investigators are beg o questioning the -- are questioning the suspect who was found hiding in the bushes here. he was pulled over and had just handed over his medical marijuana card when the trooper heard a trigger pull on a dry chamber. the suspect took off from there and was caught. he was slapped in handcuffs and put in the back of this black suv as nearby for the gun. dps says he may have ditched it in the area where he was caught. back out here live, dps cleared the scene about 45 minutes ago. the name of the suspect has not yet been released. >> thank you. what a difference a year makes. this time last year, adot started tearing down homes in ahwatukee to make room for the freeway. >> fast forward to today,

for that megaconstruction project that will be the extension of the 202. justin pazera live with more. reporter: it's hard to believe that where i'm standing right now is going to be a massive freeway. construction expected to get under way this morning. you know, to get to this point, there's been lot of back and neighborhoods were demolished to make room. one of those lawsuits was filed by the gila river indian community and residentings. they've been trying to stop this freeway. a judge ruled that this expansion could happen but a local group says they're going to appeal that decision. they're calling it an unbelievable travesty of law. again, that expansion expected to start today.

ahmad khan rahami. in new jersey, five suspicious devices were found outside of a train station. in minnesota, isis is now claiming responsibility for an attack, a stabbing attack inside a mall. we're going have much more on all three stories at 6:30 because things are developing as we all very activity investigations. >> all right, chris thank you. a little closer to home, parentses in tempe, you may notice extra police officers around corona del sol high school today. that's because of a school threat made last week implying that something would happen today. the district did send a letter home on friday. tempe police did not find evidence backing up the threat but they will be on campus just in case.

the discovery center will rally outside of the city council chambers. a group called no dbc says they want the land preserved and they don't want to see a museum style building go up, but sporrers -- supporters say it is early in the progress. city council will meet to change in drone rules. the rules would not apply to first responders but if passed, violaters could be fined up to $300. moments before impact, this morning, we are hearing from more witnesses who saw a plane just before it crashed into a home. >> we are seeing delays on the 10 in the west valley but in the east valley, nice conditions along i-10. >> at 4:30, i told you about

the job fair. phoenix sky harbor is hiring dozens of people to work at various businesses inside the airport, abm company needs a few different types of jobs and chipotle plans to hire 5,000 employees nationwide. stop by a location the 28th. you know what sounds a jog because conditions outside just absolutely beautiful. a lot of us in the low to mid 70s. i think by 7:00 we'll warm up to 77. 82 by 9:00. 102 by 4:00 so it will be hot today. could see a pop up shower later today and i'll tell you why, it's because of hurricane paine. you can see it's still about 900 miles south of us here in phoenix.

75 with gusts up to 92 miles per hour. over the next few hours, the national hurricane center is predicting it will break up and weaken a little bit back down to a tropical storm. later today, it will continue to weaken and fall apart as it moves north and closer and closer to arizona. it is going to bring us some rain. we'll tap into some of that moisture. i'll detail how it will impact the seven-day forecast next. >> your dert seven minutes on the 10. no delays as you're traveling westbound to u.s. 60. no crashes to deal with out there. in the east valley, that crash we had on the 202 is all cleared up. that was near brown road and you're not seeing extra slowing because of it. the only delays are on i-10 in the west valley. nothing out of the ordinary. this is near 59th avenue here. it's not looking bad. you can see in the distance,

a new page of controversy for sheriff paul babeu. sources tell us the fbi has subpoenaed records related to how babeu's office used seized criminal money also known as rico funds. critics have said pcso's use of the foundation is like money laundering. to fuel his campaign. it may already be illegal campaigning with government resources. or if they're just being used to make the sheriff look good, as he runs for congress.

gilbert to give us the latest on that crash. i'm allison rodriguez live in guadalupe where mcso is investigating a fatal shooting that took place over the weekend. we still have lights flashing, a lot of crime scene tape up now but the information that's coming in is very limited. all we know is that one person is dead. they are investigating this as the scene here has been blocked off. just this side street and a little bit of the alley is blocked off so if you travel through this area, i don't think you'll have any problems. it was a deadly shooting but there's not much more information coming out now.

about the victim or circumstances so as soon as we get more, we'll make sure to pass that along. >> allison, thank you. from that shooting, less go to another one. this is near 40th street and thomas. you see the crime scene tape going up and you'll see a victim being loaded into an ambulance. phoenix police officers telling abc 15 news that somebody knocked on the door of this victim's house, he then opened up the door and a struggle ensued and the man was shot. the man's injuries are serious but not life threatening. the suspect is still on the run. on top of dealing with the deadliest month in the last 20 years in august when it comes to the murder rate, the chicago police department beefing up cameras and tasers. the police superintendent announcing the plan to roll this out.

have the cameras and an additional 5,000 should have them by the end of 2018. a travel nightmare for drivers across the south. five states are facing a threat of a low fuel supply because of a pipeline supply. these drivers are waiting hours to fill up in places like georgia, tennessee, north and south carolina. a quarter of a mill gallons have leaked. there's a new fear for drivers, that fear of course that gas could go up. new developments on north carolina so-called bathroom bill. the governor has withdrawn his lawsuit. that lawsuit was filed in may in response to the justice department suing the state over the measure. now the federal lawsuit will to continue will determine whether or not the state is in the right or in the wrong. check out this video coming into the news room. that's an apartment building here

is going to be a scorcher. 78 degrees is the overnight low. we'll see winds pick up as hurricane paine moves closer to us. down to 91 degrees tomorrow, 40% chance of showers. look at this, thursday, 96 degrees. after that, we see clearing with temperatures in the low to mid 90s. some places i don't think will make it out of the 80s. . >> u.s. 93 southbound could be blocked off because of a crash. i'll get more details on that we are seeing slowing in the north part of the valley. we're up to a ten minute drive time here. as you're traveling eastbound on the 101, that slow spot is around the seventh avenue area.

there. north of wickenburg, it looks like 93 southbound is closed due to a crash with a semi. they're silt setting up a -- setting up a detour for you. so much to get to from the live desk. a story we have been reporting on too much. as early this morning, it appears another member of law enforcement was targeted while on duty. katie conner is live from on a terrifying night for this trooper. reporter: chris, you can hear how scared this trooper, when he's talking to dispatch, you can hear him yelling that he believes a guy shot at him. we are live at this apartment complex where this chase ended. it started early on the freeway.

early this morning, the trooper pulled over a black fiat. the trooper noticed pot in the back of the car but the driver showed him his medical marijuana card. then the trooper remembers turning around and hearing this. >> the trooper heard, did not see a gun, gut heard what he thought was a chamber pull on a dry chamber and then vehicle took off. reporter: t brave enough to try to follow that suspect. that took us here to indian school and granite reef where police found the suspect hiding in a bush here. he has been taken into custody but his name has not been released. >> thank you katy. now to this story, look at your screen here. the ntsb will be back out at this gilbert home. they're trying to figure out

candidates starting at 7:00. now to a third attack. this is the one that isis is claiming responsibility for. this is a stabbing attack at a minnesota mall. at least eight people were injured in this and the suspect was shot and killed by police. listen to this, police say the suspect in this was wearing a private security uniform and went into the mall, then made made a reference to allah and started the attack. at least three pe >> chris, we are following news out of tempe. we have new information about a string of vehicle fires centered around 48th street and southern. we're told that four trucks were torched as well as a couple of dumpsters in that area. investigators say those fires are suspicious. the state on notice to answer a civil lawsuit filed in the freeway shootings case. >> that is because yesterday

year since merritt, jr.'s arrest. his lawyer is taking swings at the state in a civil suit. they put the state on notice for $10 million in damage and now not naming a price but instead a price decided by a jury. his lawyers say his life is not close to what it was before the arrest. >> people still confront him in the street. he told me just last week, a man wanted to fight him while leslie was out with reporter: dps telling us they do not comment on pending litigation. the state has just about two weeks to answer the suit. phoenix police right now investigating a home invasion near 19th avenue and dunlap. we brought it to you as breaking news. several suspects barged into an apartment and they got away. it's not clear what exactly they got away with. we know they left the scene. no word on their description. >> it is back to school for governor doug ducey.

school tour this week with a visit to three arizona schools. he'll be heading to mesa academy for the arts and wrap it up in tucson on wednesday. it has been a long road to get to this point. construction on the 202 expansion begins today. justin pazera is live along pecos road with more. reporter: you were talking about long road. talking about this project for 30 something years. today, this is it. you see the truck going by now, a few of those trucks, that's going to be nothing compared to when this is done. what you're going to notice today is over here at the i-10/202 interchange. that's where you're going see activity. they're going do be putting up those concrete barricades.

houses, they started coming down along pecos road almost a year ago. for those who live in the ahwatukee foothills and rely on pecos, construction will happen in two stages. local traffic will shift to the eastbound lanes wild they build the westbound lane of the freeway. that is expected to take two years. adot has been surveying all of these trees and bushes. they say that they're going to look at those, they're going to put nursery and when 24 project -- this project is done, they'll but them back. . the 10 is slowing down where where you are now from the loop 202, it eases up when i know get to elliott or so.

citizen. investigators are searching his home in elizabeth, new jersey. moments ago, our friends at abc news tweeting this out because rahami is believe today be seen own surveillance video at two different locations. authorities say a cellphone left at one scene links him to the locations and links him to this. as soon as we have more information, we'll let you know. at home, parts of an east valley neighborhood blocked off because of a deadly shooting. allison rodriguez is life on the scene of this one. reporter: good morning, chris. that's right, deputies still out here right now. we have a bit of a murder mystery on our hands. mcso not giving a lot of information on what went on. we have this road blocked off but

so the good news this morning is if you are headed in this area or you drive through this area normally, you won't get any road closures. but this street specifically is going be blocked off for a few hours. mcso says they are investigating a homicide, a deadly shooting that happened over the weekend at one of these homes. they aren't saying much about the suspects or victims or what happened here. we do have calls placed in to mcso and we're hoping to get more information as the morning progresses. we know deputies are going to be out here for a while as they continue this deadly investigation at this home in guadalupe. >> thank you. forget the flashing lights and handcuffs because starting today, peoria police will let you take care of misdemeanor warrants without going to jail.
