got back in. >> rahami is a naturalized united states citizen born in afghanistan. his last known address was in elizabeth, new jersey. and breaking news in the valley. an investigation is underway because it appears that a dps trooper was targeted in a traffic stop. katie conner has been following this story all morning. >> reporter: a terrifying night for the dps trooper after he pulled over a 101 near indian school for driving and he noticed he was swerving and that there was marijuana in the back seat. and then this, you can hear the panic in the trooper's voice, able to act quickly and follow the suspect in the black fiat. the suspect ditched his car at indian school, and troopers

nearby. he was put in handcuffs and hauled off for questioning. investigators have not located the gun and fortunately, the trooper was not hurt. katie conner, abc15 news. sheriffs deputies are still investigating a shooting in guadalupe. we are expecting an update at any moment. and new information on an eay 40th and thomas. our crews, they were there as the victim was loaded into the ambulance. someone knocked on the door asking for the man and shot him after a brief struggle. he is expected to pull through and the suspect is still on the run. the risk for wildfires is still here. crews are keeping a close eye on three smile fires in lakeside, and firefighters have

more on the track coming up. thank you, nick, and more breaking news of an elderly and her son escaping a fire from their home. firefighters arrived to find their home engulfed in flames and they were able to get it under control before it spread. we are told that the woman was taken to the hospital for mild sme inhalation. parents feeling uneasy this morning as they send their kids off to high rumors swirled around the threats to the school set to take place today. but the district and school are calling the threats not credible and that the rumors stem from a fight last week. police investigated but found no evidence backing up the threats but extra officers will be on campus just in case. police in glendale need your help to track down the purpose of a deadly shooting.

house party, robert granado, 31 years old. officers said they responded to the call of gunshots and when they got to the scene, granado was dead at the scene. developing out of tempe right now, new information about a string of vehicle fires centered around 48th and southern. we are told four trucks were torched and a couple of dumpsters in the area. investigatorssay that the fires are suspicious. and teams with the ntsb are back at a gilbert home trying to figure out what caused a plane to crash in the home. the home is a total loss but thankfully, no major injuries reported. the pilot was taken to the hospital with burns to his forearm. sky divers bailed in that

up his school fewer this week. he will head to the mesa academy for the arts and then to avondale's michael anderson school tomorrow and wrap up in tucson on wednesday. right now, the man accused of plotting to bomb government buildings is facing a judge. this is new video from the courtroom. prosecutors presented evidence which could be used in court, things like they calling on two fbi agents to testify and crime scene photos and jail evidence such as recordings. the statute of limitationings to file is set to expire in the freeway shootings case. yesterday marks one year since leslie merritt's arrest. his lawyer is taking a swing at the state and prosecutors,

happenings right now prisoners across the country including right here in arizona they could go on strike, so multiple people pointed out it's an online movement. we reached out to the department of corrections but we have not heard back about the claims. the group against plans for the desert outside the sonoran reserve will rally outside today as a work study meeting takes place. a group says that they want the land preserved and don't want to see a museum-style building go up. supporterssay it's so early in the process that the plans are still being worked out. a freeway project 3 decades in the making, the loop 202 extension is about to break

all new at 11:00, deputies just identifying the glider pilot who took a plunge south of maricopa. pinal county sheriffs is saying that ron keinan is recovering from injuries after the crash on friday. the 45-year-old is from

still trying to figure out what caused the non-motorized glider to go down. a driver is on the run after busting a huge hole into a wall. it happened at an apartment complex at 15th avenue and peoria. nobody was hurt and the suv is still there. it's believed that the building is vacant. a little boy is safe and sound this morning but his parents are holding him a little tighter. the toddler pulled from the canal after jumping into it at 23rd easer and indian school yesterday. we are told as soon as people saw it happen, they did not hesitate, jumping into the water to get the boy out. crews took him to the hospital to make sure he is okay but it sounds like he will be just fine. adot is officially contracting construction today on the south mountain freeway but two groups want to put the break on the expansion. entire neighborhoods had to be demolished to make way for the stretch of freeway.

after a scary welcome -- weekend on the east coast, a bit of relief. the man wanted in connection to the explosions in new york and new jersey is in police custody. >> ahmad rahami, police say, is the main guy but plan to look into whether any others had a role. >> reporter: 28-year-old ahmad rahami, a suspect wanted for questioning and bombings new york and new jersey, now in custody after a shootout with police in new jersey. >> one of the officers was actually sitting in his police vehicle when he was shot at. i'm told that a round went through the windshield and glanced off his forehead.

the rahami home in new jersey, the same city where yet another explosion took place overnight. the bomb squad tried to defuse one of five devices found in a backpack while it exploded, this near the verrazano bridge on sunday night where fbi agents stopped five men and detained them. the explosion in manhattan, the chaos on a balmy saturday night with law enforcement rapidly and piecing together the investigation. >> the evidence is taken to the lab at quantico for review and we are working jointly with the nypd. >> reporter: investigators are looking at the dumpster here, twisted and mangled from the explosion. investigatorssay they were able

phone to an undetonated pressure cooker found a few blocks away from the explosion. police are trying to determine if rahami accounted alone or was part of a network of terror. we now know that the alleged attacker in minnesota was a security guard at the mall where he attacked nine people. they are all expected to recover but he wore a security guard unifm attack, made a reference to allah and asked the victim if he was a muslim. he was shot and killed by an off-duty police officer. this morning, hillary clinton told reporters she is the only candidate who was part of the hard decisions to take terrorists off the battlefield and that the attacks are a serious challenge that the country can meet in concert with our values. that's a dig at trump who has

well in the 90s between noon and 1:00 and dinner time, dipping into the upper 90s. today's high, 104, and it will be a scorcher as i mentioned. let's talk about current temperatures across the state. 90 in sedona, and looks like 91 in casa grande and 80s in southeastern arizona and still triple digits in the colorado river valley. let's take a look at the clouds and radar. and this is the view from above. not seeing much of anything, except we cover and maybe thin bands of moisture pushing northward across the international border there. that's moisture turning up from hurricane paine we saw. it's still 800 miles away but tell facilitate the moisture and nudge it, push it in our direction. today, i can't rule out a stray light shower as the storm gets closer to us. the rain chances will be better

we'll knock it up to a 40% chance for tuesday and 20% for wednesday, and the rest of the week, dry, nice. the air quality, not bad, moderate, and pollen is moderate and rag weed and sagebrush, watch out for that. the uv index in the high range and burn time under 15 minutes. paradise valley gets to 103 today and 104 in ahwatukee and chandler. and in the west valley, about the same, some spots cooler as we check in with surprise, 102 there. 103 at luke air force base and 104 in goodyear. here is the most accurate 7-day forecast. tomorrow, 91 is the high, and some places won't make it out of the 80s. the nice thing about this storm system it will keep the temperatures nice and low. it could be sticky, so keep that in mind.
