this is abc15, taking action. >> reporter: i'm justin pazera live in phoenix. phoenix police -- they are called to a dispute at an apartment complex. police are just getting on scene. the dramatic ending coming up. and riots break out after a deadly police shooting, and dozens of officers have been injured in this one. we'll be going live there. this is scary stuff. 4:30 on this wednesday and a lot to get to. >> i saw some water on the roadways, and also the lightning, iris. >> yeah, we had quite a show yesterday. did you catch it last night? here's the new video storms move through mesa.

may have struck a transformer. you see that blue flash of light in the distance. and there are 40 customers without power in the east valley or who lost power in the east valley. incredible images there. and when you catch great video of our weather, send it our way. share it at abc15. as long as it's safe. a mix of clouds and clear and there's a chance of a few showers as you head out the door. all dry in the valley. i've been watching showers to the southwest. and they are not holding together very well. there's a chance we could see a few showers move across the phoenix metro through the 6:00 hour. the slight chance is there. it's going to be mild and humid when you step outside with a mix of clouds and sun once the sun coming up.

and also muggy. i'll talk about the changes we'll feel in the next few minutes. at 4:32. breaking overnight, a high speed phoenix police -- police chase in phoenix after officers spotted a stolen car. the car took off near 27th avenue and indian school. the helicopter found it on 27th avenue and pulling onto 10. the vehicle exited at 43rd avenue and the car started to spark and smoke. the suspect bailed out -- three of them total. two were caught immediately. and the driver took off running and a k-9 tracked down the suspect and bit him on the arm. there was a large scene there. one man is in the hospital now. that guy so fortunate he was

ambulance. that guy was being treated by the fire department. and you can see the blood on his tank top. this guy was able to sit himself down on the gurney. obviously, he's expected to be okay. and minutes later, one guy was taken into police custody. we're not sure if this guy is involved with all of this or if he was involved. escalated into this. you can see a few phoenix police officers behind the crime scene tape at the apartment complex. as soon as we get an update on this story, we'll pass it along to you. >> thanks for the live update. chaos in north carolina as protesters take over the streets there, causing a lot of damage. they had to use tear gas to break up the crowds. twelve police officers were

here. the protests broke out after 43- year-old keith scott was shot and killed at an apartment complex. officers were searching for a different suspect and scott got out of his vehicle with a gun and the officers felt threatened. detectives on the scene did find a gun there. also noteworthy. the officer involved the african-american and the victim is african-american. the classroom is a place for kids to feel safe. unfortunately, some are turning into dangerous environments. students packing more than books and a lunch. raquel cervantes is live at maricopa high school. and the past 24 hours have been tough for parents. >> reporter: it's been a scary time for parents and students alike. students started the day here with classes canceled after a threat was made. parents rushing to get to

see an increased security presence at maricopa high school. the threat was faxed in. and authorities took it seriously. the threat making mention of bombs and hostages and ransom. classes were canceled and students were rerouted to a nearby middle school for parents to pick them up. nothing was found. that's important to know. and police think the threat was a hoax. why would you do that? do you want to hurt kids? does that make your happy? >> reporter: detectives are working to trace where the threat came from. coming up at 5:00. there were other threats around the valley with students bringing guns to school. 4:35 now. two crime alerts to tell you about.

scottsdale. officers telling us someone came in to a jewelry store and smashed the display cases and took off with jewelry. we do not have a suspect description and we'll let you know when we do. officers are looking for a suspect who broke into the residence inn. officers say a man attempted to rob the place, left empty handed and no one was hurt. and the suspect now -- pay male, 5'8", early 20s. if you know who this person is please help police out. a horrific crime out of detroit. wxyz telling us four children were killed in a home and the suspect shot a woman who is in critical condition. officers were called to this scene around 1:20 this morning. the suspect called and said he killed his children.

two teenagers were found shot. two younger children found dead in a vehicle with the exhaust pipe manipulated. the detectives on the scene say the man is the father of the teens and the stepfather of the younger children. this is a domestic violence attack. it is sickening, i hate to pass it along, but some of the developing stories we must discuss here. >> horrifying details. the dea targeting doctors running so called pill mills. investigators are using this east valley doctor to set an example. he's facing 42 counts accused of handing out the prescriptions like candy. that will only make it easier for people to become heroin addicts. >> one bad doctor can write a couple of hundred prescriptions

community. >> as of now, the doctor is still practicing. the state medical board is reviewing his case. and they'll decide whether or not to suspend his license. it is still so shocking to believe, that plane that came crashing into that gilbert home after the pilot jumped out. ryan kilgore flew in from washington to be by his side at maricopa medical center. he's being treated in the burn unit. he flew as long as he could until the four sky divers parachuted to safety and he had no choice but to do the same. a teen accused of murder is mentally competent to stand trial. aaron ott is accused of killing a glendale teenager over the

arizona and across the northeast pocket of the state. the moisture is going to linger. you'll feel it when you step outside. it's going to be humid. that will keep rain chances in play through the day. by this afternoon a slight chance of shower experience a few thunderstorms. 95degrees will be the high so below average and muggy. we'll talk about the hour-by- hour storm chance next. the freeways are nice and light for the drive. this is 11 minutes westbound on the 202 starting at the 101 until you hit the ministack and hopping on the 10 there. i want to give you a look at i- 10 in the west valley. this is at 35th avenue. and you're seeing a couple more cars in the westbound direction. no issues on the 10. but there's roadwork tonight to look out for.

>> amazing nobody got hurt. >> fire crews battling the canyon fire at vandenberg air force base. they've reached 45% containment since the fire started over the weekend. at some point, crews may need to bring in a higher level team and more resources. >> when they start doing that. the resources come from anywhere up and down the state. and when they get depleted. they'll go as far bring in resources. >> and this helps limit the time that crews have to be out there. battling the flames. overnight, a military mission -- a pair of bombers right over south korea. again, a show of force following north korea's nuclear test. i believe we have the video from last week's show of force.

if you're getting ready to drive to work, nothing but dry roads. and there's a slight chance of showers through the early morning. on satellite, clouds, and radar, we have clear skies across the phoenix metro. partly cloudy and broken clouds across the phoenix metro with a chance of showers through this morning and a chance of storms later. right now though, the rain is sitting off to the southwest. we've seen lig gila bend and some near yuma and more light right in the ground canyon. and a lot of cloud cover is still left. that moisture surged in thanks to what was hurricane paine. >> with the dew points in the

moisture in the atmosphere for storm chances and it also means it's going to feel humid to muggy through the day. today i think we have a 20% slight chance of a few showers through 7 a.m. showers that could impact the morning commute. the chances drop to 10%. we could see pop-up thunderstorms into this afternoon and early evening. so it's something we'll be watching and it doesn't look to be a terribly acti any of the storms could produce pockets of heavier rainfall as we head into the afternoon. the moisture combined with the daytime heating is giving us the scattered storm chances around the state today. by tomorrow, we track something else, a storm system that moves in from the pacific northwest. and it sends a cold front through the day on thursday. we'll see a line of showers and thunderstorms rolling across the state through the day tomorrow. and including in the valley.

and drier air will settle in. by friday it will feel much better. we have a couple of storm days before the cooler air settling in. slight chance of storms this afternoon. and tomorrow we watch the storms develop out to the northwest. and the line of storms sweeps across the state. and through midday, a slight chance of storms in the valley. and overnight we start to clear out in the phoenix metro. friday a slight chance of st and the valley looking drier and cooler by friday. today a 20% chance for showers, and 10% for the rest of the day. and tomorrow a 30% chance for showers and thunderstorms, especially midday into the afternoon. and it will be breezy in the valley. and windy across the state. still in the 90s for tomorrow. and cooler as we head into friday and this weekend. we'll talk more about how
