in as a hurricane. but the remnants of newton and state. and we are now under the flash flood watch in the phoenix metro starting at 11:00 tonight and through the day on wednesday. the flash flood watch also issued for southeast arizona and that one goes into effect earlier. it goes into effect this evening as they see the rain in southeast arizona first. and it's all due to hurricane newton that has made landfall as a hurricane. and will end up moving in at

pressure. and we'll keep the storm chances out of the forecast through the early morning and early afternoon. late afternoon and evening we see a slight chance of storms today. for most of us a fairly quiet day before the better rain chances move in tomorrow. the freeways are nice and light this morning. but i want to give you a heads up. sounds like a pole down, grand avenue and 83rd avenue. you can use that intse trying to use that area of grand avenue. on i-10 at 59th avenue, very light, no issues here. we kid have a crash 59th at mcdowell. they just cleared it. and we'll give you a look at i- 17 in a couple of minutes. a bump in the runway for british runways as an i.t.

on planning to bike or run, temperatures in the 70s to low 80s. a very comfortable morning morning. the dew points are only in the upper 30s. 83 is your temperature. and by the way, the sunrise at 6:06. and once that sun comes up. you'll see mostly clear skies. the call before the storm before we see more monsoon moisture and the storm chances going up. by tomorrow, we have plenty of that moisture and it's all due to what is currently hurricane newton. right now producing winds sustained at 90 miles per hour. it's made landfall near cabo. the wind gusts upwards of 100 miles per hour. and it's 712 miles south of the phoenix metro so well away from

landfall in western mexico. and quickly gains strength over the sierra madre mountains. we're talking an area of low pressure. the remnants of what is currently hurricane newton. so we're not going to see a tropical storm move in but rather the remnants and a boost in the moisture. and all of that combined is going to give us the higher storm chances over the next 24 to 48 hours. so starting this morning, all clear in the and across the state. by this afternoon, we'll watch the storms developing across southeast arizona. and then as we go into tonight, the storms down to the southeast become more widespread. and even though future cast is not picking up on the rain in the valley. i think there's a good chance we'll see more showers in the phoenix metro. and then a chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms through the day in the valley tomorrow. the best potential overall

looks to be in southeast arizona. but keep in mind if there's any slight shift to the east of the west. that could drastically change the forecast. you have to stay tuned over the next couple of days. keep the mobile app handy and we'll be tracking it all along the way. the best storm chances for now in southeast arizona and that's where the biggest concern is for the flash flooding. we could see the flash flooding in the valley too. and we'll be under a watch starting tonight. as you storm chances, there's a chance for dust as storms get going to the southeast. but overnight tonight and tomorrow the rain chances for the valley start to climb. today a 20% chance of storms. by this evening into tonight. a high of only 100 degrees. and with the increase in moisture and the increasing storm chances, the high up to 90 degrees. low 90s into thursday. i'll break down the hour-by-

just a few minutes. we're crash free and delay free for the tuesday morning drive and that includes the east valley. maybe you're headed in on u.s. 60 westbound from country club until i-10. about eight-minutes there. and on the 10, things are looking good as well. on i-17 right at northern avenue you can see the northbound is on the right-hand side. southbound is picking up just a tad. for the most part the entire stretch of i-17 should be problem free. in california, the drought could have a major impact the next time you head to the grocery store. you might have trouble finding pistachios. the output will drop and cause a global shortage. the entire crop is 529,000 tons. why not head to the movies
