hour by hour planner in a few minutes. mallory? let's give you a look at the roads. you can see from the traffic map, all green out there, and we did have earlier crashes that has closed down or they were restricting lanes in the freeway, but everything is back open. no traffic issues for you out there. a 16-minute desert drive time southbound from the 101 to the i-10 stack. but a heads up. i am hearing that the exit at seventh avenue is closed. that could be overnight work there. maybe use the 7 street exit instead to save yourself time there. and a closer look at the north valley in a couple of minutes. mallory, we, for the first time, are hearing from the man who thought it was a good idea to hit former suns star and sacramento mayor kevin johnson in the face with a pie. you can see the picture, and he

at an intersection in tempe. he is supposed to watch over of the inmates but this morning, a valley detention officer is in jail, accused of having sex with an inmate at the estrella jail. row ramey admit its does happen. some of the most popular hotels in the valley have been sold and have a new owner. about 20 they are part of the starwood resorts merger with marriott. so what does that mean for you? if you are one of those reward customers, you will be able to transfer the points over to the marriott rewards system. as for the employees, i talked with marriott's president this morning and he said about 90% of the employees will not be impacted. they really need to keep the level of service the same. but this is affecting some of

after days of heavy rain, people in parts of north of east i way are preparing for the worst, the cresting of the shell rock river. the floodwaters are waist deep and dozens of homes have been damaged. this is a rough reality to deal with this morning, iris, and we saw rain and flooding even. yeah, and we are tracking changes. this morning, down to 73 breeze and the dew point, i've seen it drop by 20 degrees in the last so that's a great indication that the drier air is pushing in. and you can see they are dropping all across the western half of our state. so what that means is even though it's still a little humid this morning, it will feel much more humid and we'll get the dry heat once we get in the afternoon, and we're also getting cooler air. if you look at temperatures over the next 24 hour, check this out. starting in the 70s right now and gradually warm through the

80 80 -- mid-80s this afternoon, a gorgeous day on tap. a quick cool down overnight and tomorrow morning, start making plans if you can. we'll cool down, low 50s into the 60s to kickoff saturday morning, and it will be warmer tomorrow, up to 90 but still below average. it will be a great start to the weekend. i'll tell when you the rain chances coming back in the 7- no crashes or issues on the freeways that you have to worry about, and that includes north valley drivers on the 101 shortly, eastbound from 75th to i-17, a 6-minute desert drive time, and maybe starting on the 101 in the west valley, all green, connecting with the 10.

largest for-profit college a creditor. this is the same agency that oversaw itt tech and corinthian college. the agency is accused of lax oversight of the schools and the agency will appeal but my goodness. a lot of education and money tied up with this one, dan. what was supposed to be an improvement to the prison system could be putting kids in danger in happy valley. there is a meeting the maricopa re-entry center. parents are worried about homeless ex-cons hanging out in the shopping center or committing crimes in the neighborhood. the center was originally intended for juvenile offenders. >> it's been there for 44 years and nobody had an issue until the department of corrections

government said, works on keeping offenders from falling back into bad habits. and kids are back in school and so are the lice. yeah, sorry, going to get your skin crawling. all parents have received a letter saying that kids will be sent home if they are infected with the super lice, yeah, super lice, and it's hard to beat. over the counter treatments will not it's all about combing all the bugs and eggs out of the hair. >> there is no quick cure. there is no shampoo, nothing that you can -- no pills. you have to manually remove every nit from the air in order to get rid of head lice. >> it's rough, folks. some of the treatment centers cost $100 an hour, broken down into 15-minute periods. and it's a problem invading so many valley neighborhoods,

opens up tomorrow. let's talk about the most accurate forecast in case you're getting ready to head out the door. you'll notice a difference in the skies in the morning. we started off with more cloud cover a few hours ago and you can see in the time lapse that the clouds are gradually clearing in the southeast. so through the morning, you'll notice the clouds push further and further east of the valley and we end up with mostly clear skies. the abc1 dry. a few pop ups around payson are moving to the northeast and fizzling out around winslow. florence, casa grande, a chance of a few scattered showers especially through the morning. so i kept a 10% chance in the forecast in the far east valley this morning. i think after 6:00, the rain chances clear out cleatly of the phoenix metro and we'll

temperature wise, cooler air. right now, we're sitting at 73, and it will be a slow warm up. we won't make it back to the 80s until 11:00, and then we top out at 86 around 3:00 this afternoon, and a picture- perfect evening in case you want to enjoy dinner outside later. dry this afternoon and we'll watch areas to the southeast, and the rest of the state getting drier air in here and clearing out our rain chances but early next signs of moisture returning, still many days away. we'll continue to fine tune the forecast as we get closer but by tuesday, wednesday, and thursday, a chance of showers returning. we'll talk more about this weekend outlook in a few minutes. mallory? iris, we had debris on state route 51 southbound at northern but dps just showed up and it looks like they already cleared it out of the way.

coming up on 5:25, burglars better think twice before stepping into this woman's home. >> no kidding. she is armed and not afraid to defend what's hers. it was all caught on surveillance video.

this morning, part of a $13 billion deal. what that means for customers and employees coming up. a lot of news on abc15 mornings. glad you're waking up with us. and i know a lot of parts of the valley got rain yesterday and it hit hard at the station as well. iris? the good news is as we look at the abc15 desert doppler, it's all dry and i expect it will be a nice drive into work. apache junction, queen slight chance of a stray shower this morning, but that's it. the rest of us looking at the clouds gradually clearing out and temperatures cooling into the low 70s. as you head out to to work, you'll enjoy a nice drive in. temperatures will warm but not that much. it might be a good day to have lunch on the patio. today's high will be only 86 degrees, a gorgeous day on tap. but we have warmer temperatures

we'll talk about that and how strong the winds will be, mallory. iris, we have a crash hard to see behind the scenes here blocking the left lane, and 7 having to go to the right to get by, so minor slowing traffic, light on 143 but everyone will have to move to the right to get by that and it looks like maybe they're stopping traffic to get rid of debris or get this crash the freeway. besides that, we are seeing delays on the 10, typical for this time of the morning but i want to give you a heads up on a crash in chandler, alma school road, southbound looks like it's blocked off at elliot. the smart route, dobson or arizona avenue. dobson, lighter than arizona so it might be a better option. but, again, avoid the area. we'll take another look at the delays on the 10 in a few

truck. one person was ejected and died on the scene. and to mess a we were rolling on the adot cameras there, the car upside down, u.s. 60 near val vista where the driver hit a light pole and two people were ejectorred. traffic is free throwing at both locations as mallory was able to update us on that, dan. 5:33, and chris, happening in a few up airline mechanics heading to the picket lines. allison rodriguez, why are they so upset? >> reporter: good morning, dan. i can tell you that the aircraft mechanic's fraternal organization are planning to picket in sky harbor, and that will get underway in about two hours. the reason? they are not happy with southwest airlines. a local group is trying to

member show up. they said their goal was to educate travelers. theysay they are seeing positions going to outsourcing, unlicensed workers from other countries. they want to get this done quickly. now, other pickets are planned this chicago, and houston as well. so you might want to plan extra time if you plan to travel through southwest or any of the other cities this morning. allison rodriguez, abc15. we have calls in to police to find out more information on two late-night shootings, 95th and bethany, one man was hurt there, and last we heard from officers they were looking into

connected to a separate scene, and here at northern, one man has life-threatening injuries after the same story there. we will bring you updates once we hear back from police. and we are digging into records after three now ex- police officers are accused of bullying. a driver claims he was pulled over and the officers forced him to eat marijuana to the point he got sick. the alleged ringleader, jason mcfadden, transferred after 12 department. we found 15 complaints against him ranging from mishandling a prisoner's property to the use of force complaint. the most minor was neglecting a shift duty. policesay over a decade in a big city, it's not surprising to have a list like that, but it is phoenix police chief said they will look at all of it. >> we'll dive into that and see

didn't catch issue we'll address those. >> mcfadden and richard pena are under criminal investigation. and a fourth officer was disciplined before for telling an inappropriate joke and using the "n" word. a bizarre story, chris. dan, i want to let you know that the curfew has been lifted in charlotte after a third night of protests. this time, looking at the video, i want to be clear it was much more the demonstrators demanding that police release the video of keith scott. and scott's family watched two of the videos and the family and the police chief say they do not definitively show scott pointing a gun at officers before he was shot and killed but it does show scott refusing to drop the weapon. the chief said they will not be released until the investigation is over saying

>> our sex assault victims, our domestic violence victims will have a lot less faith in us. so i would be losing a lot more than people are willing to acknowledge. from charlotte to actuals a the new mugshot from officer betty shelby, out on $50,000 bond. she was booked on first degree manslaughter charges and released this morning. prosecutorssay that she reacted unreasonably when she shot and killed terence crutcher last week. crutcher's families they have mixed feelings saying they are relieved about the arrest -- charges but will not be happy until there is a conviction. the phoenix guardian angels want to keep you informed and talk about the serial street shooter. we haven't talked about this for a while. this is video from last month.

shooter struck was back on july 11th. there is a $75,000 reward to find that guy. call silent witness if you have any information that might lead to arrest. this morning, it's a new name in the travel world but a name you already know, marriott. how will this merger affect the people that work in the hotels, perhaps friends and neighbors? justin pazera spoke marriott executive, and when we say that, justin, we are talking the ceo, awake and taking your call. >> reporter: that's right. and one of the first questions i asked, what will happen to the employees in this sheraton hotel outside the cubs' park in mesa, this is just one of those hotels. we are talking over 5000, almost 6000 hotels that will be under the marriott umbrella. he told me that 90% of the jobs, they are not going to be

at the top of the company, the high level executives, those might be impacted. but this deal will real lump places like the w scottsdale, the big westin resort, the big hotel in downtown phoenix, the big sheraton, they are now under the marriott deal. are you going to see a name change? that's the other question that i asked the marriott president. he said brands, they will stay the name. they have been working on the deal now for about 11 months. and this deal is done, effective today. marriott is now the largest hotel chain in the world. we're live in mesa, justin pazera, abc15. as we look at your most accurate forecast, the last few mornings, outdoor activities may have been a bit of a struggle because of the humidity in place but good

6:17 and it will be a great morning to be outside and we're getting drier air in here. plus, temperatures will gradually warm as cooler air sets in, nice and dry for biking and great for hiking and perfect if you want to get a run in outside. again, a slow warm up. so you have a nice window of time to get outdoors. we have dropped in the 60s in several valley cities like surprise and scottsdale and buckeye. in the 70s across the east valley. i think we'll drop further to near 70 degrees before we start the warm up. but look at the warm up. it will be slow. so if you wanted to go hiking at noon, not bad. still want to hydrate and 82 by then and this afternoon's highs only make it into the mid-80s. so a gorgeous day on tap, and we'll look at the weekend and

mallory? iris, i'm going to give you another look at the crash on state route 143, blocking two of the left lanes, southbound at university drive and dps is in the process of setting up flares. stay way to the right to get by this before you get to the i-10 interchange. not causing extensive delays. i still think you can use it but you will see the brake light there is. i-10 in the west valley, a 16- minute desert drive time, so delays there from the 101 to the 17 and slow and go. the 17, very light, not seeing problem spots on the 17. we'll head out to the east valley, dan. are you thinking about

a new page of controversy for sheriff paul babeu. sources tell us the fbi has subpoenaed records related to how babeu's office used seized criminal money also known as rico funds. critics have said pcso's use of the foundation is like money laundering. also accused babeu of using the funds to fuel his campaign. it may already be illegal campaigning with government resources. or if they're just being used to make the sheriff look good, as he runs for congress.

playbook. pence and trump and clinton, taking time off to prepare for monday's debate. again, just a few days away, and donald trump turning to advisors for help using a rotating cast of politicians and experts to prep. who's helping him? newt gingrich, chris christie and mike flynn advising him on national peter navarro. at the debate, mark cuban will be sitting in the front row, his ticket courtesy of the clinton campaign. he offered to pay $10 million to the charity of trump's choice if he sat down with him for four hour.

hiding in a grill. >> so, for the first hour and a half, i was trying to go, what do i do? i have two rattlesnakes battling or mating on my patio. >> hard to tell. but snake removal experts tell us that they are getting more calls because the snakes are in winter mode meaning they are out and about looking to eat and fight and mate for hibernate. but they are fighting now, iris. >> you are telling me when i go out to be hiking this weekend, i have to be extra careful? >> you see that, run the other way. >> seriously, stay away. and speaking of the changing weather, we have drier air moving in after humid days and rainy and stormy days. the drier air is visible as we look at the surface moisture. the brown is indicating the

off to the east. with the lack of moisture and drier air t means rain chances are clearing out of the valley forecast but this pouring, keeping an eye on areas to the southeast from show low to globe to casa grande, a few chances before we clear out the rain chances in the afternoon. 7:00 this evening on futurecast, mostly clear skies and a gorgeous friday evening. by tomorrow morning, hiking because we'll start off with mostly clear skies and cooler temperatures. the forecast will stay dry through the weekend. it won't be until sunday that we see the rain chances return to the high country. now i am starting to see signs of rain chances returning to the valley by the middle of next week. it's something we'll be watching closely over the next few days. winds today unlike yesterday, not as strong, just light breezes in the valley, gusts to 30 miles per hour in northeast

anywhere in the state today. enjoy today's high, only 86 degrees, guys, and guy tomorrow, 90, so warmer and mid- 90s by sunday and keep the 90s as we go through the weekend into next week. we'll talk more about the cool temperatures you'll feel this morning next. iris, delays on the i-10 in the west valley and i 17 slowing down at camelback and the durango rv there. but the east valley, we have a crash at alma school road, blocked off in the southbound direct at elliot. so dobson or arizona, either one is a good option. the rest of the east valley, quiet and there will be weekend restrictions in the east valley but the only crash on the freeways is this one on state route 143 at university. it's slowing things down for drivers.
