office at maricopa high >> we were wondering why is he going so slow today and it was weird. >> reporter: he was riding the bus to maricopa high school when something didn't seem right, then the bus driver told them that was happening. >> i i had a feeling something was up, and he said there's something wrong at the school. >> reporter: the high school administration just founded a fax threatening an explosive and possibly teachers held for rans lock down, the buses were rerouted to the middle school, and parents were already hearing from students via texts and other parents on facebook. >> when you have the high school confirm instead of the son saying we're not going there for a second, that makes you go okay, is every else okay. >> with everything going on in the world today it was really scary. >> it was an extremely long

shaken up about this, and understandably so. >> reporter: yes, stephanie, school got out about an hour ago, and a number of students going home with a letter in hand to parents explaining the situation. it went down at cactus middle school this morning. a 7th grade boy rode the would you say to school with a -- school with a hand gun in his backpack. another student saw the gun at school and told the staff, and that's when the gun unloaded, but there were also bullets in the bag. >> i'm very just scared because anything can happen. you know, i didn't even get a phone call. you know i thought the school would probably call or e-mail or something, so this is news to me >> reporter: police say the boy did not have bad intentions, he simply wanted to show his friends, but they are recommending juvenile charges for him. >> big kudos to the student that spoke up about it.

desk, another investigation about a student with a school. this is at north canyon high school in phoenix today. so far we know the student on campus had a hand gun. the student's in custody. thankfully nobody was hurt. police say it appears the student again had no intentions to harm anyone, but they say they are still investigating. well, a rainy morning for many across the valley. arizona feeling the pain as moisture from the former hurricane brings showers, cooler air and gusty winds, and right there's a few light showers to track three phoenix and cave creek. the batch moving through phoenix is headed up across sunny slope, and crossing the 51 shortly. light to moderate rain with that, and majority of the rest of the showers continue to remain in the higher terrain up to the north. the rain still in the forecast up there for the next several hours, and just a slight chance at 10 percent for showers here in the valley.

throughout the day, but not anything measurable throughout the day. we'll keep the chances other 6 showers throughout the day tomorrow and possibly even thursday, so we'll take you day by day coming up in minutes. happening now a growing protest in tulsa, oklahoma, it's in response to the tulsa police department just releasing the footage of the officer shooting someone. the officer shot and killed terrance crutcher friday. him with his hands up. officer betty sheen by is the officer -- betty shelby is the officer that shot, and she's been placed on administrative leave. the parents of the pilot whose plane crashed into a gilbert home spoke to the press today, and raquel cervantes is live this afternoon where it all happened. >> oh my god!

they say time stood still. their son's 10 years of piloting skills put to the test. >> thanks to his action quick action everyone survived. ryan performed his job well. >> reporter: he kept flying as long as he could getting burned as the four sky drivers parachuted to safety. ryan kilgore had no choice the bail, the plane crashing into a home where two people escaped just in time. >> we're very sorry for the family who lost their beautiful home, and we're very happy no lives were lost. >> reporter: a man rushed to help ryan in a field. >> with the heroic act of a brave pilot who was more concerned for others than himself during a crisis, we are honored to call this pilot our son.

to be here with their son saying they appreciate the look, we have a link to their go fund me page. raquel cervantes, abc 15 news. just into the live desk, federal officials have now charged him in the new york and new jersey bombings and tonight the fbi is saying 2014 is when they first had the man on their radar. two years ago his father told the fbi his son was interacting with quote bad people overseas. and a his associates may have been trying to get their hands on explosives. that information tonight coming from the fbi, but still no word on a motive or the if there was any help in the weekend explosives. his -- explosions. his first court date is next week. a murder suspect off the streets tonight after a deadly shooting this weekend in guadalupe. the man is in jail facing first- degree murder charges. we looked through the court documents that show he shot his

what he was saying about his girlfriend. right now we're trying to get more information about the man who died. damaging property, of course never smart, but if it belongs to police it's a really bad idea. this is john ivy, and he's accused of damaging the property yard at the surprise police department. cops say he destroyed the phone in the call box, kicked the gate and busted the surveillance camera. and a lot of demotion on 10 this morning in buckeye after a trailer rolled over. it all happened on the eastbound side. you can see all the activity in the middle part of freeway there courtesy of air 15. troopers reporting minor injuries in this one. >. and an inferno on a south phoenix street. car up in flames in an industrial area near 40th and university. nobody got burned in this, but the driver is nowhere to be found. crews eventually put out the fire, but it's unclear what

well, it's something that can happen in an instant. an outdoor grill bla this fire at a townhouse in glendale last friday. right now we're being told that this grill was too close to a couch which ended up catching fire, and then the flames spread to the home. one person was treated for smoke inhalation. update to breaking news we brought you last night from the live desk, an accused shooter identified in the double shooting in a parking garage at the airport in vegas. jeffery brown facing several charges tonight, including attempted murder. police say he shot two people

just updated this seconds ago. some of the wettest spots got an inch and a quarter, but for phoenix pretty much nothing. a lot of drops. we were counting drops, not inches. we got a trace at the airport, so nothing really going down in the books for today. we're well over an inch and a half below average for this time of year, and below average for the monsoon as well. today 89 was the high, pathly exactly what i had in the forecast, about 10 degrees below average, and have a few showers making their way across the valley now, but they're very light, and not going to bring much accumulation into the rain fall buckets. the wetter spots are up to the north and northwest lout the day. the -- throughout the day. the showers continuing to push to the east, so showers almost continue along the i-40 corridor in flagstaff, and they'll continue to taper off in the overnight hours. the white mountains, there's some shower activity out there

hour, and we'll keep a close eye on any new development. shower chances here in the valley about 10 percent. much of the action happening to the north. you can see we're starting to see a few new showers developing to the south, and there's still a chance it could work its way up over the next couple of hours, and we still have a lot of moisture in place as remnants of what was hurricane paine has become a tropical depression, it continues to push the moisture in into tomorrow. so chances continue at about 20 percent for a few more showers and thunderstorms in the heat of the day tomorrow. look at futurecast into the afternoon hours, and you can see the spotty showers in play into thursday, we continue the chances as well as we deal with the next low pressure system moving in from the northwest. right now cloudy skies across the valley, a few sprinkles

a lot of the moisture still in place to work with. 87 right now. winds breezy at 17 miles per hour, but even stronger up in deer valley at 22, so we'll keep the breezes going over the next several hours. winds tape ore off overnight. the rest of the phoenix metro cities here in the 80s at this hour, and farther to the north temperatures in the 60s in prescott and payson, and sedona and flagstaff seeing the rain- cooled area down to the 50s. not a big temperature drop in the overnight hours. a lot of these spots that have been in the 30s the last several nights will be in the 50s tonight as the cloud cover sits over the sit and blankets us -- state and blankets us. 70s tomorrow in sedona and payson, 85 in globe, 95 here in

degrees below the average. 94 in scottsdale and tempe. 92 in fountain hills, upper 80s still for carefree and cave creek, but again the rest of us in the 90s for tomorrow afternoon. and 90s will start around lunchtime. nice morning in the 70s through 6:00 and 7 tim, 80 by 8:00. very humid day tomorrow, and again a chance for a few spotty showers and thunderstorms persist. windy up north as the next pacific storm system moves in from the northwest cranking up th some cooler air on friday, but also bringing in drier air, so it will shove all this moisture out to the east in time for the weekend. so few more breezes in place sunday and morning, and temperatures staying belocale average in the 90s for the preponderance start of next week -- for the start of next week too. and fay fredricks is here, and the suns players and volunteers were all out there today helping the community.

off, and saying their kids need aid break. >> sonu wasu is live, and how much of a break are the kids getting now? >> reporter: 20 minutes in a six-hour school day effecting grades three to six. these parents feel their kids need more time out here on the playground. it's not enough. i just stepped out of meeting that's in full swing right now. dozensover people in the library, and -- dozens of people in the library, both sides bringing a strong argument. those fighting for longer recesses feel for their students, but those on the other side feel that more time in the class room is what the kids need. the principal towing the fine line, not voicing her opinion. i just talked to her, and she said today is all about listening. the district is open to change if that's what the majority of the parents want. i'll have an update and you'll hear from the passionate parents coming up in the live report tonight at 6:00. >> a lot of people say recess

chance of showers and even a few thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon and early evening. back up to 95 tomorrow. cooler air coming in thursday and friday, and we have drier air coming in along with our cool down, so we'll dry out just in time for the weekend. look for a high of 88 on friday, and at that point lows back into the 60s. it's going to feel great for our weekend with that cool start and temperatures in the afternoon running several degrees below average. 91 sunday, 92 monday, and th breezes back by sunday and monday. >> there's a 600-pound gorilla in the room.

a new page of controversy for sheriff paul babeu. sources tell us the fbi has subpoenaed records related to how babeu's office used seized criminal money also known as rico funds. is like money laundering. and they've also accused babeu of using the funds to fuel his campaign. it may already be illegal campaigning with government resources. or if they're just being used to make the sheriff look good, as he runs for congress.
